Not to be that guy who jumps into the asks of anyone who mentions authcoms lmao but I think it's best to analyze authoritarian communism first and foremost by what elements it consists of, rather than exclusively what people opine about various countries' implementation of it.
Personally speaking, I find the "dictatorship of the proletariat" to be a ghoulish concept that is so vulnerable to subversion and institutionalized abuse that it more often than not results in the type of tyranny most anticommunists (perhaps unfairly, perhaps not) associate with 20th century communist states. I don't consider myself an anticommunist by a long shot, but I also don't trust many western countries to form working class authoritarian bodies because "the working class" is a class made up of individuals with their own cultures, religions, and traditions, not a homogenized slurry of poor people with no interests, biases, or faults outside of that. There are a lot of authcoms that, frankly, fucking terrify me, and will immediately jump to pretty awful takes (such as discourse surrounding the invasion of Ukraine) in order to defend old alligences to formerly communist countries. I would be unable to have solidarity with these people.
Again, sorry to be "that guy" lmfao
no its ok, i appreciate the response :D im always receptive to discussion!
i hadnt thought abt analyzing authcom by its elements, i think thats interesting. id love to read analysis like that, im not sure im smart (= informed) enough to do that stuff on my own hgffgdhgf
the thing abt the dictatorship of the proletariat? yeah that makes so much sense. ive always been weirded out by the anti-"identity politics" bullshit ive seen some leftists spew, where they claim that the only significant identity anyone should have is their class, and all of this intersectional feminism stuff is a distraction from that hgfdhfgfhgfhgj like. Way to be ignorant and dismissive of real racial/gender/etc dynamics that matter immensely in the current system. thats how we get all these old white commies who claim to be for the proletariat and then are incredibly misogynistic towards working class women lmaooo
like i do believe that class privilege trumps everything else for the upper class. we see it over and over again w marginalized ppl turning into fiscally conservative shitbags the moment they get rich, and suddenly the only activism they believe in is the kind that helps them get richer (girlboss shit)
liberals w zero understanding of class politics are always so confused when some non-white/LGBT/etc rich person goes hard for the republicans, and its not at all surprising if you consider the fact that class privilege is the only thing that matters to the bourgeoisie.
also honestly as much as i despite "anti-communism", i fucking haaaate those pro-soviet tankies who simp for russia at any given chance. i guess if i wanna learn less biased info abt the soviet politics, i should look into non-tankie communists talking abt it 🤔 at least then i know its not just some authright misinfo campaign

I was tagged by @mithli to post some of the books I read this year. P sure it's supposed to be top 10 best but I only read 7 lol. Gonna talk about them more under the cut cause I wanna
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I tag @cyanociitta @aspoopalypse @lesbianbrad @post-brahminism @killyfromblame @deadryn and anyone else who wants to do it just say I tagged you and do it !!! And idc if you've only even read one book this year tell us about it !!
Autumn of the Black Snake was a very good history of the wars between the US and the Indigenous confederacy in the Ohio River valley in the 1790s. It had some issues I could get into but as far as most settler-written histories this was one of the best. It did a very good job of breathing life into the figures and really diving into the personal schemes which motivated colonialism here
Indigenous Prosperity and American Conquest was an absolutely incredible book going over mountains of evidence to show to high amount of prosperity of Indigenous nations here and how the the theft of that wealth function on a small and large scale. It's very academic and also got its issues but cannot recommend it enough
Hoosiers was actually the first book I read when I started this and is partially what motivated me to keep ready cause fuck does this thing suck. Like it's not terrible and gave a good intro to the early colonization of what is now Indiana but then it just ignores the brutality it described to talk about how cool and awesome the US system of settlement is and then drops any talk of Indigenous people after like 1812. My hope is to rip it to shreds one day with what I've learned
An Indigenous Peoples' History of the United States is always a classic. I've had to return to this book a lot over the years and it still holds up. I do wish it touched more on the the history here other than Tecumseh but I get why it didn't. Please read this fucking book
Contested Territories is one I need to return to cause I read it too early into my research and did not have the context to grab all its details. It's a collection of modern research on the lower great lakes and had some great stuff but a lot I'll need to reevaluate now that I know more
myaamiaki aancihsaaciki isn't really a book but I'm counting it anyway. It's a summary of the removal route of the Myaamia to Oklahoma and a collection of primary sources about the removal. It's a excellent resource and there's a free pdf of the Miami Tribe of Oklahomas website
Settler Colonialism and the Transformation of Anthropology is one I've only just started but so far its excellent. It's like the foundational work for the moden academic study of settler colonialism so it's cited in like everything I've read

Hello! Idk if this is the appropriate place to ask, but for dashboard-unfucker type a would you be able to add a slider so we can adjust the width of the posts themselves? Right now they're so wide that pictures basically take up the entire screen and show up all low resolution. Alternatively if you could point me to the part of the code where post width is I could also edit it myself. Thank you!
My script doesn't change the width of the posts; that sounds like the XKit Panorama feature:
Tumblr media
Disabling that feature will return them to a normal width. That being said, you're not the first to ask about a variable width-timeline feature, and in the future I may implement something similar to this but with the ability to control the width.

Last song you listened to: radiorama's extended play of YETI which was going to be my walkout song as a pro wrestler in japan
youtube
currently watching: blair witch. found my old burnt copy of it in a long forgotten multi disk container and its the perfect film for watching on my shitty little crt in my room at night with whiskey
currently reading: going back for my fourteenth reread of statistics a pretty good no powers au fic of life is strange and on the non fiction side we've got the autobiography of malcom x by alex henley, frantz fanon's the wretched of the earth and the jewish labor bund 1897 - 1957 by the international jewish labor bund (this one is a real time capsule as it lists the australian labor party as a socialist party and like... it sure the fuck aint bro)
current obsession: i have to write 3500 word biography for one of my units at uni and i picked nestor makhno cause i really wanted to do a critical analysis of his weird contradictory legacy where cause he fought against the red army's presence in free ukraine he's held up by weirdo fash anticoms and because hes like one of the most popular anarchists he's still like well regarded in the anarcho-communist scene so im just going through all his writing on marxists.org to try and compile a chronological timelime of his involvement in the russian civil war
