The attack had happened. Nothing physically had happened to Molly. She was one of the few lucky ones. But her mind was constantly swirling with what she saw; people being maimed and dying. How could anyone not be affected by something like that? She had been trying to do different things to get out of her head but it had been difficult. That's when she decided to talk to Amos. She still needed to try out for the Quidditch team. She didn't know how he would feel about it but he agreed to meet with her.
Waiting for him at the Quidditch pitch, Molly's stomach was a mess. She had nerves from what had happened along with nerves of trying out, especially during such a time. But it was something she wanted terribly. Molly hoped terribly that focusing on trying out for the team would give her something to give all her focus.
She closed her eyes and heard James' voice. "Being a chaser is flying." Flying through her hair was what she needed. She wished she had practiced more but knew she could do this. She could hear Amos approaching and opened her eyes. Molly gave a small smile.
"Can't believe we're finally here," she breathed in. "I'm as ready as I'll ever be," Molly said with nerves crawling into her throat.

Sybill was pleasantly sitting in study period reading her books on divination, highlighting the important parts — though for her that was everything; the entire book was highlighted. She was appreciative to have a designated time to sit down and concentrate. She did so in her room and the library but that was always on her time. There she was forced.
Deep in thought and deep in her reading Sybill was distracted by a little paper airplane that landed on her desk. She looked around, unsure of where it came from. “Hmm,” she hummed under her breath as she continued to survey the room.

Where: Great Hall Who: Open
Study period was something Amos hated. There was nothing worse than been forced to concentrate in complete silence in the Great Hall for an hour. Amos was much more of a study in the comfort of his room person, preferably with Elrond curled up, purring in his sleep next to him. He had been at least attempting to get some of the essay done, but he just couldn't concentrate in this environment. When Amos felt penned in like this. It was when he wanted to create the most chaos. He took a new piece of parchment, scribbled down a quick note with a smirk. Folding it into a paper aeroplane, before sneakily aiming it towards his friend further down the the table.

who: @diggoryxamos where: gryffindor dorms
It wasn't uncommon by any means to find Penelope rushing around the Gryffindor tower in search of her cat Beatrice. In fact, it was quite the normal occurrence. If one didn't see her doing that, either she was hurrying around with plants in her hands or on the way to the greenhouse or, the most likely alternative, on the way to the quidditch pitch for practice. Penelope had never been someone who could sit still for too long, finding there was far too much to be done and far too many adventures lurking just around the next corner.
By the time she reached the stairs again there really was only one place left the cat could have run off. It was almost laughable that she hadn't considered the option first since it was such a regular thing. Quick steps hurried toward the boy's dorm before knocking, carefully letting the door swing open after a moment. Penelope had been in this room far more often than any of the other dorms apart from her own. "Why am I not surprised that she's found herself a nap spot in your dorm?"
Without so much as a second thought she moved over, leaning against a bed post with a chuckle. Beatrice clearly was having the time of her life, not a care in the world. And she wasn't the only one. "So, who's winning the race for your attention, hm?"

who: @diggoryxamos where: great hall, end of the dance floor near refreshment table event: yule ball 1978
The evening had been nice, far from what she'd expected and all things considered it was something she knew she'd remember for years to come. Selma had been talking to a friend after having bumped into them while looking for Alex around the room. It was quite the shocking realization to see just how many people could fit within the halls filled with music on a night such as this; even more shocking to see just how hard it was to find another. That was until her eyes fell upon someone else the witch would not have minded speaking to in the least. Amos, brother of the one she'd been looking for. While there was no guarantee the other would know the whereabouts of his brother, it was at the very least a chance to talk. There was some idle curiosity that occasionally made itself known. "Excuse me", she turned to her friend. "I've got to talk to someone."
Selma didn't bother much to hear the answer before her feet carried her through the crowd toward the Gryffindor. "Amos!" Despite calling out to him upon nearing him, the voice still held a certain grace and politelness, one she couldn't simply shake. Etiquette had been embeded within her until it had become the same thing as breathing; too normal to ever fully let go of. "Selma Avery. I don't believe we've officially met. Beyond the usual circles in which names are thrown about." She allowed herself a sip from her drink. "Do you happen to have seen your brother around? It's a bit hard to find anyone in this crowd. Little bit like a bowtruckle in a yard, isn't it?" It would have been foolish of her to deny the fact that she was more than happy to learn more of the other, yet finding Alex had priority.

