donnela szarr & vellioth & cazador szarr
so my take on vellioth is that he is not related to szarr family and here's my essay why- (also i find it hilarious)
Tumblr media
i mean imagine how hysterically hilarious is the dynamic of being forced into an alliance with a family you hate but they've been vampire ladies/lords for generations and you can't just ignore their influence (+ the whole idea of being a spawn = being included in the family)

Notes on Cazador's Spawn
Mostly for my own reference but hey, someone else might find it useful.
Cazador Szarr becomes the Master Vampire of Baldur's Gate in 1276 (list of master vampires) completing the Rite of Perfect Slaughter on his master, Vellioth.
Astarion's gravestone gives his years as 229-268 DR. There are two assumptions we can make here: the first is that this is just being written without the 1, so he's turned in 1268 DR. The second is that it isn't DR, but instead meant to be Northreckoning - which would make the dates 1261-1300 NR.
We have a few choices here: if it is in DR, either the 1276 date is wrong, or Astarion was somehow turned before Vellioth was killed. Because of that, I think it's a bit easier to assume NR, especially since he's "one of the first" and not "the first". But this is a bit nitpicky.
For the rest of the spawn:
Petras is around ~1390 ("one hundred years eating rats and dogs" from the Flophouse convo)
Yousen is around ~1430 ("only sixty years" after Cazador's defeat)
Dalyria was Physician General to the Parliament of Baldur's Gate (journal). The Parliament of Peers was founded in the mid-1400s, so she would have been turned after this point ~1450
Leon is at least from 1486 (6 years of favored spawn) maximum 1480 (turned while Victoria is alive based on diary)
Violet and Aurelia have nothing that concrete. However, Violet does offer a prayer to Kelemvor after Cazador's defeat, so I'm going to assume she didn't pick up worship of a new god as a vampire, which makes her turning after Kelemvor's ascension in 1358.
This leaves us with like a century gap, with Astarion (and maybe Aurelia) being turned around 1300 and everyone else in the 1400s. But there's an answer to that as well...Jaheira and Astarion have a party banter
Astarion: Cazador always warned us to stay clear of this neighbourhood. Never said why, though. Jaheira: The last spawn who tried was sunk into the cobblestones and left for the sun to find. I had an unfortunate taste for theatrics, in my youth. Astarion: Ah. Yes, that was probably it.
The original BG games are set 1368/69 - so probably around then or shortly after is when Jaheira killed at least one of the spawn; we can assume there's a few more that got killed and replaced in the 1400s to get back up to magic number seven.
(more on the Szarrs below the cut)
The Szarrs were a merchant family. In 1479, they had been wiped out in an attack that destroyed their home in Tumbledown in the Outer City, leaving only Cliffside Cemetery within large caverns, and which were home to strange lights that could be seen from the river. Rumors about the Szarrs being seen as ghosts were commonplace.
The crypts under the Szarr Mansion we see in BG3 are the Tourmaline Depths, discovered by Donnela Szarr the architect - based on the article while she was Master Vampire in 1138-1204, but potentially earlier. I think it is reasonable to assume that the Depths are connected to the Cliffside Cemetery and Szarr family crypts underground (deeper than the Sewers or Undercity).
Amanita Szarr, or Lady Inconita, has a series of journals dated to 1477 recounting her turning.
Alturiak: describes that she was raised near Anga Vled, and rarely visited her 'Uncle' Cazador
Tarsakh: summoned on her thirteenth birthday
Mirtul: references every living (well, vampire) Szarr as Uncle Cazador, Granddam Fistula, Great-Aunt Dralia, and Cousin Blovart.
Kythorn: describes being turned, imprisoned in the attic. for refusing to participate. Then she drank human blood, and at least a year later, sent up a captive.
Flamerule: "succumbed" and declares herself Lady Incognita.
These span over 6 months (skips Ches after Alturiak). Reasonably, I think these were written during the period of the "captive" sent up, which puts her turning proper probably in 1475-1476, born ~1462. We can probably date the death of her parents to be the killing of the Szarrs, while she was very young. About 15 years before 1479 is perfect time for a ghost story to develop while gangs to take over.
