starl-high-t expreeesssss
aka. some doodles from a slowburn greased lightning/hydrusty highschool au me and my friend have been cooking up… explanations included :^]
⭐️
mx. electra is a polite & solitary compsci teacher who’s really damn good at their job, to the point that they have a gang made up of of 2020s-style neurodivergent teenagers from broken homes who stay in their classroom long after school is over to pick their brain about stuff and generally just hang out.
mr. greaseball is this big buff physed teacher who ALSO has a gang of teenage boy jocks that worship the ground he walks on. he’s macho as all hell and spends most of his free time in the school’s gym. whenever he’s not doing that, he’s off flirting with dinner ladies.
Tumblr media
they do their best not to interact when they can help it. greaseball’s boisterous nature irritates electra. electra’s effortless charisma irritates greaseball. greaseball’s jocks probably shove electra’s nerds into lockers, and electra’s nerds probably give greaseball’s jocks 0% whenever they mark their tests. it’s slowburn for a reason!
⭐️
onto other folks. cb is a super senior who sells drugs to kids in the hallways, and slick is his protégé. she’s an a-grade student who uses her grades and Thrifty Siblings to cover for her crimes, because cb doesn’t really gaf about potential expulsion/grades slipping… he doesn’t even want to graduate. he’s just doing it for the love of the game…
(also, yes, control is the headmaster. yes, he is still, like, 7 years old. it’s funny to imagine ok)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
hydra is a good kid. he is semi-involved in the Family Drug Business but doesn’t commit as hard, in part because he is far too busy angsting over the guy he has a crush on (who himself, poor oblivious idiot, is too busy angsting over the popular girl he thinks he has a crush on). he cries about it to mx. electra’s cult; in turn, they all try and wingman him in the stupidest ways possible.
Tumblr media
also really random bonus but i wanted to draw it. greasebear Exists, as he does in most of my aus, because i feel like a stuffed animal would fix at least 50% of gb’s attitude problems (and also cause it’s really fucking funny). he keeps losing it around the building and has to find increasingly complicated ways to smuggle it back without people finding out it’s his (because every teacher thinks it belongs to a student, and it would destroy his manly image!). sakaki-azumanga-type shenanigans ensue…
Tumblr media
⭐️
perhaps i will draw more doodles of other characters if anyone else fucks with this, or write some fic maybe. for now i’m just tossing niche self indulgence in ur faces lol,,,, enjoy🙏‼️:D

i'm about a month late to the party but i still got some thoughts.
so our sims lord and savior got digitally/socialmedially murdered by the amount of computer illiteracy everywhere online these days. and im here to have a rant about it and pick a bone with the idiots who feel entitled to his time and skill. long post ahead, i'm in the mood to go full anadius on simmers' asses
this isn't me trying to defend anything or speak on his behalf. but this is the hill i'm willing to die on regarding piracy in general. anadius doesn't need anyone to defend him in any case lmao. nonetheless this is a good case study
facts i need everyone to actually get through their heads real quick:
as it stands now, the full sims 4 experience has reached over $1200. that's my entire living budget for almost half a year.
sims 4 is a pile of garbage spaghetti code that will never get fully fixed unless some sort of miracle happens
ea is incomprehensibly big
ea doesn't give a shit about you
game cracking is free labor
okay, rant starts under the cut. don't interact if, besides comp skills, you also lack reading comprehension and critical thinking
if you're willing to dunk on anadius for being a dick, you're not different from people who defend ea. am i willing to say for certain anadius doesn't sometimes get off on calling people stupid? i'm not and i honestly don't give a shit if he does cause it would be missing the entire fucking point of his work. so what if he does?
and before y'all call me an asskisser, i see your point and i'm not trying to hide it. i lurk in his server sometimes and i go over the help threads and lose my shit laughing at the conversations happening there. he does live in my head rent free. as i've been saying for the past few years, if anadius spits in your mouth, you say thank you. anyway
i won't even get into the "he's rude" thing because it's a nothing burger. yes, he is. there's no denying it. however, just because he's mean doesn't erase the fact that some simmers can't follow instructions - especially the ones who got into sims when sims 4 was released. and i say this as someone who's exclusively played sims 4. this is most likely due to comp literacy going down w late genz/gen alpha.
the fact is that if you took a few hours out of your life to understand his system, your problems would go away. unfortunately, some of you can't fucking read a text carefully because you're so goddamn used to skimming over shit. and that's how you miss important details. that's how you end up moving shit you're not supposed to. i know it hurts to find out you're illiterate, but someone has to humble you. you can't just fucking go around calling him toxic and abusive(??????????) and telling him he has anger management problems. besides the absolutely bonkers idea of diagnosing someone over twitter replies, anyone who's ever dealt with people who have never tried to learn the basics of compsci can tell you he's right
furthermore, another thing that grinds my fucking gears is "if he finds it so annoying why doesn't he stop replying🙄". maybe i know this because i enjoy reading help threads too much, but i can tell you why he keeps replying. if you have a problem that can't be fixed by instructions, he genuinely wants to help you. this also applies to people who get cursed at, but y'all refuse to see it. in any case, he really does offer his full support when something does go wrong with his tools. (don't ask me for proof. there's a reason the server isn't that easy to find). the reason he keeps replying is so very simple. he's genuinely trying to make his tools better. the thing he posted about finding very few real problems with his tools is evidence of that. actually, as far as i've seen, he also takes feedback on his instructions very well and he's used the feedback to make them more clear over the years. the thing is, you can't dumb it down more than this. there's a limit to how comp illiterate you have to be to pirate, especially if it's tools as complex as anadius'. again, you might not enjoy hearing this and i can't help you with that.
if you thought i wouldn't get more asskissy than this, here you go: the dude is simply a master in programming. not only that, but game cracking is a side of programming that won't be automated and/or taken over by ai any time soon, unlike many other code-monkey tasks, for obvious reasons. he does it all for free. he spends a huge amt of time trying to improve his tools and craft just to, most often, run into a wall with people unable to follow instructions or, even worse, lying to him about shit they did to fuck up their game then expecting him to read their mind.
you wanna speak about this in tiktok-y therapy talk? y'all are the ones abusing his time, then calling him names, then being pissed when he makes fun of you again (I'm fucking kidding, by the way, if it really has to be said. but that's not to say y'all aren't wasting his time)
the backlash he got over his "finally" reply is wild. y'all are wild. and entitled. you're so used to shitting on EA that it spills over in the modding&piracy communities.
it's so fucking obnoxious how much of a spoiled brat some of you can be over people who do insane amounts of work for FREE. do you understand that? do you understand that, if someone gives you something for free and you break it by "accident" (aka you don't use it as intended, then try to lie to them about it), then go to them for more free labor to fix it, they're allowed to be pissed and make fun of you? (is it the right thing to do? i don't really care, honestly. if that's how he deals with his work and time being exploited by spoiled brats, fine by me)
as much as some ppl insist piracy isn't a political statement, just because you keep saying it doesn't make it true, and it's very telling how people are more pissed at someone who does work for free than at the humongous company owning the thing. and, before you even think about it, no, you couldn't seriously share the same amount of outrage for both.
