@liildenniison (continued from here):
“Don’t need to!” Dani replied as she smirked at her friend. “You still followed along even after I was vague on where I wanted us to go, so now you’re just going to have to wait until we get there to find out!” With that, the redhead chuckled, turning away from Ferdie as she continued to lead on to wherever they were going. There wasn’t even a reason as to why she wasn’t telling him, merely choosing not to do so because of how easily swayed her friend was when she told him that there was something she wanted to show him but he had to follow her first in order to know. If he had asked her earlier about where they were going, than Dani might have told him, but now she wanted to keep the suspense up and so Ferdie will have to deal with waiting until they get there. “Besides, it wouldn’t matter if I tell you now when we’re almost there anyways. Just hang on for a few more minutes, can you?”
She definitely had him in check with that one. To think, if only Ferdie wasn’t so inclined to follow along first and ask questions later, he might have been granted those answers—but when his friend knew he’d hang on for the ride no matter where they ended up, what incentive was there to tell him? He thought he’d broken this habit after about the millionth time of getting in trouble for agreeing to his twin’s schemes in childhood, but maybe that just applied when Morty was involved. Dani was a new friend who hadn't yet given him a reason to distrust, so he didn't expect anything bad, and anyway what if he wasn't quick enough to agree and missed out on something good? Naturally he had to take her up on the offer. “Surprises are dangerous,” he posited just to play the devil’s advocate, despite the fact that he was still contentedly following Dani’s lead. “What if it disappoints? Wouldn’t you wish you had just told me instead of wasting time keeping it secret?”

“Glad you could make it,” Jay said, crowning Dani with a pink tiara since he’d missed her arrival in the past five or ten minutes. There was a lot going on for the host of a child’s birthday, as it turned out. But Sarah had also just gotten there, and despite her general lack of consistent parenting, she was at least trustworthy enough to look after and entertain Katie for a while, so Jay was free to converse with other adults for a few minutes at least. Not that he necessarily considered Dani a real adult yet—even at her big age of twenty-two, she might as well still have been the teenager he taught in high school. Mature enough, though, to babysit his daughter here and there when he couldn’t make other arrangements with the daycare or his parents, which was why he decided to point out Katie’s mother to her, as she was one who knew about his single parent lifestyle. “I’m surprised that Katie’s mom showed up,” he muttered as an aside to Dani, nodding towards where the blonde woman was dancing around with their daughter.

“Sorry. Be more specific next time,” Glade advised, finding the trash can she pointed out to throw the condom away in. It was actually a pretty hilarious little misunderstanding…if only she had a sense of humor. But then, maybe she did. He found himself laughing aloud at her speculation that he was trying to steal her underwear to jerk off with like some kind of hard up teenage virgin after a panty raid. Was her evaluation of him really so low that she thought it was more likely he was some kind of sexual deviant than that he simply had enough consideration to not throw her panties on the dirty ground? He might be a gamer loser, but he wasn’t a pervert. And he didn’t need to swipe anyone’s panties to get off with either—as was evident by the fact that he literally just had sex. With her. Which was why he couldn’t even take her insults seriously; she was really reaching just to find reasons to dislike him after all this time. “Why would I do that when I could get the real thing anytime I want?” he countered, raising his eyebrows. “But if you really wanna imagine me jerking off to the thought of you, go ahead. Maybe you’ll be able to get yourself off next time if you do.” He winked.
It was actually a good thing she was ushering him out the door without further ado, because he was kind of getting horny again now thinking about the scene Dani had made earlier while touching herself, and picturing her doing it again later, thinking about him. Maybe he would do the same…Except he reminded himself once again that he couldn’t fuck her until after the Halloween suit was done. It would probably be easier to resist if he put all thoughts of Dani naked aside until then. He could get it from anyone else for the time being. As he crossed the threshold of the door, he turned back to offer a cheeky salute, answering her with, “You got it, boss,” before making sure to let her know to stop tempting him with her feminine wiles. “By the way, I’m serious about the commission, so you better text me. And no more jumping my bones now that this is a professional working relationship.”
