Even is my second favorite character of Skam, after Sana. Thankfully, no remakes made me dislike a version of him, although they would have had to be particularly bad to manage to do that. So, even if, since this is a ranking, there will be one ranked at the bottom of the list, keep in mind that I love all of them, contrary to my other rankings.

Don't hesitate to comment your own opinions on the matter ;) (and obviously you do not have to agree with me, this post is in no way made as a dig for anyone who does not share my opinions)

(Nico will not be in the ranking, seeing as I did not watch skam italia, but I'm sure I would have loved him too)

1- Eliott Demaury (Skam France)

Eliott, aka ottelli, king of urbex, defender of dustep, overgrown excited puppy, artsy raccoon, litteral ray of sunchine, matchmaker of saphics, hedgehog lover, hispster among men, accidental poisoner, beauty personified...

Yes my baby does deserve a Daenerys presentation.

Eliott not only became my favorite character in the whole skamverse, but also one my favorite character in all medias. He was even THE character that motivated me enough to write fanfics about. I really think he will stay in my heart for the rest of my life.

He is the only Even remake that did me the "Even effect", as in I instantly had a "boom I'm in love" moment the first time I saw him. I could defintely relate to Lucas when it came to that ^^.

It was great the writers gave him an important role in season 6, finally realizing what a golden character he was, but i still think he could have been more exploited and given a proper arc and ending.

Firstly, I really admired how unapologically himself he was. Seriously, the guy danced like a crazy gigantic giraffe on dusbtep (I litteraly had to pause and closed my eyes so many times the first time i saw this scene xD) AND admitted to be a huge dork that saw himself as a raccoon to his CRUSH the first time he managed to take him into his flat, AND IT WORKED!!!! (tbf he is lucky Lucas was already super whipped but still). As a person who is always so wary about talking about myself, about what other people will think, etc, the fact that he was just so confident (without being arrogant) of who he was and was not afraid to tell the world, was so incredibly inspiring to me. He is such a genuine personne and I really love him for that.

And they were not afraid to show what a fucking dork he was. I mean the drawings, the dustep on vinil, Poni, the dance, his cute laugh,...He was just so fucking endearing and adorable!

It is also a character who has so much nuances, and they just made sense and were so well done. Like I said, he was confident about himself, which also helped Lucas to be more confident about being himself too, but also extremely insecure due to his mental illness and his relationship with Lucille to the point that he left Lucas out of nowhere and went back to his ex because he was that sure that no one could truly love him. He was so fucking kind, sweet, and open to everyone, and I could only admire him (yes, again) for being like that despite not having had an easy life. And he was so open about his love for Lucas too, seemed to be so happy and overexcited everytime he saw him, and was never afraid to show it (like he was litteraly screaming "he's my boyfriend!!! Isn't he super hot?" in the boat lol) and it was so delightful to watch. However, he could also be extremely closed off and lash out when he feels himself being theatened. The best example is when we saw him in "double date". At this point in the story, we were used to shiny, smiley Eliott and there he was so harsh to Lucille (not that she did not deserve it, given what she said) and just so closed off in general. Like he is nice and maybe a bit naive but he is defintely not defensless, and can bite to protect himself even when it is not really needed (not talking about Lucille here, like i said she did deserve it but when i saw this scene i had not expected for eliott to be that cold). And while he had everything to be a super cool popular guy in highschool, he actually was a real lone wolf, which was kind of heartbreaking sometimes, but also told so much about his character and made me love him even more.

As a love interest, he was really amazing too. The way he just knew how to be there for Lucas and made him know it was ok to be more open about his feelings by simply listening to him without ever judging him, how they both felt so safe with eachother, it was just so beautiful. I also love how he was so endeared by Lucas being a little shit lol. And sure, he was not the best boyfriend as he had a tendency to hide things from Lucas. However, to me, it just made him even more interestings, as it delved even more into his psyche and insecurites, and how he has a tendency to overprotect himself or the things he cares about. I just wished we had gotten to have a resolution on that (I will NEVER forgive skamfr for leaving his story like that).

His mental illness, too, was in my opinion really well touched upon. He really got to talk about by himself, in season 3 with Lucas, and in season 6 with Lola. It was never romanticized or made as if his bipolar disorder just disappeared because he was happily in love, but he managed to find his people (btw i really wish we could have seen more of Idriss, the one scene they had together was adorable) to love him and support him as he was. I'm so happy he has found people to hype him up, like we saw at the end of season 6, or with Jo having a crush on him, or with Lucas being the most loving boyfriend... And all that culminated to him being able to be a sort of guru for Lola in season 6, and that he even transmitted her what Lucas had taught him with the "Life is now". That was so beautiful. But even then, they made it clear that everything was not okay (as we saw in the bar scene with Lola), and it always hurt to listen to him talk about his issues but it was very important and made him such a compelling character in my eyes.

