Well, since yesterday, I decided to explain all my secret bosses for my Deltarune take.

DELTARUNE: ASTRONOMY.

So let's get started.

Flowlezz.

Flowlezz is the secret boss/Shadow crystal holder to my chapter 3 take.

Flowlezz mostly is based on Woody Theory but not much of a "Friend Inside Me" situation.

He was the local Sheriff to his old town before Tenna's takeover.

After Tenna take over the town and turned it into a entertainment city, Flowlezz holds a big hatred for Tenna, Tenna then throw him away to the desert.

After that, Flowlezz comes across a "someone" who told Flowlezz he can get his vengeance from both of Tenna and the Lightner that thrown him away (Toriel).

The stranger, told Him with the same forbidden knowledge that driven both of Jevil and Spamton to insanity.

After that, Flowlezz hunting the desert to he'll find some IDIOT enough to help him to get his vengeance.

His personality and character based on rhythm games like PaRappa The Rapper and Fnf.

Freed is the other Sock that sans didn't pick it up (the one we see is Sockwald).

Freed was once a famous rapper in the dark world, famous enough that The Greater let him in his castle.

One day, something happened..

Freed's songs start getting boring and the audience start get unsatisfied.

For that, The Greater kicked Freed from not his castle, but from the entire dark world.

Freed, while being homeless, encountered a strange man, the man told him the truths about his existence, the man touched Freed's eye and it explode, leaving some sort of power coming from it.

Freed now stays in his old stage, hoping that someone can bring him the Dark Orb.

Fire-E is my secret boss/Shadow Crystal Holder for my chapter 5 take.

Fire-E takes his concepts away from his "chill" peers.

Fire-E was supposed to be the main mascot to Ice-E, but he been rejected and replaced by Ice-E.

In Dark World, Fire-E been miserably treated like trach by other ICE-E'S as he was different from them.

They casted him out.

Fire-E was miserably waiting for the Lightner that Rejected him (Mayor Holiday).

As he wait, a strange man comes to him, the man told Fire-E that the Lightner will never back to him, and showed him how Ice-E was successful without Fire-E, and no one seemed cared about him.

The man told Fire-E about the truths of his life and everything.

After that, The flames of anger burned inside Fire-E as he planning to "burn" everyone who has forgotten him, till some random Lightners comes across him.

Chuncky is my Secret boss/Shadow Crystal Holder for my Chapter 6 take.

Chuncky (like The Neighbour by @creepa-b0t-inc ) Is based on an horror icon, in this case, Chucky.

Chuncky was a goofy doll been given to MT (Monster Teen) as a birthday gift.

Monster Teen didn't like him, since he "gives them creeps every time they sleep".

So they put him in the their old closet.

In Dark World, Chuncky was a like any darkner, however, he was different, he been jailed in a dark area, where he was calling for help.

Suddenly, a strange man comes to him, and set him free from his prison.

The man told Chuncky about that his lightner has left him for dark, as well as telling him the truth about his existence in a game.

Chuncky, drivied by madness and anger, has started to use demonic magic.

As he wait in the Junkyard, waiting for his Lightner to come one day.

Chuncky's themes:

Eva is my secret boss/Shadow Crystal Holder for my chapter 7 take.

Eva is one three creatures Gaster created, along with Creation.6 and redacted.

Eva was already insane because she already the same forbidden knowledge.

Eva, like the amalgamates, can shift herself into anything she wants, like objects, animals and even Humans and Monsters.

She believes that if she destroy the whole existence and recreate it back, she'll be "Free" from the correct existence.

She finds nothing matters, seeing Life as "Prison of Emotions".

She is one of few who "personally" knows the Angel from the prophecy.

She used to be a normal angel, serving God with her fellow angels.

One day, She sinned and falls from heaven to the earth, and her wings has been taken from her, instead she been given a legs to move.

She stayed in the preacher's church.

Every day, She pray for God to forgive her.

