Y'ever notice how they keep throwing in a tamer card that breaks up the group? The hell is Ruli doing in there.
I find it interesting that they used the Japanese names for Xros Wars characters despite there being an English dub. I suppose because the English dub was never completed? I'm not complaining - I think changing it to "Fusion" was stupid.

Digimon Fusion - Episode 10
This episode looked really good, visuals and animation-wise. Maybe because we've hit the 10 episode milestone? We also got a crumb of Kiriha & Taiki relationship building and Taiki backstory.
Notes:
Was this episode supposed to be a King Arthur reference? It's the Lake Zone and there's a bunch of knights (and a princess)? The lake zone had a slightly more memorable design to me than the others. I liked the barcode auroras
Bastemon's design just felt pandering to me, like that one Sonic movie that has a random cat girl in it. I also don't really like cheetah print, so her outfit doesn't do it for me. Bastemon is a cool name though (Bastet inspired).
The PawnChessmon with the Knightmon leader were a cute combo
IceDevimon, yet again, has a Christopher Walken voice in the dub lol. They really committed to that bit. It definitely makes the boring villains of the week more entertaining.
The camera stayed on Lilithmon's boobs for a weirdly long time for a kids show. I wonder if that awakened anyone lol (censored in the dub, of course). I don't really know how I feel about her yet. She seems kind of over-designed
My fujo-radar went off in the scene where Taiki was like "there's just something about him" (when referring to Kiriha). Somebody out there ships it
I was kind of annoyed when they brought up digi noir again. First of all...why is it called that? Second, are they just too lazy to animate other foods? Foods that actually look good? Tsk tsk
I thought Taiki's childhood trauma was a decent look into why he is the way he is. The way they showed baby him crying in the rain was very cheesy and cliche though (cue the sad Naruto music).
#NotMyMetalGreymon First of all, we're fusing things and naming it after already existing digivolutions now? Weird. Second, that thing is fugly. (The robot voice was kind of fun though).
Whenever I see Baalmon I think of Sheik from Zelda
(I'm sure this is a very obvious comparison).
When Lilithmon was like "time to use...him!" I was like goddammit not another test tube digimon -_- but then they cut it off before the reveal, so I don't know if that's really where this is going.

9 Novels that shaped my personality
I was tagged in this post HERE by my dear friend @m34gs!! Thank you so much for this tag! I'm really excited to do this one!
However, before I start I'm laying down ground rules:
Only novels on this list. No manga. Maybe later I'll do a manga one for fun.
These are all my opinion. I'm not here to say they're the best books in the world. Don't like them? I don't care. I don't want to hear it.
I'm adding explanations to all of these.
None of these are in any "best book" order.
Let's get started! Rest is under a cut because this will be long.
We start with the most obvious book choice, at least to those who know me in real life, Alice in Wonderland. It's only now as an adult I realize how much of this book has shaped my overall likes in media.
Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll
The first and most obvious point: this book is an isekai and more specifically the more old fashioned one. Modern day audiences most likely automatically think of anime/manga and series like SAO that have either game mechanics, male power fantasies, and harems.
However, Alice in Wonderland's main selling point is the world Alice is teleported to. It's the setting and characters within Wonderland that have captured imaginations and hearts for decades, not necessarily Alice the character. Yes, she's important, but the fantasy comes from exploring a new, nonsensical world. There is a bit of danger but nothing to suggest Alice will be seriously harmed.
When I look to other media I adore such as Spirited Away (Studio Ghibli) or the Digimon franchise (specifically Adventure) I see the strong thread of common likes that links everything together. Truly, this book is probably the one that shaped me the most
Moving along, we get to Inkheart, which is my favourite book in the Trilogy. I cannot begin to tell you how obsessed with this book I was as a child. I think this book is my most read childhood book ever.
2. Inkheart by Cornelia Funke
The main draw of this book to me is the magical ability Mo, the father, has. Who hasn't imagined the ability to speak to your favourite characters or take items from our favourite books?
Yet, what this series does is throw an existential crisis into the mix but frame it for children. The problem Dustfinger and other characters read out of their stories is a complex one, but it's never written in a way that talks over or down to a child.
That's why this story resonates with me and to this day. This is probably why I'm such a huge fan of series with magic but with consequences or drawbacks.