(Anga Vled is a gnomish village between Baldur's Gate and Elturel, along the Risen Road - so not far at all from where Act1/2 are set)
If we assume that the relations Amanita describes are accurate, the tree would look like this. Given that they're an elven family (or at least, Cazador is elven) that means we have a lot of space to work with, timeline wise, but the quotes around 'uncle' might mean he's actually Dralia's son or Amanita's great uncle, to give a bit more space.
??? (Donella Szarr?) |-------| Dralia Fistula |-------|--------| Cazador ??? ??? | | Blovart Amanita
The question is: if the Szarr family are all vampires, then what does it mean that they haven't shown up? And that Vellioth was apparently not a Szarr but was still the Master Vampire (and definitely in charge over Cazador?) Who turned them?
My personal theory goes something like this:
Donnela Szarr, wealthy (but not Patriar) elven merchant has at least two children, Dralia and Fistula (probably not real name because come on)
some time from 1019-1138, Donnela Szarr, while investigating the tombs below her family's estate, encounters Hideous Gathwycke and is turned as his spawn.
1138, Donnela Szarr kills him and becomes Master Vampire
Donnela turns Vellioth
Donnela potentially turns her children to grant them immortal life
1204, Vellioth kills Donnela, becomes Master Vampire
Vellioth takes control of the Szarr family (intimidation, magic, or potentially turning Dralia/Fistula, if they're his spawn and not Donnela's)
Cazador is turned by Vellioth (at least 1260, probably earlier)
1276, Cazador completes the Right of Perfect Slaughter
~1460, other Szarrs die; Amanita sent to the countryside.
~1475 Amanita turned
I imagine that Cazador was fairly young when Donnela was killed (young enough to not be turned yet), and new Vellioth already, even if it might have been some time before he was turned. I'd put him at no more than 100 when Vellioth becomes Master Vampire; their relationship feels very 'strict teacher' which makes me wonder if he was a tutor beforehand.
The debate is whether the Szarrs were killed for mundane reasons (rival merchants), by vampire hunters, or by Cazador himself. If he killed them, it might be for refusal to let him turn them into vampires (Blovart as the exception), or some level of sibling rivalry? Amanita's parents are presumably not vampires since she was turned, but that doesn't remove the chance of monster hunters.
Based on the timeline, Blovart may have died sometime after Lady Incognita's entries, placing Leon as his replacement for the seven spawn (maybe the Favoured Spawn room was his by default, and became a competition after? The fact it only goes back 6 years is interesting). Perhaps related to how she left or died herself.
Dralia and Fistula's absence might be that they don't live with him, but I could also see if they discovered the Rite of Ascension and tried to usurp him and got killed for it. Cazador is fascinated by the idea of family, and I could see him very much wanting to keep his family intact but also has no qualms about killing his own mother / aunt.
All of this + the Lady Incognita stuff is very rough, presumably a lot of it having been cut with the Upper City/shift in direction for Cazador's story.

Below is a streamlined compilation of information about Cazador Szarr and the Szarr Spawn. I used this Reddit post and this Tumblr post as references, as well as my own gameplay exploration and deductions.
Baldur's Gate Vampire Masters:
612 - 698: Eravask the Forebear
698 -713: Zholtan Farr the Eviscerator
713 - 888: Madame Tallon the Well-Preserved
888 - 955: The Interregnum (temporary suppression by Lathanderians)
955 - 998: Blaiseuse the Coryphee
998 - 1019: Dykson Nightbinder
1019 - 1019: Failbleur the Fleeting
1019 - 1138: Hideous Gathwycke "Who Knew Not Satiety"
1138 - 1204: Donnela Szarr the Architect
1204 - 1276: Vellioth the Martinet - Cazador's Vampire Master
I. Always dominate. Allow none to be your equal. · Vellioth recalls when Cazador reached out to a former friend. His punishment was to watch as Vellioth drained his friend dry. II. Power comes from solitude. To share with others is to be weak, and to be weak is to fail… and die. · Vellioth recalls when Cazador rebelled against him. Cazador suffered eleven years of impalement… because he failed. III. Act not in haste. A near immortal has time to plan, time to act when others will pay the price of action. · Vellioth recalls Cazador, his lesson learned, killing him in the Rite of Perfect Slaughter. How they both laughed! Vellioth recalls Cazador boiling the flesh from his skull and then, to mock him, clamping his Schooling Scroll in Vellioth's jaws.
