Round 1 Poll 88: You made that up
Undertale:

Gaster being the be-all-end-all most important character (second to Sans, of course)
Star Wars:

Round 1 Poll 87: Overpowered
Civilization:
That in the second game, due to a glitch, Gandhi's aggression can underflow to 255 out of 10. Civilization II only has three aggression levels, and the game is programmed in a language that doesn't have underflow glitches. (Fun fact: this rumor seems to have started on TV Tropes, and is now documented as a hoax on their Pop Culture Urban Legends page.)
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure:
fugo had to be written out because he was too powerful

Round 1 Poll 86: Hate Allegations
Resident Evil:
The idea that Umbrella and/or Wesker are racists. While they are evil people with an evil ideology, they are explicitly stated not to discriminate based on people's ethnicity. Wesker might have been designed as white and blond as a visual parallel out of universe, but the reason he sees himself as superior is because he's a genius with superpowers--not because he's white and blond.
Supernatural:
not in-show content, but there were allegations of homophobia leveled against jensen ackles when he responded to an inappropriate question regarding the destiel ship at a convention panel with a dismissive remark. this happened in like, 2015? 2016? regardless, he wasn't a fan of the ship due to fan behavior. That Does Not A Homophobe Make. it even lead to ppl making jokes about the destiel confession at the end of the final season, that dean's blank face was the result of jensen ""trying to keep the homophobia in"" when he later shared that the scene was cut up and his actual reactions were not kept in post.

Round 1 Poll 85: Not Always Like That
Persona 5:
That the protagonist is enthusiastic about committing crimes. True, the protagonist is silent and up for interpretation. But what's one of the first things said about the protagonist? "" [Protagonist] was wrongly convicted for a crime after preventing a woman getting assaulted by a powerful politician."" He did not commit a crime because it's fun or something. It's because of his own set of justice and morals, he actually did not even commit a crime at all. It was the corrupt justice system that had wrongly accused him.
DC submission:
Jason Todd being an agressive, impulsive moron, he was a much less angry Robin than Dick (he said being Robin "Gave him Magic") Dick Grayson is the angriest bitch in the family and Jason is a literature nerd, he's no moron.
Jason Todd is the violent Robin is wrong. Jason was very sweet as a child, straight A's in school. He became violent following his death.

PROPAGANDA
2B Propaganda
"constant victim of oversexualization and in pretty much all of the n:a ai ""art"" i've seen like i get she's pretty but this is too much. say what you will but she would Not fucking look like that sometimes..."
Elizabeth Afton Propaganda
"Her father made a literal *killer robot made to slaughter children* and told her it was a gift for her, only to withhold it without explanation. Being a small child, she was excited and went to see it anyway, which caused the robot to activate and kill the unsuspecting girl. Elizabeth shows very clearly that everything she does is to win the approval of her father, who is implied to have emotionally abused her, and through the graphic novels is shown to *beat* her. Despite this, the (mostly male) fans believe that Elizabeth is a spoiled brat who got what she had coming to her for going against her father's wishes and treat her as a wholeheartedly evil person and an irredeemable, selfish villain. Again, she was a little girl."

Round 1 Poll 84: Stop saying this
Ghost Stories:
ghost stories was not a flop in Japan! it did great actually! You have been lied to by ADV and the hack who wrote the infamous dub for years and are sleeping on a quality kid's horror anime in favor of a racist and offensive badly written dub! Thanks!
Madoka Magica:
please, for the love of Madoka, STOP calling it a fucking deconstruction of the magical girl genre!!!

Round 1 Poll 82: Crimes
The Band Ghost:
ok here for pet peeve number two: the electric boogaloo. i hate hate hate when people take the bands music as literal. the band is, at the end of the day, a criticism and parody of both the catholic church + how people view satanism. for example there's a song called prime mover that talks about ""maternal slaves"" and the fandom just took that as canon and decided to make the papas some fucking creeps that prey on women to continue their lineage. when theres nothing in the actual lore itself to suggest that.
Scum Villain's Self-Saving System:
To be fair, I think it's not SVSSS' own fandom spreading this, but rather ppl from adjacent fandoms who think it doesn't deserve its (perceived) popularity, but anyway. No, Luo Binghe did NOT fuck the corpse. It is confirmed on two separate occasions that this was NOT what was happening.
that binghe raped shen qingqiu

Three way Poll in Round 2 I guess
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Round 1 Poll 76: One/Two-Dimensional
God of War submission:
People say Kratos is one dimensional in the early games; really they just haven’t played them, because he as a character and the story still has a lot of depth
Gravity Falls submission:
Bill Cipher supposedly being a two-dimensional, irredeemable villain. The finale literally hints to some backstory on top of Journal 3 and the AMA filling in more of that which boils down to a lot of interesting implications about his old home dimension and his motivations. On top of that, he did reference a creature called the Axolotl in the finale and one of the books features this being, which straight up tells us that he has regrets, is unhappy and puts on a facade, and gets a second chance at life to make up for his misdeeds.