And he was so talented too!! His art had so much personality (especially with the animals of course) and was just so beautiful. He was such a little rebel with urbex too, all that in the name of art in the end <3 And It was also great to see him living his dream when he made his film!

He is so empathic too, knowing exactly how to help people (like Lucas and Lola) and ho wti understand and listen to them, the way he saw the world, felt so much, fell in love with all the little things, could see the beauty in everything (like with La pPEtite Ceinture)...He was such a beautiful character. A real way of sunhine, like i said.

Of course a big hype up to Maxence who did an amazing job, and was so invested into this character. It really is astonishing that this was his first acting job.

Look, I could talk about him for hours to be honest, so I'll think I'll stop here lol. I just love him so much. He is so kind, and clever, and funny, and endearing, and interesting, and such a dork... I LOVE HIM YOU HONOR!!!

2- Joana Bianchi (skam espana)

Cool girl with a colored hair. I was totally powerless, ok? I HAD to have a crush on her!

She had this very confident energy that was just so alluring. I also really loved her snark and harsh vibes, even tho she was still very capable of being so sweet too. She really had this take no shit aptitude and I love it.

The writers really let her have flaws, let her fucks up, and I liked that, it made her character very compelling.

I also found it interesting that she was not that comfortable displaying her sexuality in public, as normally the Even never has a real problem with that, but that did not stop her from being very open to Cris about her feelings for her. She was very a "in the moment" kind of girl.

I also liked that they let her tell Cris herself about having bpd instead of being outed by someone else. And, like Eliott, she still had problems regarding that even after having gotten together with Cris.

It was cool to see how she was integrated in the girl squad, and that her artistic talents were used and praised upon, because she was indeed very talented ^^ And her friendship with Amira! We did not see much but it seemed to cute!!!

And she was just so sweet deep down, she just wanted to be loved, and she was ready to help everyone who needed it. Seriously, she could be a real angel sometimes.

Overall, like she had said to Cris, she was a very intense character, and you could really see she felt so much.

There were still some things that were not handled well imo : it's a little thing, but the movie "La vie d'Adèle" was just so bad in term of representation of wlw, it completely trashed over the story they were adapting (which was written by a queer woman i think), and was so obvious in its fetishisation of saphics. So I really do not think she would like this movie and this song, even though it's a really great song. Like I said, I liked that they showed she still had problem with her mental health but the way they made Cris handled it was so insentive (she always made everything about herself, and even called Joana "crazy" after Joana confided in her about her illness, seriously Joana deserves so much better). Also, I did not like the little moment in season 3 when Joana complained that Cris was not ready to come out to her parents. As much as I do not like Cris, this is just so wrong to push someone to come out for your own benefit.

But all in all, she was a very complex and enjoybale character to follow.

3- David Shreibner (Druck)

He was very different from Even, but not in a bad way.

I really liked his Big Dick Energy. Like the scene where he and Matteo run away from the bus after he stalled the controller was GOLD. Or when he introduced as Matteo's boyfriend to Hanna's new bf with his "don't fuck with me, or my boyfriend, or my boyfriend's bestie" face xD

He listens to Hozier. That should be a reason enough to love him.

I liked that we got to see a "date" between him and Matteo before everything went to south. It was a good way to show how well they fit together lol, what with their weird ass play.

His relationship with his sister was really sweet, and I wish we had seen more of it, but I do love sibling relationships in medias and you could see there was a real bond there. She was really protective and he trusted her a lot. His relationship with Jonas was really adorable too, he was really supportive, especially concerning Hanna ^^

Replacing him being mental ill by him being trans was not necessarily a bad choice in itself. There are indeed very few trans characters in medias, and in the skamverse too (where there is only David and Max), and it is important to talk about it. But I do not think it was really handled well (that's only my opinion as a cis person of course, but i did see a lot of discourse where trans people were not pleased). He did not need to be outed, and Matteo took way too long to accept him as trans. Besides he could have been trans AND bipolar, it was possible to do that. However, it was really heartwarming to see the whole gang having his back (even if it seemed a bit like an oversimplication of fixing transphobia), and him being so badass with Matteo when they went to the principal office. A real power couple ^^

Besides, he really was far too absent in season 3 when it was supposed to be the season that let him shine. So i had a hard time having a handle on his character.

