I gave the Spider Family a big sister so Reader-Chan had to fight someone. Hope you all are okay with that.
Now on with the story.
Chapter 1: The Fox Hashira
When you and your two Hashira colleagues arrived on Mt. Natagumo you found slaughter Demon Slayers everywhere.
After smelling this much blood, the familiar hunger in you came up. You gulped down the excessive saliva, ignoring your demonic instincts.
You weren’t anymore the monster Kitsune. The one who slaughters whole villages for human flesh.
For a good 50 years now, you could survive only on blood from volunteers.
Didn’t stop Tomioka to give you a worried glance, while Shinobu took your hand.
“All good?”, she whispered. “I have a blood bag with me in any case.”
 You squeezed her hand.
“I would appreciate it.”
You didn’t want to risk anything. Better have a full belly to be on the safer side.
Wordless Shinobu handed you the blood bag and you started right away to drink it.
Ah, B negative.
Tasty.
Tactful both Tomioka and Shinobu let you drink in peace, not commenting on it, while they talked with each other. Well, Shinobu talked and Tomioka just stared at the dead bodies.
“Were you acquainted with any of them?”, the female Hashira wondered. “There don’t seem to be any survivors around here. We were advised that several rookie Mizunoto had joined the battle, but they might be dead by now, don’t you think?”
“As soon as Inari-San is done, we go.”, answered her Tomioka simply.
You gulped down the last bit of blood and nodded.
“Let’s go.”
You three started to run through the forest.
“Isn’t the moon lovely?”, asked Shinobu.
She and her small talk.
You humored her. “Indeed.”
You could see how she smiled at you.
“Since we’ve been given this joint mission, let’s try to get along.”, she directed her next words to Tomioka.
You and her got along without problems.
Since you joined the Demon Slayer Corps you had been friends with the family Kocho. You remember holding Shinobu as a little baby in your arms, while…while you gave Kanae a piggyback ride.
No matter how many deaths you witnessed, it always hurt to lose people.
And in your long life, you had lost a lot of beloved people.
Tomioka answered Shinobu with a simple: “I’m only here to slay some demons.”
“How callous of you!”, she tutted then turned to you two. “All right, then, let’s split up here. I shall proceed from the west.”
“I will take the north.”, you offered.
The only male agreed and you all were off to your directions.
Soon you found yourself in a clearing, which made you wrinkle your nose in disgust.
These were once human bodies, but they were melted like ice cream in the hot summer sun.
Thankful you weren’t that distracted by the rotten smell and scene before you because you clearly heard how someone tried to spit on you.
No kidding.
In an elegant flick-flack, you jumped to safety, drawing your Katana.
“Ara, ara, little human, stay still, it won’t hurt much.”, promised a female voice.
It was a young woman with white hair in an elegant bun. She wore a pretty white kimono with some red details. Her face was painted with red circles.
A lower demon.
Spider.
You smelled it in the air around her.
One of your Blood Demon Arts was transformation, like the Kitsune from folklore. Besides the whisker marks on your cheek, you appeared to anyone completely human. Nothing gave away your demonic existence.
Only a high-ranking Upper Moon and Muzan self could see through your illusion.
“Mmh, you are a cute one.”, cooed the Spider-Demon. “Sadly I have to kill you.”
Her cheeks became round and she spits at you a fountain that could only be poison.
You were more than ready for her.
Total concentration! Fox-Breathing! Third Form! Up and About!
It seemed like you vanished on the spot, only to appear over her, on your side two copies of yourself. The first copy slashed her from left to right, the second from right to left and you slashed her neck.
The demon was dead before she realized what happened.
Calmy you sheeted your Katana, watching how she dissolved in million pieces.
This wasn’t the Lower Moon of this mountain.
So you kept on searching.
On your search, you found Demon Slayer comrades imprisoned in spider webs and even in giant balls of spider threads. You cut through all and saved their lives.
You order the freed prisoners to wait for the Kakushi and kept searching for the Lower Moon.
That’s when you heard one of the kasugai crows calling loudly: “Tanjiro and the demon Nezuko are to be taken back to headquarters alive!”
Shocked you stopped and stared at the crow flying over your head.
Did you hear right?!
“Tanjiro, dressed in a checkered haori, with a scar on his forehead! Nezuko, a female demon with a bamboo muzzle! Bring them back! Bring them back!”
You did!
What could this all mean?!
You didn’t think and let your instinct wash over you.
In one second you were running on two human legs in the next you took the form of a fox as big as a horse, racing through the forest to find this demon named Nezuko.
Was she like you?
Why else would they keep a demon alive?
You run as fast as you could, soon reaching a familiar girl with a side ponytail and a butterfly clip in her hair.
You transformed back into your human form, reaching her.
“Kanao-Chan.”, you called and she turned to you. You could now see over what she had been crouching.
It looked like a little pretty girl with a bamboo muzzle.
That must be Nezuko, the description of her and what you smelled told you all.
Kanao made a deep bow.
“Inari-Sama.”
You patted her head and once again asked her to drop this. You know Kanao since she was a little girl, she didn’t need to bow before you and give you the Sama title.
You told Kanao you would take over now and she should help with the Kakushi.
Of course, she did as she was told, so you could crouch down to Nezuko’s level.
She had wonderful pink eyes, looking at you in curiosity. Her little nose moved, she smelled the air, then gave you a surprised look.
No…she couldn’t tell?
Could she?
“Do you know…I’m like you?”, you asked her quietly.