a closed starter for @diggoryxamos where: the quidditch pitch
Winter was beginning to settle in around Hogwarts like a cold and unwelcome cloak. When it wasn't snowing, it was foggy, and when it wasn't foggy it was windy, blowing hard enough to cut you to the bone and freeze your fingers to a broomstick. Of course, Quidditch stopped for nothing, and James found himself on the pitch, broom in hand, looking up at a day so foggy it was like his glasses had a permanent fog to them.
"Amos, mate," he said as he turned his attention from the sky to the man next to him, "I know you're determined for us to win the cup this year but I think I'm more likely to hit the goalposts than get a quaffle in there. I'd rather play in a blizzard than this. Drills, mate? In this?" He flung out an arm to the sky. "Is it really that hard to get time on the pitch?"

oh, you'll have to be more specific, darling. there's more than one of each roaming about these grounds, but who knows which ones getting up to what with the other. makes for an interesting story, if you ask me.

hc + 🌇 for a headcanon about morning- or evening rituals
evening going into night is sybill’s favorite time. she sits on the balcony of the ravenclaw tower to watch the sun fall and the stars rise. she begins seeing the stars she’s named, the constellations which have already been named and all the ones yet to be named. she does this much every night but on special nights she heads out to the quidditch pitch and lays in the grass to see the sky from a different perspective. she’s even recently had a ln unexpected visit from a boy named amos diggory.

where: Great Hall When:Breakfast who: closed; @diggoryxamos
Alex admittedly hadn't been the best as of late with keeping up with his brother but he had full intentions this morning on annoying the absolute shit out of him. It was pretty much his most important job as a younger sibling and Amos had gotten way too long of a break from it because of Alex's own laziness. It had absolutely nothing to do with the fact that he missed his brother, no, he was a younger brother! He had a responsibility to annoy Amos as much as humanely possible, a responsibility he was slacking on.
As he walked into the great hall instead of taking a seat at the hufflepuff table like he usually would he went right to the gryffindor table, sitting across from his brother but not before stealing a piece of toast directly from his plate with a grin, completely ignoring the giant serving of it right next to him, taking a bite out of it before his brother could even say anything. "Good morning," he said, his tone cheery as he feigned innocence.

“There’s a first time for everything,” Sybill continued poking fun at. She didn’t know Amos very well but did know that he prided himself on being the life of the party wherever he went. She found herself enjoying giving him a hard time. It was surprising. It was effortless and something Sybill wasn’t used to. She liked it more than she had expected. How wonderful.
“Do you think you could ever be the minority? You seem to enjoy the spotlight, yeah?” Sybill asked, learning about her new friend. “There’s nothing wrong with the spotlight either but it must be exhausting. At least the minority has the time to rest — usually.” Truth was that even the minority — well, Sybill’s version of the minority — was filled with studying and, as embarrassing as it was to admit, fitting in. That was also exhausting. But it was true that she could go to her single room, lay down and just breathe, even if only for a few moments. “I’m glad you don’t underestimate the minority. So many do.” She said, not in quite a whisper, but quieter than she had been.
She shook it off. She was there to hand a good time and a good time she was having. “Let’s see. Are you a star? You obviously think so,” she reached her hand to her chin in thought. “If you want to be a star and achieve the status I’m not one to take it from you, star boy,” she smiled as she looked at him, a twinkle in her eye.
“Oh,” this time it was a whisper, “I suppose some stars take time to shine but that Sybill star has been dormant for some time now.” Sybill said looking up to her star, a small but hopeful smile on her face. “I hope she shines soon.”
@diggoryxamos
"Hey now, i've never been accused of cramping anyone's style, but yes i'm down as long as stop insulting my ego, yeah?" Amos teased. He knew she was just messing with him and well he certainly wouldn't be against spending more time with Sybill. This had been unexpected but fun. It was easy with Sybill somehow.
"Nothing wrong with been in the minority of something" he shrugged. Though he spent his whole life trying to appeal to the popular, he tended to prefer people who went against the grain. Amos couldn't say he did that himself. After all he was the Quidditch Captain, but he had never and would never look down on people that were considered odd or weird. He'd found that it was often ignorance that led to people being given those labels anyway. Amos hated the way that hatred for muggleborns was rising in the community, it was becoming hard to ignore, but he had no idea what he could do about it, other than speak up for people.
Amos chuckled lightly at her reaction. "It seems a perfectly good choice thank you, am I not a star?" he raised his eyebrows at her in a challenge. He softened as she continued. "I mean i've heard a little about lightspeed" he turned to face her as she replied, resting his face on his palm "sounds to me that it's just that it'll take people longer to see it's real shine."