She rolled her eyes at his complaining. Pushing him off of her the second he pulled out may not have been the warmest of reactions one can make post-sex, but what did he expect? Dani wasn’t about to stay lying against the hard table with Glade still pressed on top of her like she was some soft surface with yabos just so he can take an extra breather. Not only was her former position starting to sting on her back now that she didn’t have the focus and stimulation of him literally fucking her to distract the redhead from where she was being fucked on, but pushing him away the first chance she got was meant to be a reminder. Glade was a strict no-strings-attached kind of guy— he made that clear from the get-go when they first met and so Dani was only trying to honor that. No, she wasn’t the kind of girl who fell for every single person she sleeps with, but she was the type who did enjoy post-sex kissing or cuddling as she didn’t believe that one needed to be romantically attracted to someone in order to do that. It was comforting, and having some kind of aftercare in general was nice, but Glade didn’t like doing any of that— it was too intimate for a hook-up. So he can whine all he wants over her hasty reaction—or impatience as he put it—but this is more on him than her. Besides, he’s lucky she waited until he came before shoving him off, it would’ve been way crueler of her if she had done so once he gave her the climax she wanted.
Nose scrunching, she looked at him with disgust when he raised the used condom. “Not that!” She claimed, in disbelief that he would actually think it had been that she was referring to. Dani nearly let out that it was her panties she was asking for, just about ready to call Glade a pervert if he didn’t hand them back to her— why would he want to keep it anyways? Something to hold against her as a reminder of how she allowed herself to hook up with him again, maybe? That almost had her blood boiling, but luckily, he caught on in what she was referring to and pulled out her panties from his pocket before giving them back to her. “Yeah right, you just wanted to jerk off with it back home, didn’t you?” Dani commented, slipping them on but not without muttering “Pervert” in a hushed tone. The panties felt a little uncomfortable and her thighs were a bit sticky, but that was some cleanup she’ll have to deal with once she got back home. “There’s a bin over that corner by the way.” The redhead then said pointing at the trashcan that was on the right corner from the door, now referring to the condom since Glade hadn’t disposed of it yet. She made a note to come back in here first thing in the morning and discard the trash completely so none of her co-workers would know what did in here. Without even looking back at him, she unlocked and re-opened the door. “It’s late— you gotta go for real now.”

Slightly had been in a bad mood since finding out that one of his best friends was going on a date with one of his exes—even if it was just a “friendly” thing, he didn’t want his boys to be all buddy-buddy with somebody who had once broken his heart. What if they hit it off and started hanging out regularly? What if Cubby then wanted to invite Dani to group hang-outs and parties, and Slightly just had to deal with her presence for the rest of time? It was supposed to be a clean break; they didn't stay friends for a reason.
Yet, perhaps counter-intuitively to his goal of never seeing her again, here he was at her door to have a little talk. He didn’t even have a plan for what he was going to say, he just knew that he had to say something. “Stay away from my friends” seemed a little too much, but he would wing it and see how it went. He smiled when he saw her, despite himself. “Hey, long time no see.” That flash of a smile fell immediately as he remembered everything. Among that, what he was here for: confrontation. “Can we talk for a minute? I heard about the blind date thing.”

Dani’s smile grew a little more at the question but they just nodded. Yes. A surprise for Lark. They didn’t try to mask their open curiosity as they watched Lark began to examine the new-to-him plant. It was always fascinating to see how these folks interacted with the world as compared to the people they’d spent most of their lifetime with. Their smile grew as Lark shamelessly bit into the blossom before shrugging with a shake of their head. There’d been a sort of unspoken knowledge about what plants were good to eat, which were good for injuries, which were to be avoided at all costs but they’d never really named them outside of things like ‘oh-no-bad-itchy plant’ or ‘good-for-burns’ one.
The gratitude suddenly turned on them made their cheeks start to heat so they carefully closed their hands to avoid any embarrassing burns as they grappled with both wanting and feeling overwhelmed by the attention. “You welcome.” They weren’t sure that Lark’d done anything to bring Dani and their plants into their lives but they decided to let that one go and instead pull themselves up to sit where the plants had been to watch the rest of the process.