1276 - 1492: Cazador Szarr the Avid - Elf - Vampire Lord
I. First, thou shalt not drink of the blood of thinking creatures. II. Second, thou shalt obey me in all things. III. Third, thou shalt not leave my side unless directed. IV. Fourth, thou shalt know that thou art mine.
Note: Kozakuran language (from Kara-Tur) was forbidden for Cazador's Spawns to learn.
Other Vampire Masters:
Mrel Alkam - Vampire Master of Athkatla
Cazador seems to be in a rivalry with this Vampire Lord, based on the letter you can find in Cazador's Corner.
Cazador's Seven Spawn:
Aurelia - Tiefling
Likely the oldest Spawn, due to being one level higher than the rest if you examine her stats.
Astarion Ancunín - Elf
Astarion states he was one of Cazador's first Spawn. Not the first, but one of the first. This implies there was at least one Spawn created before him.
Former Magistrate in Baldur's Gate.
Born 1261 DR. Turned 1300 DR. Kills Cazador in 1492 DR.
Astarion was 15 years old when Cazador killed Vellioth and took over as the Vampire Master of Baldur's Gate. He was 39 when he became a Spawn. Astarion is 231 during the events of the game and when he kills Cazador. This means he had been a Spawn for 192 years during the game.
Petras refers to Astarion as a "runt" and "the runt of the litter" when you find him and Dalyria while playing the origin Astarion run. This ties into my theory that Astarion, despite being one of Cazador's first Spawn, was deemed the Scapegoat within their vampiric family. This also goes into my other theory that all of the Spawn, to some degree, participated in each other's abuse; be it actively, such as how Petras and Astarion seemed to have a mutually verbally abusive relationship, or passively, by simply not speaking up or trying to show too much fondness for one another, as a means to try and gain greater favor with Cazador.
Violet - Elf
States in her diary that she put garlic in Yousen's bed as a prank because he was a "whining runt", which caused him to break out in a rash.
Unsure if she's older or younger than Yousen, despite refering to him as a runt. Astarion is also referred to as a runt by Petras, though its inferred that Astarion is older than Petras.
Leon worried most about Violet harming Victoria, based on his diary.
Yousen - Gnome
Astarion seems to be racist against Gnomes, based on dialogue suggesting he views gnomes as animals and in how he gives backhanded compliments to a gnome Tav.
In Act 1, after he bites Tav, if you tell him to only drink from animals, he asks: "I mean, elves and humans are obviously out, but goblins? Kobolds? Gnomes?"
Astarion expresses distaste at the idea of saving Nere just for the sake of saving the gnome slaves trapped with him, if Tav talks to him and mentions the idea.
It's unknown if Astarion's dislike and dehumanization of gnomes existed before Yousen became a Spawn or if this developed due to consistent negative interactions with Yousen over their centuries being forced to play brothers. Either way, it's him generalizing and discriminating an entire race, and that should still be recognized as problematic.
Dalyria - Elf
Former Physician General to the Parliament of Baldur's Gate.
Believed that vampirism was some sort of blood disorder that could be cured.
Seems to be close to Petras, or at least close enough to actually have a visceral reaction when Astarion puts Petras in the sunlight. This may be because they're close in age, though its unknown if she or Petras is older of the two.
It could be argued she's fairly young due to the fact that, when you play origin Astarion, she seems to genuinely believe that they're all a family. She's far more vocal about the idea of family, telling Astarion "I can't believe you'd turn on us! On your own family!" if he attempts violence towards Petras. This could potentially showcase her naivety and gullibility of being a younger Spawn not yet fully experienced with the full breadth of Cazador's cruelty or her lack of experience truly competing with the other Spawn for her own self-preservation.
Pale Petras - Human
Around 100 years in age, deduced by his dialogue with Dalyria where he states he's had to feed on rats and dogs for 100 years.
Leon Onufrio - Human
Sorcerer. Based on various journals and notes in the palace, Leon was still able to cast magic; deduced by the fact he cast a spell to protect Victoria so as to make attempting to feed from her unappealing to the other Spawn.
Has been a Spawn at least 6 years.
Was the Favored Spawn for 5 out of the recent 6 years. Violet claimed the spot for one year.