To say that Penelope had been thrilled by the announcement of the yule ball, the visit of the Ilvermorny students, and the accompanying quidditch match would have been an understatement. In fact, the witch might argue said thing would have been the understatement of the century. Among all the twists and turns life had taken it was nice to be able to relax and actually focus on something that brought joy. "I need the perfect dress. I'm not settling for anything less." Penelope had been staring at the windows of the shop for what felt like minutes, only turning to inform her friend of the choice made regarding the quality of her dress.
With a calculated spin she turned back, admiring the yellow dress within the window's display. "But not that one. I'm not in the mood for yellow. I may end up looking like a canary." Without even bothering to think much she moved, linking her arm with that of Amos. "What will you be wearing?" It was almost funny how easy this fast, how normal it felt to simply joke about things with the other Gryffindor.

“Never too busy?” Sybill could feel her cheeks flush. No one had ever said anything so kind. Normally people couldn’t get away from her quick enough. She knew she was a lot to handle but was never anything but herself. That included with Amos, he just saw a different side of her. Maybe if she was that way with everyone she would have more friends but that’s not how she operated no matter how she tried. She wasn’t ashamed but there was some loneliness. However, Amos made her forget that with every word he ever said to her.
“Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to assume — she’s lovely, I couldn’t help but think that you would want someone like her,” Sybill blinked, “but I’m so glad to hear you have someone so close to attend such events with. Quite important indeed.” She nodded, “As for me, I make my own company,” she smiled.
Sybill took in a deep breath. “I’m not even sure what it means to have you take the lead,” she bit her lip. “I never had dance classes. Or danced with to anyone really.” Her lips went crooked and leaned in, whispering, “Where do I put my hands?”
@diggoryxamos
"I'm never too busy for you Sybill" he smiled softly. She wasn't wrong per se. Amos was usually in high demand, but then he could always make time for people he genuinely liked, and Sybill had definitely become one of those people "Penelope?" Amos looked at her confused, he didn't expect Sybill to be one to listen to the idol gossip about them that had been happening for years. Something Amos mainly just ignored. "I honestly don't think she could care less" he chuckled, amused. It was a completely honest answer "we're not here as that kind of date- she's just been my friend since forever- wouldn't want to go to something like this with some I didn't trust and stuff"
"I'm sure I can work with that" Amos was quietly confident of his dance skills, having been taught a range of formal dances when he was younger. "As long as you're happy to let me lead that is." He pulled Sybill onto the main dance floor, "May I?" he asked, checking before he placed his hand on her waist.

Penelope had observed his every move with curiosity, brows raised in surprise at the gesture. "My, aren't you full of surprises today?" Her eyes scanned the flute of champagne within her hands with a soft look of appreciation. It certainly felt a bit nicer to know that at least in this regard they could all act their age, albeit with some external help. "And it's not even a bad one at that. This is quite nice." Her face left no doubt about how thoroughly impressed she was, grateful all the same. The witch shifted, turning to glance at the dance floor. All the way across to the other side of the, yet mostly in the middle, people were spinning and having the best of times. There was no denying that it felt her with joy, an early feeling of Christmas settling within her. Honestly, it always had been her favorite holiday, one that she had a soft spot for no matter what.
The brunette snapped back around. "Food or dancing?" It was bizarre to see him acting like this, not having dashed off yet like so many times. Perhaps the fact that it had become such a norm made it feel almost too odd to be true. "I think we can dance. There's no need to have food when we've barely moved an inch. Mind you, getting ready may have taken its time but that is hardly reason to call for a resupply of energy." There was certain confusion over the fact that she'd not even expected to dance with him. Without much hesitation her hand was held out, offered for him to take. "Well, lets put all those lessons to use. Can't have my parents think they were absolutely for nothing." - @diggoryxamos
"A full fairy tale princess it seems- once again." Amos wasn't used to seeing Penn like this. It wasn't bad thing, not one bit, it was just new. He liked that she felt confident this evening. In fact, he hoped she continued to feel this way more often, she absolutely deserved to. "Pftt, no, the only predictable thing is you bringing me a new plant each month". It was amusing watching her lead for once, and Amos decided to go with it. "Hopefully at least some of those dances are reserved for me" he teased as he playfully bumped her with the side of his arm "after you Miss Borgin"
***
"Did i specifically learn a charm to turn water into champagne just for this evening? yes. are you thanking me for it? i'm going to assume also yes" Amos boasted as he handed Penn a flute of champagne. He had taken a sip from his own before bringing the drinks to her, just to make sure the charm had worked properly. Friend date it might be but Amos intended to be attentive this evening. He knew Penn well enough to know she would want to fully experience an event like this. Whilst he couldn't fit the bill for her romantically he could at least be a good date. He was determined to make sure his friend had a great evening. "Do you want to get some food, or should we dance first?"