As aforementionned, him being different ended up being a good idea. He was more sassy, having his shoulders more on his shoulders, dar more reserved and even a little shy (although that was mostly with Matteo lol) and he thus seemed like a more "approchable" person...Until you talked to him and he had this super dark humor that he said super serioulsy and it made me instantly fall in love with him. He was still artsy, and I loved seeing him having all of his ideas for his weirdass film about aliens in season 4, but he was less "head in the clouds" that with the other Even, and it made the dynamic with Matteo pretty interesting, with a good contrast with the disaster that was Matteo xD

However, I also think cutting the Sonja's storyline was a bad idea. To me, this storyline was so important for the Even, to show how far he can go because of his insecurities, that he really does think he is unloveable. It is one of the thing that made him, in my eyes, an interesting chracter and explored his characterisation. But there, they did nothing to replace it appart from him just running away, which like I said seemed to mostly serve for him to have less screen time so less characterisation. Cutting flaws from a character is not always a good idea.

He was very cool and I wish we had seem more of him...

4- Sander Driesen (WTFock)

So yeah, I know he is last, but I really do love him!

I loved how goofy he was allowed to be, it made him so much more human. His bad boy persona was pretty cool too for an Even (well as much as Even can be a bad boy lol). He really had this whole "I act tough but I really am a marshamallow that wants to be loved" <3 He was real jack frostie bitch ^^ Like he was defintely the kind of guy I could see myself be friends with, he seems really fun.

I also loved seeing him in his element at his school, it was so amazing to finally see an Even like that!!!

But he greatly suffered from WTFock season's 3 writing. His one liner that were supposed to be sweet ended up feeling very unnatural and eye-rolling worthy. And sometimes he was kind of an asshole for no real reasons (or at least it was never explained). Like, he physically hurt his gf in the paintball scene and we were supposed to find that romantic (look i know she was a horrible abusive gf but attacking her like that was not ok)??? He cheated on Robbe with his ex, the day after they were assaulted, just after telling him he loved him, and we had absolutely no explanations on that???

We also don't know much about him, when I think about it. Even Yasmina's season erased her usual connection with him :(

And he is also the Even of which the mental illness was not well handled at all in my opinion. We had to wait days to finally know if he was okay. Everything was made to be Dramatic with his mental illness instead of informing us about it, something they never really did. And it seems to be really romanticized with Robbe too, but that's just my impression...And I really don't think he would he super happy and telling Robbe he is an "angel" for asking his roomate to keep an eye on him and to report every thing he does and if he took his medicaments. He could have been amused or something, but super thankful and all after having gotten out of an abusive and controlling relationship? I have my doubts.

So yeah, unfortunately, in my opinion, he was the least well handled Even, but he was still amazing!!!

DAY 2: TRADITIONS

''Stop it! If you keep eating the candies, there won't be any left for our houses.''

Matteo grinned and reached for another red jellybean, making a show of putting it in his mouth.

David narrowed his eyes at his boyfriend, taking the bowl of candies away from him. ''Enough,'' he decided.

Laughing, Matteo rolled his eyes.

Making gingerbread houses had been David's idea. Being Jewish, he didn't grow up with the same tradition as Matteo and his family for the holidays, but he wanted him and Matteo to have their own tradition. Being both terrible cooks, anything involving baking was crossed out.

They settled for a non-religious tradition: a gingerbread house competition. It wasn't expensive and seemed relatively easy.

After half an hour, the festive activity turned out to be more difficult than they assumed - especially the building the house part. The icing wouldn't dry and the walls kept slipping and falling. It was frustrating.

‘’Agh! It’s not working,’’ David complained, fed up with his gingerbread house. He thought he had it, the walls were almost all up, but the front wall ended up falling half a second later, causing the others to follow down. ‘’We’re gonna need hot glue.’’

Matteo laughed at David's misery. ‘’Hot glue?'' he repeated, dipping his finger in the icing to secure his walls instead of the spatula.

''Yes.''

''That's cheating.''

''I don't care. No house, no competition. It's the decorating part we're competing on, not the house building.''

''My house is doing just fine. See?'' Matteo pointed with a cheeky smile. The icing was spilling from the corners of the house, but it was indeed standing up.

''Fuck off.''

''Let me help.'' Matteo got up from his stool and went over the other side of the table, picking up one wall and coating the edge with icing. ''Getting angry at your house won’t make the walls stick up.''

Ten minutes later, Matteo had successfully built both houses and the competition could finally begin.

‘’Ready, set...decorate!’’ David declared, going for the jelly colorful gummies and placing them neatly in rainbow order on his roof while Matteo went with gumdrops, creating a similar pattern.

The next minutes were spent in silence, both boys concentrating on their piece of art...until Matteo got a mischievous idea and smeared icing on David's nose.

''Matteo!'' the brunet protested, looking away from his house and glancing at Matteo who had an amused grin on his face, looking proud of himself. David dipped his own finger into the icing, ready for his revenge.

Sadly for David, Matteo saw him coming and dodged his index, causing the icing to smear it on Matteo's cheek instead, making an even bigger mess than intended as the bowl of sprinkles fell on its side in the commotion, spilling on the table. Oops.

