Useless Veilguard fact of the day: Day 2
There is a cut line in the script where a Dalish (?) Rook could tell a momma joke to someone in elven.

Useless Veilguard fact of the day: Day 12
Apparently, you were originally supposed to check your letters physically inside the Lighthouse, rather than inside the Missives menu. There are leftover voicelines for Varric letting you know about new letters (featuring a mention of an old concept for the player base being the back of a Fade creature).
Varric: You got more letters. You want me to chuck them somewhere? Out a window, maybe?
Varric: Hey, Rook. Someone sent you a letter.
Varric: I can't believe I'm saying this, but you know your mail's starting to pile up, right?
Varric: Mail's here. Who makes deliveries to "Weird base on the back of a giant Fade creature"?

Useless Veilguard fact of the day: Day 6
Every companion has an IsOverused_ and IsUnderused_ plot flag that impacts the way they can greet Rook at the Lighthouse. For example, if you don't take companion out often enough (and they become "Underused"), they will start asking Rook to bring them along.
EDIT (since I saw some people wondering about it in the tags): the companions won't complain if they are overused. Instead, they are excited to be getting out and are glad they are doing good work!
Check out this post by merrinla for example of lines for underused Lucanis.

#a wonderful mechanic if I do say so myself!#too bad you'll literally almost never hear companions' greeting lines bc the game seems to prioritise them bantering with each other#over them being in their rooms#that's not me throwing shade on bioware or anything. I honestly find it kinda funny they'd go so far as to programm this#useless davg fact of the day#dragon age#dragon age the veilguard#veilguard datamining#flowers.txt#flowers blogs

Useless Veilguard fact of the day: Day 60
It looks like you could originally upgrade the lyrium dagger and use it as a key for... something. The conversation file the lines below come from is titled "glb_bb_rook_DaggerStuff", so there isn't a lot of clarity on what was actually intended to happen.
I bet I could use the dagger on that. The dagger got it open. Great. Looks like the dagger is the key to this! Seems like I could do something with that once the dagger's a bit stronger. Dagger might work here, when it's a little stronger. The dagger's trying to open it! And… done. The dagger worked. Looks like the dagger can do something here. Done! This dagger's useful for more than just killing gods. The dagger's doing something! The dagger! It activated it. The dagger doesn't seem strong enough to do anything with that yet. The dagger's reacting, but… weakly. I think it needs more power. Dagger's reacting. I should be able to do something with it. Guess the dagger was the key. It's open now. This dagger should work here.
It appears that using companions' traversal abilities while they aren't in the party was one of the things locked behind dagger upgrades.

Useless Veilguard fact of the day: Day 41
According to the Reddit AMA, the developers originally intended to let players explore multiple area of Minrathous, and not just Dock Town.
The game files suggest that one of these areas may have been Minrathous Streets that are currently available only during the prologue and the dragon attack. Several of the Dock Town NPCs are located in the "MinrathousStreets" folder instead of the "DockTown" folder, and the name of that location is also mentioned in a few cut script lines:
"Use the map to go to the Minrathous Streets."
"Chests_T1_MinrathousStreets"
"Continue Shadow Dragons 2.2* in Minrathous Streets"
*In the final version of the game, Shadow Dragons 2.2 refers to the quest "The Soul of a City".

I don't know what everyone else's favourite DAVG OST is, but mine is this song that only plays in the Inquisitor Character Creator and for, like, 5 seconds in the Atonement ending.
I, in fact, loved it so much that it became the reason I first downloaded the Frosty Editor and got into this whole modding and datamining thing. Every time I post something of that nature here is owed to Really Wanting to Listen to this one track.
