look i know it’s been five entire years since strong woman do bong soon came out but i will NEVER get over this show

-ahn min hyuk is the damsel in distress, and when he’s the hero, do bong soon doesn’t usually even need saving

-do bong soon is both feminine and strong, a rare combination. we love do bong soon

-top. tier. acting. i loved park bo young in abyss (my first ever kdrama!) and in doom at your service. her facial expressions and delivery are just amazing. and park hyung sik? he does such a good job of playing a pathetic ceo. kudos. the supporting cast is also fantastic with stellar acting

-technically this isn’t a good thing, but i love how goofy and low-budget the sfx are. it’s so fake but it ties so well to it being a comedy that it worked out perfectly

-the fucking hoverboard kills me every time i see it i love it

-in gook du and ahn min hyuk are both so pathetic. i love them. your honor those are my emotional support dumbasses. i love stupid men

-edit to add: THE WAY THEYVE MADE THIS LOVE TRIANGLE LMFAO. in ep 6 when igd thinks that amh is in love with dbs, amh knows that dbs in in love with igd, and dbs thinks that amh is in love with idg LMFAO THIS DRAMA WOULDVE BEEN SO FUNNY IF THEY WENT POLYAMOROUS

I watched Strong Girl Bong-Soon and honestly, it's a mess (spoilers). The sideplots were boring, I hated the SML (Guk-doo) he was annoying and sexist and pushy, the mom and dad's relationship made me cringe because she is so abusive even if she didn't actually hit him, and a lot of it made like zero sense.

BUT

Min-hyuk is the cutest, funniest, nicest boy ever and I want to punch the people who made him cry. And he loves Bong-soon for who she is and doesn't care that she has super powers and it was great!

And then Bong-soon was so funny and so cute and she looked hilarious carrying huge men around and fighting because she's so tiny. She has the best facial expressions:

And the scene with the bomb where Min-hyuk is trying to save Bong-soon and he can't, but he's tried so hard his hand was all bloody was so good

So I kept watching it anyway because those two were carrying the entire drama. Honestly, I would have watched 16 episodes of just Min-hyuk and Bong-soon hanging out. Or if they did more of his family plot (like did he inherit the company or not? They never made that clear). Any scene that they weren't in seemed totally superfluous.

The only thing I didn't like about their plot-line was the very ending. I thought it was funny that they had twin girls, but as much as I love Bong-soon fully committing to being a superhero, someone with super strength needs to watch those babies. I didn't know why they didn't bring back her grandma or have her at home because those tiny super humans are dangerous.

God I have to say this.

EVERY CHARACTER EXCEPT THE MAIN ONE IS INTERESTING IN THIS DRAMA

I thought it was because I was biased to the previous version but no. She's annoying and kinda an ass. There's no care in any of what she does. Where we had bong soon terrified of hurting an innocent person we have nam soon just throwing people left right and centre.

I'm watching this for every other arc. This is so fucking disappointing.

No no but look at the state of his hands

He literally fought with everything he had to try and get to her. Even though she repeatedly told him to leave because there was a bomb.

She begged and pleaded and he absolutely refused to leave because like he said, “I’m not leaving without you.”

“We’ll go together. I’m going to stay by your side.”

He was prepared to die for her.

We hear it all the time. The “he fell first, she fell harder” trope but honestly I think this is one of those “he fell first but they both fell hard” tropes.

There is nothing Min Hyuk wouldn’t do for Bong-soon.

This moment. This utter desperation he shows to get to the LOHL gets me every time because that is exactly what Bong-soon deserves. For someone to love this much for who she is regardless of her abilities or not.

Min-min would bring about the end of the world just for his Bong-bong and she deserves nothing less.

tbh i'm so glad Do Bong Soon was my first drama bc like Min-Hyuk is first introduced to Bong Soon by watching her use her super strength to beat up a group of gangsters and what does he do after?

Be like wow shes so powerful its so hot and honestly what else could be better

i. we! love! a! strong! woman! - kim bok joo opened my eyes to how attractive strong women can be. strong, BUT emotionally vulnerable as well. bong soon wasn't unnecessarily macho, but the dynamics of ml saving fl when in danger were so beautifully reversed (sorry, that scene where ahn min hyuk is in bong soon's arms bridal style???? and he pretends to faint again so she keeps carrying him???? height of cinema).

ii. ahn min hyuk. seriously. how can someone be so adorable. talk about a wife guy who took a knife guy. and that scene at the end where he gets up from the ground??? it made me weak in the knees. WHEN he got hard just THINKING about bong soon staying over??? simp. WHEN he found out bong soon removed his socks the FIRST thing he goes to check is whether she's removed gook du's socks as well??? my man delivered jealousy well.

iii. a moment of silence for gook du and bong soon and what they could have been. i would have screamed of i found out YEARS later that the girl i had been simping on LIKED ME all these years but when i finally got the guts to confess she ALREADY LIKED SOMEONE ELSE!!!!! but they delivered us the min hyuk and gook du bromance well. proud.

iv. again, rom com cringe cliche with a serial killer subplot?? why?? i mean, i loved the friendship bw gyeong shim and bong soon and how bong soon literally took a bullet for her, BUT there's other ways to show friendship you guys wth. plus the serial kidnapper creeped me out frfr

v. i need to know what happened with the secretary and that office bully.

vi. the MONK????? i need an additional storyline. THEY DISCOVERED HE WAS KOREAN BY THE TATTOO ON HIS BACK? i- what?

ps - an additional point for that office scene where min hyuk LITERALLY GETS WEAK IN THE KNEES when bong soon calls him min min

max cliche, max humour, max cringey, max cuteness. it's my comfort show, next to guardian.

and when alex nilsen said sometimes it feels like I didn’t even exist before that like you invented me

and when gus everett said when I watch you sleep I feel overwhelmed that you exist

it really shows how insanely you can love someone that you feel your entire existence is because that person simply exists and I think that’s just so painfully beautiful