Which meant they caught the full twinkle in the side-look tossed their way that pulled out a full grin from them as they ducked their head. “No, not nearby.” Dani confirmed before glancing up and briefly assessing Lark as he suggested accompanying Dani into the jungle one of these days. “Have you been in the Labyrinth?” Dani asked curiously, tucking their legs up and wrapping their arms around them as they kept watching Lark.
They likely wouldn’t be surprised one way or another. Most people were likely called into the woods at one time or another and so far these ones have managed to survive. “I would take you.” They decided before being unable to resist tacking on the playful, “Some day.”
Their eyes drifted over the rest of the workspace, curiosity being pulled away from Lark to the scent hanging in the air. “What’s today?”
☁︎︎☽☀︎︎☾☁︎︎
Lark couldn’t help, but notice the way Dani tensed up when he thanked them and wondered if he’d said something wrong. The anxiety of wondering however quickly dissipated when they pulled up beside him, seemingly eager and interested in what he was doing. The interest that Dani showed in Lark’s work was attention he wasn’t entirely used to on the island. After all, it wasn’t as if it was particularly fascinating to watch someone crush and mix plants, but Lark appreciated the company.
Dani’s grin shone like a sunbeam, fitting for their attunement, Lark thought. He had an idea, before they even said anything, that they had found the plants in the jungle. Perhaps he caught on by the way their eyes lit up when asked about where they found them. And then they mentioned the Labyrinth.
Excitedly, he pushed his current project aside and leaned his elbows on the table, coming in closer to Dani. “Been there? I love going there. So much risk, but so much reward. It’s what I find so appealing about it. There’s always something new to do or find. Don’t you think?” He knew how they loved the Labyrinth, as they called it, but he loved seeing the way people responded to being asked about things they were passionate about. He searched Dani’s eyes as though trying to find their experiences somewhere within their depths.
When Dani offered to take him he was ready to pack up his work for the day and go at their word. But then they tacked on the ‘some day’ and he leaned back, gripping his chest as though he’d just been shot, “Oh Dani, here you had me thinking you were about to whisk me away, free me from this drab place,” he gestured around at the small shed, then sighed, “but I’ll settle for ‘some day’ as long as it’s a promise.” He winked and folded his arms back onto the table where they’d been before, giving the slight bob of a shrug as the table absorbed his weight.
The thought of a break and being outside sounded nice right now and Lark couldn’t help, but be distracted of the idea now in his head. Dani’s question brought him back to the task at hand, “Hm? Oh!” He turned back to the tray he was working on and pulled it back over, “I was working on cumin. Tomas also wanted me to make mayonnaise, but I’m not sure I’ll get around to that today.”

Dani was indeed, a party girl, club going up on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday girl, shutting them all down by Friday and Saturday, but recovering Sunday and Monday to prep for all the fundays, so no surprise she was here, dancing, singing privately and doing karaoke. She had no friends here, her twin had yet to make their decision, and her pups were with sitters constantly when she wasn’t around, so she could make some time for fun. She wasn’t really fond of the music selection at Lyons, though there were worse, and better places, but here, it was a good place to start the night out, cheap shots of jack (not that it mattered) and short lines for entry made it her stop A, but she’d been here for an hour, and that was enough time for her to feel her alcohol jacket come on, and heat start to creep on to her forehead. It was about time for her to hop to the next bar, and with that she mad her way to close out her tab, opening her mouth to catch the bartender, but instead of her voice coming out, she heard someone else’s. Dani pulled out a small box of matches, frowning blatantly at the offer. “Uh no, but thanks, I don’t know you or what that’s laced with. And they’re just matches, they’re the cheap kind. I won’t hunt you down if you keep ‘em ”
Raine studied the matches. “Yeah, that’s the weirdest shit. Why are ye keeping matches?” they asked, their way of slowly moving over the subject of the joint being laced, which their mind fell upon soon, watching the other with narrowed eyes as they lit the joint. They broke three before they managed to light it. “Ye know, would be kind of dumb if I laced something I intent to smoke myself, but fine, gotta look out for yerself, eh.” They held out a hand then. “Name’s Raine, they/them pronouns.” They took a first hit, swallowing the smoke, vibing with it.

