Summary: When Steve meets the reader at an art class he immediately becomes enticed and maybe, just maybe, she can help heal his wounded heart.

Part One ~ Part Two

Steve had woken up the next morning in a funk. It had started the night before when he had awkwardly walked back to the tower with Bucky. He wanted so badly to say something, to say anything to the other man but everytime he tried, he was just reminded of that night and his heart shuddered in his chest. He had thought they were finally in a good place again but it still hurt. He knew he was being selfish but he couldn’t help it. He had waited so long to finally get Bucky back and to have him so close but not in the way he wanted was torture for Steve.

It was as though the entire tower could feel Steve’s sour mood as hardly anyone bothered him throughout the day. He had spent most of it in the gym, either destroying yet another punching bag or sparing with his teammates as they drifted in and out of the room. The hours that he didn’t spend in the gym were occupied by a small amount of paperwork and mission planning.

They had recently caught wind of some illegal arm dealing off the coast of Portugal and while it would have normally been left to the authorities, they had reason to suspect they were dealing with alien tech so the team had been brought in. There wasn’t much information circling about it so Steve knew he still had a couple weeks to plan but it still made him slightly ansty being so unprepared.

The hours passed slowly but finally it was six o’clock and Steve felt no guilt as he packed up for the day. There was a slight spring in his step as he left Avengers tower with his sketchbook tucked under his arm and his sour mood from earlier was almost completely forgotten. His legs jiggled as he took the J train out to Brooklyn, equal parts nerves and excitement ransacked their way through his veins.

To help pass the time as the train rushed through underground tunnels Steve watched those around him. Not like he would on a mission trying to figure out whether or not they were actually civilians but as he imagined an artist would watch them. He tried to figure out how he would draw each and every and every passersby. He tried to memorise the way the old lady’s smile lines deepened as she spoke to who Steve assumed to be her grandson, or the way the little boy looked up to her with complete adoration in his eyes.

He felt so much more at ease than he had all day as he stepped off the train and began the short walk towards the studio, his mind never once drifting to his brunet best friend. Despite the darkening sky the streets were packed as people bustled around and Steve had to squeeze his way through the throng of people. He smiled as he passed a group of carolers despite it only being late November. The familiar tune of ‘Good King Wenceslas’ floated through his ears and he stooped to donate a hefty sum in their collection tin, earning him a round of ‘thank yous’.

The studio was only a block away so when he finally dashed up the steps, he could still hear the melodic voices of the group. As he pulled the door open, a warm gush of air washed over him and he couldn’t wait to get inside but he heard someone call out to him that made him pause.

‘Hey! Hold the door please!’ He turned as you came bustling up the stairs, your face barely visible behind the large canvass you carried. Steve stood back and ushered you in ahead of him and you gave him a small ‘thanks!’

Already starting to feel a little too warm in your multiple layers, you set down the canvass just inside the entryway and shrugged out of your heavy winter jacket. ‘It’s bloody cold out there isn’t it? I reckon we’ll get some snow for sure this year.’ Steve nodded his head somewhat absentmindedly, trying to tear his eyes away from you.

‘I - uh - yeah, I hope so. It used to snow heaps in the city when I was growing up but it’s been a while since we’ve had a proper winter.’

‘Oooh that must have been so nice! I’ve always wanted a white Christmas like in all those Hallmark movies but I grew up in Australia so that was never going to happen.’

‘You’re from Australia?’ The slight twang of your accent had been one of the first things Steve had noticed about you, but he thought maybe the average person wouldn’t have been able to tell. It definitely sounded like you had been in New York for a while.

‘Yeah, Melbourne actually. I moved here after university. I have no idea why though. Probably some preconceived notion that to be an artist, you have to struggle in New York for a bit first.’ You laughed as you mocked yourself and Steve smiled, knowing exactly what you meant. ‘What about you? Are you originally from the Big Apple or are you a newbie like me?’ Your eyes locked with his as you asked and Steve felt his smile deepen.

‘I was born and raised here in Brooklyn actually.’

‘Right of course, you literally said you grew up in the city earlier. Sorry about that.’ Steve shrugged away your apology telling you not to worry about it. The door was pulled open and you tried to move out of the way as a gust of cold air drifted inside following another class member who you smiled in greeting at.

