A$AP Rocky - Testing (2018) Ive never been a huge fan of Asap Rocky, although I do enjoy a few of his songs quite a lot. I just haven't found a body of work by him that I've enjoyed all the way through yet. This new Testing album starts off great. It has a cool experimentsl best and books me in. The only grips about track 1 would be the line where be claims to be in the top 10. I hate when rappers claim to be top 10, especially when I can think of 10 other rappers on the spot that deserve it more. Track 2 was ok, it had nice flows and cool bassy beat. Track 3 was ok as well, nothing really bad about It, it just didn't appeal to me lyrically, again the best was ok. One thing I noticed in this song was a line where he says he doesn't care about a list, yet just 2 tracks ago he was claiming he's top 10... so he's already contradicting himself. Now here's where the album get a bad. From track 4 on it got worse and worse and worse. TRACKS were uninspired, uncharismatic, lots of unnecessary beat switches attempting to come off experimental, boring/weightless bars, cheap autotune... there wasn't an enjoyable moment until about track 13. "Changes". It had some good bars and a nice message. It's possible my judgement may be cloudy after listening to a pile of terrible tracks in a row. Maybe hearing a just Okay track after going through a ton or bad tracks made the Okay track sound better. What can I say about track 14? "Black Tux, White collar"? It barely adds anything at this point. This far into the album I'm just wanting it to end. The final track Featuring Frank Ocean was actually not bad. It was refreshing hearing Frank at the end of this disaster of an album. Overall This album was very dissapointing. It was a real exhausting struggle trying to get all the way through. There were about 4 tracks out of 15 I somewhat enjoyed. I litterally enjoyed more tracks on Pusha T's 7 track album. I'm giving Testing a 3/10 And I feel somewhat generious giving it that.