i could go on and on and on about how this kind of victimization on the internet won't bring you anywhere, but I'll just say this: people insulting you online because you can't follow instructions isn't abusive. and if you can't understand that i have no idea how you can live in this reality.
anyway. this whole thing applies to anyone who mods or cracks or provides for free something that companies make or would make offensive amounts of money from. i hope it doesn't ever drive anyone away from doing what they do, but especially anadius who, and i hope you understand this at some point, is indeed the reason EA doesn't own our entire asses with the bullshit they frequently pull
anadius, if this post finds you, nice work. really appreciate you. also, let's pretend i never said anything about anyone spitting in someone's mouth, thanks😗

kurotsuki headcanons bc im weak for like. the housekeeping stuff.
third gym all xchanged numbers at training camp, kept in touch. it wasn't super active, but once someone sends smth it just keeps blowing up. (kuroo bokuto akaashi lev hinata and tsukishima are all in it!) its active like once a weekish probably, mostly . not tsukishima! hes in it but has it muted but sometimes hell humor them and react to the messages and stuff - this kid loves to have fun. akaashi is even less active then him though, bless his heart. but sometimes when kuroo or bokuto come up north to visit family, theyll ask if they can play at the gym or meet up and sometimes. kuroo will text him directly which makes tsukishima Raise His Hackles but he doesnt say no, and the first time they meet up, its at Ukais shop (albeit when someone else is at the counter.) tsuki voice you arent getting me to any secondary location sister. its also the first thing he addresses - youre a cradle robber? chasing firsties? cant land anyone your own age? kuroo laughs but says hes not really interested in anyone but he wanted to properly apologize for his comment over the summer, and in return he'll allow tsuki to lend his ear - for anything. tsukishima is like. w h a t ? ¿ he accepts the apology for the hinata thing but then chdbzhsbj he gets this Glint In His Eye when he says "he might be creeping up on me and inevitably over come me, but im not kind enough to make it easy for him" and like not to be dramatic but kuroo gets goosebumps and is like Ah Hah. he commends tsukishima on the change in perspective, and asks if they wanna go to the karasuno gym - hell help in his endeavors, and after sitting on a train for a few hours hes restless. the . offer to talk kind of slides to the wayside, but neither particularly mind because theyre not Really The Talking Type and tsukishima enjoys being around someone with the same sort of cunning edge he has, and they make slight jabs during the walk and its . light. easy! when they show up its free practice, so some of the people from the girls team are there, as well as the third years. suga notices them first, and gets daichis and asahis attention and hes like. Hello ? tsukishima is like. Now We Dont Have Time To Unpack All Of That, so he lets kuroo explain. daichi raises an eyebrow but leaves it alone, at least until right before they leave and he talks to him and is like. i know youre not so despicable to go after a kid but . be kind. and kuroo nods and smiles and says his "im always this kind" line and daichi rolls his eyes but he trusts him and wishes him well. kuroo is kind of surprised everyone things hes trying to flirt with tsuki, but. people will just be like that.
anyway, they meet up sometimes, joking and talking about teammates and school and kuroo helps tsuki with chemistry and they find out kuroos going to school for molecular bio and tsuki is thinking about lit, or maybe compsci, but he's not too pressed about it yet. kuroo is like Ah, The Wiles Of Youth and that earns him a soft smack on the back of his head.
tsukishima doesnt go to see him graduate high school, but he does send a text, which is nice.
as kuroo settles in at his university (north or tokyo but not by much, hes a city boy!) they visit less but tsukishima has a lot to do because the new first years have a lot of work they need and now that hinata and kageyama are less incorrigible spending time with them can actually be fun, but they still try for once a month, splitting the difference. kuroo got recruited to his team and still plays volleyball and its exciting to watch him get better - tsukishima says hes not going to watch until kuroo muscles his way onto the starting lineup because otherwise whats the point.
third year for tsukishima and hes vice to yamaguchi and he is proud proud proud and theyve got to wrangle these untidy underclassman and now that theyve got multiple national titles under their belt, they can now start to reestablish as a powerhouse snd get the fundng and managers and scouts they need so the captains have a lot of responsibilities, so it sometimes gets harder to get away. kuroo is settling well at school and did well in terms of grades and even if he isnt a starter, hes on the bench and thats Something. when he does start a game, tsukishima comes down to watch, and its. incredible? breathtaking? hes really good and hes connecting with the team and yeah its not nekoma but he looks just as home on this court as any other and hes made a family all his own right here. after the game he waits outside the locker room, and like not to be ridiculous but watching that game made tsukishima graduate from crush to like. being in love with kuroo. and he hopes people cant see. some of kuroos other teammates leave first, and most pay him no mind but theres a few who catch his eye, have a moment of recognition, and start snickering to their friends. it puts tsukishima on edge, a little, but even if these are college kids tsukishima has mastered his intimidation technique from the best (tanaka) (even if hes WHOLLY UNSUBTLE!) and then when kuroo exits at long last, tsukishima launches himself at him, wrapping him in a huge hug and kuroo freezes before hugging back just as hard.
tsukishima doesnt know if itll be worth much but he still whispers that hes so proud into kuroos ear and like. peak tenderness.
when they go apart, kuroo has fucking flowers and tsukishima is like. hello? hello? and kuroo asks him on a dste and tsukishima calls him an idiot and kisses him st its Cute.
before heading back home he visits suga and daichi who are sharing an apt in tokyo while they go to school and like. decompresses and loses his mind and they both give their blessing.
and when tsukishima comes back he keeps it quiet for a few months from the other two but yachi and yamaguchi both know pretty soon and when hinata finds out he absolutely drags out the groupchat and SHOVEL TALKS KUROO!! kageyama doesnt say much but they do need to, he and tsukishima have a quiet companionship now and hes fine with that. yamaguchi meets w kuroo seperately and its not a shovel talk but it is very much. be kind be nice be prepared and kuroo is happy someone he l*ves is loved but hes still properly scared of the murder of karasuno crows. and obviously bokuto and kenma and yaku reach out to do the same but its pretty sweet all around
kuroo watches him graduate. he helps him apply to college- theyre an hour or so apart but its a vast improvement and they make it work.
and they make it work!

IB ➞ Art school???
I’ve gotten some PMs with questions about taking the IB Programme in high school and how it’s now affecting me in art school now so I thought I would finally do a Post(TM) about it. Again, everything I’m about to talk about is based on my personal experience but please feel free to talk with me if you have any concerns about this post. I want to put myself out there and help others if I can since I had so much support getting to where I am now. If you have any other questions about art college or the likes, please feel free to shoot them my way 💘
WHAT IS IB?
The International Baccalaureate Programme (aka. IB) is a “fast paced” program for middle and high school students that’s supposed to promote students to think independently and critically. At my school, there was a set courselist, with one or two elective choices. Some courses were Standard Level (SL) and some were Higher Level (HL), which certain post secondary schools allow to swap out for first year credits. IB is different in different schools and different countries though, but overall, It’s meant to be an alternative and more challenging high school experience.
IB + ME:
I can’t say I had the most positive time in IB or anything since I was also REALLY struggling with mental health at the time and had hated every moment I was in high school. But upon reflection, there really were things to be gained from the experience. Pros and Cons.
