10 QUESTIONS WITH DEAR EVAN HANSEN LONDON’S U/S ALANA BECK, ZOE MURPHY—COURTNEY STAPLETON

If you see a tiny house, think of Courtney because she is obsessed with them and hopes to one day build her own. She’s also built quite a career in the West End and is thrilled to be joining the cast of DEAR EVAN HANSEN as it makes its debut in London. Read on to learn more about her.

2.) Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Kent, at home with my mum, dad, older brother and little sister!

3.) What’s your favourite line / lyric from DEAR EVAN HANSEN?

“We can just watch the whole world disappear, till you’re the only one I still know how to see, it’s just you and me.”

4.) What’s the first show you saw (West End, Tour, Broadway, etc.)?

The first show I saw live I think was Wicked, but the first musical I ever saw was RENT on DVD and that’s where my love for theatre started.

5.) What are you currently binge-watching on Netflix?

I’m currently binge watching “Tiny House Nation.” I’m absolutely obsessed with tiny houses and one day I REALLY want to build one of my own!

6.) What’s your favourite app and why?

Spotify is probably my favourite app purely because I love having music on, in one way or another, music always makes everything better!

7.) What’s your favourite song to sing in the shower?

Probably “Purple Rain.” It starts off kind of slow and somber, but it builds and ends up being so EPIC, I love it!

8.) What’s your go-to London spot?

Picture House Central, it’s a quirky cinema near Piccadilly Circus. They have all sorts there, like the latest releases but also the lesser known indie films, there’s a coffee shop, a bar and a rooftop! What more could you want!?

9.) What’s a hidden talent you have that people might not know about?

I wouldn’t say it’s a talent as such but I do know my way around a pair of roller blades pretty well... or at least I used to, it’s been a little while.

10.) What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

To try to be the most authentic and true version of myself, not to change parts of myself for the benefit of others: “To love the you that you are.”

He plays the father who teaches us how to break in a glove, so it’s cool to know that Rupert learned how to play the piano from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s mother. You may have seen him in some of Britain’s favorite TV shows like “Merlin” and “Doctor Who.” When he’s not performing, you can find him walking along the South Bank or binge-watching “Stranger Things.” Learn some more fun facts below.

My Fair Lady West End and Rent on Broadway.

“Stranger Things”

Podcasts. Takes me into my own little world in the middle of a crowded train in rush hour and makes it bearable.

7.) What’s your favourite song to sing in the shower?

Usually vocal exercises. 

8.) What’s your go-to London spot?

Walking along The South Bank. Eating at Hoppers on Wigmore Street. Drinking at Vindinista in Acton.

9.) What’s a hidden talent you have that people might not know about?

I can leapfrog a London postbox.

10.) What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

“Don’t compare yourself to anybody else.”