‘We should probably head in, it’s nearly seven.’ Steve said as he checked his watch. ‘Do you need a hand with that?’ He gestured towards the large canvas leaning against the wall.

‘Oh yeah. If you wouldn’t mind? It’s just a bit awkward to carry by myself.’

‘Not at all.’ He easily lifted it into his arms and followed as you led the way down the hallway and into the studio. He had no choice but to follow as you headed towards one of the easels towards the front of the room, where you had sat last week. Even though he didn’t want to be noticed by the rest of the class, Steve couldn’t resist the temptation of sitting down in the empty stool next to yours.

He watched as you pulled out your oil paint and started setting them on a very used palette and Steve was reminded of last night. He wasn’t sure if he should bring it up, as you hadn’t mentioned yet, but he thought maybe you just hadn’t seen him. After all he and Bucky had been towards the back.

‘I uh, I saw you last night. At Ronan’s bar for the wine and art night.’ He clarified, determined not to seem creepy. ‘I was going to say hi but you seemed a little busy.’

‘Oh, really? I’m so sorry I didn’t even notice you were there! But how good is it!? $25 for unlimited wine plus some art fun. It’s just a shame they only run it during winter.’ You looked slightly remorseful and Steve couldn’t help but agree.

‘I didn’t realise that. I just found the flier over the weekend and decided to give it a try.’

‘Well I’m glad you did. If you don’t mind me asking, why the sudden interest in art?’

‘Oh, well I don’t know really. One of my friends, Nat, found my sketchbook that’s basically been abandoned the last few years and wouldn’t stop nagging me to get back into it. She and Tony are always pushing me to have a life beyond work.’

‘Tony as in Tony Stark?’

It only crossed Steve’s mind as he nodded that perhaps not all of Tony’s employees were on a first name basis with him. He needed to be more careful with the words that came out of his mouth. Eager to shift the conversation away from Tony he quickly divulged even more personal information. ‘I uh, I think it might have something to do with my friend, the one I told you about last time.’

‘Oh?’

‘Yeah, growing up he was practically always my muse and we’ve only recently found each other again - he had to go away for a while. Maybe it’s because he’s back again that I’ve found the inspiration…’ He drifted off, unsure of what he was saying. ‘That probably didn’t make any sense.’

‘No, no, it did. I totally get what you mean. I used to have this dog, his name was Bear and growing up I used to draw him all the time. But when he passed away, I just didn’t feel that spark anymore, you know? It took me a while to find it again but when I did everything just made sense again.’

Steve was refrained from replying by the entrance of Madame Maxine to the studio as she quickly called the class to order.

‘Today we have the wonderful Jerry modelling again. Since it is his second week, he will be modelling nude for us today.’ Her attention drifted back to Jerry who was wearing a dark red silken robe. ‘If you could please derobe Jerry and get settled into position B that would be brilliant.’ Jerry nodded and followed her instructions, setting himself down on the stool in front of the class. Steve had to admire his confidence. He knew that even if it was purely for art he could never model nude for anyone, he struggled enough doing promotional shots when he was fully clothed.

Steve was too aware of you sitting next to him for the next hour. Everytime you shifted on your stool or bent to mix some more paints he noticed and his eyes followed your movements. As a result his own sketch was barely half complete by the time the hour was up and the small bell rang. He would definitely be voting to keep the position.

Your painting on the other hand was beautiful. Despite the limited time you had not only managed to capture Jerry as he was, but also his essence. Steve was enraptured and stammered his way through a maze of compliments which you humbly shrugged away.

‘I just have experience with Jerry, he modelled last winter and he works here part time too.’

‘He works here?’

‘Yeah Maxine rents out the studios to aspiring artists if they need a large space. I had this massive project over the summer on three canvases that were each four by five meters and my apartment is a shoebox so it never would have worked if it weren’t for Maxine.’

‘Wow, that sounds impressive.’ Steve could hardly imagine working on as big a canvass as you were currently using, never mind one nearly three times the size. ‘How long did it take you to finish?’

You glanced down, slightly avoiding his eyes. ‘It’s not… well it's not technically finished yet. I’m so close to being done with it but I just…’ You trailed off, unsure how to put it into words.

‘There’s something missing?’ Steve filled in for you and you nodded eagerly.