3. The Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud
The part of this book that influenced me is how, when I was a child, it introduced the use of footnotes in novels. Bartimaeus's internal commentary being shoved into the footnotes was a brilliant move on the writer. It made child me feel very smart when I knew to follow the footnote even if I was reading in the middle of the page.
Also, the internal commentary is hilarious. It also holds up. I reread this book over the summer and still found myself drawn to Bartimaeus's personality and character.
This series truly is fun and in a way it's magical Britain Kuroshitsuji because Nathaniel has so many similarities to Ciel it isn't even funny.
I wrote the first book's title because that's the one everyone knows, but truly my favourite book in this series is the second book, Eldest.
4. Eragon (+series) by Christopher Paolini
As an adult I now see that this series truly is magical middle earth Star Wars and has a bunch of cliches and tropes lifted from the first Trilogy. Also, some lifted from LOTR, but I digress because teenage me didn't know that. This is because teenage me (and me of today) still hasn't watched the original Star Wars trilogy. Hold your shocked gasps and fainting.
Anyways, the reason this book series is on the list is because of the second book: Eldest. What I love the best about this book is how we shifted to following Eragon's cousin, Roran. This was the first time as a reader I'd ever experienced a true "outsider's POV". I still remember how excited I was when the book finally caught up to Eragon and we could see in Roran's perspective the character his cousin was slowly changing to.
This is probably why some of my current favourite media such as Anohana or The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle resonate so strongly in me. I'm a big sucker for stories that have multiple perspectives that weave together it seems.
5. What Happened to Lani Garver by Carol Plum Ucci
To this day, out of all the books on this list, I think about this one the most. The main idea of "floating angels" or supernatural angelic beings that go around on earth helping humans out has stuck in my brain for decades.
What I love most about the idea is the book never outright states if Lani truly was an angel. That ambiguity fascinates me because I think about how regardless if I think Lani is an angel or not, the book's core message is kindness. It urges us to be kind and help others out. To always try to lend a helping hand. To include regardless of differences. That's the kind of world the book calls us to foster and one I hope I can create.
I don't like historical fiction books. However, this book is an exception. I think the reason why I like this book so much is while it's set in one of the most pivotal moments of human history, there is a message of hope.
6. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
I also like how it highlights just how important books and human literature is for us as a society. And as someone who loves reading, this naturally resonated with young me.
It's hard for me to pinpoint why I like this book so much. I think it's because it's such a strong character driven story. I remember being captivated by this book and rereading it several times.
7. Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden
The book having strong Japanese cultural roots and a glimpse into its history is a fact that doesn't hurt it. Clearly, as an anime lover, I'd be drawn to a book with Japan as the setting.
I also think this book was one of my first real "adult" books I ever read on my own after I graduated high school. That made me feel grown up and mature for sure.
And again, clearly I'm a big character driven person when it comes to picking out stories.
8. The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater
I didn't read this series until later in life, but that doesn't mean it wasn't impactful. What this series did for me above all the others was it influenced my style of writing. Out of the many things I adore about this series I love the witty humour and how the character dialogue/interactions are written.
The story is also great and I am in love with how magic is implemented into the series. Again, as I said before, I'm a big sucker for stories with consequences to their magic.
9. Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
Yeah, I know, not a shocking pick. By far this book is my most recent favourite book.
What I love about this book is how human both Achilles and Patroclus are. I am always a sucker for doomed gay loves (see me screaming about Madoka Magica all the time).
But more importantly the way the tragedy was written has rewired my brain chemistry. There are lines in this book that haunt me all the time. I cannot get them out of my mind. I cannot stop wanting to scream about how perfect this story tells Achilles and Patroclus's love.
There is a reason why people take lines from this book and put it over their favourite doomed gay ships. (Looking at you, Satosugu.)
And there you have it! My top nine stories that shaped my personality! I hope you all like this list. I'm tagged @shreedle @someobscurereference and @a-little-harmed-shinra! Have fun friends if you want to do this!

Whoops, I'm missing Deckerdramon. Anyway.
As with every Digimon anime, Digimon Xros Wars has its cool, detached blue boy. This time, it's Kiriha Aonuma who literally has "blue" in his name. He's mean to his Digimon but his hair is nice and he has the coolest Greymon so we forgive him.
While Taiki is leader of Xros Heart, Kiriha leads rival faction Blue Flare, until he doesn't anymore.

For the fanfic q game!