Nezuko gave you a tiny nod, making cute noises.
Gosh, she was adorable.
“Come. Can I pick you up and then let’s find your brother.”, you cooed at her sweetly.
Like a toddler, she raised her arms and you place her on your hip.
Strange.
She felt warm.
Like a sunray.
That was untypical for a demon.
Nezuko was really like you it seemed.
Together you picked up a wooden box in which, Nezuko crawled in after the sun began to rise.
So she still wasn’t immune to sunlight.
You wonder for how long she had been a demon.
“Inari-Sama, Inari-Sama!”, voices called for you.
It was two Kakushi, one had a boy with a scar and checkered haori over his shoulder.
“This must be the brother of my little demon friend in the box.”, you mussed.
The boy had a soft but handsome face. You really liked his hair color. Dark red was something unique.
Also, you felt warm coming from him. Warm like the sun.
He was as strange as his sister.
Human didn’t feel so warm to you, but the presence of the boy seemed to nearly burn you.
Curious, simply curious.
Tumblr media
It was now fully morning and you stand beside Mitsuri and the other Hashira around the sleeping Tanjiro in the Demon Slayer Headquarters.
Goto from the Kabushi tried to wake him up. Not gently mind you. He seemed one step away from kicking the young boys behind.
Finally, he woke up, staring in utter confusion at you all.
“Bummer. I heard he was a Demon Slayer with a demon in tow, so I was looking forward to seeing someone more flamboyant…”, trailed off Tengen. “But that’s one drab-looking dude, huh?”
“Yes! And now, we’ll put this boy on trial! I see!”, said Rengoku.
Mitsuri was holding into one of your arms. You swore you could hear her think how beautiful this all was with Tanjiro protecting his demon sister.
Still confused Tanjiro tried to sit up, asking who you guys were, only for Goto to push him back down again.
“Don’t open your mouth just yet, you moron! Just who do you think is standing before you?!”, scolded the Kakushi. “You’re in the presence of the Hashiras!”
You could clearly see how Tanjiro had no idea what a Hashira was. He must be for a short time a Demon Slayer.
Shinobu stepped forward to give the lost boy at least some answers: “This is the Demon Slayers’ headquarters. And you’re about to be put on trial… Kamado Tanjiro-Kun.”
You formally tasted his desperation in the air.
“Before we start the trial, why don’t you explain the crime you’ve comm –“
“There’s no need for a trial!”, interrupted Rengoku Shinobu. “Protecting a demon is a clear violation of the code! We’re within our rights to deal with him on our own! We’re going to behead him along with the demon!”
“In that case, I’ll be glad to decapitate him flamboyantly. I’ll show you the most flamboyant blood spray you’ll ever see. I’m talking max flamboyance.”, boosted Tengen himself up.
Mitsuri gripped harder your arm, whispering: “Inari-Chan, can’t you do something? For you was made an exception, why not for this boy and his sister too?”
“I’m thinking…”, you whisper back.
The truth was you weren’t sure if you could pull Rank on anybody before they turned Tanjiro and his sister into sliced pieces of meat.
Yes, you were the oldest.
Yes, you were the strongest.
But you weren’t Oyakata-Sama. He called the shots.
While you were having your little crisis Himejima pitied Tanjiro, Tokitou was lost in his own thoughts and Tanjiro self seemed to look for Nezuko, which in turn made Goto angry, since the boy didn’t give you all the respect you earned.
Himejima, Rengoku, and Uzui were ready to just kill Tanjiro there and now.
Okay, you needed to say something.
You clapped your hands loudly so that all turned to you.
“We are not going to kill the boy and his sister.”, you told them. “Yes, technically he broke the rules, but it wouldn’t be the first time the Demon Slayer Corps made an exception. We shall wait for Oyakata-Sama’s decision. So if one of you tries to harm them, I gonna pull Rank on all of you and beat your asses until next week understood?!”
Your Hashira colleagues mumbled all together a yes senpai, while Tanjiro looked at you in aww.
You did your best not to turn red under his pretty red eyes. Red eyes normally meant evil, yet his red was so pretty and soft that you wanted to dive in.
You stopped your train of thoughts alone. No, more than friendship with humans would break your heart. You can’t forget that.
That’s when Tanjiro called where Nezuko was and the names of his friends.
But the only one responding to him was Iguro, chilling like always on the tree with his snake Kaburamaru: “Forget that. What will we do with Tomioka?”
Automatically you all turned to the Water Pillar, who was standing alone a few meters away from you.
“Seeing him there without any restraints is giving me a headache. Based on what Kochou told us, Tomioka is just as guilty of breaking Corps rules.”, reminded Iguro. “How will we deal with him? How should we make him take responsibility? What kind of lesson should we teach him? Don’t you have anything to say, Tomioka?”
Tomioka, of course, said nothing. Shinobu meant that this wasn’t important right now, since he did come back here without the need to use force and she was more interested why Tanjiro had a demon with him, even if it’s against the rules.
The young boy tried to explain, yet thanks to his wounds only coughs came out of his mouth. You smelled a bit of blood in the air.
Tanjiro needs healing, not an interrogation, yet you couldn’t do anything right now.
At least Shinobu gave him some water with painkillers in it. After he took a good sip, Tanjiro told you how his whole family had been slaughtered by a demon, leaving only him and his transformed sister behind. He swore up and down that she never hurt and never would hurt a human.
