A little something that the ever lovely @tsuumei and I were talking about the other day. I hope you like this result of our endless DaiSuga chats, darling! <3
The song mentioned is Dream Lover by Bobby Darin.
Koushi giggles as Daichi croons at him, playful and sweet, singing along with the radio softly playing in the corner, a song in English that they both love on his lips.
“I want a dream lover, so I don’t have to dream alone.”
Daichi grins and sweeps Koushi across the kitchen, their feet slippery on the tile in just fluffy socks, one arm around Koushi’s waist, the other holding Koushi’s hand in the air. “You don’t have to dream alone, you dork.”
“Nope.” Daichi twirls them around, and Koushi can’t help the laughter that bubbles out of him. “Cause I already have my dream lover.”
“Oh?” Koushi tilts his head, playing dumb. “And who’s this lover? Have I ever met them?”
“Brat.” Daichi leans in and kisses him, stealing his breath away. Koushi doesn’t even realize that they’ve stopped moving until Daichi has pulled away again, smiling sweetly down at him. “You’re everything I’ve ever wanted, you know.”
Koushi smiles up at him, and he knows he looks ridiculously in love, but that’s okay. “And you’re a sap.”
Daichi drops his hands to Koushi’s waist, and before Koushi can squirm away, starts tickling. It leaves them both in tearful laughter by the time he stops, and Koushi leans against Daichi’s chest as he tries to get his breath back. Daichi’s hands are a comforting weight on his hips, warm even through his shirt. “Your sap, though.”
Koushi giggles a little as Daichi peppers his face in tiny kisses. “Yeah.” Daichi grins down at him, cheeks pink. “You’re perfect. My everything.”
He rises on his toes just enough to capture Daichi’s mouth, wrapping his arms around his neck. They just stand there for a moment after pulling away, gazing at each other, and Koushi wonders how he got so lucky. The song on the radio fades out to something else, another soft, sweet song, and Daichi moves them again, until they’re swaying and dancing slowly across the floor, perfectly in sync.

“I’m right here, you know? I can tell when you’ve stopped paying attention to me.” - OiSuga
Koushi stops in the middle of his sentence, startled into silence by the realization that Oikawa clearly isn’t listening, and hasn’t been for a while. “Have I done something wrong lately?”
Oikawa hums distractedly, barely looking up from the book in his lap. “What’s that?”
“Am I bothering you?” Koushi frowns, twisting his fingers together. It’s awkward, talking like this, barely perched on the very edge of the couch Oikawa sits on, as far apart as they could possibly be within the length of the piece of furniture. “Did I upset you?”
“You’re fine. I’m just busy.” Still Oikawa doesn’t look up, just flips to the next page even as he speaks.
Koushi bites his bottom lip, the feeling of dread in his chest rising even higher. “I’m right here, you know? I can tell when you’ve stopped paying attention to me.”
Because it’s not just that Oikawa’s busy. He’s always busy with some thing or another, and he’s never let that stop him from engaging in their relationship properly before. This indifference is fairly new, and Koushi’s not sure what brought it on, if there was something he did wrong. He’d been waiting, to see if maybe it was his imagination, or if Oikawa was just particularly busy, but aside from the lack of attention nothing is any different than usual.
No, as far as Koushi was aware everything was just as it should be, aside from the obvious change in their relationship. There were a few days when Koushi hadn’t heard from Oikawa at all, and while unusual, he’d figured it was just a spike of busyness keeping Oikawa away and gave him time without interruptions. He’d only gotten more anxious, though, and finally messaged, wondering if Oikawa was okay, only to hear that he was just adjusting his schedule, though he hadn’t given Koushi any indication he was going to do it.
He didn’t seem concerned about the change at all, even if it felt to Koushi like the entire world had shifted on its side. That had hurt, but he’d accepted it as easily as possible, just happy that Oikawa still knew he was around. It was worse that there were things that Koushi would have deemed important that Oikawa hadn’t breathed a word of, like Koushi wasn’t worth the breath or time to say them. Half the time Oikawa didn’t even bother to tell him goodbye or goodnight, and Koushi hadn’t heard him express his love in what felt like a lifetime, compared to the more than daily way they’d had before.