Round 1 Poll 81: Backstory
Pokemon submission:
For the character Oleana, there's a popular backstory for her that she grew up in poverty and her only companion was her Trubbish (a pokémon that looks like a garbage bag). It explains why she has a team of four elegant/beautiful pokémon, and then her ace is Garbador (garbage bag but larger), and I think it's a really nice backstory! But... it's not canon. Somebody put it on Bulbapedia for a bit without any citations, so people took it as fact, but there's nothing in the game text to confirm it. I see people mention it all the time and I love it as a headcanon, but it's not canon, I'm afraid :(
Resident Evil submission:
Karl Heisenberg was kidnapped by Mother Miranda as a child. This is not true, it is never said by him or anyone else.

Round 1 Poll 80: Void
Kirby submissions:
The whole Kirby is/isn't void debate the only info in favor is inferring based on cutscenes and badly translated pause screens, and the only info against is one line in an interview that was originally in japanese. But people claim that one or the other is the *absolute* truth
Kirby being made of/a reincarnation of Void. This is a very common misconception that tends to be spread around for shock value since Void is basically an eldritch god. There isn't actually anything in canon that explicitly confirms this, and it has been confirmed in an interview that the reason why Void's face resembles Kirby during its boss battle is because its mimicking him and not because of any relation.
Hermitcraft submission:
Evil Xisuma was not sent to the void (as in the Minecraft void). Never in the video where he was banned did Xisuma say ""yah I sent him to the void lol"". He was just banned, plain and simple

Round 1 Poll 79: Family
Dream SMP submissions:
(sorry btw) SBI family dynamic isn't canon
SBI FAMILY DYNAMIC IS NOT CANON!!!! I'm pretty sure people don't really believe in this anymore since dsmp is over and when it was going it was de-canonized multiple times by the CCs but even after it was decanonized I STILL sometimes saw people act as if Phil was canonically Tommy's dad or something. HE'S FUCKING NOT. THE ONLY MEMBERS OF SBI WHO WERE RELATED WERE PHIL AND WIL. It drives me up the fucking wall because interpreting it as canon just makes the story so much worse because it recontextualizes characters' actions in a way they were never meant to be taken
SBI were canonically related
Sonic submission:
“Shadow is Silver’s father” While a cool AU, not canon as I’ve seen some people (mostly on other websites) say.

Hello and welcome to the Puppet Bracket, the place for fictional puppets, muppets and dolls!
They can be kid friendly, possessed or anything else really, the only catch is they have to be a fictional character from a movie, video game or book etc. Characters portrayed by muppets/puppets are welcome to.
Human possession doesn't count though, sorry

The end of Avengers legitimately did found family-bait us. Here's a post with the screencaps: https://www.tumblr.com/princess-of-purple-prose/657008396477890560/dingdongyouarewrong-mycroftrh?source=share
I am actually curious if anyone legitimately thinks this is canon to the movies, since I just generally saw people having fun in fanfics and other fanworks. Guess there could be some confusion since there's some other Avengers media where they do live together.
Found Family baiting sounds like such a weird thing. It's baffling that it exists

ok lesbophobe. no matter who wins, lesbophobes, the lot of you.
As we've discovered with other submissions, I can't control what people submit to me. It would include topics like these. Also, if the aroace erasure is actually there, I think it's fair to be discussed.
I think the 'subtext' for GLaDOS is definitely there, especially with the cut content

