i should offer a very pedantic correction here:

The problem isn't coming from the drivethruRPG company, OneBookShelf. Their other sites - most notably DTRPG - host plenty of content far more risque than curse of hearts. OBS hosts actual erotic games, quite graphic horror, and plenty of extremely political stuff. Indeed, in the industry, OBS is pretty notorious for their unwillingness to pull even extremely offensive content.

For example, despite extensive controversy DrivethruRPG still hosts 'Black Tokyo', a game whose blurb states:

Black Tokyo focuses on one particular sub-genre of Hentai: supernatural horror and bondage.

You can basically publish whatever the fuck you want on Drivethru, to the extent that getting them to remove actual hate-speech (hi, darrick!) has been like pulling teeth.

Now, both Curse of Hearts and Eat The Rich weren't hosted on dtrpg itself, they were hosted on DMsGuild. DMsGuild is a joint venture; a DTRPG-style store-front for third party D&D content. It's operated in conjunction with WotC, and it has far, far more stringent rules than DTRPG. These rules aren't drivethru's rules, they were a requirement from Wizards of the Coast.

We know this, because we have the response from WotC where they talk about how they pulled Curse of Hearts.

DrivethruRPG will cheerfully let you be as gay and slutty and graphic as you want. It is specifically Wizards of the Coast - the publishers of D&D - that have the anti-gay thing going on.

(WotC also very much does not try to pretend DMsGuild doesn't exist, since: 1) they get a significant cut of all sales on DMsG, meaning publishers on there make far less 2) they have introduced restrictions on what can be published on DMsG that don't exist on other OBS storefronts 3) contractually, there's an exclusivity clause on DMsG - your forbidden from publishing anything you put on DMsG on any other site)

Incidentally, Eat The Rich was also initially published on DMsGuild, and it was again WotC's rules that got it pulled. An edited version with all the DnD specific bits removed is now hosted on DTRPG.

Frankly, if you're friends with Oliver Darkshire, I'd expect you to get the basic facts of the situation correct. Basically nothing in your post was true (except the bit about this happening first to eat the rich).

D&D as a "queer game" is extremely recent historically. I often see people pointing at D&D in the 70s as evidence for D&D not being queer, but like I feel that is missing the forest for the trees. Sure, the creators of D&D made it for a very specific crowd that very much did not include queer people, but that was also the norm for D&D until very recently.

And to be clear I don't think even the latest edition of D&D is meaningfully clear, but it's literally the first edition of the game that acknowledges queer people the existence of queer people openly and positively, instead of in passive mention or as monstrous caricatures. When people say "D&D was always queer" they're either talking about their personal experience divorced from the game as a text (which I don't think makes for meaningful conversation: at that point any game is queer) or literally just talking about the most recent edition and somehow letting that color the whole history of the game.

When people say "D&D was always queer" that's of course an obvious lie. But it wasn't just a brief moment in the 70s when D&D was "not queer." It has been so for pretty much all of its history and as such has lagged much behind other games. And ultimately it still isn't really a queer game unless you consider stories of killing dragons with swords where the elves are sometimes gay meaningfully queer narratives (I don't).

And you know what: it's 100% okay to enjoy D&D, the game that is not queer, as a medium for telling stories that might be queer. But also it would kind of kick ass if you looked at games written by queer people which actually center queer experiences. Or if you still just want to play a dungeon game you could play a dungeon game made by a cool trans woman who's gay.

Plötzlich Krankenhaus

Wie war das denn bei dir? Bestand der Verdacht auf MS schon länger?

Bei mir war es purer Zufall. Ich war morgens beim Arzt weil ich (meiner Meinung nach) ne Stirnhöhlenentzündung hatte, die meine Sicht beeinträchtigt hat. 13 Stunden, zig Sehtests und ne Lumbal Punktion später wurde ich stationär im Krankenhaus aufgenommen und hab am nächsten Tag die erste Dosis Cortison bekommen. Ich wusste allerdings immer noch nicht warum.

"Fun" Fact: es wurden noch keine Tests gemacht, es lagen noch keine Befunde vor, nichts - aber meine Tante stand irgendwann in meinem Zimmer und meinte, sie wisse dass ich einen Hirntumor hab. Sehr aufbauend.

Nach zwei Wochen kam dann aber doch die Erleichterung, da hat mir der Oberarzt mitgeteilt, dass ich Multiple Sklerose habe. Er hat mir die Krankheit ein wenig erklärt und mir geraten mich erst in Foren anzumelden, wenn ich mit der Diagnose klarkomme.

Im nachhinein betrachtet war das der beste Tipp, den ich in Sachen MS bekommen hab. ♥️
