Decades ago, I read an essay or similar — maybe by Douglas Hofstadter? I can't find my copy of Gödel, Escher, Bach to check — that included a linguistic discussion of the 'Nadsat' slang invented for the novel A Clockwork Orange. It spoke at some length about this futuristic argot, and how it showed both the usual patterns of monoglot slang formation and the adoption of words, phrases, and structures from other languages, specifically Russian.
The only bit I remember well is the repeated term, "horrorshow", which was used for anything exemplary or desirable — basically how we've generally used "cool" for decades, and how you might think it's an example of the first. Horror is popular among the crowd using this slang, exemplifying the countercultural violence and subversive energy they like, and therefore just saying "horrorshow" associates that complex of emotion with whatever they're describing. But no, said the essay, it's an example of the second, being a corruption of the Russian "хорошо" (horosho), "good".
Which is the long version of saying that when, years later, I kept seeing anime Russian girls saying "хорошо" all the time, it brought up very different associations.