One day, she come across a man, a strange man who told her the truth about her existence and everything.

However, She refused to listen to the man and continued to pray.

With each passing day, she almost went insane.

She then decided to wait for any Lightner to test their faith.

She kinda based on The Collector.

She was the most amazing preformer in the dark.

She was loved by everyone in her dark world, she even called a "Shining Star".

But one day, something happened...

She encountered a strange man.

The man told her about everything from her existence and that she is in a game.

She went insane, to the point that she shattered across the universe.

She been waiting in the stage, as she desires the crown in the Countess' Castle.

She wants crown to absorbs its powers so she can set, not just herself, but also every single creature from both of The light and dark worlds.

... till a sudden Lightner

Till a Lightner comes and accidentally helps her

StarNight's themes:

Unlike most of the secret bosses, Darkrabbit's Palettes is the one used in the legend cuteness.

Darkrabbit also doesn't have any Light World counterparts, because he is darkner based on Lightner's thoughts.

He has no much understanding of Good, since he is very sadistic and very evil.

He always follows Dess through the entire Dark World.

Darkrabbit is also the only secret boss who doesn't talk.

He just wants to play with her...

In A MISCHIEVOUS WAY.

Dance as a motif in UnderTale and DeltaRune

Wow, I actually went and wrote out some of my more unhinged DeltaRune thoughts. Let's not waste this and get right into the analysis.

We're gonna start with DeltaRune because I think that's where the thematic ties are more potent, and then we'll look at UnderTale to see if there's any additional stuff in it that supports it.

Firstly, a detail we'll return to multiple times in this post: Kris's solo act option in the Jevil fight is to pirouette. The specific choice of dance move sticks out to me, as it makes me think of those little ballerina figures in wind-up music boxes. We'll get to why that image sticks out to me later.

Next: In Chapter 2, there's the fight with the robot trio that's resolved by everyone dancing. On its own, it doesn't seem too thematically relevant, but I do think it's significant that this is the battle where Susie unlocks her and Ralsei's ability for them to ACT on their own. In theory, this is them gaining more autonomy... but they're still following Kris's (or, perhaps more accurately, our) command. Not to mention that Susie technically forces Ralsei into it.

I find that this brings out an interesting tension in the thematic idea of dancing: on the one hand, it's an expression of one's bodily autonomy, their skill and creativity. It's often spontaneous and symbolically an expression of freedom (think of the movie/musical Footloose, where the teens of the conservative religious town are banned from dancing). On the other hand, many dances are tightly choreographed, with high-level performers expected to perform them perfectly. And even those that aren't are still, for the most part, bound to the beat, the rhythm of the music.

In other words, dance encapsulates the dichotomy of freedom and control. Of chaos and order. The dichotomy at the heart of DeltaRune's narrative.

Kris's pirouette action in Jevil's fight also contains that dichotomy of chaos and order in it. At first, it seems like its effects are random, but one can figure out that they're actually tied to the turn number, and always occur in the same order. As Toby Fox said about Jevil's attacks, all chaos has some order in it.

Not only that, but there's also a second dichotomy one could consider as part of the first: dancing for oneself, as a personal artistic expression, versus dancing for an audience.

Here's where we begin to transition to talking about UnderTale. Because there's a character in UnderTale who's all about performing for an audience, and has super sweet dance moves: Mettaton.

And Mettaton has a pretty clear parallel in DeltaRune.

Spamton. Who takes DR!Mettaton's artistic creation (the NEO body) for his own, hoping to achieve freedom through someone else's self-expression, and is therefore doomed to fail. Spamton, a puppet dancing on his strings. Spamton, who calls out to a heavenly audience.

Spamton, whom Kris is heavily implied to relate to in some capacity.

Kris, who, when faced with the first secret boss, pirouettes. Like a ballerina in a music box, forced to spin around for as long as they've been wound up.

Kris, who plays (used to play) the piano, but can't do it - can't express themself artistically - while their body is under someone else's control.