And this, being ignored even in the same room, like it didn’t matter whether he was there or not, wasn’t something that Koushi could handle. The occasional message or visit couldn’t make up for all this, not at all.
Oikawa hums again, and nods. “I’m listening, love.”
It’s obvious he’s not, though, and that’s all Koushi can take for the night. He sits for another moment, waiting, for what he’s not sure, but nothing happens, so he gets up. He doesn’t bother saying anything else, not with knowing Oikawa’s not listening anyway, just heads to the hallway where he puts on his coat. The door clicks closed behind him quietly, though it seems even louder than the pounding of his heart in his ears. He walks away slowly, half hoping for Oikawa to call after him, to ask where he’s going.
It doesn’t happen. The tears that slide down his cheeks are cold, and his heart has stopped pounding, feels like it’s stopped beating at all, sitting dead and withered in his chest. The walk home is slow and torturous, and he doesn’t bother with any lights when he finally makes it in the door, just hangs up his coat silently. The bedroom is dark and chilly, and he slumps on the bed, burying his face in the pillow, letting the never-ending tears soak into the fabric.
He doesn’t know what to do now, what to think. His phone sits silent on the bed where it had slipped from his fingers, and he doesn’t expect anything from it anymore anyway. The people he knows are too busy for him, he knows. It hurts, but there’s nothing he can do about it, so he doesn’t.

“I’m trying to forget you the best I can, but damn it, we belong together.” - IwaDai
This turned out way longer than I expected, and my favorite little brat wiggled his way into being in it quite a bit. Oops.
Daichi freezes after opening the door to his apartment, stuck on the face that he’d hoped to see for so long. He hadn’t expected to, though, had pretty much given up on the possibility after a miserable few weeks with nothing at all. Now, though, Iwaizumi is standing in the hall outside his apartment, breathing clouds into the cold air. They just stare at each other, and Daichi’s not even sure how long it is, just knows that his fingers are cold and his heart has stopped.
There’s a noise behind him in the apartment and all of a sudden everything rushes back to life. His heart pounds in his chest, seemingly making up for the pause, and he jerks to turn and see what has caught Iwaizumi’s attention. It’s Suga, of course, padding down the hallway in nothing but the tiny little blue shorts he’s fond of wearing that make it incredibly obvious he’s not wearing anything else. They both watch until Suga disappears into the bathroom with a barely concealed yawn, and then they look at each other once more.
There’s a look in Iwaizumi’s eyes that Daichi can’t read, not even after all the time they’d had together, and he tries not to feel hurt about it. After all, their relationship ended for a reason, and he’s learned there’s no good to be found in dwelling on things you can’t change. Instead he waits, wondering if he should invite Iwaizumi in from the cold, before the rest of the apartment gets chilly. He doesn’t get a chance to figure it out though, because then there’s a pair of arms wrapping around his middle, and Suga’s chin on his shoulder.
“Hey there. You boys gonna stand here with the door open all day?” He shivers against Daichi’s back, squeezing his arms a little tighter. “It’s cold, you know.”
“Sorry.” Iwaizumi steps inside, his eyes still glued to Suga’s arms.
Daichi swings the door shut, and Suga lets him go, reaching up to press a kiss to his cheek before turning to Iwaizumi again. “Nice to see you again, Hajime.” And Daichi watches as he rests his hands on Iwaizumi’s arm and stretches up to press against his cheek too. Then he’s gone with a giggle, prancing off elsewhere while Iwaizumi blinks at Daichi instead.
“Ah.” Daichi scratches at the back of his neck, though he drops his hand quickly when he notices what he’s doing. “Did you need something?”
Iwaizumi straightens up and squares his shoulders, and Daichi tries not to get distracted remembering the feel of them under his hands. “I’m trying to forget you the best I can, but damn it, we belong together.”
