Color coordinated couples in cars have a special place in my heart

A sample of what I’d expect from a Cars 2 stage play script:

BRENT MUSTANGBURGER (O.S.): It’s time to find out. The racers are locking into the grid.

On the track, the racers form two lines extending behind the starting line.

BRENT MUSTANGBURGER (O.S.): Eleven athletes, each a champion in their respective circuit, all wanting to prove that they’re the best. None of them have driven this course. None of them have used this fuel. Folks, this is going to be a great race.

At the rear, McQueen shuts his eyes.

MCQUEEN: Speed. I am speed.

A laugh interrupts him. Francesco is right next to him on the starting grid.

FRANCESCO: Really? You are speed? Then Francesco is triple speed.

He closes his eyes.

FRANCESCO: Francesco is triple speed. Ho-ho! Francesco likes this, McQueen! It’s really getting him into the zone!

MCQUEEN: He is so getting beat today!

BRENT MUSTANGBURGER (O.S.): Here come the lights!

A series of red lights blink on, one after the other, then a whole section turns green. The cars take off.

DARRELL CARTRIP (O.S.): Here we go! Let’s go racing, boys!

BRENT MUSTANGBURGER (O.S.): There is going to be tremendous speed from all these cars coming off the starting line. None of them want to be left behind early.

As the cars zoom down the lengthy straightaway, McQueen and Francesco weave around their competitors to the front of the pack.

DAVID HOBBSCAP (O.S.): Wow, look at McQueen! Now, remember, he started in the back row, but look at the ground he’s making up!

Francesco takes the lead.

BRENT MUSTANGBURGER (O.S.): McQueen and Francesco duel for the inside line as they head toward the first turn.

Francesco leads the cars around a turn with McQueen close behind.

Meanwhile, garages line the pit lane. In each one, a crew chief uses a headset to bark orders to their racers. In McQueen’s pit, all of his friends wear a headset.

SARGE: His suspension sets look good.

LUIGI: Tire pressure is excellent!

FILLMORE: He’s got plenty of fuel.

MATER: And he’s awesome!

Below a jumbotron showing McQueen, cars occupy stadium seating, which rises above the course.

In a downtown office skyscraper overlooking the race course, Finn and Holley watch Mater through a telescopic display.

HOLLEY: Why is he in the pits? He’s so exposed.

FINN: It’s his cover. One of the best I’ve seen, too. Look at the detail on that rust. It must have cost him a fortune.

Holley uses on-board computer dual trackball platforms.

HOLLEY: But why hasn’t he contacted us yet?

FINN: There’s probably heat on him. Be patient.

HOLLEY: Right, of course. He’ll signal us when he can.

FINN: And then we find out who’s behind all this.

Back in the race…

BRENT MUSTANGBURGER (O.S.): As they head into the palace hairpin, Francesco builds an early lead.

DARRELL CARTRIP (O.S.): Ah, hang on, boys. Here comes the dirt. Slipping and sliding, baby.

The track terrain changes from asphalt to dirt.

In McQueen’s pit, Mater watches the monitors.

MATER: McQueen, it’s time to make your move! Get on the outside and show him what Doc done taught you!

MCQUEEN: 10-4, Mater.

Ahead, Francesco struggles to brake, but his tires can’t gain traction.

DAVID HOBBSCAP (O.S.): Oh, boy! Francesco is brought to a screeching halt!

BRENT MUSTANGBURGER (O.S.): McQueen is the first to take advantage!

McQueen takes the outside line and powerslides past Francesco.

BRENT MUSTANGBURGER (O.S.): And just like that, folks, Francesco’s lead is left in the dust.

Raoul ÇaRoule also takes the outer lane to move ahead.

DAVID HOBBSCAP (O.S.): And this dirt track section continues to baffle some of these racers.

Several racers struggle to maintain traction on the uneven terrain. Some of them have to take the corners slowly to avoid spinning out.

MCQUEEN: Nice call, Mater. Keep it up!

McQueen now leads the racing pack.

DARRELL CARTRIP (O.S.): Whoo-hoo! Man, McQueen looks happier than a roll bar at a demolition derby!