‘It’s almost right but everytime I think it’s done I realise just how much I hate it and I have to leave the room to stop myself from painting over it again.’ Although Steve had never done something quite on the same wavelength he could relate to the need for perfection. He had lost count of how many pages he had ripped out of his sketchbook and thrown in the trash only to start all over again.

‘What’s it of?’

‘It’s a collection, mainly of my favourite places in New York and it’s all about the human footprint… or at least, it’s meant to be.’

‘If it’s anything like your painting of Jerry I’m sure it’ll be incredible.’

Steve didn’t have to be able to see it to know that your cheeks would be flushing with heat at his compliment. He didn’t understand why you doubted yourself so much, it was clear that you were incredibly talented. ‘Thank you, you’re far too sweet.’

Maxine clapped her hands once again calling the attention of everyone. ‘It is now that time where we decide if we would like Jerry to stay as he is or if we would like him in a new position. Raise your hands for the same pose.’ Steve eagerly raised his hand along with you and most of the class.

After a quick headcount Maxine nodded firmly. ‘Well that settles it, Jerry, if you would be so kind as to return to position B.’ Once again the silk robe fell to the floor as Jerry repositioned himself on the stool and Steve promised that he wouldn’t let himself get as distracted by you this time around.

By the end of the second hour Steve had a half decent looking sketch that paled in comparison to yours but he had long since resigned himself to its fate.

‘Your painting is amazing.’ He told you truthfully and you smiled up at him abashed.

‘Thank you Steve. That really means a lot.’

‘Well, it’s definitely true.’ Once again, Steve’s heart constricted in his chest as you flashed a sweet, bashful smile his way. He really felt a little ridiculous, being so completely enticed by someone he had only just met but being with you, it just all felt different.

He watched as you packed up your paints and helped you carry the drying canvas over to the corner of the room where Maxine said you could leave it for the night.

By the time you were by the coat rack you and Steve were the only students left in the studio, everyone else had filed out fairly quickly. Steve shoved his coat on and quickly plucked your own from the hook, holding it out for you.

He wondered briefly if he was perhaps overstepped but the smile of gratitude you flashed him put him at ease as you daintily slid your arms into the open holes. ‘Thank you.’

‘Anytime.’ He walked with you out of the building and down into the street.

‘Well, I’m heading this way.’ You pointed in the opposite direction of the train station and Steve felt a brief flash of chagrin. He wasn’t quite ready to say goodbye just yet and he got the feeling that you felt the same.

‘I’m the other way. But uhh…’ The invitation to coffee at a cafe just down the street was on the tip of his tongue as his phone rang. ACDC’s Back in Black rang through the cool night air, breaking any tension that had been building up.

You flashed what looked like a remorseful smile and raised a hand in farewell. ‘I’ll let you get that, but will you be at Ronan’s next week?’

‘Yeah, yes. I will.’ Steve hadn’t really thought about returning to the little bar but if that’s where you were going to be, that’s where he would be too.

‘Great! I’ll uh, see you there.’ You flashed him that sweet and bashful smile once more before turning on your heel and getting lost in the crowds of New York.

Steve watched you go for longer than he really should have and by the time he finally fished his phone out of his pocket Tony had nearly been sent to voicemail.

‘Tony, what’s going on?’

THE CEO’s - ceo calum/luke part 5

Summary: You are Luke’s PA and have a thing for his rival Calum after meeting him in a bar one night, but you don’t know who he is

Word Count: 3.35k

For a minute, you stood in shock staring towards the door that Calum had just gone through. Calum had said he had his own business, but you weren’t expecting it to be anything to do with the field that you worked in, let alone be at your office and in the meeting room you needed to be in. Grabbing the empty glass, you headed over to the water machine. Calum had been in a suit when you’d met him, but this time was different. He looked more professional, the buttons were all the way up and a red tie hugged his neck. His blazer was the perfect fit round his shoulders, making them look toned even through the layers of fabric.

You shook you head to try and get him out your mind as the water almost spilled over the top of the glass. Walking towards the meeting room, you felt your heart beat slightly faster. Why the hell was Calum in your meeting room? As you entered, you were glad that it wasn’t just Luke and Calum in there. Around 15 people sat along the long table. You made your way straight towards Luke and sat in the seat next to him, taking your laptop out from under your arm and placing it on the desk with your glass. Opposite you was Melissa, one of the director’s assistants that worked just below Luke. You gave them a small smile, grateful that you didn't have to be sat directly in front of Calum for the duration of the meeting.