“Oh.” He knows that’s not the kind of answer that Iwaizumi is expecting, but he’s not quite sure what to say.
“Sorry.” Iwaizumi gestures down the hall, to where Suga disappeared. “I didn’t know you’d have company.”
Daichi shakes his head, still unsure what to say. “It’s fine. It’s just Suga.”
“Just Suga.”
“Who is ‘just Suga’?” Iwaizumi jerks as Suga appears next to them again, though neither of them had heard him approach. He’s still dressed the same, only this time he’s pouting, his bottom lip stuck out, and his hands are wrapped around two steaming mugs. “I was going to share the coffee I made, but now I’m not so sure.”
Daichi can’t help grinning at him, and he pulls one of the cups out of his hands easily, handing it carefully to Iwaizumi before taking the other one too. “Thanks, Koushi.” Suga lets out a little hmph noise and heads back to the kitchen, and Daichi waves one hand at the living room. “Do you want to sit down?”
Iwaizumi nods and Daichi lets him go first, watches as he takes a seat on one end of the fluffy sofa. Daichi takes the other end, and Iwaizumi tries to hide his smile behind his mug. It’s easy to see anyway, but Daichi doesn’t say anything, just sips carefully at the coffee Suga had made, just the way that he likes it. Suga appears again, this time with his own mug and wearing one of Daichi’s shirts, the one with the ripped collar that just barely hangs off of Suga’s shoulders.
He settles on the floor next to Daichi, leaning against his leg, and he gazes up at Daichi even as he drinks some of his coffee. Iwaizumi gets the stare next, and then Suga lowers his mug and smiles. “So. Have you two worked yourselves out yet? Ready for the next step?”
Iwaizumi just looks between them, blinking as his cheeks flush. Daichi’s not at all surprised by Suga jumping into the conversation like he has, and he only hopes that it all manages to work out. Iwaizumi hasn’t left yet, which is a good sign, especially after Suga’s flirty greeting, but he may not like what Suga’s suggesting anyway. “I’m…not sure?”
Daichi can’t help his soft laugh, and Iwaizumi’s cheeks color a little more as he looks down into his coffee. “Well, it sounds like you’ve changed your mind? About us?”
He watches Iwaizumi sip at his drink again, and then nod, slow and thoughtful. “Yeah. I made a mistake. I’m sorry.”
Suga pats Iwaizumi’s knee gently. “We’ve been waiting for you, you know.”
He meets Iwaizumi’s eyes and smiles at the look of wonder and relief he sees there. He hands his mug to Suga, who puts both of the ones in his hands on the coffee table, and then does the same to Iwaizumi’s before crawling up onto the couch between them, settling easily in Daichi’s lap. After he’s comfy he reaches out and hooks a finger in Iwaizumi’s shirt collar, pulling him forward until he splays against them both.
Daichi rests a hand on his shoulder, brushing his thumb against Iwaizumi’s neck in a familiar motion, one he hasn’t been able to do for so long. “Is this okay, Hajime?”
Iwaizumi hums as he looks up, his head on Suga’s shoulder. His cheeks are still pink, but he looks pleased, smiling up at him. “Yeah. Better than okay.”
Suga giggles and wiggles down between them a little more, and the three of them stay like that, happy and content.

For my wonderful friend @cheatos, who saw some cuddly prompts and mentioned wanting something with them. So I wrote a tiny IwaOi. I hope you like it darling!
Hajime shifts Oikawa against his chest, adjusting them both until they’re both covered by the blankets and Oikawa can tuck his head underneath Hajime’s chin. It’s warm, and mostly comfortable on their worn couch, some movie playing that Hajime’s seen a hundred times thanks to Oikawa. He doesn’t need to watch it at all, and instead presses a kiss against the top of Oikawa’s head, burying his nose into the soft curls.
“Is that a new shampoo I smell?”