I was in full IB until second semester grade 10. At that point, I was already thinking about studying art after high school, but was afraid to commit to it entirely because there was so much pressure from my parents and peers to go into a “respectable” career and get a “high paying job in science or math or business” or something. So I dropped to partial IB as a compromise and took IB math, Art and HL English, as well as regular Ontario Uni level Physics, Bio, CompSci, etc etc etc.
DO YOU USE ANY OF THE STUFF YOU LEARNED IN IB CLASSES IN ART SCHOOL?
No.
I have an official credit for Grade 12 Advanced Functions but the most math I do now is occasionally multiplying by 12. Could I solve a quadratic equation now? Don’t even know what that is anymore.
BUT! You never know what could inspire you. I was so interested in quantum physics, I’m literally writing a story about parallel universes. Learning is almost always good.
LET’S TALK ABOUT IB ART FOR ONE HOT SECOND:
I did find IB Art incredibly applicable and helpful because it taught me how to keep a sketchbook and understand the creative process, neither of which you actually directly get graded on in the animation program at Sheridan but is personally tremendously beneficial for developing ideas and creating pieces. Now I draw thumbnails for everything I do. And I appreciate them!
Even if you walk away from IB Art with the most garbage collection - no sweat, it’s only high school and it’s learning the process of creating art that is so so important! When I applied for Sheridan Illustration (the same year I was accepted into Sheridan Animation), I basically repeated a simplified version of the IB Art process and was accepted into the program with a portfolio score of 80, with 9/10s in Process/Ideation, Media Exploration and Sketchbook, which you REALLY focus heavily on in IB Art.
I would highly recommend taking IB Art if you are thinking about doing art after high school, or doing art in general.
BEING AN ART STUDENT IN IB:
I hate that Art Kids(TM) have a bad rep. People always assume that art is a dead end career and we all starve and we’re all morally questionable people but that’s not true at all!
But being that Token Art Kid in IB (outside of IB Art class) actually made me feel awful back then. I was always kind of an odd one out. That’s not to say that people weren’t nice or anything. But there was so much pressure to not go into art. Ever since I was a kid, I’d always wanted to be an “artist when I grow up” but I found that in high school, I’d often say that I was “interested in art but was also thinking of pursuing an alternative career in this and that” because I was afraid of being looked down on in an environment where everyone around me wanted to do something “brainy”. Admitting that I wanted to do art almost felt self depreciating because everyone else was actually going to get a “real job” and live “better lives”. But that’s totally not the case! I ended up spending a lot of time taking a bunch of science and math courses I didn’t really like to maintain my twenty thousand irrelevant Back-Up Plans.
IB AND LEARNING SKILLS:
I think no matter what you do, having good organization and time management skills is always going to be so so important!
Sheridan Animation is such a loaded program, you really have to try to schedule your time well. I used to complain about the IB courseload but I honestly feel like Sheridan Animation is so much more laborious. We had 8 courses + an elective last semester, each about 2 to 3 hours a week, plus all the time you had to put into doing homework and living life and sleeping.
Even though IB is meant to keep you busy to force you to learn good work ethics, I don’t think forcing someone to work harder necessarily means that they are going to learn how to manage their time. I was 100% unmotivated and depressed and self destructive in high school. I was in IB for four years but I always studied the night before an exam up until the very last one. And when I graduated and moved out, I realized that I was a mess and I had to change, and it was that self realization was what motivated me to learn how to slowly put together my life back together. Only then did I start taking steps to curate my life and learn how to plan ahead and schedule my week and get! stuff! done!
So all in all, maybe IB does put you in an environment where having good learning skills will benefit you, and maybe that will motivate you to learn how to maintain a good work ethic. But I really do think skills like how to study and learn and live life is something that you have to be aware of as an individual and want to work towards. Being in IB may help with those things, but it isn’t going to suddenly grant you powers to study two weeks in advance and keep track of all your assignments in a way that works for you. You have to learn to do that yourself.
HL CREDITS (AT SHERIDAN):
Not all schools acknowledge HL credits. Sheridan claims to. I know people in Sheridan Animation who have used their HL credits at other universities before coming to our school but I’ve never spoken to anyone at Sheridan who has used them in a Sheridan program.
This is lowkey a call out post @ Sheridan, but I have tried applying for advanced standing with my IB HL credit to replace my electives twice, but neither time went through. They claimed to not have the proper paperwork, and when I paid for IB to send my transcript to Sheridan, it was never found (despite there being a confirmation email from IB that it had been sent to the right place) so I was unable to get it processed due to a lack of paperwork. And when I tried to follow up through email, I was ignored.
(If you have successfully gotten your HL credit request to go through at Sheridan, please PM me and tell me how :’^))
I do know for a fact that even if you could, in theory, replace some electives at Sheridan with your HL credits and as long as you still had enough courses a semester to consider you a full time student, you would still pay the same amount of tuition. You would just be less busy.
SHOULD I TAKE IB THEN?
Honestly, it’s up to you and your own life!
I know I rambled on for so long only to give the most passive and watery advice but I think you should do what you believe is best for you! Just be aware that whatever you choose is going to lead you to a different future and all your actions will have consequences (good or bad or either) and be okay with that.
Sometimes, I wish I didn’t do IB so I could have more free time to draw. Maybe if I drew more in high school, I would have gotten into Sheridan Animation a year earlier. But if I did that, I wouldn’t have learned how to paint in Art Fundies and have the friends I do now and live with people I love. Everything I’ve ever done up to this point has brought me here and I wouldn’t change a thing about the past so all I can do is work on making my future, you know :))
If you’ve made it this far, thanks for reading. Good luck!

im having a bit of a cry lads
ive always thought of myself as a fairly academic person or at least over the past few yrs. but i just keep proving myself wrong by doing awfully and i just. dont know what else there is or what else i can do. i really wanted to get a good grade at uni. i wanted to outperform gross boys who said sexist stuff in the compsci groupchats. but i just think im legitimately destined to fail. like i dont believe in fate yet i cant convince myself that my life is destined to be on a downward trajectory. like i dont believe anything is predestined at all. yet i still feel like i cant change the future and my failure is inevitable. i have quite a flighty bubbly and distractable persona with my uni friends as well and i feel like i need to prove that im at least kind of smart in order to prove that thats not all i am. but maybe it is. maybe i am stupid and deserve to be dismissed? maybe thinking otherwise was just arrogance?
i mean i have some good grades. i got a first in first year but first yr doesnt count. also i literally failed one module and had to retake it. still managed to average a first but still. doesnt look good. then this yr which actually counts i have a few percentages of final grades which are like first or 2:1 but i know im just gonna absolutely wreck them with bad exam grades because the exams are always like 70% of the final grade so even if you have 85% in coursework itll only make up 30% of what i actually get. man its just gonna suck. im gonna end this year disappointed in myself. at least it crushed my anxiety about getting an internship. i dont need to worry about that now since i know no internship will want me.
my mum called me and i said some of this stuff to her and she just did her usual ‘oh i dont know what to say im bad at this’ thing which honestly is ok like i dont know what id say either. so i was like ok just. tell me about how the cats are? and she immediately started complaining about my cat and about how horrible she is and it just made me think about the fact that she wants to put her in a pound and it just made me cry and cry . i let her talk for like 2 minutes w my hand over my mouth then i hung up.
