i just came across your blog from your amazing art taste. how did you come to get into such classical striking styles? from your love of donna tartt i assume it carried through to other art forms. what are some of your favourite artists or themes (could be visual, musical, literary etc)?
first of all, thank you from the bottom of my heart because this ask really made my day, you’re a sweetheart.
actually, i think if i have to track down a literary origin point for my art taste (even if it’s not entirely true it all originated in that specific way, it’s truer to state i was born with it, i would roam around the louvre or versailles at six and already feel so in awe and in my element, or i would arrive in rome at nine and feel home), but the real turning point of my artistic taste was the art for art’s sake movement, walter pater and oscar wilde. only ten years later i discovered donna tartt, and i had already graduated from my classics high school and in general studied the classics for ten years - yes, donna tartt added a great deal of beauty in my life, but i was already completely part of that world, so to speak.
it’s so difficult to list all the artists, and styles, and in general all the beauty that daily inspires my life, the right answer would be, “everything that strikes me within and that i find beautiful”, and that can be literally anything, but i can try, for art’s sake :)

"Valentine Hugo grew up in an enlightened and open-minded family with a professional painter for a father. After earning a certificate to teach drawing, she was admitted to the École des beaux-arts in Paris in 1907, and spent time in Jacques Fernand Humbert’s workshop. Her first participation in the Salon des artistes français took place in 1909. Her passion for music and dance led her to complete a number of dancer studies and exhibited her pastel sketches and wax paintings on wood at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in 1913. For the fashion illustrations she published in Lucien Vogel’s La Gazette du bon ton, she favoured wood engraving techniques. In 1916, she exhibited a few illuminated manuscripts at the Barbazanges gallery in Paris. She also designed costumes for Jacques Copeau and the Théâtre du Vieux-Colombier workshop in 1917. In 1919, she married Jean Hugo, Victor Hugo’s great-great-grandchild. From then on, she alternated between creating disguises and “puppet-masks” for the Noailles and Beaumont costume balls and designing costumes and sets with her husband for theatre productions (Romeo and Juliet, 1924)." - Excerpt from awarewomenartists.com ___ Visit #valentinehugo to see more works by this amazing artist! I was tagged by both @iariotact and @as-high-as-the-highest-heavens to do this. Thank you! I don’t have got 20 things interesting enough to mention, I’ll come up with something, hope I won’t disappoint you 😂
Rules: list 20 facts about yourself and then tag 10 other blogs you’d like to get to know better (I think I’m gonna break the latter rule though!)
1: I could live off cheese forever, I just love it, almost any kind of it 2: I’ve never driven on a highway 3: I love buying make up and beauty products and I end up not even using all of them. I’m actually good at doing make up but I’m lazy and have so little time in the morning that I put the littlest effort in the task and most of it goes into putting foundation and powders to hide my greenish complexion 4: I had my first boyfriend at 19 y.o. 5: I love crosswords puzzles and when I don’t have any, sometimes I do math expressions and equations to relax instead 6: In my school career I studied English, German, French and Spanish, I went to university to become an interpreter/translator but I dropped out and regret it 7: My shoe size is 35.5 in Italy, that would be 3 in the UK and 5/5.5 in the USA 8: I have no siblings 9: I’m pretty vulnerable to colds and flus 10: When I was in high school I had a friend who convinced me a guy she knew liked me, so she had me going out with her group of friends to meet him. Unfortunately whenever I joined them he was never there and she had a different excuse every time. After a while I learned from a common friend none of that was true, since one day this girl made fun of me in front of other people from my class saying the guy barely remembered me after seeing me once and wasn’t interested at all, but I believed otherwise. The curious thing is I didn’t even like the guy before she told me he was into me, so to this day I still don’t know why she made up the whole story, except for maybe being purely evil. I think this is easily the worst thing that’s ever been done to me 11: Since I started working on an underwear shop, I tend to look at the breast of every woman I see and guess their size, kind of mentally measuring, but not on purpose, really without thinking/noticing 12: I’m loud when I sneeze and I feel I can’t fully trust people who sneeze silently or abort their sneezes weirdly and sort of swallow them 13: There’s an old Italian giallo/horror movie from the 70s I watched by mistake when I was a child and scared me so much I still can’t watch it. I can’t even mention it without remembering the damn music theme and a few scenes, like a fucking person in a mask coming out of a painting and two little girls playing with dolls and one of them torturing and “killing” the other girl’s doll … and I only watched it once like 30 years ago! I don’t think it’s that scary itself anyway, it’s just the past traumatic experience. I literally can’t say loud or write the title of the movie without feeling nauseous, so I won’t 14: I own a guitar but I can’t play it 15: Just like @as-high-as-the-highest-heavens I’ve been given a baseball bat as a present although I don’t play the game and still have it, I keep it in a drawer 16: I’m pretty hairy by nature, I shave or wax every part of my body, except for my arms and forearms, that’s the only area where I’ve got very few or no hair 17: I’ve often been told I have a nice voice (speaking, not singing, I can’t sing) 18: Turner and Dalì are my favourite painters 19: I never wear skirts 20: I have a high pain tolerance
Thank you and sorry for the weird stuff!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.