Oikawa coos at him, clearly pleased. “Oh, Hajime, you noticed. How observant of you.” He twists in Hajime’s arms, until they’re almost face to face, and he looks into Hajime’s eyes coyly. “Do you like it?”
“It suits you.” He brushes a thumb across Oikawa’s face and watches the blush that settles high on his cheeks. “Delicate and pretty. With just a little something spicy underneath it all.”
Oikawa whines and buries his face against Hajime’s chest, the tips of his ears bright red, easily giving away the fact that he’s blushing. He whines, and Hajime can’t help the laughter that bubbles up in his chest and spills into the air. Oikawa squeaks as he’s nudged closer to the edge of the couch, and clings on to Hajime, his hands fisted in the back of Hajime’s shirt. It only makes him laugh harder, and then they’re falling the few feet to the carpet.
He’s not sure exactly how, but he manages to turn enough that he’s the one that lands flat on his back, Oikawa cushioned safely against his chest, though his hands dig into Hajime’s back. His eyes are bright and his cheeks are red as he gazes down at him, and Hajime can’t resist closing the gap between them to press their lips together. They stay down there, content.

“You keep trying to set me up with other people so I think you aren’t interested in me but actually you’re just an idiot who thinks you’ll get over me faster if I’m dating someone else and HOLD UP I wanna date you.” For Kuroyaku? :) Thank you!
Holy fucknuts Batman, let’s not talk about how damn old this prompt is, huh? I hope this is good my darling! Sorry it took so long :)
Morisuke sighs and tries not to zone out of Kuroo’s rambling too much. It’s the same topic he somehow always winds up on, and Morisuke is just about done with it entirely. It’s bad enough that Kuroo doesn’t share his feelings, but to hear him prattle on about someone new he knows who would be perfect for him, well. It’s just a little much to deal with, especially over and over.
None of Kuroo’s supposed ‘perfect’ friends have lasted more than a date, and it’s not their fault that Morisuke can’t get over his dumb feelings for Kuroo, but it’s also impossible to get Kuroo to listen to a no in the first place. This is another one of those times, and Morisuke agrees without much fuss, more eager to get it over with than anything else.
The date goes as well as could be expected, and he apologizes at the end of the night for not being able to offer another. The girl that Kuroo’s set him up with, Kamiko, lets out a laugh like bells, and winks as she tells him that she hopes he finds someone soon, so that Kuroo can get over himself finally and stop begging all his friends to make Morisuke unavailable to do it.
Morisuke thanks her and promises he’ll get Kuroo to stop bothering them all. It doesn’t take very long for him to make it to Kuroo’s apartment, and he doesn’t hesitate to knock on the door even this late.
Kuroo opens the door, his face confused as he looks down at him. “Yakkun? What’re you doing here?”
“I want to date you.”
“What?” Kuroo shakes his head, like he’s not sure he’s hearing properly and needs to shake the words into order.
“I want you to stop setting me up with your friends so you can get over me before we’ve even tried dating.”
“Kamiko told you.” Kuroo sighs and mutters to himself. “Mouthy brat, that one.”
Morisuke reaches up and tugs on Kuroo’s collar, dragging him down enough that he doesn’t have to reach so far. “Yeah. Stop being dumb and say you’ll be my boyfriend already.”
“Okay.” The smile that stretches Kuroo’s face is gorgeous, soft and pleased, but it doesn’t last long, not when Morisuke reaches up and brushes their mouthes together.
“Good.” Morisuke lets him go and nods, turning away. “Pick me up tomorrow night for our date.”
His last look of Kuroo is him red faced and dazed, standing in the open door of his apartment, and Morisuke hurries away, hiding his grin. That last date turned out even better than he expected, even if it wasn’t in a way anyone expected. He’s glad, and he looks forward to the next night’s even more.

Ahhhhhh, thank you, sweet nonny! It’s an honor to hear I’ve caught another little fish in the wonderful rarepair pond. >:D I hope you like this tiny thing! (It is awfully hard to write only 6 sentences hehe.)