You formally felt how all Hashira’s looked at you. You know, they wanted you to talk with him.
If Nezuko was any bit like you, you were the best to talk to Tanjiro.
“She never tasted human flesh?”, you asked. “Never? Not even blood?”
“No! She uses sleep to regain her energy!”
“Absurd.”, Obonai shook his head. “Even Inari-Senpai needs to drink blood and she is over two centuries old! If she’s family, no wonder you’re defending her. I can’t trust a single word you’re saying. I, for one, don’t believe you.”
Tanjiro blinked confused, while you all tried not to facepalm.
Awesome Obonai!
Just tell a not Hashira straight away that a demon is in the Ranks of the Hashira.
The snake Hashira realized that he probably thought out aloud and seemed to blush under his bandages.
“Forgive me…”, he called ashamed of himself over to you.
You waved your hand.
What was done was done.
Now you heard Tanjiro gasp for air.
“You…you are a demon? But you smell nothing like one!”
“Are you implying I smell bad?”, you shoot back angrily, which made nearly everyone laugh, and Tanjiro stutters.
“N-No! Y-You smell nice, human!”
“Nice safe, boy.”, cackled Tengen and you hit him with your elbow in his stomach.
The sound Hashira nearly toppled over.
“Tengen-Kun, shut it or I’m telling on your wives.”, you said with a fake sweet smile.
He gave you a thumbs up. Good, he still knew where his place was.
You decide to kneel with Shinobu before Tanjiro.
“Kamado Tanjiro.”, you began. “I’m since two centuries a part of the Demon Slayer Corps and lived before that a century as a "normal" demon. For 50 years I haven’t eaten human flesh and I’m happy with blood. Yet you claim your sister never ever had either. How long has she been a demon?”
“T-Two years, ma’am.”
“Do you see the problem here, my colleagues have with your narrative? I’m a good demon too, I fight against my own kind for humanity, yet it took me decades to be there where I am now and your sister, so young, already managed?”
“I know it sounds crazy, but it’s true! Please if you really are a demon, you must have smelled something different on Nezuko.”
Before you could answer you heard Shinazugawa’s voice: “Well, well, I see you have some fun brewing here. Is that the moron Slayer who has a demon with him? What the hell are you trying to pull here?”
Shinobu and you stood up and face your follow Hashira.
“What are you doing with Nezuko’s box?”, you demanded to know.
“Shinazugawa, please don’t act out of line.”, added Shinobu.
Of course, he didn’t listen and mocked Tanjiro.
“What did you say about that demon, kid? That she can fight as a Demon Slayer to protect humans? She is not Inari-Senpai with over 100 years of experience and even our senpai still needs blood to survive. Do you know what we call that? A total delusion, you moron!”
Then he gets his katana out and steps Nezuko through the box! You feel how your canines grow and a growl comes out of your mouth. Shinobu grips you by the shoulders so you don’t tackle Shinazugawa to the ground.
You were biased, you know that.
You already liked Nezuko, you felt a connection to her. There weren’t many good demons like you and her. Seeing her getting hurt by one of your Hashira colleagues made the demon in you come out.
Luckily for you, Tanjiro freacking headbutted Shinazugawa and took the box from him. It showed how much he really loved his sister. He didn’t care who hurt her, he would make them pay twice for it.
You stopped growling and your canines shrunk back.
For now, you were calm again.
You hoped Oyakata-Sama would soon arrive, this meeting was a powder kettle ready to explode!

Chapter 3: Foxes and Butterflies
One good thing about living as long as you did, was that you collected a lot of money in your time as Demon Slayer.
80 years ago you bought this beautiful Mansion with a big garden. It was located in the same neighborhood as the Butterfly Mansion.
Humming a little melody under your breath you worked in your grand and beautiful garden. Butterflies and bees fly around, and birds chirping their songs.
It was an oasis of serenity.
You put the sunflowers in the basket beside you and then stood up. Cracking you spin, letting out a relaxed breath.
You were grateful for any day in the sun you could spend. Since you got immunity from it your cursed existence as a demon was more tolerable.
You could pretend more that you were human. Forgotten for a while all the gruesome things you have done in your long life.
Yet you could never truly forget.
The hunger for flesh and blood in you was strong.
You put a hand on your stomach and picked up your basket full of sunflowers.
Time to go over to the Butterfly Mansion and get your weekly blood supply from Shinobu.
Still humming you enter your mansion, going to your bedroom. You needed to change your dirty work kimono into something more presentable.
You didn’t know why…but you had the urge to look extra pretty today.
It was totally not because you could meet Tanjiro in the Butterfly Mansion and wanted to make a good impression on him.
No.
Perish that thought.
Anyway, you took a bath, styled your hair into an elaborate bun with a pretty cherry blossom hairclip, and put your white kimono with cherry blossoms and red Obi on.
When you also sprayed some perfume on yourself, you had to admit you were going beyond, what one did, when one visited a friend.
You looked ready for a date.
You made a grimace in the mirror.
Okay…maybe you wanted to impress Tanjiro. The boy hadn’t left your thoughts or more his eyes, these pretty red orbs, haunted you any waking hour.
This was not good.
You couldn’t start something with a human.
Casual flings were more your style, but this somehow, strangely felt more powerful.
You shook your head and took your basket of sunflowers.
Enough.
You just wanted to look pretty.
Nothing more.
And if Tanjiro blushed seeing you and got shy, you would eat it up but do nothing about it.