The little girl clone was the last person (or ghost) that he expected to meet in the Hive’s streets. Not shifting into his ghost form, annoyed that he would run out of its daily use, he stepped outside the cafe that he treated as his office, approaching her.
“Ah, Daniel might not be here, but you will do for now. That is, unless you start melting again”, he said with a smug grin on his face. Maybe now it was his time to shine and get Danielle on his side in case the annoying half ghost boy showed up.

It was no secret that Dani wanted to learn more about Binx's date, considering this was the first time he was dating someone in centuries. Knowing how Dani is though, he didn't want her to overwhelm Sophie with a bunch of questions after they were just settling back into the dating life again. He'd ghosted her for awhile after discovering she was magic, and now he wanted to make it up to her. At least, that was the initial plan.
After Max pulled him to the side to tell him that he saw one of the Sandersons at the Halloween ball, Binx had to find Dani as soon as possible. His heart was racing, immediately thinking of the mistake he'd made in the past with his own sister. Max was quick to admit he was high, so Binx knew it was up to him to be responsible tonight. He felt bad for ditching Sophie already, mentally promising that he'd find her and explain once he knew where Dani was. Exhaling a breath of relief as he saw the younger girl, he tried to hide his panic for a moment. He didn't want to freak her out unless he absolutely had to. "Dani! You doing alright?" He asked, using his fingers to fix his likely dishevled hair. "You haven't seen your brother or ... or anything strange, have you?"
Dani had been so consumed with the film and other personal related stuff, it hadn’t crossed her mind how a full moon had came and passed. It may be because typically, Binx would come and visit her whenever there was a full moon and so, the redhead didn’t need to pay attention to whenever one happens. But then again, she liked being on point of them Mostly because it helped her know whenever Binx was in cat form if she ever were to try and look for him (though when he doesn’t answer his texts, that alone told her what the answer was), but also because things always happened to feel a little more off whenever a full moon was out. Maybe it’s because that’s when weirdos likes to cone out. That said, it may have been a good thing that Binx hadn’t visited her this time around— she was actually in relief that the cursed man hadn’t because that gave her one less older sibling questioning her on things the redhead had yet wanted to be honest about. Dani knew she had to tell them at some point on what else she had been busy doing, but for now that will stay as a secret between herself and herself alone.
“Eh, I’ll make sure to mark my calendar for when the next full moon is out.” She commented, pretending to seem uncaring over Binx’s promise even though the smile on her face said otherwise. Dani didn’t doubt that Binx would honor his promise, but with Halloween night almost nearing, it was best for the redhead to be on point about it herself. With a snort, the girl stared at Binx with raised brows. “You agree with Max all the time!” She claimed. Seriously, if it were up to both Max and Binx, Dani was one hundred precent certain that she lived inside a magic resistant bubble if it meant the redhead wouldn’t do something dumb that was magical related. “Yeah, we do. All four of us.” Though tricking Max and Alli into watching the movie together didn’t sound half bad either…. “And what about you, Binx? What have you been up too while I was all hauled up inside my home?”

dani in california (1)
The waves, the wind, the sand, everything at that moment seemed so perfect. My own miniature paradise. I vacation to Avila Beach every Thanksgiving with my family but this year was different; it’s my first year in college, 18 years old, and on my own. Evidently, my college was 7 miles away from this hole-in-the-wall beach town in which I loved. I was here in Avila 4 days before my parents and all my family showed up.
I was sitting on the beach reading my favorite book, The Great Gatsby, taking in the warmth of the sun. The rhythmic sound of the waves must of been too peaceful because I fell asleep on the beach.Thank God I wore sunscreen.
I missed the sunset which I’m fine with because I’ll see one tomorrow. I went into the only grocery store in Avila to buy some ingredients for fajitas; I haven’t had a good meal in a while, dorm food and all…
“WHY CAN’T I BUY THIS? I WANT THIS STUFF NOW!” was what I got through the screaming drunk man at the cashier. He was slurring his speech but it sounded like he had an accent?