The choice of costume had been almost too easy. From the very moment that Amos had introduced fairy tales to her there'd been a certain fascination. Whereas muggles considered the tales to be intended for children, there was an art to them and as she'd grown up a truth within them that was darker. It made for an interesting twist, certainly. However lucky she'd been to find someone who'd go along with her costume idea. No matter how closer her and Amos were, the witch did not dare ask her friend to match costumes with her. There were things she'd always avoid simply to put the friendship first.
The one thing Penelope could not have anticipated, though, was the way he'd sneak up. The words, a whisper in her ear caused a shiver to run down her spine. Where normally she'd have been able to suppress things, this time all she could so was whirl around and pretend that it was all shock before a joke slipped past her lips. "Careful," Her eyes scanned his costume. "you might make someone swoon. I suppose that's the intention, hm?" She could all but chuckle. Never had she thought Amos would manage to catch her off guard like this. "As if you had to ask. You know I can't exactly say no to you." Back in control of herself, Penelope managed the usual smirk. "Come on, don't want to be late." - @diggoryxamos

Amos had taken a lot of time in choosing the specifics of his outfit despite how simple it was. But that was the beauty, making it look that simple, that easily pulled off. He stared at his new fangs in the mirror a few times, getting used to the look. It was fun, unusual but fun. Amos had even put on some makeup around his eyes to really complete the gothic look he was going for. After fighting to get on the tight leather trousers he finally made his way down to where he'd agreed to meet Penn.
She was already there when he arrived. He smiled at her costume. Snow White seemed fitting for her somehow. She hadn't spotted him yet so he decided to surprise her, changing his path so that he approach from behind. "Well hello princess" he whispered into her ear before whipping round to stand in front of her. Amos' energy levels were even higher than usual and he was in an especially mischievous mood. "Mind if I have a bite?" he flashed his fangs at her and leaned in towards her neck before swerving at the last minute, grabbing an apple out of her basket and taking a bite.

Alex wasn't a jumpy person by any means, he was however, startled when Amos came up behind him and threw and arm around him, it wore off quickly though, only to be replaced with a wide grin at the compliment. He didn't particularly care about gaining anyones approval, however, when it came to his brother, he always felt proudest when Amos was proud of him. "So do you," he complimented back "I'd say we're the best dressed siblings here, easily" he boasted proudly, his grin getting even wider when Amos asked about his date. "Good! Really good, actually, I didn't-honestly, man, I thought she hated me but shes just-Shes wonderful, I'm lucky. I'm really lucky." So what if he was gushing a bit? It was his brother he was speaking to, if he could gush about a girl to anyone it would be his brother. "what about you? You came with Penny didn't you?"

Amos was always proud of Alex, but there was something about seeing Alex laughing happily with his date that made Amos' heart feel warm. In certain ways Amos thought that Alex had his shit together more than he did. Amos might be the eldest brother but he didn't always feel like it. As Amos walked back from the drinks table, he noticed that Alex was stood on his own. He approached him from behind, throwing his arm casually over his shoulder. "Looking dapper little bro" Amos meant it too, if there was one thing you could say about the Diggory siblings it was that they had style. "How's the date going?" Amos loved romance, he just knew it wasn't for him, so instead he enjoyed living vicariously through others.

Alex wasn't one to skip breakfast, ever, really. Or any meal for that matter. Did it tend to make him late for his classes? Yes. Did he once even slightly care about that fact? No. Classes in general were so far from his main priority and food was much closer to the top. There were very few things that would have pulled him away from heading into the great hall for breakfast but his brother was one of them. His face broke out into a grin at the compliment, the festival had been a blast if only because of how much he had managed to terrorize the village. "Honestly mate, I don't know why we use wands. Arrows are so much better." Sure, Alex had charmed the arrows, but it was still much more fun than casting boring old spells.

Who: @alexdiggory Where: outside the great hall after lunch
Amos was still tucking into a doughnut as he left the great hall. The feast today had been particularly good and it had boosted his mood. Thant and this mornings Quidditch practice had been fantastic. Amos was already super proud of his team this year. They were going to win the tournament this year, he already knew it. Maybe that was cocky, he didn't care and well it wouldn't be the first time Amos has been excused of being over confident. He couldn't wait to play an actual match, he was basically itching for it. There was nothing like the adrenaline rush of playing a Quidditch match. Well maybe one thing, but that could come with complications. "Oi" Amos shouted out as he saw Alex "heard you were terrorising the whole of Hogsmeade at the festival, well done mate- really keeping the Diggory legacy going with that one."