With that in mind, you made your way to Butterfly Mansion. You knocked and after a few seconds, Shinubo herself opened the door.
“Inari-Chan, good afternoon!”
“Good afternoon, Shinobu-Chan! May I enter?”
“Of course, of course, here for your blood supply.”
You nodded.
Shinobu smiled and lead you to her Examination Room/Office. There she gave you in another basket your blood bags, while you handed her one of your sunflowers.
This made your friend happy and she promised to find a vase as soon as possible.
You made a bit of small talk till Shinobu rightfully pointed out: “Ara, Ara, Inari-Chan, you look ready to go on a date who is the lucky man? Or woman?”
“I just felt like dressing up.”, you mumbled fighting your blush. “How are the Kamado Siblings?”
You didn’t like the knowing glint in the Insect Hashira’s eyes.
“Oh Tanjiro already started rehabilitation training and Nezuko sleeps most times of the day. Their friends Agatsuma Zenitsu and Hashibira Inosuke are healing as well and I’m sure Inosuke can join soon Tanjiro.”
“Oh, that’s good. Do you mind, if I look after Nezuko for a second and maybe greet the girls?”
Of course, this was okay and Shinobu lead you to Nezuko’s room before she return to her office with a cheeky wink in your direction. You stuck out your tongue at her.
Little brat!
You knocked at the door, calling out to Nezuko that you would be coming in. The room was dark, but you could see clearly.
Night Vision was only one of the perks of being practically half-fox.
Nezuko Box stand in the middle of the room, slowly it opened and the younger demon picked out her head, making a cute sound.
“Hello Nezuko-Chan.”, you cooed, stepping closer to her. “It’s me, Inari. I wanted to see how you were doing.”
She was now fully out of the box. Cute, she was as tall as a child and made grappy hands in your direction.
You had more of a lifetime experience with babies, toddlers, and children to know what she wanted.
So you picked her up and twirled her around.
Her pretty laugh could warm even the coldest heart, you were sure.
“All good with you baby girl?”
Nezuko made an agreeing sound, hugging your neck.
“The girls treat you nice?”
You stopped spinning and sat down with her on the bed. She nodded cutely.
“Ah, that’s good. Your brother is okay too?”
She made an adorable coo noise in agreement.
Aww, you could just eat her up. Precious baby girl.
You kissed her forehead, which made her giggle. Then you hugged her closer to yourself and swayed back and forth.
Nezuko cooed again, snuggling closer to you and seeming to enjoy greatly the affection you gave her.
You started to tell her random things, while she answered back in coo or giggles.
You don’t know how much time passed, just sitting with her, telling her nothing and all, but you found yourself laying with her on the bed, stroking her hair. Nezuko was nodding off and with a yawn, you decide to take a quick nap as well.
It was comforting to be in her presence.
The sun warmed your back as you climbed up the mountain. Under your snowboots, the snow made a satisfied crunching noise.
Your love told you, that he would come to visit you in the village, yet it burned terribly been away from him.
You couldn’t wait till you finally would be married.
You reached the small hut, his family called their home, greeting warmly your future in-laws, as his mother told you, he was off chopping firewood.
You thanked her, walking up to your beloved.
His pretty dark red hair shone in the sunlight.
Been cheeky, you put your hands on his eyes and asked who it was.
You heard him laugh, pretending to think, till he said your name.
For this, you gave him a kiss on the cheek.
He turned around and you were lost in his otherwordly red eyes.
He smiled that soft smile that only was reserved for you, hugging you to himself.
A happy sign left you.
You could stay forever like this…
“Inari-Sama?”
Someone called you.
Sleepy you opened your eyes, yawing loudly.
Huh, what a strange dream you had. You wonder what that meant.
“Inari-Sama, is anything all right with you?”
Finally, you were awake enough to understand what was going on.
You were in Nezuko’s room in the Butterfly Mansion. The younger demon gripping your kimono, still asleep beside you in the bed and Tanjiro was standing beside it.
…Tanjiro?!
You couldn’t help but blush, careful to not disturb Nezuko, you sat up to greet him.
“Oh hello Tanjiro-Kun, you are finished with your rehabilitation training that is good.”
“Yes, I wanted to see after Nezuko. I’m surprised but happy to see you Inari-Sama.”, he told you shyly. Gosh, he was adorable! “I couldn’t thank you for how you stood up for us before the other Hashira and that you protected Nezuko. Thank you.”
He bowed, and you wave it away, saying it was nothing and to please drop the Sama. You were fine with Inari.
The smile Tanjiro gave you should be illegal.
To not turn into a puddle of goo under his feet, you stroked Nezuko’s beautiful hair. The younger demon cooed in her sleep.
“It makes me happy, seeing Nezuko like this. She likes you very much Inari-San.”, told you Tanjiro, while he stroked his sister’s cheek.
“I like her very much too…it’s nice to have met another good demon like me. You can imagine my existence is really lonely.”, you admitted, fixing your bun.
So much to look ready for a date. Your hair was a catastrophe.
Tanjiro gave you such a heartful look, that you swore your heart stood still for a second. It was like he understood you.
“I’m sorry, Inari-San, but I’m also happy that you are here. I think it does Nezuko good having around another good demon.”
“Mmh, yeah.”
You looked at each other shyly with blushing cheeks.
Suddenly Nezuko sat up and would have hit your chin if you didn’t dodge.
“Oh, you are awake Nezuko!”, said Tanjiro happy.
His sister made now grappy hands at him and he took her in his arms.