also my mum was like trying to be encouraging like ‘youre not a quitter and youre going to do it.... you wanted to get into that uni and you did...’ which is like maybe a good sentiment but it just made me think like lol oh yeah i did want this didnt i. stupid stupid stupid
its so stupid so so stupid. im rlly lucky. i have friends, i have a decent family. so why does it feel like theres no one i can turn to with this? why cant i explain this to anyone? it feels so horrible that this stuff just ferments in my head. but i just dont know how to change things or who can help me or even if there is anyone

skater!hongbin
inspired by a short convo w/ @cappuchiho so this is dedicated to u chi!!!
hongbin is a college student and part time barista to pay the bills, but his true passion is skateboarding!!!!
is studying economics because that’s what his parents want him to do but minors in acting because he really enjoys character study and he can’t major in skating :(
when people see him in his barista get up looking like a model no one thinks he’s a skater boy…. but then they see him zooming past in skinny jeans vans and a baggy t-shirt and they’re like “huh”
always has earphones and you’d think he’s blasting a kanye playlist or something but no. it’s park hyo shin
looks super soft and sleepy in his morning macroeconomics class in his big fuzzy sweatshirt and oversized glasses, his skateboard propped up next to him …. all the girls and also all of the guys in the class have  giant crushes on him and swoon whenever he yawns cutely
waits forever to get a haircut because he’s too lazy to go to a hairdresser, so his hair always gets long and wavy and the bangs get in his eyes and it’s super dreamy
one time jaehwan cut his bangs for him and it was a mess but he still managed to look beautiful ??????
has a customized skateboard covered in stickers he’s collected over the years and he treats it like his baby.. he’s constantly dropping his phone and losing his notebooks but he would never ever ever let anything harm his precious skateboard
basically all of his free time is spent at the skatepark right on campus and as soon as he gets off work he’ll skate over and spend the next couple of hours doing tricks or just skating around
people always ask why he loves skateboarding so much and ,,,,,,,, hongbin never really knows how to answer? he just loves how free he feels when he’s skating, he likes the movement of it and learning tricks but more than anything skating has always been about escaping from his normal stress and worries
rooms with his bffl hyuk, who also skates, and the two of them are a total wreck living on pizza and ramen and hongbin’s mother would faint if she saw the state of their kitchen, but ….. they have a good time!
very shy at first………….. just because he’s so awkward….. despite spending all of his time at the skate park he’s always there with hyuk so he doesn’t really know anyone else???? he has his close group of friends and then doesn’t interact with other people cause he has no idea how to be a human
people are constantly asking him out at the cafe he works at and every time he just awkwardly clears his throat and looks at coworker gongchan in desperation, who sighs and goes “sorry he’s busy thursday”
anyways you go to the same college as hongbin and it seems like every single one of your friends has a giant crush on him? but you’ve never actually seen him, just heard about his perfect nose and perfect hair and perfect smile
your friends always take you to the coffee shop he works at because you’re like “there’s no way he’s THAT handsome” but his shifts line up precisely with your classes and work so you’ve never seen him
however, you do know hyuk! you sit next to him in your intro to compsci class and unlike you, he’s actually really good at the subject, but you…..have no idea what you’re doing…..so of course on the first day you befriended him to save your grade
every week you guys camp out in his apartment and do the compsci lab and it’s …..grueling… painful ……horrifying….. you’re convinced your professor is a sadist
you repay him for his generosity by making him real food because apparently he and his roommate are incapable of feeding themselves? although you’ve never met his roommate because he’s always at work when you are over
you always make him double portions to feed his roommate as well, because you’d feel bad leaving him to eat stale pizza after hyuk gets a full gourmet meal
so while you’ve never met hongbin, hongbin is pretty much in love with you because you leave him delicious homemade food once a week….he always asks about you and hyuk is like [side eye emoji]... and so a mischievous little matchmaking plot emerges!
one week hongbin has a bad cold :( and he’s home for like half of the week just curled up eating snacks and watching dramas :( but as miserable as he is….. this is when he first meets you!!!!!!
because it also just so happens that hyuk “forgot” to tell you that he’s busy during your typical study session, so when you knock on the door a sniffling (but still beautiful) boy opens it and ur like. “who are you”
and hongbin’s like. “whomst are you???????”
you quickly sort out that you’re here to study with hyuk and hongbin’s like omg you’re y/n????? while sneezing and you….. well you’re sort of a mom friend and you can’t help but feel sorry for hongbin
but also how does he know your name!!!
so you ask if he’d like you to make him some soup or something since you brought cooking supplies anyway….and it’s not because he’s so dreamy it’s just because you feel bad! you’re not trying to just spend time with him! you’re just being kind!
ten minutes in and hongbin’s tiny crush on you has become a HUGE crush because not only do you make amazing food, you’re also beautiful? and sweet? and he just wants to wrap you up in his arms and cuddle u, which is a feeling he doesn’t usually encounter
while you make him your famous cold prevention soup, he awkwardly hovers by the fridge and asks you questions about yourself and you’re like…………. he’s so damn cute
hyuk comes back from his “””important meeting”””” and the two of you are watching tv together and laughing and he acts all innocent when you accuse him of standing you up.
makes a joke about you two flirting and hongbin blushes, but you just stick your tongue out and shuffle a tiny bit closer to bean and that’s when he knows. he’s thoroughly fucked
you get his number under the guise of wanting to know if he feels any better, but like two days later hongbin calls you out of the blue and is like hey wanna come to the skatepark with me
and ur like….. i don’t skate? but bin is like i’m gonna TEACH you then
while he was awkward at his own apartment, he’s so much more at home skating, and you watch in admiration and awe as he shows you his tricks because his intense skater face is so appealing ,,,, the line of his jaw ,,,,,,,,,,, the laughter in his eyes when you try and fail to do a simple move
takes you to this little bbq joint when it starts getting dark and shows off his sick bbq skills (he’s actually not too bad)
you two drink soju and tipsy hongbin is still pretty awkward, but not as awkward as sober hongbin, so as you leave the restaurant laughing he kisses you, right hand holding his board and left hand around your waist
hyuk totally takes credit for your relationship
gives you his thrasher sweatshirt because he thinks you look adorable in it ,,,,,, holds your hand as you try to skate but ends up roasting you because you can’t balance well ,,,,,, you never thought he would be so savage but sometimes he hits you with total burns and you pretend to cry and he just laughs ,,,,,,, but at the same time is unbelievably tender and kisses your nose all the time
you don’t realize he’s hongbin that all your friends talked about until you bring him to a party and everyone freaks out ,..... “you’re dating HONGBIN??!?!??!?!” “oh whoops?”
you teach him how to cook for himself and he’s a surprisingly fast learner, but he still whines asking for you to come over and make him dinner as an excuse to see you
he always thought his skateboard would be number #1 in his life but you make him feel as free and happy as skating does ,,,, you don’t ask anything from him and you don’t expect him to always be perfect, even when he hasn’t showered for three days you love him (although you do force him into the bathroom) ,,,,
hongbin: “my skateboard can’t love me back ..... but you do.... thank u”
also hongbin: *skates up to you between classes, smooches you real fast, and then skates away*

Something Awesome Week 4
Tumblr media
AW YEAH! It’s time to finally start actually doing OSINT :D :D :D
So this week I want to start small and follow the OSINT Methodology by having goals to ‘find’. My goal for this week will simply be to find out what I can from basic google searches. In particular, I’m looking for social media accounts, personal websites, news articles etc.