Neither were bothered by the mess, starting this icing smearing war that could only end badly, keeping on chasing after the other around the kitchen like children. If Hans were to see this, he’d scold them for making such a mess - or he’d join in.

''Look what we have here.'' David looked up and nodded at the mistletoe hanging on the kitchen's door frame.

‘’It was Hans’ idea,’’ Matteo explained.

‘’Well, we need to own up to the tradition, do we?’’ David looked at Matteo with a knowing look, smiling at his boyfriend.

Matteo shrugged, looking smug. ''If we must...''

The kiss lasted much longer than planned, neither boys wanting to stop, enjoying this much more than decorating gingerbread houses. Matteo let out a whine of protest when David pulled away, breaking the kiss.

''Let's finish the houses first. Then, we can be kissing all you want. Okay?''

Matteo sighed, but agreed.

They returned to the counter where their houses stood, incomplete. ‘’Use your candies, those are mine,’’ David said, catching his boyfriend stealing a handful of gumdrops from his side of the table.

‘’But I don't have any more gumdrops left. You’ve got a ton.’’

‘’It’s your fault for eating all of them. Use something else.’’

puppy eyes and David, being the smitten boy he was, couldn’t say no to that face. ‘’Alright. But don’t use them all, I’m gonna need some for the walkway.’’

Matteo rolled his eyes, but only took a small portion of gumdrops.

One of the things I miss about a potential David S5 is the idea of a Skam season without major romantic relationship drama as one of its central conflicts.

I’m sure other people have talked about this, but one of the big issues for every Skam season is the “will-they-or-won’t-they” plot between the main and their love interest. And that’s not bad! Romantic relationships are crucial to most people’s lives. But, they aren’t the only major relationships people have, nor are they the only source of drama.

One of the advantages to having Matteo as the main for S3 is that there isn’t the need for that same kind of problems. I’m not saying there shouldn’t be any romantic conflict, but it would’ve been a nice change of pace to show it as more everyday squabbles (a la Cris and Joana in Skam España S3). That way, the major issues could focus on the plot threads set up during the previous 2 seasons (David’s relationship with his parents, the transition from high school to university, his dreams of becoming a film maker, his potential top surgery). Pragmatically, it would also be a less jarring transition between the old gen and new gen (set up the new gen characters as side characters during S5!).

I still think Druck’s S5 could do something similar, but it’s a shame that they didn’t do it with David when the narrative was set up pretty well for it.

Congratulations on your milestone! I wish for davenzi, some fluffy morning. David being awake first and thinking about how much he loves Matteo. Matte waking up, them just being totally adorable and in love. Set a few years after them getting together.

David rolls over in bed, or at least tries to while being koala hugged by Matteo. His sleepy boyfriend is such a cuddle bug, clingy when awake and clingy when asleep. He manages to maneuver around Matteo’s clinginess, and Matteo only mumbles unintelligibly before settling back down, head on David’s stomach.

David looks down fondly at him, petting his hair and twirling it around his fingers. Matteo snuggles closer in his sleep, and David can’t help but fawn over how cute he is.

He smiles to himself, eyes tracing the curve of Matteo’s nose, of his lips. David could kiss those lips every day for the rest of time.

They stay like that for awhile, Matteo dozing on David’s stomach and David playing with Matteo’s hair. It’s nice. It’s everything they ever really wanted.

David remembers a few years ago when this didn’t even seem like it was possible, when he was just a scared kid running away from the world. It all seems so far away, now, with Matteo so close, bathing in each other’s comfort and familiarity.

Matteo starts to stir, blinking blearily and looking up at David through his lashes. His eyes are such a clear blue in the morning light coming in through the window.

“Good morning, sunshine,” David says, earning a smile from his boyfriend.

“Good morning, vampire,” Matteo jokes.

“You better hope I’m not a vampire, if you’re supposed to be sunshine. Vampires and sunshine don’t mix well.”

“Sure they do, look at us.”

David laughs and leans down to kiss Matteo’s forehead. Matteo hums and scoots up so his head is resting on David’s chest. His hand ghosts over his scars, and David shivers at the contact.

“You know I love you,” he says, “so, so much.”

“Mhm,” Matteo hums. “I love you, too,” he adds, looking up at David expectantly.

David gives him a quick peck on the lips, and Matteo smiles to himself, satisfied.

“Should I make breakfast?” David asks. “How does shakshuka sound?”

“Mm, I was thinking pasta,” Matteo replied, “a la Luigi.”

“Pasta?” David repeats, laughing a little. “For breakfast?”

“Why not?” Matteo counters. “We’re adults, we can eat whatever the fuck we want.”

David laughs at that. “You’ve got a point. Okay, how about this: pasta a la Luigi today, shakshuka tomorrow.”

“Deal,” Matteo says, pulling David closer, “but not right now.”