Your heart was a pool of goo, seeing the two siblings interact with each other.
The older brother told his sister about his day, while she made cute noise in understanding.
You wished you had a camera to immortalize this sweet moment forever.
Sadly it was probably time to go for you. You still wanted to check on the girls.
So you stand up, fixing your kimono.
“I will leave you now.”, you told the Kamado siblings. Both looked devasted. “I still haven’t checked up on Kanao, Aoi, and the little girls. I didn’t mean to fall asleep with Nezuko.”
“Oh, if you must…It was nice seeing you Inari-San.”
Nezuko made something like a wail, reaching her hands out to you. You took her from Tanjiro’s arms, hugging her and kissing her chubby cheeks.
“Don’t worry, Kit, I will visit soon. Be a good sister for your brother.”
The younger demon cooed in agreement, as you put her down on the floor.
You took your basket and gave her a sunflower.
“This is for you.”
She made a happy sound, hugging the flower to herself.
“You are really kind, Inari-San.”
You gave Tanjiro a tiny smile, giving him also a sunflower. He blushed crimson red, staring at it in confusion and then at you.
“A sweet boy like you deserves a flower also.”
Where you flirting?
Probably.
Before you made more of a fool out of yourself you said your goodbye to the Kamado siblings and searched for Kanao, Aoi, and the girls.
Only Nezuko saw how her brother was red like a tomato, touching the sunflower like a precious thing, with a lovestruck smile on his face.
Tumblr media
You were back home drinking a blood bag, while you read a book.
You should be sleeping, but the nap you took with Nezuko, had left you wide awake.
Not that you slept a lot.
You slept because you could, not because you needed it.
Your record was five hours per day.
Slurping the blood down, you wonder about the strange dream you had.
You never really dreamed.
And when you did it was a chaotic mess with no sense, yet this dream had been so clear, like a memory.
But you didn’t understand it for the life of you.
The boy you dreamed about, who had looked so much like Tanjiro, yet didn’t at the same time, was a mystery.
You never had seen him in your life.
Or at least you don’t remember it.
It was frustrating to have forgotten so much about your human life! Not for the first time you cursed out the Demon King.
One day, you would make him pay for all he did to you and your family.
Someday soon, hopefully.
You didn’t know if you could make it another century with Muzan still free to do as he pleased.
But maybe with Tanjiro and Nezuko on your side, it was finally time to end him.
Who knows?
You hoped with all your heart that this way you were going….you wouldn’t lose any more beloved people.
Yet you know deep down that it would be impossible. Some people would probably die if they faced Muzan.
You put your book on the night table and then began to pray.
“Goddess Inari, please help and guide us. Protect us in this war that will soon happen. Take my life for the life of my beloved people. Better me than them.”

Chapter 2: Good or Bad?
Your prayers were been answered.
Two of the Master’s daughters, you think it’s Nichika and Hinaki, announce the arrival of Oyakata-Sama.
With the help of his daughters, he was led to the edge of the veranda, while he greeted you all calmly and welcoming, being glad that you all were fine.
All Hashira’s got in line and kneeled before him.
You saw how Shinazugawa formally smashed poor Tanjiro’s face into the dirt so that he kneeled also.
You suppressed a growl.
The boy didn’t deserve this treatment.
“I am pleased to see you in good health as well, Master.”, greeted the white-haired Hashira. “I fervently pray for your continued good fortune.”
“Thank you, Sanemi.”
“If I may, Master… Before we start the Hashira Meeting, would you mind enlightening us about this swordsman, Tanjiro Kamado, accompanied by a demon?”
The master gave you all an apologetic smile. “Right. I apologize for startling you all. But first, before I tell you my decision on this matter…Inari-San, can you please tell us all your story?”
Not only you blinked surprised, but your Hashira colleagues and Tanjiro let out also surprised sounds.
“I think we all need a refresher and young Tanjiro can benefit from hearing it.”, added Oyakata-Sama.
You nodded, an order was an order, even if you did wonder why you should tell your story and began: “It happened exactly 340 years ago. I was a normal seventeen year old girl living my life. Then one night, all changed for me. The Demon King killed my family and turned me into a demon. I became like the Kitsune from our folktales, I was powerful, even so young. Kibutsuji called me his crown jewel. His best creation. For a good 100 years, I was under his rule. I…I killed and eat lots of people, sometimes whole villages. I know it was wrong, but my bloodlust was so strong. But slowly over the years, I regained more of my humanity. I got so strong that I finally could flee from Kibutsuji. I roomed this land, only eating humans who were considered monsters. Murders, rapists, pedophiles. I felt I did something good. Then one day I stumbled over an old shrine where the fox goddess Inari was worshipped. The Miko’s who lived there were old and frail. It didn’t stop robbers to enter the sanctuary and trying to steal the treasures. I protected the woman, killing the man. The Miko’s thought of me as a godsend by Inari herself, begging me to stay with them, which a did for a few years. Then one day the Master of the Demon Slayer Corps of that time and two of his strongest Hashira appeared. The Master begged that I joined their cause, which I did since I want to personal put Kibutsuji’s head on a stake. It was not simple to be accepted by the other Hashira’s. I still needed to eat human flesh to survive, the sun still burned me. It took nearly 100 years till I was so respected in the Corps that no one doubted my devotion. I saw a lot of Masters and Hashiras come and go, helped to raise future Demon Slayers, and worked on myself to reign more of my humanity. For a good 50 years now, I only need blood to survive, which comes from volunteers. 10 years ago I managed to finally master the ability to walk in the sun. I came a long way from Kibutsuji pet monster Kitsune to now being the proud Hashira Inari. And that’s my story.”