You tapped the buttons impatiently as you waited for the screen to load so you could type in your password. You printed the documents for all Luke’s meeting which included lists of people attending, Calum had to be on there somewhere. You eventually got to the folder and opened a couple of the documents. The first to load was an email attachment you had received from Hood Co.

You scrolled down the document searching for his name. It was an email about planning the meetings from a few weeks ago. Your eyes widened as you reached the signature of the email.

‘CALUM HOOD’ you thought. He’s the CEO. Luke’s 'rival'. You've spent the day fantasising about your company's biggest competitor and he's now in the same room as you and your boss.

Luke nudged you under the table with his knee and your eyes immediately shot to his. He mouthed a ‘you alright’, a concerned look plastered on his face. You nodded in response and loosened yourself in your chair slightly, leaning back and making yourself more comfortable. You scanned the room for Calum, noticing he was sat at the other end of the table on the opposite side. Your eyes caught his as you looked up, his face still plastered with a cheeky smirk from the kitchen. You gave him a smile back. Jesus, he looked good.

‘Right’ Luke spoke up, you were thankful for him breaking the silence in the room. ‘Let’s just pick up where we left off. This is Y/N, she’s my assistant. She’ll be helping with any admin and technical bits. I'm sure you all have her email by now’.

After Luke introduced you, you tried to keep your eyes locked on the computer screen from then onwards, hoping that your focus would be on the meeting.

Calum was the first to start talking as you caught up on some of the meeting notes from earlier on. It didn’t take long; Luke wasn’t very good at making notes as well as leading a meeting when there were this many people here talking.

You continued making notes as the group spoke, grateful for the fast-flowing conversations as it meant that you could think about nothing other than typing the words you were hearing. As the meeting went on, you understood what Luke meant about trying to befriend each other rather than being rivals. As two of the leading engineering companies in Australia, they often competed for clients. If they were working together for some jobs, then the bigger team would mean there was less pressure and more resources. It made sense and it was probably the biggest decision that Luke had made since you'd joined. Maybe even in his entire career. So, perfecting a contract for the two companies to merge for certain jobs was a big deal.

The meeting lasted a few hours. Your stomach was starting to growl slightly and the thought of your sandwich back in the office wasn't helping so when it was dismissed with a plan to pick up where you'd left off tomorrow morning you let out a huge sigh of relief. You stayed seated as Calum and his employees began gathering up their things.

'Thank you for that' Luke looked more relaxed now and seemed a bit cheerier than before.

'My pleasure' you turned slightly to face him and gave him a smile. It had been nice to do something different today. Sure, you'd sat in plenty of meetings, but this was something new for the company and something you were excited for after learning more about this afternoon, although there were many different reasons for that.

You and Luke headed back to your office; you didn't look at Calum on the way past just in case he caught you staring. On the way back Luke asked Amy, one of the new interns, to show Hood Co. out. She happily obliged and who wouldn't? No one says no to Luke and she also got to stare at Calum.

The sandwich sat on the coffee table didn't look as appetising as it did when you'd got it earlier, and to be honest, eating dodgy food wasn't something that you wanted to experience. You screwed your face up as you picked it off the table and chucked it in the bin, it didn't smell great either.

'Did you not get a chance to eat?' Luke nodded towards the sandwich as he placed his laptop on his desk.

'No, I grabbed it at lunch' You glanced over at the clock. 5:17. You'd done your hours for the day and didn't really have anything major to do for now.

'You can go home Y/N'

You looked back over to Luke.

'Are you sure? I can stay for longer if you need me' you never liked leaving without it being okay with him.

'Not much more can be done tonight, thank you for all your help today'

'Anytime Luke'

'Well in that case, would you mind sitting in the rest of the meetings for this deal? You made it so much easier today, and Melissa does a good job, but she has he own work to focus on too. You just somehow always manage to get everything done perfectly first time anyway!' Luke looked almost as apprehensive as he had done when he'd asked you earlier. Melissa was one of Luke's newer employees who dealt with some of the Directors admin. As you'd gradually got busier, Melissa was the one that Luke called on to attend his meeting, make notes and sometimes even travel with him when you couldn't make it.