The field of racers crest a hill made of paved road and thunder into a tunnel.

BRENT MUSTANGBURGER (O.S.): Everyone’s jostling for position as we hit the asphalt again.

Francesco crests last and accelerates.

BRENT MUSTANGBURGER (O.S.): Francesco lost a lot of momentum in the dirt. If he wants back in, he’s gotta pick it up in the tunnel and the tight turns at the Shibaura district.

DAVID HOBBSCAP (O.S.): Well, he’s got some serious work ahead of him if he wants to get back in this race.

DARRELL CARTRIP (O.S.): It’s anyone’s race right now.

BRENT MUSTANGBURGER (O.S.): This track has equalized this diverse field. The World Grand Prix will truly crown the world’s fastest car.

The cars exit the tunnel, then make several sharp, narrow corners, having to briefly pull power at each turn. Francesco moves up.

BRENT MUSTANGBURGER (O.S.): Francesco is on the move! He dramatically slides into sixth and he’s looking for more.

Lewis swerves left to cut him off.

BRENT MUSTANGBURGER (O.S.): Number 2, Hamilton, slams the door on him!

The cars come to a zigzag portion of the track, then reach a ring-shaped section spiraling toward the Rainbow Bridge.

BRENT MUSTANGBURGER (O.S.): Now, the racers hit the Rainbow Bridge, with its 360-degree loop.

McQueen leads the group onto the bridge. Several positions behind on the four-lane track, Francesco ekes ahead of competitors, catching up to third place. McQueen rounds the final corner.

DARRELL CARTRIP (O.S.): Look at McQueen! He’s never raced this course before, but you wouldn’t know it! He’s having a ball!

On a rooftop, Grem watches through the Electromagnetic Pulse Emitter’s view finder and focuses it on the racers.

ZÜNDAPP: (over Grem’s radio) It is time.

GREM: Roger that.

Grem shifts the lever to full power.

On the course, Francesco passes the second place Brazilian #8 and rapidly gains on McQueen.

BRENT MUSTANGBURGER (O.S.): McQueen and Francesco jockeying for position as they power down the Ginza straightaway.

DAVID HOBBSCAP (O.S.): And here come the leaders, barreling towards the line.

David is green with blue eyes. Brent is blue with green eyes. And now Ive seen it I can't unsee it. And I dont want to unsee it because this is absolutely adorable. Like lil opposites. *chefs kiss*

There is very little that David Hobbs hasn’t accomplished in racing, both overseas and stateside. Born in Warwickshire, England, in 1939, Hobbs was in the front rank of British drivers who came to prominence during the 1960s. He got his start driving a Lotus Elite fitted with an automatic transmission designed by his father, which won its class at the Nurburgring 1000km in 1961, believed to be the first international win for a self-shifting race car. He went to Le Mans as a driver for the works Triumph Spitfire team shortly thereafter. He drove the first Lola GT, the forerunner of the Ford GT-40, at the Sarthe in 1963, and was a team driver for the John Wyer stable of Ford GTs that won the 1969 world championship, David along with co-driver Mike Hailwood drove a Gulf GT40 to a third-place finish at Le Mans in 1969. Hobbs would go on to race at Le Mans a total of 20 times. He made his Formula 1 debut in 1966, notched 22 North American victories in Formula 5000, raced in the Can-Am series, ran the Indianapolis 500 four times with a best finish of fifth, earned 11 wins in IMSA with two podium finishes at Le Mans in the same timeframe, and took the 1983 SCCA Trans-Am championship. Since retiring from driving, Hobbs has been a frequent TV commentator on racing, working for CBS Sports, ESPN, and his current assignment as a Formula 1 analyst on NBC. David appeared in the Cars 2 movie, which premiered in June 2011, as announcer "David Hobbscap", a 1963 Jaguar from Hobbs' real life hometown in England.

his time with Darrell Cartrip must be kept on a time table because the two of them will talk about racing and their experiences until the cows come home

prefers his dark green paint job because it reminds him of the forest, particularly, an evergreen forest he once vacationed at and longs to go back to