“I want you all to remember Inari-San story.”, advised Oyakata-Sama. “My Ancestor saw the potential of having a good demon on our side. Like how I see potential in Tanjiro and Nezuko Kamado. Both will be Demon Slayer and I want you to accept my decision.”
It was so silent you could hear a needle drop.
Curious you glanced at the other Hashira’s. A lot seemed to struggle with this decision, but they also KNOW you for ages, some of them you babysit as children, they knew a demon could be good and control themselves.
On the other hand, this was you and Nezuko they didn’t know.
Himejima found first his words: “Even if it’s what you desire, Master, I cannot agree to it. Inari-Sama is a special case, a rarity. She has more than one lifetime of experience and self-control on her side than the young demon girl.”
“I’m flamboyantly opposed as well!”, agreed Tengen. “Inari-Senpai was once one of the twelve Kizuki, she is different from other demons. I can’t see another demon being like her.”
“I shall do whatever it is you wish, Oyakata-Sama!”, said Mitsuri.
At least one was for Nezuko and Tanjiro.
“I’m fine either way… I’m going to forget soon, anyway.”, deadpanned Tokitou.
Another one on their side, maybe? Well, better than nothing.
“I won’t trust them. I won’t trust them.”, hissed Iguro formally. “In the first place, I loathe demons. It was hard enough to come to respect Inari-Senpai and trust her. And she has centuries of self-control under her belt.”
“Although I respect you with all my heart, that’s an incomprehensible notion, Master! I oppose it with everything I’ve got! Inari-Senpai is the only demon we can trust.”, proclaimed Rengoku.
“The Demon Slayer Corps’ mission is to annihilate demons.”, reminded Shinazugawa you all. “I request that you penalize both Kamado and Tomioka!”
Oyakata-Sama turned to you.
“Inari-San, you are on both sides. Tell me…what do you think about Kamado Nezuko.”
You licked your lips, carefully selecting the words you wanted to say.
“Kamado Nezuko…is different. That is clear. She could detect that I’m a demon, even if I was using my Blood Demon Art. She could smell it on me.”
You formally felt how the other Hashira were losing their shit after that revelation. No one besides Muzan or an Upper Moon should have this power.
You continued.
“She didn’t react hostile at me, let me even pick her up and carry her. Nezuko is intelligent, she doesn’t seem to have any bloodlust. I think…she is more like me than we think…no she is even better than me if she really doesn’t need human flesh or blood to survive.”
“Your conclusion, Inari-San?”
“Oyakata-Sama, if this is all right with you…I would take responsibility for Nezuko and Tanjiro Kamado. I’m even ready to put my life on the line. If Nezuko will eat a single human, then you can kill me with her. I won’t fight.”
That made all Hashira really lose their nerves.
“Inari-Chan, no!”, screamed Mitsure, tears in her eyes.
“Senpai, that’s crazy, we can’t lose you!”, shouted Rengoku.
You know he had a soft spot for you. When his father was a Hashira and he was a young boy, you would often play with him and even babysit him. You are pretty sure you even changed some diapers of his.
“Inari-Senpai, that’s dumb and so not like you. You really want to put your life at stake for another demon?”, wonder Obanai.
Before it really could get out of control Oyakata-Sama wanted you all to hear this letter from the former Water Hashira and your old friend Sakonji Urokodaki.
Hinaki read aloud how Tanjiro should be allowed to be accompanied by his demon sister. That Nezuko had resilient mental strength and has not lost her human emotions. Even in a starved state, she never devoured humans, and this has held true more than two years later. Although the situation seems somewhat far-fetched, it is an indisputable fact. Then came the bomb in which your old friend, Tomioka, and even Tanjiro promised to commit ritual suicide, if Nezuko should kill a human.
As you promised a few minutes ago. All right, you said they could kill you too, but it was the same thing in a way.
Your nose tickled with the salty fragrance of tears. Tanjiro was crying silent and thankful tears. He seemed so glad and relieved that at least three people were on his and Nezuko’s side.
He was a good young man, you felt it.
“So what if they commit ritual suicide and Inari-Senpai lets us kill her?”, growled Shinazugawa. “If you want to die, then rot for all I care! It’s no guarantee! Not by a long shot!”
Rengoku wanted to say something, probably agreeing with him, but you calmly turned to Shinazugawa and said ice-cold: “And yet you trust me?”
“W-What?”
“Kamado Nezuko has never devoured human flesh, where I, I eat and killed more than a thousand, and still to this day I need blood. She is better than me, yet you and anybody else can’t wait for to decapitate her and her brother who loves her so dearly and would do anything for her.”, you scolded.
Nearly everyone looked ashmead.
They were based, they knew that.
Was it because they grow up with you as a parental/sisterly figure or you earned their trust.
They weren’t thinking rationally, but with their emotions, and they were in chaos.
Only Tanjiro looked at you like…you were a divine being, coming to Earth to help him and his sister.
You fought off a blush and pointedly didn’t look in his direction. These dark red eyes with heartful tears in them were too much to handle.
“The fact is that Nezuko has refrained from devouring humans for more than two years, and also that there are three people and one demon risking their lives for her.”, sums up Oyakata-Sama. “To reject this notion, those who reject it must offer an even more convincing argument.”