For easy reading later on, any information in bold (besides titles) is information that I can put in the final profile :D So let's begin!
Before we start searching, let's note down what we already know about Andrew:
Male < 25y old lives in Sydney, Australia
Attends UNSW (probably a bachelor of computer science/software engineering)
Known Alias: Arc (from slack)
Known Email: [email protected] (he gave it out in the first tutorial)
Google searches
“Andrew Carmichael” is a rather common name apparently so just searching that doesn’t actually yield any results that match the target. “Andrew Carmichael unsw“ is much more specific and it leads us straight to his LinkedIn page.
LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/in/andrew-rc-carmichael/)
What’s relevant for the final profile? All LinkedIn Info. He keeps his linkedIn quite up to date, there’s his work experience, his volunteering positions, his education! Most notably, he is doing a dual degree in Mechatronics and CompSci, it seems he went on exchange to Edinburgh, Scotland in 2018 and he went to Barker College (Hornsby - he might live nearby). He also has listed all the courses he’s done thus far, awards he’s received and his ATAR and WAM.
Online Forums
Google also showed some webcms course forums that Andrew has been active in! Seem’s like he didn’t like the disorganisation of one of the courses lol.
https://webcms3.cse.unsw.edu.au/COMP1531/17s2/forums/search?terms=&forum_choice=&user=5060054
https://webcms3.cse.unsw.edu.au/COMP6445/18s2/forums/search?terms=&forum_choice=&user=5060054
https://webcms3.cse.unsw.edu.au/COMP1927/17s1/forums/search?terms=&forum_choice=&user=5060054 From this, I got the idea of checking OpenLearning and Moodle profiles, but unfortunately, I couldn’t find any useful information there.
CSE  The findings from WebCMS made me wonder if I could find a list of all the current courses he is enrolled in. If I had that information, I could look up the class timings and build a basic calendar from that. I ssh’d into CSE and started guessing some commands to run, surely theres something to check current enrolments ?!? I had to do so much of that for the databases assignments.  I ran commands to print out what all the available commands are and instead of finding enrolments, I found two commands `finger` and `acc`. I found some others too but when running them with the --help flag I found that they weren’t useful for me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well, finger didn’t really highlight much, I was hoping for more information from it. Acc, on the other hand, exposed the UNSW Mail [email protected]. I tried cd’ing into the home directories but access was denied. What was interesting is that the User Classes section only listed Andrew as a COMP6441 tutor and a student doing the 3785 Program, it didn’t mention any other courses - I think this means that he might be doing non-cse courses.
Note: This information is probably not considered public since you need a CSE login, but we didn’t really find anything that we didn’t already know anyway.
Slack
Knowing that he is a tutor made me think about his use of slack. I know that all the security tutors have slack so maybe there's a way to find out a personal email on slack if you have the username (arc). This is public! because anyone can join, but it does leave a trace. However, it’s fine for me since I’m in the course and already in the slack group. So I started poking around to see what I could find.  His profile doesn’t expose anything useful, it had his known email address but I could search all chat history for messages sent by him and any files he’s sent on slack. I looked through these files and the chat history to see if he shared any private information but there was none :(
Why is all this data important?
Not only did LinkedIn provide a lot of initial data, but it also provided data that could be used to find more. For example, I know that he went to school in Hornsby, so it’s likely that he lives around there (although I’m pretty sure Barker is also a boarding school so he could potentially live anywhere).
I know that he went on exchange in 2018, so perhaps there’s more information to be found about Andrew in Edinburgh.
Even though I failed to find his current enrolments, as I mentioned before, If I had them I’d be able to build a partially complete personal schedule that would dictate where Andrew would be every week throughout this term (not including class).
Just looking at his LinkedIn in general, It’s clear that he is very well versed in security awareness. This is especially evident from his certification as a ‘Professional Hacker’ in 2017. From an attackers viewpoint, this is very important information. It informs them of what kind of data and access Andrew might have in a company and how sophisticated their attack methods need to be.
I think its a decent start, I probably got derailed and lost some time looking through the commands on cse machines but that was interesting nevertheless.  Next week, I’d like to try using dorking and some tools on osintframework.com or the bellingcat doc to get more info.

Advice to CompSci students and recent graduates
I thought I’d give some advice to people from a seasoned engineer. I’ve been in computing since I was 19, so nearly 10 years now, and I did this when I actually used tumblr regularly and got a fair few reblargs about 5 years ago, so I thought I’d repeat it now that I’m a little older an more jaded and see how we go. So let’s get started!
UNIVERSITY DEGREES DON’T MATTER IN THE LONG TERM
This is probably the hardest thing to swallow. You work your ass off for 3 or 4 years at university for what? A bit of paper? Truth be told, after a couple of years working nobody will care, and it will count for naught.
NOBODY GIVES A SHIT ABOUT YOUR MARKS... IF YOU’VE BEEN WORKING
Want to know my average mark? Somewhere in the 65-70% region. I pulled a Credit or distinction for most courses. What did I learn? Some fun stuff, but not much of it was useful outside algorithms, software construction and design. The other courses I did were cool, but I learned way more by diving into relevant open source projects.
To be completely honest, the best engineer I know is a university drop out, so don’t sweat it if you fail a course or two. With some work there’s still going to be pathways for you.
As a thought experiment, put yourself in the shoes of a potential employer. They have two candidates, someone like me, not getting great marks, but has been working nearly fulltime through university and has a great reference from his old boss, and someone with no work experience but a straight 90% average mark. Who is a less risky choice?
The person with the job has worked with computers in a practical setting, outside the lab, and had to deal with the consequences of his or her decisions in real life. The person that’s concentrated on uni? Sure, they be smart, but have they ever had to deal with a stakeholder? Have they had to create actual working pipelines for their work? Have they ever had to support and maintain any of their code after an assignment?
Who will take less time to get up to speed in this situation? My advice is that if you enjoy study, great, whatever, but remember that universities will never drop you in a situation where everything is burning down and expect you to fix it. The earlier you learn to cope with that scenario, the better, and as it becomes a routine thing you will start to form practical links between your study and useful information, thereby beefing up your marks with minimal extra study.
MANAGE AND TRACK YOUR TIME
This isn’t what your parents tell you, "you spend too much time playing computer games and on that god awful tumblr site” is an astute observation, but not something you can really action in isolation. What is useful, however, is knowing how you spend your time and how you can optimise it. This is perhaps the most difficult thing to do, because it’s tedious and boring, but even just setting your timetables and work times in your calendar as a recurring event can help, and from there you can start to have a better idea of how much time you actually have to spare every day. Get into the habit of this, and I promise you, you will never run late or work overtime ever again.