'Of course, I don't' you smiled. 'I don't want to take away Melissa's role though' you picked your bag up from your desk and rummaged around for your keys. Checking you had your phone with you to and that your laptop was charging for tomorrow you headed to the door.

'You won't be' he assured you. 'We've promoted another employee to become a director so she will have even less time to focus on this now anyway, and it's a big deal that needs a lot of time and attention'

'Okay well thanks for the extra work' you joked earning a smile from him. 'Don't stay too late Luke, I don't want to be dealing with a grumpy you tomorrow morning'

'Grumpy? Me? Never!' a laugh escaped his lips.

'Night Luke' your eyes rolled at his comment

'Have a good evening' he replied. As you walked out into the corridor you noticed that the office had started to empty. It was crazy how having someone important in the office made people put in extra work and stayed longer. Walking towards the lift your thoughts wondered back to Calum. You checked your phone to see if he'd messaged you and to your surprise he had.

'I'll pick you up at 7?'

You never really let people pick you up, always just insisted that you'd just met them wherever planned, but Calum already knew where you lived, and it would just be easier.

You smiled stupidly at your phone typing a 'sounds great x', ditching the smiley face for a kiss at the end, as you went through the door and pushed the down button at the lifts. Your drive home took longer than usual as you hit all the rush hour traffic and by the time you got home you didn't have long to get ready. You put on some make up to make yourself look a bit more alive and changed into a skirt and a nice top, slipping on some high-top converse to make it slightly more casual, hoping that you weren't going anywhere extremely fancy.

It wasn't your usual Monday night, you'd usually get home and do a workout or go straight to the gym and then cook, shower and sleep, all ready to repeat the next day. As you applied a thin coat of lip gloss, your phone rang.

'Hey gorgeous, I'm outside' well that made your heart beat faster!

'Okay I'll come down now' You grabbed your small bag that you usually used for going out-out and went to the front of your building. You thought that maybe you'd at least have to try and spot Calum's car but no, the huge brand-new Rolls Royce that he was stood next to didn't really make him blend in with your apartment complex norm. You probably should’ve guessed that he had a nice car as Luke had plenty, and each time he purchased one he always invited you along to help him pick some of the design features. You loved it, you loved driving but could definitely not afford a Rolls Royce, so helping design Luke’s was the closest you’d ever really get.

He was wearing black jeans and a Guess t-shirt which made you thank yourself that you’d made your outfit more casual. As you approached the car, he opened the door for you before walking round to the driver’s side and getting in. You both smiled at each other before you broke the silence.

‘So, you’re Mr Hood huh?’ you still couldn’t quite believe that you’d been in a meeting with him earlier.

‘Well I don’t like to boast about it, plus, who knows the name of someone who runs a construction business?’

‘Oh, is that why you decided to pick me up in this car?’ you asked, ‘So that you can lie low’. He knew you were being sarcastic as his face cracked a smile. Calum tried his hardest to keep his eyes on the road, but he couldn’t help looking at you as your eyes scanned around the luxury car.

‘I can bring the Bentley next time if that’s more suitable’ Calum commented, and you smiled at his confidence.

‘I really wasn’t expecting to see you in my office today’

‘And you think I was expecting to see you?’ His voice got a bit higher as he spoke. ‘I just wanted a coffee and suddenly you’re walking towards the kitchen’

Calum ended up taking you to a restaurant that he said he’d discovered the last time he was in this part of town. It was a small, family run Italian and it was delicious. Although you offered, he insisted he paid, claiming he chose the restaurant, so it was down to him. You spoke about how you’d gotten into the business, applying for the job and completing a university environmental science degree through the company. It was easy to talk to Calum about your role, most people who hear ‘personal assistant’ assuming its running after their boss every minute of every day but with Calum having his own, he knew it was much more. You loved the variety of jobs that you got to work on and things that you learnt.

Calum spoke about how he got into business and how he could never had imagined he would’ve been so successful. His father had founded the company years ago and it wasn’t until he decided to take a step down that Calum was able to take it to a bigger level.

You also spoke about your families and friends. Turns out Michael who works on his team and was in the meeting today was one of his closest friends and they had been for years. You told him that Luke has the same type of relationship with someone called Ashton who would’ve been in the meeting but was currently away on holiday.

