Small analysis on the “true” names of the characters The Doctor & The Master:

Recently I saw a post about how Theta means death, and I thought why the hell not look up what Koschei means (outside of the villain archetype) and he means deathless. It had me thinking - these names that the fandom seems to have chosen from hints and archetypes are scarily accurate.

Theta; the meaning of death, the hero where we are constantly shown as the hero, is a morally gray character. They are never at the hands of death, they are death’s hands. They never welcome death, and may never die. But they welcome upon the deaths of others even unintentionally. To the point where they murder another child to protect their other half.

Koschei; the deathless, the villain which the hero can never rid of. They have “died” several times, and we are led to believe they’re really dead every time. But like a cancer that our hero can’t get rid of, they come back again and again. They are the hands of the universe, driven with a madness so pure sometimes it can be seen as beautiful.

These two are unable to be without each other, The Doctor, our Theta, cannot exist without the Master, our Koschei. To exist without the deathless brings the universe pure fury and destruction. They are two sides of the same coin, and I wonder if the fandom is even aware of how these names represent their characters so well.

there is something wrong with me.

there is something ugly following me, it must be, because why else would everyone leave me. something is wrong with me and that's why everybody leaves. and i tried, i tried so hard to make peace with how ugly this part of me is. i tried to keep it at a distance, keep it separate from me. but any time somebody caught even a glimpse of it, it frightened them and then they left.

there is something wrong with me and it makes people leave me and so they can never find out. they can never see that ugly side of me because then they will leave. except i'm hiding it and they still leave. what am i doing wrong? did it slip through somehow and made them leave? or is the ugliness in me still?

i try so hard to hide it because i don't want to be alone, i don't want to be abandoned dammit, but the ugliness won't leave and the ugliness is all i can think about. i think about it more than i think about my partner, my friends, my family. in a way, it's the closest thing to home i have now

and then something happens and i think to myself - this is it. this is what all of this has been for, something is wrong with me and everybody leaves me. but. if i can be useful then maybe this awful ugliness will finally leave me alone. yes i want to be left alone now, please abandon me like everybody else, please prove me right

and then i'm useful and the ugliness stays. i sigh

years pass and people continue to leave me. i don't know if it's because of me or her anymore, it doesn't really matter. everybody left, but she is still here. i can always see her out of the corner of my eye. her presence brings me comfort. she stayed. despite everything she stayed. she is my closest confidant, my best friend, the one that will stand with me when nobody else will

i'll say more in the morning, but as a person of color, the reason i hate the newest doctor who episode is because it deals with racism in the most one-note, surface level, bland way possible. racism is not "haha white person is stupid lol idiot," it is a thousands and thousands of years old, systematic, learned way of thinking that can (newsflash!) even infect bipoc people themselves and therefore cannot be undone by one (white!) writer saying "hey wasn't that fucked up? anyway moving on."

the episode should have centred around the doctor, the literal black character. the episode should have expanded on lindy's character, unraveled her morals as the story went on, instead of giving us an unsurprising "twist" of her selfishness. i am not asking that a racist character be made sympathetic, i am asking that she be well-rounded enough that her actions have real-world ramifications. by making her a stereotype, an exaggeration, viewers have enough room to remove themselves and avoid taking responsibility to learn from the story. "did you know that being addicted to social media makes you unable to see reality?" yes, russell, we know. now what the hell does that actually say about humanity? the only consequence of lindy's selfishness is that ricky, another white kid, is killed off. and what, i'm supposed to care just because he reads? because he's an "ally"?? we don't even see what his own relationship with race is like. we are not given anything to work with or think deeply about. i am begging on bended knee for russell t davies or whoever the fuck is in charge on the doctor who team to hire writers of color, especially and most importantly black writers to write for a doctor played by a black actor. i am seeing posts about how people are criticising the episode because they don't understand it. no. the problem is that we do understand what rtd was trying to do and it failed miserably because he doesn't know what the hell he's talking about. "racism bad." we know, russell, we know. now say more.