Kuroo stands with a frown, looking down at the twin mischievous grins of Suga and Daichi. “Do I have to?”
Suga clicks his tongue in faux disappointment, and Daichi nods his head like he’s agreeing with whatever Suga hasn’t said yet. “Of course, Tetsu. That’s the point of the game, you know.”
Their grins only widen as Kuroo drops his last article of clothing into the nearby pile, and the only thing that Kuroo can think of is that he never should’ve trusted them suggesting strip poker.
send me a character or pairing + a word/phrase and I’ll write a six sentence fic about it

A cute lil fluffy thing for my sweet darling @ohmykokuroo! I love you Myn, and I hope you like this. <3
Koutarou takes a deep breath of the crisp morning air, filling his lungs with the smell of dawn and dew, a new day ready to be conquered. He pauses for a moment to let the tiny pug at the end of his leash sniff at a tree, and then they’re both off again, jogging happily toward the small park a few blocks away. They’re almost there when Snarf tugs at the leash, and Bokuto looks in the same he’s pulling to see someone else walking their dog.
They’re both intimidatingly big, and their faces are both set with a expression that probably keeps most people from getting too close. Luckily Koutarou is not most people, and Snarf isn’t either, so they make their way over to say hello. The dog, a big Doberman, stops when Snarf gets about a foot away, and Koutarou pauses just behind him, giving a wave with the hand that’s not holding the leash.
“Hi! I’m Bokuto.”
The other man nods, though his expression remains stoic. “Ushijima.”
Snarf snuffles, taking another couple of steps forward when the other dog doesn’t move. “Can I pet your dog?”
Ushijima doesn’t speak, just nods his head, and Koutarou thinks if he looks very hard he can see the tiniest bit of surprise ghosted across his face. He grins and bends down, sticking his hand out for the dog to sniff. Snarf creeps under it, and when the dog licks at him Koutarou pulls it away and scratches between his ears before standing again, watching as the dogs sniff at each other. Ushijima blinks at Koutarou’s smile, and the corner of his lips lifts just a little. “What is your dog’s name?”
“Oh!” Koutarou leans down and scoops up his dog so Ushijima can see him properly. “Snarf! What’s yours?”
“Washi.” The Doberman sits at his name and looks up and Ushijima smiles a little more as he leans down to pat him on the head. Koutarou lets Snarf down again, and watches as the dogs seem to get along perfectly.
“That’s awesome! Hey, do you wanna let the dogs play together in the park?”
Ushijima looks down at where the dogs are already starting to get friendly and nods. “That would be nice.”
They jog the rest of the way, and then let the dogs off their leashes and watch them run around in glee, Washi easily trotting over tiny Snarf. Ushijima hold up the conversation reasonable well, if a little stilted, and Koutarou finds himself thinking that he’d really like to get to know him better. After a while Snarf comes and sits by his feet, clearly tired, and Koutarou grins sheepishly as he scoops him up. “Would you like to meet up again? So the dogs can play!”
Ushijima smiles this time, a real one, and Koutarou can’t help thinking that it’s something he wants to see again. “I would like that very much.”
Koutarou nods, and pulls out his phone to exchange information. The walk home, alone, is quiet but nice, and he finds himself unable to think about anything other than dark eyes and a low voice, already looking forward to the next time he gets to see them.

Wooooah those human/demon prompts sound so cool and your writing is so very good!! If you want “Sometimes I forget they’re a demon and then they do something so inhuman, I remember.” with bokuken? Thank you for everything you do!
Thank you for the prompt darling, I hope you like this little bit of nonsense. :D And thank you for the compliment, from the very bottom of my heart! Thank YOU for reading.
Koutarou groans as he slips into an empty chair, resting his forehead on the table next to the iced coffee waiting for him. He doesn’t need to see Kuroo’s face to know what kind of smile he has on, already knows it’s the one he wears when he knows he’s going to hear something that amuses him. His voice is already light, just about ready to laugh. “Trouble in paradise?”
