despite her assurances, concern scrunches up his features, brows knit together. still, he agrees with her plan, gathering chopper's smaller form up in his arms. it's sheer luck that usopp isn't among the unconscious, and good thing so that carol wouldn't be alone in trying to figure out how she would bring them all to safety. from this point on, he would need to be more reliable , especially since one of their strongest was down for the count.

Khan did not expect this to happen. Not at all. Just like he certainly did not expect to be the one on the ground rather than on his feet - and he finds himself baring his teeth in return to the assault, feeling something within his shoulder give to the pull on his arm, chest pressed into what is essentially made of concrete, dirt and grime. It hurts and he hisses, spit flying from between his incisors as he does, the world momentarily spinning for a second or two, rendering him useless.

That probably means he suffers from a concussion, he thinks to himself; The way his forehead had collided with the very same ground before definitely makes it possible, all things considered, there's even some blood dripping from somewhere, he can spot it decorating the gray stone close to his eyes.

A second or two passes where he just breathes, trying to get air into his lungs - but then he makes a decision, gathers whatever energy he still has and moves like a spring unfolding; His body twists and his legs stretch out, colliding with the other one's own, making her stumble as he rolls onto his back and, effectively so, throws her off of his frame. Once done he stands, quickly so, but does not attack - Khan rather takes a step back, defensive, brows knitting as his bright blue eyes take in the sight of who dared to attack him like this.

there is too much good to be done,  too much to be learnt  -  they're just puzzle pieces in a much bigger picture.

green blood seems to stain them both.   half dried,  half fresh,  constant still even if now it only trickles like dying stream.  she should have told @danversiism back when first impact came and yet blonde would have been in impossible position,  a choice no captain should never have to make.   a choice no friend should have to make.  there's no need for romulan's touch empathy to know the worry flooding through other,  to know how once she's put down the contact moving hair stuck to face is desperately checking to ensure air still finds its way through lungs.

she's fine,  scientist wants to promise,  pointless muscle memory when consciousness and sleep all taste the same.  she's fine,  she'll be fine,   it's just a scratch.  but reassurances need a voice to be heard  &&   it requires far more than she has left within herself.
