I am new here and would like to share my content for my first game, which will be a horror rpg game!

The game is inspired by Alice in wonderland and Fran Bow 🫧

Here you can see a concept art of my main character for the game, it’s Venus <3 she is a quiet but brave girl who one day gets lost in wonderland.

I’ll design this game completely by hand, drawing every map and character by myself on paper or Aseprite :)

I’ll share on this blog, any sketches, ideas or pieces of the game and story.

Folks are coming back around to it - most of the posts I've seen about helldivers 2 amount to "It's a deep rock galactic clone and it's so good". And then there's the Slay the Spire clones, where there's no shame in admitting megacrit just sorta kicked down a door in indie devspace and everybody else is flooding in after them. The vampire survivors clones too

I think the difference is just that old clones were copying things because they inspired or proved stuff in the then-new sphere of gaming. A WoW clone was fine because WoW itself was a revolution. A Halo clone was fine becayse Halo was a revolution, same with doom, same with metroid/castlevania, etc

Once a new game proves the core of an experience the clones stream in to feel out the subtleties and nuances of the space and that is Very Good

The problem is when the things being cloned are themselves the long-derived sequel-by-sequel clones of old things that don't do anything new anymore but just execute on the risk-free cash-grab that's already proven

the fact that in the modern day clones are thought of negatively saddens me. remember the time where all fps games were doom clones. clones are good actually. like half the genres of games that exist are literally just "like that one game".

I've shifted my focus into three significantly different projects in the past three months, trying to figure out what's more core to myself and what'll impart more meaning to more people as my life falls out from under me. My endless rambling overthinking apply to my organizational notes too, of course, and a little mystique-coated insight into such might be of some interest and some compensation for my ever-limited output means. All of these projects are revivals in some fashion or another...

The first project was to revive some old level drafts of mine in smbx, which provides endlessly more custom control than romhacks and The Makers have. It's an enrichening experience to just try to make evocative levels and fangames have few asset concerns, but it turns out memory address manipulation and poorly-documented lua are miserable places to work in. Also, I intended to make easier levels as a lead-in to my initial harder level-set, but it was despiriting for initial testers to find them just as difficult. Perhaps I'll just release some half-broken draft eventually?

The second project was to return to the terrible demons of my youth, and to do final work in something already-soldified that gives immediate results: the old iconic roguelike-devspace I was tempered in. There have always been significant structural issues to many of the branches present in it, and I have had plans within plans for years to address such, but the sheer scope of such fix-ups made my righteous fury fizzle out and made my "ignore literally all player / dev comments as I make this world better" approach an unenticing prospect. Still, I've got 4k words just for commit essays for the above- maybe at some point I'll flex my unseen puppetering and level chops when that accursed toxic mess goes from half-dead to fully dead.

The third project is to follow up on prior mod work and my old smt esoterica projects, as well as my constant assertions of for some touhou deckbuilder roguelike It's going to look rather divorced from most touhou fangames in both aesthetic and what means I can pull together by myself, but I've given myself a number of very specific numbering rules for content and it's a good medium for all this endless disorganized prose.

2017 was a phenomenal year for me and I feel humbled to have got the opportunity to present in a number of events – SQL Saturdays, Code Camps, Tech Conferences and User Groups.  There were also conferences which I went as an attendee.

I presented more than 20 times this year. I travelled to mostly nearby states within 5-6 hours of driving distance. I spoke in 6 SQL Saturdays, which are always neatly organized. Being a SQL Saturday Organizer myself, I know the amount of effort which goes in to host these events – the same holds true for other tech events too. Honestly I love the vibe of SQL Saturdays – the personal touch, a sense of bonding, folks always available to help and not to forget a great learning opportunity available at no cost.

Some of the other nice conferences I spoke this year was Codestock(Knoxville), DevSpace(Huntsville), Gulf Coast Code Camp(Mobile) and Atlanta Code Camp. These were relatively bigger sized conferences and had a wider range of topics and presentations involved.

Two of my favorite events this year was the Microsoft Build Conference and the PASS Summit, both held at Seattle. Speaking at PASS Summit to a packed room was undoubtedly my best experience this year.

I keep track of all my speaking engagements here. I also love to keep my conference badges organized in my office room, as you can see in the picture below 🙂

Blogging helps me to reach out to a bigger and diverse audience, sitting in the comfort of my own home. Speaking in Conferences needs a lot more effort – there is travelling involved, staying overnight in hotels, out of pocket expenditures and the fact that you need to plan to be absent from work for couple of days. But on the bright side, you get to network and build connections with organizers, attendees and make new friends – which help you to build your personal brand. It is also a great opportunity to listen to some of the best speakers around and interact with the brightest minds. I have learned immensely from my fellow speakers as well.

The session evaluations and feedback I receive from my talks help me to improve my technical & presentation skills each time. The positive feedbacks are a continuous source of motivation and keeps me going. 

I look forward to continue speaking in more conferences in 2018. Thanks to everyone involved for your support.