“Sometimes I forget he’s a demon and then he does something so inhuman, I remember.”
Then there’s the laugh Koutarou was waiting for, and a gentle hand patting him on the shoulder. He pushes himself up, intent on drinking his coffee before all the ice melts, and Kuroo takes a moment to sip at his own. “What this time?”
Instead of answering he pulls out his phone, opening up the most recently taken picture before pushing it Kuroo’s way. Kuroo barely manages to keep his goofy laugh under control as he looks at where Kenma is shown sitting cross legged on the ceiling, apparently completely unconcerned with anything besides his game system. The way his hair falls conceals the horns that Koutarou knows are there, and it might actually look fairly normal if Kenma weren’t in such a ridiculous place.
As it is Koutarou knows how long he’s been there, and he gets a headache thinking about how long he’s just been upside down. “He refuses to come down because I ‘kept interrupting his game’ by suggesting he might want to stop playing for a bit for ‘stupid things’.” And here Koutarou wrinkles his nose as he curves his fingers into air quotes, which only makes Kuroo raise an eyebrow in question. “Like food and showering.”
“Maybe demons are just self cleaning. Like cats.”
Koutarou drops his head back to the table and mutters into the surface. “He’s not a demon, he’s a gremlin. A chip crumb covered, soda drinking, game playing gremlin.”
Another pat, this time a consoling one, and fingers running through his hair once before a plate is pushed closer to his cheek. “I hate to say I told you so, but well.”
He groans. He’d known that having a demon as any sort of companion, especially as a boyfriend, would be hard, but he hadn’t anticipated this sort of problem. He grumbles a little more into the tabletop and then sits up to eat the cookie he’s been offered, resolving to figure it out later. Things always work themselves out somehow anyway.

A slightly longer than little thing that the wonderful @ironically-human gave me a prompt for! Have some KyouHaba jock/nerd au shenanigans. I hope you like it!
If there’s anyone at all who confuses Shigeru like nothing else ever has, it’s Kyoutani. There’s something about him that just doesn’t click right in his head, and it fills him with a need to figure it out that doesn’t leave him alone. Between classwork and volleyball there’s actually not much time to dedicate to finding out what makes Kyoutani tick, but Shigeru is determined to do it anyway.
Kyoutani is strange. He looks mean, always with a face like someone has angered him, and the darkness around his eyes tells a story that Shigeru isn’t sure anyone wants to hear, but he’s almost top of their class and has a softness that clashes with the rest of his personality. Shigeru quite literally stumbles upon the latter by chance, one day after a late practice. He’s rushing home to help his mother prepare dinner when he trips over something and only avoids sprawling on the concrete by the grace of his reflexes.
He turns, scowling, ready to curse at an unfortunate pile of garbage when he realizes that what he’d tripped over was a person. Luckily the person is alive, and judging by the expression on his face, angry at being basically kicked. In Shigeru’s defense, though, he hadn’t known anyone was going to be there, and he can’t exactly see around corners. Kyoutani just frowns and turns away, and Shigeru returns the reaction before looking to see what’s more important than their usual not quite playful rivalry.
Cradled carefully in Kyoutani’s arms is a little furry body, dingy white fur rising and falling unsteadily. The little kitten is missing half an ear at least, and though Shigeru can’t see any blood, he’s still immediately worried about what he’s gotten inadvertently involved in.
“You found it like that?”
Kyoutani looks up again at the sound of his voice, scowling like he thinks he’s just been asked the stupidest question in the world. “Yes.”
Shigeru wrinkles his nose and resists the childish urge to stick his tongue out at him. “Do you know a vet?”
Looking back down at the kitten, Kyoutani shakes his head, and even Shigeru can tell that it’s a little sad, though he doesn’t know Kyoutani quite that well. “No.” His voice is softer than Shigeru’s ever heard it, even the time that he’d happened upon Kyoutani tutoring one of the girls who was struggling in their class. It takes a split second to make his decision, and he tries not to think too hard about how warm Kyoutani is when Shigeru wraps a hand around his arm, pulling him in the direction of his house.