When Calum drove you home, you felt kind of sad that the night was over. You’d had a good time and could’ve carried on speaking to him for hours more. So, when he pulled into your apartment complex, you couldn’t help but ask him something you’d never asked a guy you’d recently met to do before.

‘Do you um… Do you want to come in for a bit?’ he seemed slightly shocked at your question. ‘Oh no not for that you know I just thought maybe we could have a drink and watch Friends or something, it’s what I’d usually do anyway’

Your question was answered when he pulled into a parking space and turned his engine off, shooting you a smile. You apologised for the mess in your apartment as you walked through the door. Your makeup was littered across the coffee table, for some reason you’d decided to put your makeup on in the living room today. There were a few glasses that you had yet to wash up but other than that you kept it very clean. ‘You can but your keys on the hook if you want’ You noticed the keys in his hand and pointed to the hook next to the door where the key to your Mini hung.

‘Are you joking? It’s spotless’ he laughed at you slightly as you sat on the edge of the sofa and untied your shoes and he copied your actions. You picked up both pairs of shoes and placed them on a shoe rack in the hall.

‘I’m a bit of a clean freak’ you admitted. I was true, even if you’d left clothes scattered around for a few days, everything was clean and spotless. ‘I don’t like germs and dust’

He laughed and shook his head you swiped the contents of the table into your makeup bag in an attempt to tidy and placed the glasses onto the kitchen side. The perks of living in an apartment with an open plan kitchen and living room meant that you could have a quick tidy without seeming rude.

‘You’ve got a Mini?’ he asked, obviously noticing the key when he’d placed his with it.

‘Yeah I love it. I had one as my first car and when it eventually got too much use, I just got myself a brand new one as a treat. Do you want anything to drink?’ you asked. Neither of you had drunk at dinner, just had some pink lemonade. ‘I’ve got beer’ You picked the Peroni out of the fridge and waved it in his direction.

‘A beer would be great’ he smiled. ‘I’ve never driven a Mini before’ You grabbed a beer for yourself and joined him on the sofa which he was still perched on the end of. You rolled your eyes and threw the display cushions on the floor.

‘You can sit properly you know’ you handed him his beer and sat down next to him with your back on the cushions and feet up on the coffee table.

‘I just didn’t want to mess anything up’ he made himself comfier as you reached and grabbed the remote that had was on the arm.

‘I’m not that picky’ you laughed ‘And maybe one day you can drive mine if you’re lucky’.

‘Oh really?’ he raised his eyebrows at you. ‘Only if I’m lucky’

‘Well it is my pride and joy’ you smiled. ‘Do you mind if I put Friend’s on or would you prefer something else’.

‘No, I love Friends’

‘Thank god for that, I watch it constantly on loop and all my friends hate it, I just never get bored of it, I think I’m near the end of season 5’

‘Which one do you think I’m most like’ he asked. You cocked your head at him slightly.

‘Hmmm maybe Joey but with more going on up there’ you pointed to your head as you spoke. He let out a little laugh before asking why. ‘I don’t know you just seem like you’d ‘wow’ all the ladies, what about me?’

‘Monica if we’re talking about cleaning, Chandler if we’re talking about sense of humour’

‘Are you calling me sarcastic?’ you narrowed your eyes at him with a smile. ‘And there’s no mention of Rachel’

‘Is that a problem?’ he asked

‘Well she’s only the most attractive women on the planet’

‘I’d say she has strong competition’ he answered as he looked at you. You noticed how his eyes changed slightly. He said it softly, but his eyes said it differently. You both carried on watching Friends and after a while your eyes started closing, your head falling on his shoulder every now and then as you got sleepier. Season 5 eventually finished, and Calum sat up slightly, looking as sleepy as ever, and extremely cute.

You flipped over your phone and looked at the time. 01:25. How was it already so late, you’d usually be well asleep by this time on a Monday night.

‘Shit we’ve got a meeting in the morning’ you remembered as Calum rubbed his eyes.

‘Yeah I should probably get going’ he pouted at the end making you just want to cuddle into him even more.

‘I’ll grab your shoes’ you got up from the sofa and wrapped the blanket that had been covering both your legs around your shoulders to keep warm. After tying his laces, Calum made his way to the door.