“Sir, you are not old enough to buy alcohol, I apologize.” the cashier responded. A few curse words later, the boy (not man, since he wasn’t old enough to buy alcohol) stormed out of the store. I bought my groceries, said sorry to the cashier about that boy, and walked out of the store.
I was walking out of the store and I saw that boy lying on a bench. I went over to wake him up because I didn’t want him to stay in the street with hobos, assuming he wasn’t a hobo. As he opened his eyes, I couldn’t help but admire his piercing green eyes. He was cute, very cute.
“Hey, I know you’re drunk, but everyone needs a place to stay at night, do you have one?” I asked, hoping I would get an answer from this hammered Brit.
“My hotel is in San Luis Obispo, so I’ll just drive home.” He responded.
“You are not driving,” I countered, picking him up and hauling him to my rental house. 20 minutes later—usually a 3 minute walk, but since I was hauling a drunk hot guy, it took a while to walk—we finally made it to my house in Avila.
My 2-bedroom blue rental house was up the hill from the strip of stores that is the town of Avila. The house had windows everywhere to give that beachy, sun-drenched look. Everything was small, the kitchen, the TV, even the shower. But the character of this house was marvelous. It had an ocean view from the back porch from which you could see everything from, whether it be the dogs running on the beach or the sunset that I had missed tonight
This boy was barely holding on so I dragged him to my spare bedroom and pushed him on the bed. I brought him a glass of water and a banana, but he was passed out.
Then I got a good look at him. His tousled brown hair was sitting on top of his head. He had a red sweatshirt on from a store I have never heard of. That sweatshirt lifted ever so slightly up so I could see his Calvin Klein underwear under his not-too-tight jeans. His beige Vans reminded me of the ones I had when I was in high school.
I go back into the kitchen and make my fajitas, they were delicious. Soon I fell asleep with my door locked, just in case this stranger was a serial killer…

Going to the ball with Dani was an obvious and immediate “yes” even if she wouldn’t have taken anything else for an answer. Ferdie hadn’t met anyone he’d actually like to take as a date-date since returning to the island; his brother was taking Fawn so they couldn’t go stag together; and even if he’d wanted to take a page out of Morty’s book and invite his own ex, Louie had made it clear he wasn’t going out anytime soon—not to mention the whole thing he had with Davis. But Dani was one of Ferdie’s new favorite people since he’d come back home, and her excitement over the holiday of Halloween itself was contagious, so he was more than happy to go along and even pick out an orange suit that matched her chosen dress for the masquerade.
The night itself came on fast as a wink, and at some point Ferdie got separated from his date while she talked to one of her friends and a movie star mistook him for his identical twin, engaging him in conversation. When that was over, Dani popped back up seemingly out of nowhere with an even more random question locked and loaded to fire at him as soon as she sat down. Perhaps it wasn’t so unexpected of a topic for Halloween—but it was the way Dani asked it that piqued his interest. She seemed a little more serious than someone just asking a silly, spooky question for the sake of the season.
“Thoughts on witches?” he repeated, chewing on it for a moment. “Historical, fictional, or those new age hippies that play with crystals and cards and call themselves witches? The medieval witch trials were driven by religious and misogynistic panic. The Wicked Witch of the West is a gay icon, gotta love her. And I don’t really buy into the tarot-reading schtick—it just seems a little weak for someone with magical powers.” Everything he knew about Magica de Spell and Lena flashed through his mind. “Real witches might use their powers for good or evil, but why would they waste their time telling fortunes?”
Rather than saying anything in response, the girl just smirked ominously before laughing. She turned away from him, now grinning wide at the site of the boutique and how excited she was for her next find inside of it. “As if you wouldn’t have kept walking with me forever if there hadn’t actually been a place.” She retorted in return, sticking out her tongue in a childish manor. Dani dropped it not even a minute later, hooking her arm around Ferdie’s before she shot him a wide smile. “It’s for the upcoming Halloween Ball, duh! You’re coming with me as my date and I’m not taking a ’no’ for an answer!”