Kris, who, when they rip out their SOUL and regain their autonomy at the end of Chapter 1, pulls out a knife and gives a cheeky grin to the heavens. To whatever audience might be watching.

...Some of that is more generally music-related or performance-related than dance-related, admittedly. There's a whole ton of stuff one could discuss re: music as a theme/motif in these games, but I'm gonna leave that for others to go into for the sake of time.

Let's properly transition into discussing UnderTale now, where I have two main examples to point out.

1. One of the pairs of items you can get are a Dusty Tutu and Ballet Shoes. Not just dance-related items, but ones of the same type (genre?) of dance as Kris's pirouette. This item pair is tied back to the blue Integrity soul. To have integrity is to be honest and have strong moral principles. You could say it means being true to oneself. This connection, therefore, basically confirms the thematic association between dance, personal expression, and autonomy.

2. Now, I could go more into Mettaton here, about how his character arc (and that of Mad Dummy / Mad Mew Mew, from whom Spamton stole the "festive jig" bit) reflects the theme of integrity; or how he has that one musical scene with Frisk where he has this strict, boring choreography while Frisk can move around however they want, but no matter what they do, the ending of the scene is still the same; and how all of Hotland is scripted by Alphys, but Mettaton still enjoys the performance, until he doesn't and then decides to make the dance his own...

And I guess by typing all that I kind of already did. But what I meant to get to, is this:

This is the dialogue for the mushroom in Temmie Village. They do a little dance when you interact with them, then look above Frisk's head with piercing eyes to deliver the rest of the dialogue.

The most interesting bit of this to me is the initial, standard dialogue, where Ragel describes their dance as being an expression of their imprisonment and torment. Their lack of autonomy, of freedom. A pain and lack unique to them, as even the destruction of the barrier won't solve their problem.

They have just enough autonomy to express their feelings via dance, but they're still limited by their circumstances. By their very body. Like how dancers are still bound to the beat, and the capabilities of their own bodies.

Can you see the parallels to DeltaRune here? To Susie, who keeps "breaking the narrative", but was also the one to tell Kris "your choices don't matter" and, at the end of the day, mostly falls in line as a Delta Warrior under their command? To Ralsei, who's wed to the prophecy but still tells Kris that their choices are important too? To Kris, who's forced to follow our commands, but begins in Chapter 2 to show more of their personality through the way they speak the lines we give them, finding ways to add their own flair to this tightly choreographed dance? Kris, whose restriction of their autonomy comes back to their very body?

Speaking of DeltaRune and Ralsei, there's one more thing I'd be remiss not to mention, as it's what set me off on this path of inquiry months ago: Ralsei has a weird, out-of-place sprite that has a small chance of showing up at a certain point in the Weird Route. A sprite that's stored, hidden, among his dance sprites from the robot trio battle. This video goes over that whole thing if you want to know more.

In conclusion, dance is a prominent motif in DeltaRune, tied to some of the game's most prominent themes, which UnderTale helped lay the ground for. We'll see how the use of the dance as a motif evolves in future DR chapters, likely coming to a head with the festival Susie teased at the end of Chapter 2.

After all, while one can certainly dance on their own... what about the time-honored tradition of dancing with a partner? A tradition that requires finding a balance between personal expression and following another person's lead?

I realized that if I want to see Undyne & Toriel friendship, I’m going to have to write it myself, so take these headcanons

—At least once a month they have an arm wrestling contest. Toriel always wins. Undyne is always somehow stupidly convinced that she is going to win the next time. Toriel lets Undyne have her delusions.

—Toriel doesn’t know how to play any musical instruments but she’s incredibly proud of Undyne’s piano skills. Any time she catches Undyne playing the piano, Toriel will try and support her by singing along. Toriel does not have any sense of rhythm and is tone deaf. She will make up words for every classical song Undyne plays. Toriel genuinely thinks she is doing a good and supportive thing, and always smiles so brightly that Undyne doesn’t have the heart to tell her to go away.

