The River Spirit | The Stink Spirit

Despite being unnamed, the river spirit remains a fundamental character to Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited away. The message being that the new generation should aim to be compassionate towards the environment and be more conscious towards the mass pollution that we are enabling day by day.

This year has so much in store! 2023 is going to be a year of achieving my goal to share my art in more ways online and locally here in #columbus GA! I am a mom of two little ones, 4 and 2, and during my short few years as a stay at home mom I realized I had to get back into my art and make it more than a hobby. I needed this for me and my sanity (moms I see you!) but also to teach my kids to chase their dreams! I am beyond excited to get my shop at @vintagevillega up and running for the beautiful people of Columbus to take home with them. Most of what I offer in store will also be offered on my website for limited times! But local friends, there will be amazing framed originals that will be exclusive to you! If enough of my incoming orders stay on schedule I will be opening February 16th! An AWESOME Beyoncé travel bag, rad clothing, throw pillows and candles to bring your space all of the good vibes are just a few things that you won’t be able to pass up! The concept of primitive/ naive/ vernacular/ folk art almost removes the idea of the artist being aware of what they’ve created is actual art, as if it’s done by some chance or, in the case of folk art, almost doesn’t deserve to be attributed to a particular creator.

How is being a self-taught artist somehow less than being a traditionally trained? Isn’t it otherwise, a remarkable mark of genius that deserves to be celebrated with even more vigour?

And should we even continue to label art in general? Why does it matter if a piece makes you feel something as a viewer?