MAKE NOTES ON WHAT YOU’RE DOING
Lectures, eh, I never found notes that useful since they were all recorded. Personal taste though, I know a lot of people that lived in their notebooks.
That being said, I do keep a very tight grip on my design and implementation decisions. I like using OneNote for this, because I can quickly scribble down ideas and to-do lists, and paste in code snippets for later. Another program that could work is Scrivener, and one of my classmates even kept an Excel spreadsheet with a workbook for each thing he was working on (I suppose you could use something like KEdit or Atom, but I like to lay things out in a very specific way so I don’t have to scan through anything. Find what works for you and keep it that way). When it comes time to stand up in front of my team and tell them about the project, I can always answer any question thrown at me. I don’t have to sit there thinking about it and trying to remember exactly why I chose library A over library B or why I thought this class was garbage and restructured it.
CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM IS A CHANCE FOR YOU TO IMPROVE AS AN ENGINEER, IF YOU GET HUFFY YOU’RE MISSING OUT ON A GREAT OPPORTUNITY
Leave your ego at the door and be a team player. You’re never going to be alone on a project, and you’ll do well to listen to your teammates and converse with them in calm terms.
If you get upset every time someone makes a suggestion on how to improve your Already Perfect Code™, not only are you going to look like a pompous dick but you’re going to completely reject this lesson someone is offering you for free. Everybody is there to get their job done, and if you get in the way and refuse to compromise and discuss your implementations you can’t expect to keep your job for long.
The flip side to this is that not all advice is good. In time you will learn to recognise this, because shitty advice will make your job harder, but when you’re just starting out it’s best to assume people probably know something you don’t.
CODING STYLE AND NAMING STANDARDS MATTER
You want to know what the stupidest argument on the internet is? Tabs v spaces. It gets nasty, and I saw classmates in uni get into yelling matches. My opinion is I’m a spaces guy, but I do what the rest of the team does. Why? Because consistency.
Have you ever opened up an old project you worked on at uni with a few different people and thought “oh dear god, what were we thinking”? I can assure you that part of this mess will be down to the different styles you all employed in your code. When doing this in a professional setting, it needs to be consistent to ease readability and ensure the team doesn’t misinterpret code. The lucky thing is, all the best IDEs have plugins that will do all this for you and throw warnings when something isn’t right.
PEOPLE SKILLS ARE PARAMOUNT
This doesn’t apply to everyone, but I know that a lot of us are basement dwelling nerds, but being awkward is something you need to get past. Working in software is just as much about your interactions with people as it is how good you are at making computers do what you want. How can you expect to get a good list of requirements from a client if you’re too shy to ask them tough questions? How do you function in a team if you can’t communicate with the people assigned to help you on a problem?
This is definitely something that can be learned if you put some work in. The way I did was just to hit it head on on the job and start out just trying to reword what the client was telling me they wanted. It’s not ideal, but it took a lot of awkwardness out of the exchanges I had. From there, I just started talking to people in bars, not hitting on anyone, just chatting while we were in line for a drink or something. Didn’t have to be anything specific, I just said the first thing that came to mind, and boy did I spill the spaghetti more than a few times. But you know what? I learned from it, and become much better at at least pretending I wasn’t a giant, awkward weirdo, which leads me to my next point...
ADMIT YOUR MISTAKES EARLY AND LEARN FROM THEM
You will fuck up. You are not perfect. Do not double down, especially when you’re brand new to the workforce and everyone will grant you three times the patience they’d grant to someone like me. Every time you screw something up, you will learn way more than if you did it right first time, so don’t sweat it and learn how to admit to your own failures and work on fixing them rather than learning how to cover them up.
DON’T BE AFRAID TO MOVE ON
‘nuff said. Always keep abreast of the job market and have your resume ready to go with a number of cover letters for different types of employers. Consider this a risk management and profit maximisation strategy if nothing else, and always know how much you’re worth to the company you work for (and be honest to yourself about it). In saying this, though, I tend to aim for a minimum 2 years with a company outside of contracts. It takes a while to onboard someone and bring them up to speed, especially in software, so be mindful of how it would look if you moved around too much.
This point is something I can definitely reinforce with my own personal experiences. I’ve been through 2 redundancies up until now, and both were for similar reasons, in that I was cheap to move off the work roster. My first I was on casual time, so wasn’t legally entitled to any redundancy payout, and the second because I’d only been with the company for a year and was only entitled to a small payout.
The other thing to note here is that if you work for a small company, chances are someone high up will do the firing personally. For me it was the CEO in both situations, so don’t burn your bridges here and be an ass. A personal endorsement from a C level executive will net you serious credit and at least an extra $5-10k at your next position, so be professional and make sure that’s the image of you they keep in mind when someone comes ringing for a reference.
LEARN AUTOMATED TESTING
If you’ve never worked in a real setting, this probably sounds stupid.
“Why would I write tests when I can just run the application and look at the output myself?”
Oh my sweet, summer child.
This one will come in handy for when you’re sick of spending 5 minutes loading up an application, clicking through and getting your inputs right, then waiting for it to finish. There are many different schools on how to do this, but truth be told even though nearly every company does it, most people on a team will do it slightly differently.
I’m of the school that will figure out the outputs for each component, write the skeleton for each one, then write the tests after having a basic implementation in place. This works for me, because I will often change the architecture and interfaces of an application as I go along and learn more about the problem domain.
On the other hand, my teammate will write the tests before she does anything else and generate stubs for everything she has to do. This is also a perfectly valid way of doing things and one I’ve seen used a lot, but it does require a more in depth plan and better understanding of what you’re putting into place before your fingers even start to tap out that code.
The third “correct” way of doing it is developing the tests as you go along, which is also perfectly valid, though I find with the way I work it adds a lot of overhead in my development time.
The process here is a personal one, and I’ve had a lot of heated debates in the past with zealots who insist on a particular way. Don’t be that guy, because as far as I’m concerned you need to find out which way works for you and stick to it while letting other people be productive in the way they do things.
SHITTY LANGUAGES THAT EVERYONE USES OFTEN HAVE AWESOME TOOLSETS AND ECOSYSTEMS
Yes, Java is shit, I know, but have you ever used Gradle?
How about JavaScript? Node is popular for a very good reason, you know.
Before completely dismissing a technology, be sure to check out what people are doing on the edges. I was a .NET programmer for many years and was locked into the absolutely amazing C# language, but the horrendous MSBuild build system. I started looking over the Java side of the fence and found a wonderful ecosystem full of amazing tools and even more amazing and dedicated developers maintaining them.
The rule of thumb is, if the language is shitty, people will build some cool tools around it to overcome its limitations. If the language is good, it can be a victim of its own success in a lot of ways. Don’t just look at a language, much sure you look at the tools that come with it, too
READ AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE
Yes, this is where I crack out Stephen’s must read list: Software edition.
Code Complete - Seriously THE book for amazing software construction. I’ve read my copy many times and keep it handy to refer back to it a lot
Introduction to Algorithms - The only textbook from uni I keep coming back to. An absolute treasure trove of great info, and provides insight into why your application is running really slowly or blowing out its memory heap
Introduction to the Personal Software Process - Want to be a better engineer? Read this, and figure out the best bits that apply to you. It’s bureaucratic, but it’s where I got my obsessive note taking and time tracking from and I stand by it as one of the best process oriented books I’ve ever read
Refactoring to Patterns - Your code is garbage, but you can’t quantify exactly what’s wrong with it? This is the book for you, and as a bonus it will help you fix it in a sensible way. Great as a reference, and I keep the quick reference list from the inside cover in my laptop bag.
