Best Siblings Round 2: Thian & Yang (To Sir With Love) vs Kuafah & Daonuea (Star in My Mind/Sky in Your Heart)

Thian & Yang: "I know this drama isn't as popular but legit they are the best brothers I can't even. The fact that even as children they were so close and supportive. They have different mums and were raised to compete with each other, constantly told to hate the other, but the whole time they stuck by each other. And Yang is so damn protective of Thian and Thian will stand up for Yang and the whole series I'm waiting for the classic 'bros are close, need drama/misunderstanding so they fight' but it never happened?? Thian was literally engaged to the girl Yang loved but they openly communicate the whole time, work together find way out of it. And then Thian dealing with the whole sexuality and the coming out scene where he can't say the words and he doesn't need to bc Yang knows and he doesn't care, he makes sure Thian knows he's loved and he'll do anything to protect Thian's secret and be there for him. I just love them so much and they balance each other so well and I love how they could be interesting and complex characters with great plot and there wasn't a forced third act argument for drama. their mums did all the hating, but those bros stood by each other every step of the way."

Kuafah & Daonuea: "I think khuafah is a really good older brother. He shows up for his brothers events and knows about the things going on in his life, even tho he’s way older and busy with his job he still checks in with daonuea and knows what’s happening in his life. Daonuea also is a very good brother and you can tell he really cares for khuafah. From the way he calls him and checks in routinely and tells him not to drive if he’s too drunk. Their relationship feels very genuine and loving. Also I’m pretty sure they’re half brothers but it’s never weird between them and they don’t treat each other any less because of it."

Things that baffled me about be my favourite

1) Not being on friendly terms with everyone come graduation.

2) translating Pisaeng and Kawi saying khrap in a mushy way as "sir". If they wanted to be cutesy but a little formal as every Thai honorifics 101 post tells me is what khrap means in this situation they should have gone with "my love". Like instead of saying "don't you have any plans today, sir?" Something like, "don't you have any plans today, my love?" Imagine Daonuea of Star in My Mind, king of saying khrap mushily, was an anglophone who called Khabkluen ''my love'' all the time. It fits doesn't it.

daonuea's love language: words of affirmation.

he needs them like a confirmation. perhaps, he wants to know if his feelings are validated. if he can still harbour this hope, this love, for someone that has been a constant in his life, heart. if he can.

he needs them like a sign. if kluen is frank with him, about his feelings, he won't be so puzzled. won't be so confused and messed up with everything they shared behind the curtains. when there's only them here, there, everywhere, anywhere. just the two of them. audibly happy and visibly in love. even though, maybe, he did notice those tender, fond advances from kluen– but still, it's not enough to make him believe that kluen feels the same way. it's not enough to silence the demons in his head— he's just being nice. not enough.

khabkluen's love language: acts of service.

he shows. he never hides them. the way he gently holds onto nuea. his little, i'm in love with you smiles. i don't have anything prepared for today. keeping him company when everyone else was gone home. attentive to nuea's needs. acceptive of nuea's interest. paints with him– something that nuea truly adores. doesn't really question nuea's words but he listens. he listens. because nuea has so much to say and he has so little– he absorbs everything and let them steep into his skin. an old flame. because it's daonuea talking to him. his precious, precious, northern star.

he's bold with his actions. a kiss. he went for it. more and more. even when nuea showed discomfort, confusion, my feelings aren't a toy for you to play with! even when nuea pushed him away. because his love runs deep in these little actions. so lost without clear direction. because kluen doesn't know how important these words mean to nuea. because he doesn't understand if words can ever convey how much he loves nuea. words aren't enough for kluen— no.

and their love is– somehow– represent them both; northern sky and waves. they are each other's reflection. and what better way for them to find closure than kluen being nuea's northern star and nuea becomes kluen's waves?

for love is a complex thing between two people. and love is– destructive almost. kills and heals. mends and breaks.

but if one tries to hold on, perilously, foolishly, the other— don't let go. not yet.

Yoo was the older gay son who prepared his family for everything that was about to come their way when Vee, in a long-term relationship with his girlfriend, drunkenly slept with rich boy Mark. Yoo was the sole witness to Mark and Vee's chaotic morning after, but made sure to tell his little brother to do right by Ploy and Mark and make a decision. Yoo teased Vee when Mark made a sober appearance at the house, and gave neither boys peace when they finally became an item. If only we had gotten Yoo's sequel "Call My Name" so we could see how Vee would act seeing his brother fall in love."