~~TIME SKIP~~
After promising Binx that she would stay on the lookout in case of anything were to happen, the redhead parted ways with the older, and as soon as she wasn’t within his line of sight, Dani sighed. It had been a stretch to hope that nothing would happen at this ball but knowing that so many people were here and how it was Halloween of all days, Dani felt like she should’ve expected that something might go on. Thankfully, besides any strange feelings that she and Allison has been having and now knowing that Sarah was at this ball too after running into the blonde the other day, the girl just had to be on guard of anything. As she walked, she noticed that her date was finally done with his conversation with Angelica as the blonde stood up from the table she had dragged him to, leaving Ferdie there alone. Making her way back to him, the redhead sat down on the previously occupied seat and shot him a look. “What are your thoughts on witches?” Dani randomly asked.

liildenniison:
The worst feeling she’s ever felt was knowing that she couldn’t give Slightly what he wanted. At first, she hadn’t realized how in too deep things were going to be back when their relationship started. Dani had been so sure that whatever she and Slightly were going to have would only be for a short time, and not just because she already had feelings for someone else when she began dating him, but also because at the time she thought it was all for fun. The thrill of getting to date for the sake of it, and to experience things that she hadn’t gotten the chance to outside of whatever she’s heard from her older brother and friends. A Summer fling. It wasn’t meant to be serious— but it did, and like Dani said, contrary to what Slightly might think of her now and of their relationship, she did in fact have feelings. Feelings that at times, made her think that maybe a relationship past the Summer was possible. Feelings that, as much as she may deny them, were still somewhat there even now. Which is why him putting all the blame on her stung because she knew she was in the wrong. She’s admitted to it, but she also can’t help but wonder if she hadn’t ended up liking Slightly as much as she did, would Dani still feel guilty about how she went about everything?
“I just can’t.” She claimed, staring back at him. Dani wanted to give it a try with Dipper, she really did, but there was a part of her that couldn’t. The fear of how he would react to her confessing was just to great, not only because there was the potential of Dipper not reciprocating, but also because she really couldn’t lose him. She’s seen the way Max was when he had to let Allison go, and that was with the knowledge of knowing that she was always going to come back. Allison was always going to come back to Max. But if Dani lost Dipper? it would just be way too painful knowing that he was still nearby and yet wouldn’t want anything to do with her. And the fact that she already had to go through that once? Feeling her eyes beginning to sting, she tore her gaze away from him before sitting down against the couch. “You say I’m me as if that explains everything and yet it’s because of me we’re broken up. I’m the reason you got hurt, just like I’m the reason why you were so angry a moment ago— and I get it. If I were you, I would still be angry and upset too.” She said, only for her eyes to sting even more as she heard what Slightly said. It really freaking hurts knowing that if it wasn’t because of her, they both still could’ve been together. “….You were too good for me and I lost you because of it.” It’s kinda ironic, actually, on how she always thought about how Max could’ve fought for Allison to stay or how he could’ve gone with her. But now she found herself wondering how things could’ve been if Slightly fought to stay with her. If he hadn’t let them break up regardless of whether she had feelings for someone else or not. But it wouldn’t be fair on him if he did.
Slightly still didn’t understand why she could be honest about her feelings to him, but not to the man they were for himself, besides what he suspected before—that she cared more if she lost Dipper. Which was fine; he had already known that for a long time. She had known and liked Dipper before she even met Slightly, and she would probably continue to long after (even on a platonic level.) But why was she so convinced that she would mess things up by saying how she felt? From Slightly’s point of view it would be practically impossible to drive someone away with a confession of love, especially if they were a real friend. Maybe his perspective was limited as he’d never been on the receiving end of such a thing…But how could someone liking you as more than a friend be a bad thing, even if you didn’t feel the same? And as it was that much likelier that the object of affection in this situation would return Dani’s feelings anyway, the answer seemed so simple. He considered it from the opposite side: being the person who was in love with someone who didn’t feel the same way, and how hard it was to even be friends with that knowledge eating away at you, let alone if they also knew it and still didn’t want you. He stared for a long moment at Dani, finally understanding, and he nodded. “Okay.” That was the last time he would offer any unsolicited commentary on that subject. If she had enough doubt in her mind that her love would be returned to not feel comfortable making a move, he was nobody to convince her otherwise.