Patterns of Enterprise Architecture and Enterprise Integration Patterns - These are fucking cumbersome tomes and very difficult to slog through, but will serve you well with some of the stupid, overengineered crap people have done in larger systems.
Continuous Integration - This is what’s done in the real world. Learn what it is and how to do it.
Continuous Delivery - Some places do this, but most really need to start. This book is a little enthusiastic about it, but the points it makes in regards to delivery methodology are spot on
The Lean Startup - You want to start your own million dollar company? Of course you do. Read the shit out of this one and learn what it means to be a customer driven, adaptive company. It will also serve you well working in agile teams, as you can help institute better processes and understand why things are done in certain ways.
Risk and the Smart Investor - “Yeah man, but I’m a free spirit hacktivist and I’m going against the man I don’t need money row row fight the powah”. Yeah, ok, I was young and unemployed at one point too. When you’re ready to be an adult and learn how to make your money work for you, spend the $20 on this book instead of Twitter or Yahoo shares. It walks you through various ways of hedging your risk and diversifying investments while also telling you the stories of two men who have lived very different lives and how they’ve spent and invested their money. If you want to make sure you don’t get suckered into a get rich quick scam and have a little nest egg put away for your twilight years, this is vital reading.
And that’s about all I can think of right now. I will try to blog more, I have some ideas for some home projects that I want to pursue over the next couple of weeks so I can get some things straight before I need to do them at work, so will probably write about them. Lately my routine has been wake up at 6:30, at work by 7:30, come home 5:30-6, go to the gym for an hour, come home, practice guitar for an hour or two, then go to bed. Absolutely thrilling lifestyle, but it should start to slow down in a little soon as I settle into this new job.

After much consideration and a few shots of cheap tequila, I agreed to help them out. Because why not? They have a decent idea and are trying to help the pitiful users of today’s internet. So here you guys & gals go: a guide on being a deceptive bastard on the internet and preventing people from getting a good grasp on your information. ================================================= Clone Wars If you’re reading this, then I’ll assume you’ve read The Paranoid’s Bible PDF and the PDF on OPSEC. You should have a grasp on the DOs and DON’Ts of the internet. However this will break those rules just a teensy bit in order to help you create garbage data and digital noise to obscure your real identity and information.  The PB tells you that you should always use a unique username for each account and never repeat this username elsewhere, yet there is an exception to this rule: Cloning. While cloning has several names, I’m partial to the term cloning because it gets the message across—make multiple accounts across the internet using the same username but with different information concerning the basic image of its creator. When you create an account you always end up adding just a tiny bit of yourself to it. Using the ‘About Me’ or ‘Description’ or those pesky bios… you’re going to use these and differentiate each account by giving it its own persona. So while you’re following the advice of the PB team and their various guides, these cloned accounts will be vastly different. Go nuts and use your imagination but remember some simple facts. Globally, European names aren’t all that common. Look at the current global makeup of the Earth’s population. Islamic-like names of Muhammad are quite popular, as are Asian names and East Indian names. While the majority of Western sites are heavily European and Americentric, it doesn’t hurt to mix it up with a Vash or Aiko. Of course, you can then flesh it out a bit more by giving them a European or American-sounding last name and background. You want these accounts to be completely different from your own. Everything about the personas being made for these accounts are not to be related to you or your ‘main account’. You don’t want them to ever communicate with each other or touch in any way. You must keep them completely separated, which is why you’ll be making them on various forums, social media sites and chats. The more ground you cover, and the more varied the accounts are the less likely people can make a cohesive argument as why this piece of information or that data is supposed to be related to you. For example, you make an account on deviantART. They’ve a little bio app that you can adhere to your profile. So, if you made yourself a Tumblr account, then the deviantART account is to not only be different in description but also look. If you hate Undertale, then the deviantART persona loves it. You like yellow, they love blue. So on and so forth until you’ve suddenly a teenage female artist with an Asian background who moved to the U.S. and knows very little about their own Asian heritage, ergo they cling to their last name which sounds Japnese-ish. By doing this, if someone were to ever look for information to use against you or to grab your dox, they end up on a wild goose chase where they’re looking for someone who doesn’t exist. Dirty SEO Tactics There are numerous ways to pollute a search engine’s results with “dirty pages”. Their page rank might not be all that existent, however they do tend to clutter around specific search terms like a username or a piece of common information laced into profiles or bios in order to throw someone off a trail. Now, to do this you need to have clean and organic looking back links. However one good way to populate an account with seemingly organic back links is to use one of the numerous “generators” that usually end up hurting your SEO in the long run. We don’t care about the long run, though. This is a short game tactic that translates into, in the long run, a small, albeit affective little trail duster meant to help cover some of your tracks. These three links are a good start; however there exist numerous “generators” that can be used. Using these three for all of your clone accounts should help you spark a little bit of a boost in their appearance on Google and Bing. With enough accounts under a similar or the same username, you can basically pollute the search results to help cover your main account with the clone accounts. https://www.freebacklinkbuilder.net/ https://sitowebinfo.com/back/ https://www.indexkings.com/ Ensure you read the PB’s “Internet Primer” to help you reduce Ads and pop-ups when using these websites. While not intentionally malicious, numerous sites, like these, can have malicious Ads or pop-ups. ================================================= Get a Friend Involved Let’s say you’ve a friend that you really trust and they’re interested in privacy and security just like you. Here’s a suggestion: Get them involved. Have your friend help you by using one of their own persona/clone accounts to accuse one of yours of being something that currently upsets the moral majority. From there, work in some fake dox and a handful of other pieces of information. Work those bits and pieces into a believable “dox” and have your clone/persona take it a bit too personally and start acting like you’re panicked. Delete the blog after a few days of the drama, let your friend’s persona/clone do some victory posting and move on. People will believe that that information belongs to you and follow that trail instead of looking for your real information. And, if you followed the PB’s namesake you should have very little information out there. You can even be lazy and just make your own callout blog to attack your own persona/clones. In the end, though, you just want to create enough tension and static to misdirect people. ================================================= Midwestern Theory The PB team had a guide for this one however you don’t need an entire guide for what can fit in a chapter. I won’t bore you with the excessive details but some time ago when Newgrounds was the in-thing, someone got upset at people for making the claim that there were a lot of Californians online. This led to the Midwestern netizen forced meme that quickly died out. The claim of being Midwestern is actually a good ploy when covering up your tracks. The Midwestern accent (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midwestern_accent) is easy to mimic and if you watch some Youtube videos (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DlxCDlIfh0), you should find yourself being able to pick it up and force it when need be. Ideally you should never let anyone see your face or hear your voice, yet it does come in handy just in case. Mix the various “Midwestern quirks” with setting all your accounts’ time zones to “Central” and keeping tabs of the time (https://www.worldtimezone.com/time/wtzresult.php?CiID=32119) (Always pick a random city or state in the Midwest) and mix in some research on “College towns” (https://www.collegeraptor.com/college-rankings/best-colleges-in-the-midwest/)… you