Shinazugawa gave an angry grumble.
“Do you all have the will to do so?”
No one said anything, and that’s when Oyakata-Sama let the next bomb drop: “Also, there’s something I’d like to relay to you, my children. Tanjiro here has met Kibutsuji.”
You Hashiras being shocked was the understatement of the century.
Your chin meets the floor. Tanjiro meet the fucking asshole and lived?
What?!
“No, impossible!”, yelled Tengen. “After Inari-Senpai joined us 200 years ago no one has ever crossed paths with him?!”
“Is the bastard still high and mighty as ever? I hope you didn’t battle him. He probably has a new hidey-hole, did you see it?”, you shoot your questions at him, like bullets from a pistol.
The others shoot their own question at him, like what he looked liked, what his powers were, and so on.
Poor Tanjiro was clearly overwhelmed with you all shouting questions at him so Oyakata-Sama called you all to order.
“Kibutsuji has sent pursuers after Tanjiro. Though his purpose may simply be to silence him, now that Kibutsuji’s given himself away for the first time, I don’t want to let go. I also believe something’s happening to Nezuko that Kibutsuji never saw coming. Not unlikely with what happened with Inari-San. One of his own Upper Moon betraying him must have shocked him, even if it was so long ago. Can you try to understand?”
Boarheaded Shinazugawa refused to understand the Masters reasons. He was so fixed in his mindset that all demons needed to be killed, that he couldn’t see another way. Not that you could blame him, after what he experienced as a child.
Then he actually slices his arm to let the blood drop on Nezuko’s box to coax her out!
Good thing you weren’t hungry or else you would probably start sucking.
Of course, Nezuko comes not out, hello sunlight, which Obanai reminds Sanemi, and the white-haired Hashira jumps into the mansion and then again stabs Nezuko through the box.
That’s when you see red.
One second you look human, the next your whisker marks get deeper, your hair turns orange, fox ears and a tail grow and you know your eyes turn red.
With a growl you jump between Sanemi and Nezuko’s box, holding in an iron grip his Katana.
“That’s enough, Sanemi! As your Senpai I say: Stand down!”, you growl in your demonic voice.
It’s deeper more animalist than your human one.
This all took place in a few seconds, so of course, all are like statues and don’t know what to do.
They know not to cross you when you show your true self. You were a one-woman army, worth a thousand Demon Slayers.
Nonetheless, Sanemi gets his bearing back.
“Senpai, you would face off against one of your comrades for a demon?!”
“She is an innocent being, I won’t let you egg her on. You practically play with fire here!”
“Innocent being?! That’s a demon and I just want to prove to you all how dangerous she really is!”
That’s when you all hear how the box opens. Growling, with saliva running down her muzzle Nezuko stands up from it.
Fast she grips your arm and puts you behind her.
What is she…?
“What is happening?”, ask Oyataka-Sama his daughters.
“The younger demon seems to protect Inari-Sama. She put herself between Inari-Sama and Shinazugawa-Sama.”, responds Hinaki.
So you aren’t imagining things.
“Come on demon attack me.”, taunts her Sanemi. “You didn’t like me yelling at one of your kind and you want my blood. Show everyone your true self.”
It seems like an eternity passes, but Nezuko just turns away from Sanemi and hugs you.
You feel her shaking in your arms, she is fighting against her bloodlust, but she is winning.
“Good girl.”, you coo at her, hugging her back. “You are a good girl.”
Again the Master asks what happened and both his daughter tell him what transpired.
“So now, it’s been proven that Nezuko won’t attack humans, right?”, declares Oyakata-Sama.
Well, no one can argue anymore.
In the end, Tanjiro and Nezuko were now accepted as Demon Slayers and their quest was to defeat the Twelve Kizuki and the Demon King himself.
Tanjiro promised that they would do their best.
Then Shinobu pointed out that he needed medical attention, so the Kakushi arrived to take Tanjiro and Nezuko.
You helped Nezuko back into her box, giving her forehead a kiss and a promise that you would see her soon. She made cute agreeing noises at you.
Never seeing how Tanjiro looked at you, a fox-demon, been so kind and good to his sister, filling his heart with new emotions.
After the Kamado’s Siblings were gone with the Kakushi, the Hashira Meeting could take place.
You switched back into your human form and follow after the other to the meeting room.
Oyakata-Sama with his two daughters by his side sits before you. The room was dark only illuminated with lamps and you all sit in seiza before him.
You talked about how the quality of the Demon Slayer has gone bad, how this era changed so much, and how the Demon King let this chaos happen with his Lower Moon to hide his traces.
The Master let all, besides you, go, with the words that you were the best Demon Slayer since the Feudal Era.
You expected a scolding for acting out of line today, showing your true self, and commanding Sanemi, but the Master just wanted your honest opinion.
You were the oldest, you have seen death and life come and go.
Was the way the Demon Slayer Corps took the right one?
You only said this.
“Oyakata-Sama. I think we found valuable assets in Tanjiro and Nezuko Kamado. These two are something special. They are full…of sunlight. And sunlight is the best against demons.”

The first part of the prolog is written in the third person, then we switch to the second pov.
I wanted to separate so the past of the reader from the present.
Happy reading now.
Prolog: The Tale of the Good Demon
Long ago there lived a young maiden.
She was as beautiful, as she was kind, loved by her family and neighbors.
Some said that she had something godlike in her, that made her this way.
Of course, such shining light attracted the darkness.
