The tight writing in Gravity Falls just gets crazier and crazier because Alex Hirsch in the director’s commentary of Dipper & Mabel vs. the Future (11:25) says:
“Ford sees Dipper as someone who’s special like himself. That’s Ford’s great flaw, is arrogance. Is he believes that there’s special people, and everyone else. That human attachments are actually weaknesses. And the song and dance that he’s giving Dipper right now, is the song and dance that he gave McGucket, back when they were younger… ‘You and me are different, we’re better than everyone else. We have a path that no one else can understand, and only us can do this.’ It’s a very seductive idea for Dipper… Dipper is a smart kid, but Ford’s projecting. Ford loves Dipper because he sees someone who’ll tell him ‘yes’ to everything. Who’ll never challenge him, who’ll do a really insane dangerous mission.”
I CAN’T BE THE ONLY ONE WHO’S SEEING THE BILL -> FORD -> DIPPER PIPELINE HERE. YOU CAN JUST REPLACE THE NAMES IN THE ABOVE QUOTE. I’M GOING INSANE.
Gravity Falls and the cycle of “Hey, person who feels outcast from your society like me, you’re special, fuck human connection, join me and be something great!”
I had this idea for a little Gravity Falls AMV after hearing this song a few days ago. I think it works pretty well with the tone of Dipper and Mabel vs the Future; IMO still the show's most difficult and emotional episode to watch (minus the finale of course, lol)

Talk about a downer post to make right after I announce that me and Hana interviewed Alex Hirsch, lmao!
Sock Opera: In an attempt to impress a local puppeteer, Mabel decides to put on a huge sock puppet rock opera, but her show goes awry when Dipper's drive to uncover journal secrets leads to a supernatural disaster.
Dipper And Mabel vs The Future: Mabel makes plans for her and Dipper's 13th birthday party, while Dipper searches below the town to find its most surprising secret.
As today's the 7th anniversary of Dipper and Mabel Vs The Future first airing, let me remind you all that in the Gravity Falls box set, Alex Hirsch revealed that there was a cut scene in which Mabel was to learn one more major heartbreak, before the final big one that Dipper would give her!
Additionally, here's a cut storyboard from the episode, made by Dana Terrace:
As Mabel plan her and Dipper’s Birthday Party at the End of Summer, she notices the hard truth of being a teenager when trying to invite her friends, while Dipper tag along with Ford to learn something shocking below the town. “Dipper and Mabel vs. The Future” premiered on this day, 8 Years Ago.
pains me to see people say that stan's treatment of dipper is because of ford when the show quite literally states that dipper reminds stan of himself.
im not saying that dipper doesn't mirror ford (cause he does), but it doesn't make sense that stan would try to "toughen up" dipper if he thought that was what ford needed. stan was always the protective twin out of the pair (similarly how dipper is to mabel), and never in the show is it implied that stan thought ford just needed to swing a few punches to stop bullies. but he thinks that's what he and dipper need.
stan is a character who believes he's tried and failed to "earn" the love of family, so he doesn't want dipper down that same route. he doesn't like the aspects of himself he sees in dipper. he's trying to teach dipper to fight back so dipper doesn't end up like him: alone, beat down, and hated. and, of course, we know this line of thinking is flawed—neither of them need to earn love—but that's an analysis for another day.