4. what is the plot bunny you’ve been carrying for the longest? optional bonus question: do you ever wonder why you haven’t written it yet and experience deep existential dread?
48. do you reread your own stories?
55. do you have any abandoned WIP’s? What made you abandon them?
65. what is your favourite title for a fic you’ve written?
88. if you could have another author write your wip for you (bc we all dream of this occasionally), who would it be?
Heeyyyyy, sorry it's been so long since you submitted this and I got around to answering.
-Rhuben
Ask Game for Fanfic Writers
- 4. what is the plot bunny you’ve been carrying for the longest? - That's a bit of a loaded question because I come up with plot bunnies a lot, haha. I'd say it's either my Digimon fic idea (still not fully fleshed out) that involves expanding the Daemon Corps arc from season 2, or my SSX 3 fanfic idea where a wakeboarder gets a wild card spot into the SSX circuit.
I don't really experience dread with this. I'm aware I really only work on this when I usually fall down a rabbit hole of Digimon conversations with Riley @ceruleanmusings and @angelstellaluna OR I just get the urge to play SSX 3 again and I get hooked on it! I wind up not working on them because I can just as quickly fall out of my interest in it.
48. do you reread your own stories? - Yes, I do re-read my own stories. A lot of the time it's because I've completely forgotten what my plan was for the next chapter and I need the reminder of what I had planned next. Sometimes, I just like what I have and want to re-read. Sometimes it's to find what a commenter has referenced and I wind up finding some foreshadowing and hints I didn't even realize I had in there, haha
55. do you have any abandoned WIP’s? What made you abandon them? - Yes. Both published on FFN and unpublished. Simply put, my intense focus on the fandom quickly wanes. Whether that's just because my excitement for it dropped due to real life stuff, or I didn't get the kind of feedback I thought I'd get (though I do write for myself), a shiny new fandom has pulled my focus (<- This happens the most)
65. what is your favourite title for a fic you’ve written? - Both for Big Time Rush fanfics: "Silent Pages, Loud Words" or a WIP title "Unplugged, Yet Amplified." They kind of go hand in hand though the plots have nothing to do with each other, but I just love the imagery with it.
88. if you could have another author write your wip for you (bc we all dream of this occasionally), who would it be? - I'd have a hard time letting anyone write my babies, but drama/angst wise, Christopher Pike by for any of my comic/action/adventure based stuff, then Kami Garcia (who wrote the "Beast Boy Loves Raven" YA graphic novel) or Paul Dini who wrote my favorite "Zatanna" comics.

Why does Icedevimon get a Christopher Walken impersonation in the Digimon dub?
Why did YuGiOh dub make that random elephant Arnold Schwarzenegger?
Why is Slayer given a Sean Connery impression in the Guilty Gear dub?
Why is Heimdal literally just Dennis Reynolds in God of War 2?
and why is Gammel doing John Mauleny in the Unicorn Overlord dub?
These are questions I'll probably never get an answer to
... but they sure do keep me up at night

Digimon Frontier - Episode 36
What an odd episode. It was a 50-50 normal-filler split which I feel was awkward and disrupted the pacing. Especially if they're just going to go back to fighting Cherubimon after this, inserting a filler fight at this point feels like egregious padding. The fact that they tried to give IceDevimon, a guy who was defeated in half an episode, lore was pretty eye roll worthy. I guess I'm grateful he had slightly more personality than the usual villain of the week though.
Notes:
"Machinegun destroyer" is a pretty dumb attack name, but I feel like they made up for it with "starlight velocity."
I was glad to see KaiserGreymon and MagnaGarurumon in action, visually their attacks were neat (damn those names are long, maybe I should just call them KG and MG lol)
The rest of the gang being reduced to cheerleaders was pretty funny.
They gave IceDevimon a Christopher Walken voice in the dub...wtf. That's like the least fitting voice they could have gone with. (Might as well spice up boring filler I guess!)
Junpei calling IceDevimon a pervert was a surprise lol. Of course that line was completely cut from the dub. (Although Izumi calls him a weirdo, which is close enough).
