catching up on some tag memes. first is a fanwork creators self rec tag from @ravenkinnie where i reply with my five favorite fanworks (fics, art, podfics, etc.) that i've made, then pass on to others ♡ i actually haven't posted any fics in over two years so some of these i'm not really satisfied with anymore. but nonetheless!

hope that we'll rise like the sun will do / fullmetal alchemist / most fma fics i've written have been edwin focused, but this is the one fic i happened to write for the resembool trio so i am quite fond of it. in recent years i've also started to think more about canon minutiae (you may recall i once talked about researching the pre-wwi german wool industry), so the potential reasoning behind al's muscle atrophy and its relation to alchemy really intrigued me

as tightly as you held onto me / naruto / the hyperfocus on boruto's relationship with naruto and not with hinata despite there clearly being indications as to the latter being somewhat stronger has always been quite upsetting to me, esp as someone who has loved hinata for years lol. and back at the time the series ended there was this casual agenda for older boruto to grow his hair out and plait it so i took the opportunity at the time to turn it into a fic that i then polished years later into what i have linked above

my mouth waters to be fed / the sisters grimm / as an estranged romance truther puckabrina has always called to me and i really am always so fascinated by the fact that they simply don't speak to each other for five whole years before puck crashes sabrina's wedding in all his faux bravado and fanfare. i love it when people's pride gets in the way of their own yearning for each other, it's utterly delicious to explore, so as a fan in the minority who was a fan of the last book's epilogues, i simply had to write something to capitalize on that

the ground all around (it was always holy) / naruto / a few years ago i happened to loosely plan an entire post-canon fic series with each installment based on a different the oh hellos song (however this was prior to their releasing the four winds albums). this was the first chapter. i have working drafts of the next few chapters that i haven't polished and completed for a while now, but the concept is nonetheless very dear to me. i wanted to use it to explore more progressive ideas that felt truer to naruto's thesis statement than post-canon actually turned out to be

but heartache pales in comparison to love / naruto / i know i keep listing naruto fics but i've simply never written so many fics for any other fandom (to the point i have a separate blog exclusively for my naruto fics lol.. albeit most of them are old and have aged quite poorly). as a younger naruto fan i was entirely enamored with naruhina and that hasn't necessarily changed, but i have transitioned to being an angst supremacist, so. i went a little dark but nonetheless heartfelt with them here

1. legend of korra, to this DAY! to this day. what a show. amazing world building, development of technology, the place of the avatar waning… i was delectable! korra remains one of my favourite characters.

2. black sails, which, yeah. pirate show of all time. “treasure island prequel mixed with golden age of piracy” is an insane concept to pull off.

3. arcane, HELLO it was so good, animation and characters went so hard and it just slapped. is there anything so undoing as a daughter. yeah.

4. severance, watched recently and mmmm it’s just compelling. i’ve thought about it every week since we finished.

5. yellowjackets, we all know why this is here (milfanie lynskey)

6. kings, which i watched a full decade after it was aired and cancelled and was devastated even then. i just know if i rewatched it the woman i am today, jack/david wouldn’t even get a look in compared to david/s—[i am taken out by snipers]

7. leverage, very good show, obviously i was there for parker/hardison/eliot who were everything to me in 2017.

8. super— no i’m just kidding. imagine. probably the borgias. stupidly huge budgeted show rife with historical inaccuracies but to this day i’m still like wow they made CHOICES in the pilot and committed until cancellation. got to respect it and i love pretty historical dresses and family drama.

criminal minds to be clear i hate jeff davis but his 2 big shows changed my life this would be my answer to las culch what culture made me say culture is for me it’s the first show I ever understood as being something that was made, I sat down weekly with my parents to watch it, it was huge for me as a 10ish year old. yes i know that’s insane.

teen wolf. truly life changing for me at 13-15 im sorry but isaac lahey Scott mccall and allison argent are characters of all time to me. to MEEE.

the sopranos. didn’t watch the whole thing as a teen but i really so deeply fell in love with it at 21/22ish and has so shaped me the last couple years

riverdale. obviously

yellowjackets. obviously. just one of the only/most woman-focused series ive ever seen and engaged with so deeply it’s so sad that it’s so rare for me.

utopia. It’s utopia. It’s only the best television that’s ever been made idk what else to even say I cannot do it justice. It’s on YouTube. Just watch it!!! Wilson Wilson character development (devolvement) of ALLLLLLLL TIME!!!!

i think you should leave with tim robinson. i was late(ish?) to sketch comedy tbh, never really connected with or found any of it funny but the absurdity of this series was huge for me, such an eye opening thing for what can be accepted and funded as comedy

oh this is tough this is TOUGH!!!! It’s not game of thrones it isn’t bc that doesn’t explain me…. It’s also not black sails weirdly… it’s veep. It’s veep. For better or worse that show has influenced and changed so much of my own sense of humour and my relationship with establishment politics and with tv as a satirical medium. It fell off so much later on but the first few seasons??? fantastic. actually critical. had things to say.