Round 1 Poll 78: Relationship stuff
The Addams Family submission:
The idea that Gomez is ""Connecticut Clark"", ""just Ken"", or ""knows Morticia is out of his league"", or that his only purpose is to be Perfect Husband And Father to the point of talking about him as if he's not his own person. The Connecticut Clark meme is meant to refer to a character with no supernatural traits, no interesting backstory, and nothing special or unusual about him, married to a cool supernatural wife. I do not think ""nothing unusual about him"" applies to a master swordsman (at least in the films, the competence of other versions admittedly varies) who in the 60s show built a robot and a supercomputer in his home, is unharmed by leaping out of a plane without a parachute, has 6 toes on one foot and might have a tail, and regularly eats poison and is unaffected by it. He is an Addams. His mother is a witch. He is descended from a long line of pirates and outlaws. He IS a goofy dork but he is not JUST some random goofy dork. ""Just Ken"" similarly tends to refer to a character who doesn't do much or have many skills and is very much secondary to his wife or girlfriend... Gomez is not a supporting character in a story about Morticia, he is an equally major character to her in most versions of the series, and fights and defeats the villains of a story more than once. Surely if we're going to see them as couple goals, part of what makes their relationship so healthy IS that they are both their own people with their own interests, friends, and lives? A relationship where one is just the other's sidekick doesn't sound like goals to me. He also doesn't really seem to think of Morticia as out of his league--he adores her, obviously, but his high opinion of her is *not* usually accompanied by a low opinion of himself. He's actually pretty confident, and even a bit vain about his looks (even the less conventionally attractive versions), and has said at least once that he considers *her* fortunate to be married to *him*, as well as obviously considering himself lucky to be married to her. It's frustrating as a fan of his character when lots of people SAY they love him, but only really seem to love how much he loves Morticia, forget about the things he's canonically good at in favour of ""all he knows how to do is love his wife"", aren't interested in exploring his relationships with anyone other than Morticia and maybe Wednesday (I'm talking the rest of his family, but also his friends, and in most versions he did also have other romantic relationships before meeting Morticia), and don't really want to discuss him as a person (especially when it comes to...his actual flaws as a person that aren't just ""he's dumb, but it doesn't matter because he's so sweet"", or his canon mental health issues, or piecing together his backstory from the bits of info we get about it, or...really anything about what might actually be going on in his head rather than him just being a kind of satellite characters). Especially when people will analyse Morticia in such detail and with the Netflix show in particular are now doing the same for Wednesday.
Gravity Falls submission:
ford hating/not caring about/overlooking/belittling/underestimating mabel. this one goes out to you "Return to the Bunker"

Round 1 Poll 77: Lesbian
Worm/Parahumans submission:
Lisa Wilbourn being a lesbian, not aroace. She says in Worm that she's not interested in relationships, and by the time of Ward she realizes that she was just using her power as an excuse to not wonder why she didn't feel the feelings everyone said she was supposed to feel. (Not her exact wording, maybe I'm projecting a little, but she clarified that it wasn't her power. It was as close to a canon ""I'm aroace"" statement as one can make without using the words aromantic or asexual.) I've pretty much given up on stopping people from shipping Lisa, even though the characters people ship her with all have better wlw ships, but can you at least stop pretending there's any canon support for shipping the aroace queen of Brockton Bay?
Portal submission:
The idea that Chell is both mute and that she’s lesbian for GLaDOS like, okay, fine, Chell is meant to be a proxy for the player to project themselves onto, that’s fair, but the fans keep treating it like it’s canon when it’s not. Just look at what the developers have to say: Interviewer: ”If all the test subjects were prisoners, does that make Chell a murderer? Is that why she’s so good at it?” Erik Wolpaw: “No, she’s just super focused. I always thought of her as pissed all the time, that’s why she never says anything. For Gordon, there’s no real reason why he doesn’t say anything, but Chell doesn’t like these robots and doesn’t even want to dignify their shenanigans with a response. She’s just storming through this place PISSED.” - Portal 2 Official Guidebook Erik Wolpaw: “My personal idea is that Chell can talk, but she’s just kind of pissed the whole time. She just doesn’t like robots. She doesn’t want to give them the satisfaction of ever responding to their nonsense.” (https://archive.is/20130104035703/http://arts.nationalpost.com/2011/04/19/qa-with-portal-2-writers-erik-wolpaw-and-jay-pinkerton/#selection-2297.0-2361.55) Erik Wolpaw: “I always had this feeling of Chell is a character who’s just pissed off the entire time and having to do this, and just not giving them the pleasure of saying anything. She probably can talk.” (https://web.archive.org/web/20110717195941/http://www.vg247.com/2011/03/14/wolpaw-players-dont-care-about-portals-chell/) The Escapist: ""Wolpaw doesn't feel that people are actually invested in Chell as a character, and instead relate to the game world through her shell as themselves. Wolpaw admits that Chell can definitely talk, but added: ""She just chooses not to, what with the robots all being dicks. Why give them the satisfaction?"" (https://web.archive.org/web/20110511090046/http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/109845-Valve-Portals-Chell-is-Silent-Because-Its-Funnier)