The idea that they accidentally unleashed IceDevimon by destroying Cherubimon's hideout at least gave him a reason to be there...still felt shoehorned in tho
For part of the episode I was distracted by the fact that IceDevimon's pants are the same color as his skin. His butt is pretty defined, so for a second I thought he was just naked lol. Digimon designs are...something else. (All his belts are very Final Fantasy)
I felt like the close up and soft lighting they did on Koji at the end there was giving romance vibes, not brotherly vibes (I do not ship the twins, the shot just looked like a POV shot from a shoujo anime or something lol).
Check out Koji's tiny arm in my last screenshot lol. Anatomy fail.
At this point, the Cherubimon stuff is starting to just feel dragged out. Maybe they'll justify it somehow, IDK.

Sonic the Oz-Hog Act 8/12: Journey's End!
Sonic Universe issue 16 AU Publication Date: 6th August 2010 Price: $6.50

(Alternate title: 'A Farewell to Khans!'.)
Sixteen. Six. Teen. Siiiiiiixteeeeen. A number by all rights like any other, yet harbors more than a few connotations in life. Songs written and movies made have abounded over the decades in dedication to this number. It can mark exciting new beginnings, a (at least theoretically) responsible coming of age, a formal debut ready to tackle the more "mature" world of driving cars and leaving school in favour of the local workforce. Or maybe not. The author of these posts can't remember their sixteenth birthday beyond being pretty sure it happened, it rained, and there was a new Transformers action figure involved.
But when it came to Aussies following their favourite hedgehog's monthly tri-coloured triumphs, sixteen marked a bitter end.
In comparison to the turmoil of 2010's political sphere, Sonic and his freedom fighting buddies' year-long battle against the Iron Dominion's wrath was a cakewalk. Having swept to power in November 2007 despite the best efforts of conservative media and racist fake pamphlets, the time had come for Kevin Rudd to resign. Labor's three year tenure of poll-topping high highs and scandalous low lows painted a divisive picture, and with the prospect of losing power on the back of a fatal home insulation program and increased taxes for mining non-renewables, Julia Gillard stepped up unopposed to succeed him on 24th June. Rudd agreed on 6th August to stay onboard for support, and within two weeks of this issue's publication, a federal election saw Gillard narrowly retain her mantle as Australia's first female Prime Minister.
Music lovers thrummed away to manufactured relationship angst of Eminem and Rihanna's collaboration Love the Way You Lie, which was halfway through its six week domination of the billboard charts. Christopher Nolan's brain-bender Inception had enjoyed its own three weeks leading the local box office, until Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg briefly blasted their way to the top in The Other Guys.
The glory days of analogue morning toon-tainment for kids were by this point faded memories. Having half an hour sliced off its slot beginning New Year's Day 2010, Toasted TV limped itself along offering viewers that day repeats of Huntik: Secrets & Seekers and Dinosaur King. The product of networks pushing for breakfast news programs and set top boxes becoming more prevalent (i.e. affordable) meant the future of children's television was well on its way to being all digital. Channel Seven's subsidiary 7TWO served up repeats of Avenger Penguins, Digimon Data Squad, Handy Manny and Power Rangers Jungle Fury. Not to be outclassed, Channel Nine's newly-minted 9GO! kicked off the day with new Out of Jimmy's Head before its own repeat cavalcade of Class of 3000, Chowder, Legion of Super Heroes, Ben 10, The Flintstones and The Jetsons.
Another far cry from the days of yore were fan reviews. Forums, groups and pages come and go. The regulars over at Sonic Stadium all but ignored the issue and instead focused on whether Mighty and Ray would get their own SegaSonic Arcade adaptation, while gushing over the impending Tails Adventure arc. Sonic HQ's once juggernaut now dustbowl Knothole Village had little to say beyond base pleasantries, as did PorpoiseMuffins' Saturday Morning Sonic message board.
For those hoping to dig deep into the comic proper, Ian Flynn's forum truly put the "King" in "BumbleKing". By that point in its life a thriving superpower, after 5 days and over 15 pages of speculation, residents of Archie Sonic's biggest watering hole considered it "without a doubt my favorite of the arc. It's mostly expostition with more or less no action but what exposition!" The good times rolled with "Good wrap-up to this arc in an arc. I enjoyed it. I liked Espio's backstory; thought it was handled well." and "I've said it before I'll say it again Ian gets Sonic's personality so right my favorite line has to be "'Careful'? So many foreign words today!" why cant SEGA write him like that.". Forum goers were excited to share their future speculations, notably the prospect of one character being the first in a series which, like Dimitri being the latest in a line of Enerjaks, began life as a fan theory shared on message boards during the late-90's.