should be able to spice up your bios and descriptions with something akin to a specific college team or name dropping a college or university that you go to and study at. So when you log off or leave your account, stating something like “OMFG! It’s 12:30 am! I have to go and sleep! I have a compsci class @ 9!” Keep this up with several accounts, adding in the oddball California town or Florida town, and you’ll have created enough static to keep people scoping out the wrong area for information. Though keep in mind that a lot of plant life in the Midwest tends to spread out into non-Midwestern areas. Take a picture or two of common plants around the US that appear in the Midwest, too. Figure out what’s a common park or nature preserve in the area of your false town/city and look at the common trees or plants in the area. Take a picture of something that is in your area that is in that area, too, and tag it with #Yellowstone park or whatever is popular in that area. And suddenly… you’re a Midwestern grilling in sub-zero temperatures because you want your burger. Don’t forget to show your almost zealous obsession and support for that area’s sports teams and no one is going to suspect a thing. Maybe spice in some local news from the area and make a comment on the weather (It isn’t that hard to look up a weather report through Google) and you’re good as Gold. You’re a real Midwesterner now, bro. ================================================= Be a Good Person, Share The PB team has in their namesake PDF a guide on opting out of Google maps, among others. Take the information for getting out of Google maps (and others) and make a flyer. Print it out, take it to Kinkos or some other print shop, or go to your local library and print some copies there. Make some wheat paste (shown below) and paste them all over your town (Put paste on wall and smooth, then put your poster up and slather on paste and smooth it on it too.). Soon a whole mess of people will be blurring out their houses on the online maps, and this in turn messes with the real estate sites to the point of anyone trying to look up your information finds a mass of blurred out houses. This causes a mix of the “Streisand effect” and reasonable deniability. WHEAT PASTE HOW-TO Flour (wheat works best) Sugar 1 Cup of Water Container with a lid • Boil a cup of water. • Put 3 tablespoons of flour into a bowl • Add 10 teaspoons of cool water until it forms a runny mix • Once the water has boiled, add the runny mix to the boiling water. Stir well! • Keep stirring. The mixture will foam up while it boils, so the constant stirring is essential to keep it from bubbling over and to keep it from getting chunky. • Keep the mixture boiling for 2 minutes. • Take the boiled mix off the heat. Police, military members, and their families can opt-out of a wealth of databases. Some take it to the extreme and have their houses blurred out. If enough people in your area begin to blur out their houses and look into other means of removing their information, you’ll soon see a bit of a trend that can affect several blocks when it comes to viewing houses on any online map. This means that you can not only safely blur out yours but it’d be near impossible to guess whose house is whose. It’s only defeated if they have an address, and that’s if it’s actually your address to begin with. Let these people rant and rave as they knock or send a malicious package to the wrong house. If anything happens, since it broke into the realm of reality, they’ll end up being arrested and charged with several crimes. Fun fact: Not many places care about doxing, especially the police. Most modern “dox” is openly available information. This is why you must work toward suppressing it through opting out of websites and databases. If someone takes it from the internet to the realm of reality, lawsuits and arrests can happen. ================================================= Don’t Neglect Reality No one’s denying the PB’s effectiveness when it comes to lessening the overall data of yours online, however until they discuss ways to limit information bleeding offline you’ll need to take a few extra precautions outside of creating noise and lessening your data. They do have a PDF on how your privacy’s invaded, yet that only covers so much. Be a little bit nihilistic and apathetic. Don’t care as much and don’t react if you are doxed or some gets a bit too close. Ignore them; work on lessening your information. In the offline realm however you should work on creating some good for yourself. This means work on cleaning up your neighborhood, keeping your property clean and being nice to your neighbors. Look into doing some volunteering and charity work. Create some good will toward yourself and lessen the general impact in case anything comes toward you and your life. By doing this you can create a large support focus toward you and what good you’ve done. People will be in disbelief and outright call the claims made against you false. Ever wonder why politicians and famous people, even the internet famous, never get much crap and have an unusually large support behind them? What they do is quite simple: Act like a good person. With bit of charity under your belt and by observing social protocols enough by simply greeting people and saying your “Please” and “Thank yous” you’ll create an air of being someone half way decent. People will see this and any accusations made against you will result in either demand for blood or death of someone who dares attack you. Now you shouldn’t encourage the bloodlust or wanting of death, however simply using your time wisely and helping your community can act as a good cover. Someone comes around and harasses you; someone who might have power will come to your aide possibly. It also doesn’t hurt to remove your information and have it replace with falsified information. Checkout https://reddit.com/r/freebies and keep an eye out for free magazine subscriptions. Fill out a few, regardless what they are, with your home address and a burner cell’s number. The name can be made up, possibly made to match the cultural and ethnic makeup of your area. Think about it. What are the most common people in your immediate area? White? Black? Hispanic? It doesn’t matter as long as you pick the majority and follow suit with their name. It’ll help further push that static to help cover your tracks. So if you’ve a large number of Hispanic families in your area, using a Hispanic sounding first and last name on your free magazine subscriptions can help you replace all your removed database records with falsified ones. Go the extra step, load up on other freebies. Anything you don’t need or want can be donated to a number of homeless shelters or shelters for women and/or children. Gives you an extra push in being a good person too! ================================================= Afterword Outside of following the PB’s advice, using a VPN, a non-propriety OS and not touching social media there’s not much else you can do. While being deceptive and sprinkling lies and half truths into your conversations and online shenanigans helps, most of us who were born in the 80s and 90s have screwed up royally and will never trulybe un-doxable or secure. Work toward anonymity and spread the PB’s information to as many people as you can. I should note however that your text and how you type can give you away too. Look into using a text editor and use Basic English spelling and grammar. Mix in some chat speak and some texting quirks and you should be able to keep the personas even more separated and unique.

Number Theory for a Chemist
Hello all! So because I needed one final STEM elective to graduate and this is the only one that fit in my schedule, I am a final semester chemistry student in a Number Theory class. The only prerequisite for the class was Calculus 2 so I registered.
Well, I went to my first class and I feel completely lost. Everyone else in there are math, physics, or compsci majors. They were really familiar with the way of thinking that is needed for a class like this. Meanwhile, I’ve tried reading the textbook and kind of understand what we’ve gone over (after spending two hours looking at three theorems and two proofs) but I feel like the understanding is fleeting. As soon as I look at practice exercises, I no longer get it. To be specific we did stuff that was supposed to be a review (I suppose if you took Discrete Math) but was new to me: Well Ordering Principle, Finite Induction, and Archimedean Property.
Some of my classmates have already been helpful but I sort of feel embarrassed to ask them too many questions and I felt stupid in class.
I spoke to my instructor briefly and he told me yeah discrete would have given me a better background for this, but he assured me that the class is doable even if this is my first time having to go so deeply into proofs and abstract mathematics. He’s really busy though, so we were unable to talk as much as I would have liked.
Does anyone have some tips or advice on how to tackle this course? I find it genuinely interesting, but I don’t want to play games with my degree completion. I need to get at least a C to pass this class.
Thanks for your help!