Kyoutani resists a little, glaring at Shigeru fiercely as he adjusts his hold on the little body and looks down at his feet. His bag is there, along with a little plastic bag that Shigeru can see has cat food in it. He sighs and scoops it all up, nodding his head the way they need to go. “Come on. This way. Quickly.”
There’s no conversation between them as they hurry along, and Shigeru spares a thought to being grateful that volleyball requires being fit, because Kyoutani’s bag is heavy. He knows it’s packed full of books, more than the ones required for class, and he makes a note to tease Kyoutani about it later, after this situation is taken care of. It doesn’t take long to get home, and he pops in the door to his house to drop their bags on the floor before ducking back out again to cross to the house across the street.
Kyoutani follows, and Shigeru can feel his confusion even if he can’t see it. When the door opens, only a moment later but feeling like a lifetime, Shigeru grins a greeting as he ducks into the house, gesturing to Kyoutani behind him. “Hi Mako. We have an emergency, can you take a look?”
Mako has been his neighbor as long as Shigeru can remember, and she’s always run a small veterinary clinic out of her home for those who can’t quite afford to head into town. She takes the kitten gently from Kyoutani and leads them both down a short hall, to an exam room where they watch as she carefully proceeds to figure out what’s wrong. Shigeru still doesn’t really know much about her work, but he does know that she’s very skilled, and he has faith that whatever it is, she’ll help.
After a little while she turns to them again, her face kind but still worried, and Shigeru glances at Kyoutani out of the corner of his eye. Kyoutani has an angry look on his face, but Shigeru can tell it’s only a cover for what he’s actually feeling. He drops his hand to his side, casually brushing their hands together, and Kyoutani flicks his gaze over to him before relaxing the tiniest bit. He just barely presses the backs of their hands together, though he says nothing, and Shigeru bites the inside of his cheek /// and tries not to blush at the contact.
Mako tells them that she has to keep the kitten for observation to see exactly what the problem is, and that if it seems like there’s a turn for the worse she’ll call Shigeru over right away. She brushes away any talk of payment and ushers them out the door as someone else comes in, and Shigeru slowly leads the way back to his house. Kyoutani follows awkwardly, still scowling a little as Shigeru lets them back inside and greets his mother in the kitchen. “Shigeru, was that you in a rush?”
He hums and pulls a bottle of water from the fridge, handing it to Kyoutani as he introduces them. “Yeah. This is Kyoutani, a classmate. He found a kitten and we brought it over for Mako to look over.”
“Nice to meet you, dear.” Kyoutani bows, a smile on his face, and Shigeru wonders if his smile has always been so nice. “Ah. I’m sure she’ll be calling you either way later on, hm?”
“Yup. Do you need help with dinner?”
“Not right now. Kyoutani dear, if you’re worried about your furry friend you can stay overnight instead of waiting until the morning for news.”
Shigeru can feel the blush returning, and is only mildly pleased that the same thing seems to be happening to Kyoutani. “Thank you. I appreciate the offer very much.”
“Of course. Shigeru, you have a while, why don’t you take care of your homework before dinner?”
Shigeru nods, though he knows it’s not a question, and leads Kyoutani up to his room. He’s still a little embarrassed that his mother effectively offered up his room for the night without asking, but Kyoutani seems to have relaxed a little at the thought of knowing the situation even a little faster, so Shigeru doesn’t rescind the offer himself. “Homework?”
Kyoutani’s voice is gruff but soft when he answers. “M’done already.” He settles on the floor, and gestures to the book Shigeru pulls out. “You need help?”
“Uh. Sure. If you don’t mind.” He tries not to think too hard when Kyoutani presses against his side at the tiny table, asking if there’s anything in particular that’s confusing. He knows the night is going to be long if he keeps having these feelings, but he can’t say that he’s not looking forward to it. Kyoutani’s smile when he gets a hard question right lights up his entire room, and he wonders if he’s going to be able to even sleep tonight, knowing Kyoutani is in the same room, asleep and close enough to touch.