He had spent so long blaming her for the downfall of their relationship that it should have felt satisfying hearing her take accountability for all his heartache, but it didn’t. In fact, her guilt just felt wrong, the tears in her eyes making the same spring to his own. Although it was probably worse when he allowed himself to believe that Dani never truly cared about him, at least it was easier to be angry than to be sad. Having to face the truth—that she was hurting too—didn’t lessen his own pain, but compounded it. As bitter as he’d been over the fact that she liked somebody else, they had broken up because he would rather give them both a chance to find real happiness than continue trying to force something that wasn’t right. And Slightly would turn himself inside out trying to prove himself worthy of it, but the one thing he wouldn’t do was humiliate himself by begging somebody to love him. To be that vulnerable, all his soul-deep desperation laid bare to be witnessed and judged—how could he survive it? Then she cracked him open, saying something so unrealistic that he would have thought it was a cruel joke if he didn’t know better.
“Too good for…too good for you?” He couldn’t stop the laugh from bubbling out even if it was watery. That was the funniest damn thing he had ever heard. And if she was going to be honest, so was he. “Yeah, right. I’ve never been good enough for anyone. Fuck. Look at me, Dani! I’m not smart, I’m not brave, I’m bullshitting my way through life like ninety percent of the time. The only thing I’m actually good at is music, and whenever people start to really get to know me they leave. Every time.” Except for his friends, the only people in life he could count on no matter what. No matter how annoying or stupid he was being, they’d always be on his side. That was why it had hurt for Cubby to prioritize a stupid blind date with his ex, whether it was that big of a deal or not. Slightly was just grasping to hold onto the few things he was sure of. “I don’t think it was all your fault, you know. Not anymore. You can’t help how you feel. But don’t try to sell me that...‘it’s not you, it’s me,’ crap. I already know I don’t measure up.”

Cubby admitting that this was awkward for him too only proved Dani’s point. Which begs the question once again, why did either of them agreed to this date? “You know, you could’ve told me that you can’t go on this date and I would’ve understood? Its not like there was an actual rule or obligation for us to have a date just because we both happened to sign up for one.” Dani commented, despite not finding it surprising that the reason he decided to come was to not leave her ghosted. Cubby was a nice guy, that much she knew, so as in crazy as being randomly matched to her ex-boyfriend’s best friend was, all things considered she figured he would’ve came regardless of the situation. Even if Dani herself had decided to leave him hanging, he would’ve showed up just in case.·
Instead of giving the statement about Slightly not being thrilled about the two being on a date, the most Dani did was snorted at the comment with a roll of her eyes. “It’s going to be weird.” The redhead honestly stated. “There’s no way around it, but if you don’t like hate me for hurting your best friend, then it’s worth a try to not make it as weird……” Blanking with the rest of her words, the girl then nodded at his suggestion. “How about the park? It’s a nice day out and we can just chill on of one the benches or find a nice tree to sit under?”·
.
Cubby smiled sheepishly as Dani pointed out the obvious, shrugging his shoulders as he stuck his hands in his pockets. “I know .. but it still felt kinda rude, I guess. It’s not like you and I have any problems with each other.” It was only their mutual connection to Slightly that made this awkward. Obviously, Slightly wanted Cubby to side with him because Dani had broken his heart, but Cubby felt there was more to it than just that. It was why he tried to offer to get closure for Slightly, but the gesture was ill-received.
“No, I don’t..” Cubby admitted. “It feels like I’m supposed to, but I also feel like it’s fair to give you a chance.” Wendy had also suggested that, and he trusted Wendy’s opinion. Thinking about how upset Slightly was about Cubby agreeing to do this still hurt, but he hoped that once it was over, they could all move on. He nodded at Dani’s suggestion with a small smile, motioning for them to start heading to the park. “Yeah, let’s do that.” There was a moment of silence that followed as Cubby wracked his brain for something else to say. “So besides this .. How are things?”