—Undyne knows in her heart that, of the two of them, Toriel is the better cook. However, Undyne will die before she admits this out loud. After the millionth incident with bringing burnt spaghetti to the family potluck, Toriel politely offers to give Undyne cooking lessons and Undyne accepts, planning to steal all of Toriel’s recipes and finally be the better cook. The cooking lesson ends with Toriel’s entire kitchen on fire. Undyne expects to be banned from Toriel’s kitchen. Instead she is now forced to go there for cooking lessons four days a week.

—Toriel does not like anime. She does not like tv in general. Watching screens hurts her eyes. She gets completely lost during any fight scene. However she can and will forcefully insert herself into family movie night and swear that she’s totally fine and enjoying herself. Undyne keeps trying to pick calm and slow movies so that Toriel doesn’t hurt herself. Toriel keeps trying to pick the most action-filled thrillers to prove to Undyne that she cares about her interests. This escalates into arm wrestling and then a full out fight on more than one occasion. Toriel always wins.

Who Is Kris? An Incredible Detailed Essay Based on Chapter 2

Disclaimer: I do not think it is possible yet to objectively figure out exactly who Kris is. Their relationship with the red SOUL and other characters, their desires and motivations, their personality, their flaws, etc. are all impossible to pin down until we can at least know which actions are their own and which they are forced to do. We simply do not have enough information, and Toby Fox is too good at hiding things in tiny innocuous details.

However, it *is* possible, if we make some assumptions about game lore, to come up with detailed and canonly justified interpretations of Kris’s character. I have spent Way Too Long trying out different theories until I found the one that sparked the most joy and that I wanted to explore the most, and now I am going to go through the entirety of Chapter 2 of Deltarune, explaining what Kris’s feelings are at almost every step of the way.

For this exploration, I only make one simple assumption. Any time there is a dialogue prompt, the choice on the right is Kris’s suggestion, and the choice on the left is the red SOUL’s suggestion. This may seem like a weird thing to assume, but I will remind you that I tried assuming all sorts of different things and thinking through the implications, and we are choosing to assume this purely because it has the coolest implications. So again, right is Kris, left is Someone Else who is possessing them, here we go.

The choices in the first dialogue prompt make the most sense if you assume that the right one is what Kris wants to say and the left isn’t. We know that Kris was almost definitely opening a portal in the middle of the night, and is hiding it, so it makes complete sense for them to be sketchy about it. They may even be hiding it from the red SOUL so they thoughts they are offering to the red SOUL or the things they will say while possessed should match that: they’re hiding something and pretending they were calm and sleeping all night. Meanwhile, the red SOUL spent the night in the bloody cage. I feel like they probably did lose sleep over it, not necessarily even in a bad way, but they were definitely thinking about the adventure, and they weirdly have less to hide.

“Kris is deeply upset that they are being used as a puppet for some kind of entity that is possessing them against their will” and “the red SOUL and Kris get into fights over which anime character has the coolest hairstyle at 2AM” can and should coexist, because: i want them to, and i think it’s funny, and this is my blog i get to pick the headcanon

i have a FEWW gaster songs....!!! the relation might seem weird and flimsy hehe but here they are

noise channel theme this one has a lot to do with my personal deltarune theories involving him , and is kind of in equal amounts a chara AND gaster song on that wavelength? it just has to do with watching someone as their lives play out like a video game and wanting to be involved...a lot of my theories about why chara+gaster or just gaster might create the world of deltarune has to do with that kind of idea, so ... “you’re on the air, wonder if you’re aware? wouldn’t you take me with you out there?”

also a song written by a really shitty awful dude, so i wont link it, but just show the lyrics...i think i don’t really need to elaborate on this one, instead it kind of just explains for itself...:P “ When all the world around me Moved so unpredictably A moment never lasted long enough for me to see the reason why love never came to me, it moves on scientifically but now you’re trapped and i can find a reason now to ask you one more time”
