Celestial Pleasures: Miscellaneous Thoughts on PheeJin's NC Scenes
So I keep seeing gifs of PheeJin's NC scenes and apologies to whoever really enjoyed it, because every time I run across it, it just makes me laugh.
That Bulldog Astronaut saw several moons that night, but I'm not sure they were ever the exact moons that he wanted to discover.
Imagine being Jin's parents and you're coming back from a long day at work or maybe you finally were able to go on a date night and you see your son's room light on. So maybe you go around to his bedroom window and you're just met with the sight of your own son sprawled out being absolutely railed.
Or if they were home, Jin and Phee were not quiet at all. Those ass slaps were heard all around the world. Even if they were on the first floor they must have heard the first, the second, the third- I fully imagine his parents sitting at their couch, just looking at each other like this:

It is so interesting to me how the callback to Phi's "red string of fate" with Non is associated with Jin in this episode. It takes the form of Jin's camera strap, the thing Phi and Jin first connect over. The rope is thicker, longer and more pronounced than Non and Phi's matching bracelets were.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Could this be an indication that Phi is already moving on from Non, and realizing Jin is a better match for him? Or is this meant to be a glaring reminder for the audience, to remind us where Phi's focus should be but that he is clearly losing sight of it? I think it's both.
This isn't the only time we (and Phi) are directly reminded of Non. The writers are very heavy-handed with it.
We get another callback with Phi's apple, missing its bite partner.
Tumblr media
And with Jin mentioning wanting to see the Milky Way at the secluded lake, just like Non once did. We can see Phi is charmed by it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We can even see Phi getting lost in the ruse completely when he rescues New from his hallucination. He calls him Tan, even though none of the guys are around and there would be no need to do so.
Tumblr media
I worry what this means for Phi at the end of this, since New is extremely committed to his revenge. New has nothing left to live for except to find out what happened to his little brother and destroy anyone and everyone responsible, and he's already warned Phi once not forget who where his loyalty should lie.
I think Phi's days are numbered.

Idk man there's something so incredibly sad about Phee and Tan's relationship. Like. They met and started working together because they were the only two in the world really fighting to find Non. They barely knew each other, but they understood the guilt of failing him, the desperation of it which was so all-consuming that they chose to twist their life around finding him and finding out what happened. They have had nobody but each other to trust with this.
But they're also different. Phee lost someone he'd just started to love and understand, but he's also falling for another and torn between the two. There's a life he sees outside of this guilt-ridden secret mission. On the other hand, there's Tan. Every bit of him is for finding out what happened to Non. The guilt of failing his brother and losing him is so enormous that he throws away any life he could've built for himself. Lies to his family, loses any friends he may have made at home or in England, loses his future, and then even what's left of his family. There is no turning back because there is nothing else left for him outside of this. All he has is his guilt, the desperate hope of finding Non, and Phee.
And I think Phee feels the weight of that too. If it didn't include abandoning Tan, I think Phee really would have eventually let go. Tan has known his brother all his life, but by the present day, Phee has spent longer looking for answers about Non than he's ever known him!! It would've been heartbreaking and he would feel guilty forever but he would let the past lie and rebuild a life, if it weren't for Tan. But Tan cannot turn back, and after all this while, after having kept each other company through all this so long, Phee can't bring himself to break with Tan either. Its guilt of course, and after all those years it may also be genuine care for Tan as a person. He will stay and breathe life into Tan even as he burns himself up in search of Non.

In episode 2, we see a scene of Tan hearing screaming/chanting and seeing a ghostly figure in the forest home. But, as of episode 9, we know that Tan has been taking the hallucinogen antidote... so what was this? I think there's three major possibilities.
1. Tan is shown to use that drug over and over so he can see Non. Perhaps extended exposure to the drug has addled his mind, so now he's prone to hallucinations even without the drug...?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. There really was someone in the house. I think this is likely, given that Tan's "hallucination" happened directly after Fluke has one, too, and right after White finds the bloody knife. It's possible that what Tan sees is real, but what he hears isn't... or perhaps both what he sees and hears is real, I won't discount that possibility.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's also likely, in my opinion, that there's a ninth person in the woods anyway. Partially because there's a deleted scene where Por counts up to nine, and because it seems like everyone is accounted for when Por has his "accident" in the woods...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sorry about the subtitles on that, iQiyi didn't want us to see that dialogue clearly...
3. There really is a ghost in the house. Perhaps the group are hallucinating due to Tan's drug, but then there's also something there haunting them, taking advantage of their addled state to cause chaos... and they don't even know it. Perhaps Non's ghost? Or something connected to the Janta cult? Either way, I won't discount that there's both a human and a supernatural explanation to all of this.