Yet while fandom faces and places can change as time marches on, attitudes remain engrained. Even if they've never seen the character or read a comic, some people can (and will) criticize them, ranging from "not being accurate to other source material" or that incredibly tired buzzword of dismissing the series as "weird". When pressed to consider the extensive laundry list of Archie Sonic material going under the hammer of fickle fans, it's tough topping the decades of derision aimed at Mobius' own cybernetic simian, Monkey Khan.
The amalgamation of late writer/artist Frank Strom's admiration for Chinese literature hero Sun Wukong, Japanese actors in rubber monster suits, and 1970's Hong Kong martial art films, Khan found himself shackled among the swelling ranks of Geoffrey St. John, Nate Morgan and Mina Mongoose in the upper echelons of Archie Sonic's most reviled characters. Case in point, fans quickly booted up their modems as early as November 1997 to voice their displeasure online. Some remained optimistic, citing Khan "looks simply like a vessel for spouting chiche's and poor dialogue, but there's opportunity to make him more interesting (and more vital) to the story." Others took offence to the character's ancient roots, wondering if the coincidence "probably is, since this issue didn't seem very well thought out. If it was a reference, that would be the only excuse for the piece of Mass-Produced Crud".
As the years rolled on and Khan made a handful more cameos, this fan mentality never truly shook off. "I have come to NOT STAND Monkey Khan AND Frank Stroms writing and drawing skills…MK has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH SONIC THE HEDGEHOG AND IF THE EDITOR HAD ANY SENSE HE'D FIRE STROM. The guy has done NOTHING to show that he can even write a Sonic story." readers openly whined. "it really ticks me off that Frank Strom's version of the Monkey King was so poor… in fact, I bet he hasn't heard of MK in his life, but rather, Dragon Ball. smirk. Frank Strom is probably the worst Archie-Sonic writer I've ever seen, with the possible exception of 75% of Mike Gallagher's works.". They compared Khan to the worst type of wish-fulfilment self-insert, and Strom himself often written into fanfics as a target of obsessive mockery. Even the efforts of Ian Flynn to flesh out his character during 2009-10 (complete with hatred lampshade on the first page of issue 203) came across mixed, further fueled at a time when Archie Comics openly baited fans into a staggeringly pointless shipping war.
Hm. Seeing how Khan, Geoffrey, Mina and Nate were frequently criticized for stealing the spotlights of Sonic, Antoine, Sally and Rotor respectively, maybe there's an alternate universe where someone capitalized of this and united them to strike out in their own team. It would certainly make for quite the fanfic. But enough digressing.
There's a bittersweet irony here. Locals who loathed Monkey Khan's exploits and hoped to see the back of him once and for all were about to get their wish. A World Under Constant Vigil marked the last appearance Khan would make in a starring role, one which in a fantastical coincidence was published exactly on Frank Strom's 46th birthday. Further blurring the lines between a true case of "Sixteen Khandles" and the Monkey's Paw myth, Sonic Universe issue 16 would ultimately be the final comic released at Australian retail.
After 17 years of constantly easily accessible comics, time was up. Issue 211 and Universe 14 were the last to be sold at retail for $5.50, a price increase from $4.95 which began with issue 198. The move to fancy new glossy paper, an arguably remarked improvement which brought the comic's quality closer in line with the free Bionicle, HeroScape, The Batman and Teen Titans centerpiece of 2005-6 meant coughing up another dollar. Was it this move to $6.50 a copy that made the bean counters at Gordon and Gotch drop the title? Were they too frustrated by enduring the excessive length of Iron Queen's tenure? Was it the moonlit kiss and chest stroking between Sally and Khan in issue 212 that broke the camel's back? Guess fans will never know, for when the writer of these posts questioned said distributors at the time, they responded curtly that both Sonic titles "have now ceased and are no longer in production". So much for that.
As anyone who's kept up with these will know, the story of Archie Sonic in Australia was far from being all over. It's hard to keep a good high speed hero down, and one day he shall come back. Yes, he shall come back. Until then, there must be no regrets, no tears, no anxieties. Just go forward in all your beliefs, and prove to Sonic that he is not mistaken in his.
Yet it would be a long, pained fifteen months before Aussies saw the blue blur triumphantly return to newsagent shelves.