‘Thank you for a nice evening’ you smiled up at him as he stood just by your front door. You insisted to walk him down, but he promised he could do it himself.

‘I had a great time too’ his hair was slightly messed up and voice slightly groggy from the tiredness. You both stood there smiling stupidly at each other until he placed his hands around your waist and his face closer to yours. You dropped the blanket from your hands and placed your arms round his neck, connecting your lips to his. The whole thing felt dreamy. What was even happening to you. After a while, you both pulled away and rested your forehead on his as he bit his lip and you smiled up at him.

‘See you in the morning Calum, text me when you’re back safe’ you smiled up at him. You both released your hands from around each other as he grabbed his car keys from the hook.

‘See you in the morning gorgeous’ you opened the door for him, and he stepped into the corridor, giving you a hug and a kiss on the forehead before leaving.

You shut the door and picked up the blanket and cushions that were over the floor. You washed up the glasses from before and placed the beer bottles in the glass recycling. You sat on the sofa and went through your phone, noticing how the smell of Calum had lingered on the fabric.

You got yourself into the shower and eventually bed, falling asleep as soon as the text from Calum hit your phone. But the late night hadn’t helped with the early start that came the next morning.

EARLY YEARS;

Ethan Wood was born and raised to do one thing and one thing only: play soccer. Being the middle child of legendary University of North Carolina starting forward Olivier Wood and renowned athleisure wear designer Daphne Wood, there was only one path for this budding young soccer prodigy. And it was to follow in daddy’s footsteps donning the prestigious Carolina blue and white of his father’s alma mater.

His childhood was pleasant, raised on his family’s estate in the coveted Eight and filled with family getaways and father/son trips to UNC/Wake Forest rivalry matches. Matches that he hoped to one day play in. Young Ethan was a natural talent and he picked up the game rather quickly, spending every free moment practicing in the yard or scribbling down strategies. He wanted nothing more than to make his father proud and carry on his legacy.

HIGH SCHOOL;

Ethan was sent to one of the finest private schools on the island that money could buy. Of course, he wasn’t there for his grades and what he lacked in brains, his skills on the field made up for. He made varsity soccer his freshman year and then went on to become captain during his senior year, reveling in all the perks that came with being a star athlete: parties, hookups, popularity. As Ethan’s athletic abilities along with his ego continued to grow, so did his competitive edge, arrogance, and hot temper which is known for getting him into trouble on and off the pitch. He’s no stranger to an alcohol induced bawl and struggles to keep his temper under control.

COLLEGE;

It’s no secret that in the OBX money talks and Mr. Wood had deep pockets. A library donation and a legacy later, Ethan finally realized his dream and secured a spot on his beloved UNC soccer team. His temper being the reason for the trouble in the first place. It didn’t take long for him to become the frat star worthy of his reputation. Sure, he had to overcome those pesky freshman years, team hazing, and locker room banter, even spending the half a season on the bench for his hot headed temper. Nonetheless, he managed to make a name for himself even if slightly tarnished.

SEASON 1;

Fresh off his college graduation, Ethan returned to the Outer Banks with his sights set on playing professional soccer in the upcoming season. Before entering the real world in the fall, he joined the show for one last hurrah and boy did he get what he signed up for. The summer was filled with all sorts of shenanigans, parties, booze, and hook-ups.

Ethan rounded out the first season of OBX rather unscathed, save for a secret hook-up and an unlikely friendship that he formed with a pogue. He gained some notoriety from the show and it was a perfect launch for his new life in the public eye.

SEASON 2;

Ethan started footy training in the fall after the reality show ended, and he played for Inter Miami FC, a team owned by David Beckham himself. He took up residence in Miami for the soccer season and traveled the country with his team becoming the soccer star he always wanted to be. His rookie season was one for the books, and if you thought his ego couldn’t get any bigger, check again.

In his off time, Ethan maintained his growing popularity by making appearances at all the Miami hot spots and keeping up a rather impressive social media presence, constantly posting his fitness routines and workouts in addition to his nights out. This earned him a reputation off the pitch, and his name managed to find its way into the local papers and magazines. He did his best to keep in touch with his friends from the show despite his busy schedule, and even visited the OBX whenever he could.