Dead Friend Forever Ep 9 initial reaction
HELL YES I WAS FUCKING RIGHT on multiple fronts wooooo I love it when things go the way I want.
Although also I was wrong on one thing which is slightly disappointing but whatever!!!!
I do have new questions because I’ve rewatched ep 1 and there are some things that still ain’t quite clicking. I’ll put the questions at the bottom.
Let’s get into the photo review.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay I was suspecting drugging of the water when they showed Non getting drunk on something on the tape White saw. But what is up with Jin MAINLY feeling guilt about the teacher not Non. Very weird. He’s seen the dead teacher multiple times unless that’s Por? Which I don’t think so? Jin doesn’t know he’s dead yet.
Tumblr media
Oh Non…. 😭😭 I felt his absence all episode really it felt like he was always just in the background of all the actions.
Tumblr media
As an older sister I would never fucking stop if this happened to my little sister. New had obviously tried to be the perfect child for his parents to the point of ignoring his brother. I believe he fucking studied his ass off because in pretending to be Tan we saw how fucking smart he really was again and again.
Tumblr media
I’m ready to hunt them all down too. I don’t blame Tan for being fucking pissed at Phee about getting too close to Jin. Because Phee annoyingly didn’t find out anything when we as the viewers know Jin DESERVES A SHIT TON OF BLAME DEFINITELY MORE THAN POR. Anyways. So it is tough to watch the lovey Dovey scenes then see Tan trying his hardest to get justice for his brother Tan NEVER stops.
Tumblr media
Okay so White is younger and he’s not in on the scheme then. Idk when Tee starts dating him but I am kind of glad he had some happiness. As much as what he did to Non is fucked he did feel bad about it and was forced into it by his dad needing medication that his uncle paid for also his uncle probably paid for him a place to live too.
Tumblr media
Oh so maybe baby is alive. Or he was alive longer than Tee and Top pulling him out of the house anyways.
Tumblr media
Okay so I haven’t rewatched all of the early eps but I don’t know if Phee is aware Jin leaked the vid of Non. Also I find Jin’s approach to relationships psychotic. He’s extremely possessive and focused on his interest but he doesn’t really consider them people. When Phee tells him ‘oh we are just friends’ Jin doesn’t talk to him in two years?! I mean maybe Phee had a bad day or whatever it seems insane for Jin to assume he’s desperately in love with Tan and did it all to shame Jin in some way when what Phee did was consensual causal fling. But then again didn’t Jin go fucking crazy when he saw Non and Phee together from behind. Jin wanted non to be his but was ready to hate him at the drop of a hat. Jin didn’t love Phee or Non he loved the idea of being in a relationship with them for himself. He’s a narcissist.
Tumblr media
Oh so Tan/New is fucking desperate his mom and dad are dead his brother has been missing for years and he doesn’t have any leads. The police have given up. Phee his only ally has basically given up as well.
Tumblr media
Okay so the bathroom scene with Tee there was smoke. I guess the alcohol at the party is what Por was tripping on before he went into the woods. But also… someone had to have cut on Por…? Idk. I guess Tan drugged Top although I’m still iffy on that. So everything we have seen are the boys biggest darkest fears interesting.
So things I got right
New = Tan
Early events were hallucinations
Thing I got wrong
Phee doesn’t know what Jin has done
White is not involved with Phee and Tan
Questions I have.
Is Top mega drugged? Or did Tan get close to Top and he’s made Top confess already and while he is on drugs he’s actually in on the revenge thing. We did see Tan is probably closest to Top.
Is there another person involved still? Who slashed Pors arms with Non’s knife and left it in the basement? I previously thought it was the teacher but the teacher and Non’s fates are together I think they either both survived or are both dead probably the second one.
Still like to know more about White.
Is Non alive? He was dressed differently in that bus photo.
Why are Tee and Por’s personalities so changed when they meet Phee and Tan.
Is the cult thing real then? Because Tan said he got the herb from that cult right? I thought it was a set and made up for movie.
Why didn’t they make another movie I assume Por’s parents would have wanted him to do that.

Dead friend forever episode 9!
Tan is New, I called it! I'm so happy that paid off!
I am also so glad we are somewhat back to the house and whats going on there.
What a rollercoaster of an episode!
I 100% think Phee caught real feelings for Jin or at the very least Jin definitely caught true feelings for Phee.
I'm glad the theories about Tan and drugging them/ them hallucinating paid off.
Nons family cannot catch a break.
This episode I need to digest cause I have a lot of thoughts, but I need to sit with them.
I am hoping Non is alive. While it probably isn't true, it's a hope I'll probably carry till the end.
Also, poor White because at this point, he is going through some trauma while having no idea why. Unless we are told some something more about him in the last three episodes, I feel so bad that he's more or less along for this horrible ride.

The drug is in Tan's smokes!!! Holy effing gods. That explains why the gang is hallucinating even though they hardly ate and drank anything ever since sh*t went down.
Again, I commend Tan for planning this sh*t. He will be able to avenge Non without getting his hands dirty.

The DFF Experience: A Dead Friend Forever Fandom Round Up (Part 1*)
Tumblr media
I had the wild idea of compiling links to all the various metas, theories, and other resources for DFF for everyone to use so that links and information were kind of all in one place. I dragged @shannankle along for the ride, and we combed through the tag to find all the things we could.
We most likely have missed something even though we tried to be as thorough as possible - if you think there is something we over looked that should be added let us know in the replies or the tags; if you write meta or other resource posts in the future, please tag us and we can add it to the post.
With that, please enjoy The DFF Experience!
