One of the comedy things is that, having been here since 2012, for various reasons I technically have over 3000 followers. What this means, quite practically, is that I am followed about by a train of mostly-dead and damned souls (blogs) for all eternity. I am my own Wild Hunt. Which fits the idiom really. But it always feels a little on the nose, particularly at this time of year.

I was looking through the notes on that antler post and sure enough, someone tagged it Deerkult. Glad to see my legacy lives on.

It has not escaped my notice that my top surgery- which was a COMPLETE surprise, is taking place on Wednesday.

I'm still on pins and needles because TOMORROW I get these accursed things off, but inwardly, spiritually, I am GROANING because gods damnit, Old Man, what am I gonna owe you for this one?

What is the Deerkult/Deer Cult? I’ve seen it on a couple witchy/Pagan blogs, and I would love to know more! :)

I'm not the most qualified to answer but I'll do my best. I wasnt part of it and still am not, but i do remember some of the major plot points

A few years ago (2015?) a group of pagan bloggers got hit with a lot of imagery of deer specifically and the Wild Hunt. as well as themes of death and rebirth. they discovered that it wasnt just them and that it was a pretty widespread thing, relatively speaking. it was thus dubbed the deerpocalypse

Turns out it was something of a recruitment drive for several deities from multiple pantheons. When it continued into around 2016, it was then changed to deerkult to imply something a little more.. ongoing.

Nowadays, im pretty sure only a handful of the original deerkult bloggers are still active but in the past. maybe month? ive seen a resurgence of deerkult bloggers. which doesnt surprise me given the nature of the original deerpocalpyse. in fact id be surprised if it didnt get resurected every once in a while

Today, out of nowhere, I'm suddenly getting inundated by references to Wales and its language and mythos.

(from folks and sources that usually don't mention Welsh anything, not my Brythonic folks, since I know enough of you that I have to specify now, lol)

Normally, I'd just chuckle at the neat coincidence and move on?

But I've slowly had more spoons to interact with deities other than Frey and Loki again over the last couple months, and have been getting closer to a few gods who were at the top of my list of Folks I've had to ask to come back later when I have the spoons to actually get to know Them.

Given how high on that list certain Kings of Faery have been for a while, and that Manawydan promised to come back when I had spoons? I have my suspicions on who's involved, and am looking forward to having even more spoons to interact with Them more.

(at some point I need to write up a post about just how wonderful it's been that several deities I've said such things to have been absolutely scrupulous about coming back during windows when I can manage it, and helping me learn to trust that They won't just give up and move on. Loki came back. Odin came back. Gerð came back. but that's a whole post in and of itself)