The Demon King himself set his eyes on the young maiden.
One day he come into her home, killing anyone but her.
Turning her into a demon with fox-like features, ears, and a tail.
Kitsune he called her from this day and the young maiden was practically forced to obey him.
But even if she had to kill humans, even if she ate them, she searched for a way to escape this cursed existence.
She still was as pure in her heart as she was in her human life. Any death and harm she caused made her feel disgusted and hated by herself.
Years passed and the young maiden now only known as Kitsune became stronger.
So strong, that the power the Demon King had over her, vanished.
Finally, she could break free from his control and run into the night.
Now free, but still a demon, Kitsune didn’t know what to do.
She roomed the lands of Japan in search to give her life a purpose.
It wasn’t until she stumbled upon an old shrine where the fox goddess Inari was prayed to, that she found it.
Kitsune protected the Miko’s that lived there from evil men, who wanted to steal the treasures of the shrine.
She killed any last of them and the Miko’s thought she was a godsend by Inari herself.
They begged her to stay and Kitsune become their protector.
Life had again a meaning, a purpose.
Again years passed and anybody started to call her Inari, the good demon.
The protector of humankind.
This reached even the head of the Demon Slayer corps.
He came to the shrine with two of his strongest Hashiras.
With humility, he begged that Inari should join them. Become a Demon Slayer and help them against the Demon King.
Inari was unsure.
She lived a good life as the shrine’s proctor.
But the Miko’s encouraged her to go with the Demon Slayers.
Often she had talked to them about how she wanted to make the Demon King pay for what he did to her family, to her…this was a chance do to so.
So Inari joined the Demon Slayer Corps and became a Hashira.
To this day it is said that the young woman with whisker marks on her cheeks with an orange haori is the good demon Inari.
But these are of course only rumours.
It’s a story that gets told in Demon Slayer circles because the family Inari always has a woman as Hashira, nothing more.
Or that’s what you want to make all believe…
Trying to remember your human life…was difficult.
Every year that passed in this cursed demonic existence, you forgot more about your family and yourself.
The smell of your mother’s favorite perfume, your father’s loud laugh, grandmother’s swift hands at needlework, grandfather’s voice which sang you to sleep.
Like fog in the sunlight, it slowly vanished.
You signed and looked up at the sun.
After two centuries you finally could walk on sunny days again. It had been an amazing feeling. Like you have got a bit of your humanity back.
That’s when you heard a well know voice and found yourself with an armful of bubbly pink-green-haired Hashira.
“Mitsuri-Chan.”, you greeted her. “Nice to see you again.”
The Love Hashira greeted you back and then formally smashed your face into her bosom.
You tried your hardest not to turn into a tomato.
Technically you were older than her, but mentally and physically you were still seventeen years old. It sucked to be stuck in eternal puberty!
One of the reasons you so wanted to put Muzan’s stupid face on a stake and then spit on it.
“You look so cute today!”, she complimented you. “I like your new uniform.”
You only changed your stockings, since, like Mitsuri, you wore a skirt, but your friend got easily excited.
One of the reasons you found her so cute.
“So what are you doing here Mitsuri-Chan?”
Here been the house of Oyakata-Sama, where your Hashira’s mostly got your missions.
“Where you called by Oyakata-Sama too?”
“No, I just came from a mission. I think Shinobu-Chan and Tomioka-Kun were called here, like you Inari-Chan.”
“Oh joy, Tomioka.”, you deadpanned, which made Mitsuri giggle.
Nothing against the Water Hashira, but being around him made you more depressed than you already are. At least Shinobu would go on his nerves, which was always fun to watch.
Not for the first time you thought about just throwing these two idiots in a room and throwing the key away. Their sexual tension was annoying.
Humans and their relationships…were you like this when you were human once?
You couldn’t remember.
Hell, you have even forgotten your own name, that’s why anyone called you Inari.
Muzan had fucked you up well.
Anyway, you and Mitsuri said goodbye to each other, since you needed to go to the master and she needed to rest.
You enter the main room in the mansion, Shinobu and Tomioka were already sitting before the master.
You gave a deep bow and excused yourself for being late.
Oyakata-Sama just invited you to sit with them.
Pointly you ignored Tomioka’s disappointed stare and shared a quick hand squeeze with Shinobu.
Your master had exhausted kasugai crow in his lap.
“You did well to return.”, he cooed to the bird. “So, most of my children have been slaughtered? We might find the Twelve Kizuki there, then. It seems I’ll have to send in some Hashiras. Giyuu. Shinobu. Inari.”
For a second you wonder if it would be one of your old "friends".
Netherless you and your Hashira colleagues agreed with the master order.
“If only humans and demons could get along. Like we do with Inari-Chan.”, mussed Shinobu. “Don’t you agree, Tomioka?”
“Impossible… as long as demons eat humans.”
“I haven’t eaten a human in a good 50 years.”, you reminded all, but mostly Tomioka.
“You are strange and old, that’s why.”
“Did you just call me a hag?! I may look seventeen, but I’m still your senpai!”
“Ara, ara, Inari-Chan, don’t listen to Tomioka, you are still as beautiful and young as we first meet.”
Yeah, good that Shinobu was there or you would use your Katana on Tomioka.
Prick.
Good looking.
But a prick!
The master told you to go to Mount Natagumo and prepare yourself for anything.
Later, you would muse about how you didn’t had expect THAT what you encounter on the mountain.
No one could have prepared you for this.