With his first professional soccer season in the books, Ethan returned to the reality show for another summer, much to his PR team’s dismay who was working to clean up with reputation, not add to it. It was another summer filled with partying, booze, and messing around. A well deserved celebration after a triumphant soccer season. Ethan grew closer with his housemates and even started forming stronger connections with some of them as family, friends, or more.

POST SEASON 2;

High off another successful season of Outer Banks, Ethan went back to Miami with a newfound air of confidence about him and an extra pep in his step. He worked and trained twice as hard, determined to play even better than last year. He managed to keep up his scoring average and earned ‘man of the match’ in several games. Ethan spent less time in the OBX, but instead invited his buddies to come matches and come visit whenever he got the chance. He loved to preform and there was something about having the cast around that made him play even better.

With only a handful of games left, Ethan suffered an injury that cut his season short. He tore his MCL and spent the months leading up to the summer recovering and going to physical therapy in Miami. His PR team advised him against returning to the show to focus on getting in shape for the upcoming season, but Ethan couldn’t pass up the opportunity to spend the summer in Australia with his crew.

POGUES VS KOOKS;

Ethan got into his fair share of Pogues vs Kooks scuffles back in high school. Nights filled with stupid boyish banter, booze, and blows. He likes to think he’s above all the rivalry now— playing pro ball and all— but sometimes he still struggles to truly let go of the past and be the bigger person. He’s an athlete though and though, and rivalries are all just a part of the game.

HEADCANONS;

Despite the ever present confident air about him, Ethan is super generous especially when it comes to nights out and tipping. He is always happy to pick up the tab and doll out rounds of shots for him and his buddies at no charge. As selfish as he can be sometimes, he loves it when his friends are having a good time and is a firm believer in the more the merrier.

To help him keep his tempter on and off the pitch under control, Ethan got into boxing/mma and incorporates it into his workouts whenever he can. He can be found either going to a gym to practice his upper cuts or on beach working on them on his own. He does it mostly for fun, but every now and again finds himself having to throw down.

For the most part, Ethan can’t really cook, but on the off chance he’s not sneaking out after a one night stand, he makes a killer breakfast, usually in his boxers.

He has secret love for astronomy and mythology particularly hero myths and the stories behind the constellations. Growing up, he always found them fascinating and was the only one of his brothers who would actually sit and listen to his grandfather babble on about them. Those were some of his most cherished memories, and he often celebrates his goals by blowing a kiss to the heavens to dedicate them the ol’ man.

Moana is his absolute favorite Disney movie, and he will never say no to watching it. He also thinks Maui is the shit and knows all of the words to “You’re Welcome” by heart. Beware, he will actually belt it out if asked.

WANTED CONNECTIONS;

let’s make ‘em jealous; There’s no denying that Ethan and this person have chemistry. They are super flirty and all over each other, but in reality it’s all a rouse. They aren’t really into one another and are merely using each other to stir up some drama, cause a scene, and make the ones that really do catch their eyes jealous. [OPEN]

the role model; Ethan didn’t really have many positive role models to look up to growing up, mainly just his father and his toxic masculinity. This person helps Ethan balance all that out and helps him deal with all those pesky emotions he was taught to keep suppressed inside in order to “be a man.” This person also keeps him in check and isn’t afraid to give him a much needed smack to the upside of the head when necessary. the rival; To say Ethan is competitive is the understatement of the century, and he and this person have a rivalry for the ages. The two don’t like each other and this person never fails to get under Ethan’s skin. It could have even started back in school and carried over to now. Perhaps the reason Ethan had some trouble getting into UNC for soccer? Bonus points if they have to put all their differences aside and work together at some point for a common goal. [OPEN]

the hook-ups; Ethan really isn’t the type to stick around after a hook-up and is usually out before the sun comes up, never wanting to get attached. If anyone wants to give him a much deserved slap upside the head or just wants to keep things casual and flirty, let me know! [OPEN]

the real bros; for those looking for a second muse, Ethan has two brothers xD. Julian and Damian (names can totally change! I just headcannon them all ending in -an) He has one older brother who rejected the athlete/UNC/kook life leaving Ethan with the pressure to fill daddy’s soccer boots. They had a fall out and their relationship is shaky at best. Ethan also has a baby bro who he is definitely closer with. They get on rather typically through harmless banter and school boy shenanigans. He also has an innate protectiveness over him because he is older. [OPEN]