Dinner is quiet, Shigeru’s siblings all out for some reason or another, leaving it to be just them and Shigeru’s mother. The conversation is pleasant, but Shigeru is relieved when it’s over and they can head back to his room, where his mother can’t keep shooting him tiny knowing looks over the table. They’ve only been settled down to sleep for a short while when his phone rings, Mako telling them that the kitten has improved, and that if they want they can head over for a few minutes to see her.
The kitten practically pounces on Kyoutani as soon as she sees him, and he laughs, a little loud but joyful, and Shigeru finds himself wanting to listen to it over and over again. Mako doesn’t let them stay long, shooing them away after a bit, promising to keep an eye on the kitten for a couple of days, until they can figure out what to do with her. She assures them they can visit and gestures them out the door, and in the light of the moon Shigeru can see the bright grin stretched across Kyoutani’s normally standoffish face.
They settle back into bed easily, and Shigeru makes a note to ask his mother if they can keep the kitten there, since Kyoutani quietly reveals that he’s not allowed pets at his own home. He drifts off to the sound of Kyoutani’s even breathing, and he wonders if maybe they’ll wind up doing this a lot more. He finds that he really likes the idea, though he knows that he’s not quite ready to admit it yet. He’ll get there, soon. He hopes Kyoutani will too.

A lil something for the AsaDai birthdays! Thanks to @humandisasterbuckybarnes for the suggestion. :D
This is also the very last daily ficlet of 2017, and I thank each and every one of you for joining me on this awfully grand adventure. I love you! <3
“Happy birthday Daichi!” Daichi sighs as Suga snaps the hat onto his head and smacks an obnoxious kiss against his cheek before flitting away across the room, though he manages to shorten the distance by disappearing halfway and reappearing feet away. He watches him throw his arms around Asahi and Oikawa, who groan under his weight. It’s amusing to watch them try to go about preparing food with him hanging onto them, only half floating in the air. Daichi knows he does it entirely on purpose, throwing his weight around when he doesn’t need to, when he was the first one to figure out this whole being a ghost thing.
It’s been longer than Daichi can remember since they all became like this, and now it’s just another life, normal except for the occasional interference by some overly excited teenagers barging into their building and trying to scare each other. Suga and Oikawa tend to those, usually, giving them far more than they bargained for before the kids flee, their yelling voices echoing in the old house. Otherwise it’s the same as it’s always been, the group of them together, apparently forever, now.
He didn’t think they’d be bothering with things like parties now that they’re all just apparitions, but it is nice to know that they all still care about each other even after all the years. The party is nice, loud and rowdy, not much different from before, and Daichi enjoys it a lot. He finds Asahi on the couch after a while, and they wait together for the clock to tick over to midnight. Suga pops in and out of sight rapidly, kissing them and punching them all depending on his whims, and everybody else yells as they dog pile onto the couch.
Luckily it doesn’t actually matter if they get squished, and Daichi laughs as they all shout greetings for the new year and Asahi’s birthday in the same breath. He waits until they break up a little, drifting off in pairs to find more food and the cake they’ve been saving, crowding into the kitchen to make hot drinks. Asahi sighs a laugh next to him, and Daichi smiles softly as he slips the hat from his head to Asahi’s instead.
The kiss he presses to Asahi’s cheek is infinitely more gentle than Suga’s, and if it were possible he knows Asahi would be blushing. “Happy birthday, Asahi.”
“Happy new year, Daichi.” Asahi links their hands together and stands, pulling Daichi to his feet as someone yells from the kitchen. He wraps his arm around Daichi’s waist and holds him close, leaning down to rub their noses together. “I’m looking forward to spending it with you, again.”
“Me too.”
Something comes flying from the kitchen with a groan, but it’s easy enough to let it fall through them instead of moving, so Daichi just ignores it and focuses on kissing Asahi instead. The perfect end to his birthday, and fantastic beginning to the new year.