Victoria - Human · Child, Daughter of Leon. · Dalyria's journal claims that Victoria is still "pureblood", implying Victoria is still fully Human and not a Dhampir, hence her wanting to use Victoria's blood as a potential cure. Leon's journal also states that Cazador forced Leon to bring Victoria with him to the palace after Leon had been turned, implying she hadn't been turned. · Cazador weaponized her safety as a method to maintain control over Leon. · If you use Speak with Dead on Victoria's body in the guest room, she claims she was an orphaned child who had been lured by Dalyria before she was killed. · Leon's journal reveals he had been making plans with Figaro to disguise and sneak Victoria out of Cazador's clutches. It can be deduced that he succeed and swapped his daughter with the orphan Dalyria had lured, and somehow enchanted or disguised her to look like Victoria.
Amanita Szarr / Lady Incognita
Cazador's niece who was forcibly turned into a vampire. Her entries claim that Cazador personally summoned her.
Her various entries begin in 1477, when she was 13. Astarion was turned in 1300 DR, so he would have been alive during these events and would have been aged 216. Which means this occurred 15 years before the game.
Wrote a journal detailing that the blood diseases Red Thrombosis and Thandals Paroxsym could give a vampire a brief illness if they ingest infected blood. She also states a vampire could train themselves to recognize infected prey by scent before biting them.
Servants:
Antwun Dufay - Chamberlain
Lurianna Sauvage - Werewolf · Lover of Antwun
Godey - Skeleton - Right Hand
Syrin - Human
Greenfern - Wood Half-Elf
Vilhelm - Human
Varderola - Human
Astarion's Named Victims:
Sebastian
Astarion states he was one of his first victims.
Wensleydale
Hapdim
Gondlemead
Likely Astarion's most recent victim, due to being the only Level 1 when you check the prisoners' stats.
Note: Please look at this post that clarifies Larian potentially made an error regarding the dates on his tombstone.

so I wound up having a whole Thought Process in replying to a fic comment and just
okay fair warning this probably leans heavily on my own interpretations of Cazador and also Astarion and a bunch of the Cazador backstory in particular is pure headcanon
also fair warning there's discussion of abuse and sexual assault in here
BUT
man these two actually have quite a bit in common--the "my Master is an abusive asshole" thing being the big obvious one
also neither of 'em seem to have a great relationship with their families: Astarion never even mentions his in the slightest, ever, so I remain unconvinced that there was anything good there, and Cazador uh
well
Amanita's notes imply that there were only a grand total of like four remaining living Szarrs despite having multiple estates and a huge fuckoff castle smack in the middle of the city and yeah I absolutely headcanon that Cazador had most of them merc'd because none of them did a damn thing while Vellioth--who only married in and who Donnela picked for vampire-ing over her own grandkid because she held Cazador responsible for his dad (her son) going AWOL as a vampire hunter, it's a whole Thing I should really write it down at some point--basically ran the family reputation into the ground with his insistence on indulging his own brutal assholery over anything else (instead of balancing it with blackmail/politics so they don't get Found Out)
so yeah he is fairly obsessed with his family but in the sense that it's his and belongs to him and he gets to own it and shape it and bring it back to how it was when he was a kid and they owned damn near the entire Upper City in one capacity or another
so really no he isn't fond of his family but more the idea of it and being able to control it which is. uh. quite different!
and that kinda leads into my next point that they are both fucking Obsessed with power, "over people" specifically to quote Astarion in-game
I mean after all on Cazador's side of things: that was how Vellioth got to be where he was, that was what Vellioth wielded over him and all the other spawn whenever he decided to torture/sexually assault/etc them as he pleased, and that was how Cazador himself finally got Vellioth killed, too, and turned himself into a full vampire finally--it wasn't dry politics it wasn't law it was just interpersonal trickery wielding Vellioth's personal desires against him, and Cazador not only wanted his own abuser dead but wanted to make damn sure that it never happened again, that no one would ever be able to hurt him like he did
even when it meant hurting other people--LOTS OF THEM in all sorts of horrifying new ways!--to do it
and that's why he really just is not fuckin redeemable by the time we see him: he's molded his entire fucking existence around that notion, he cannot will not trust anyone but himself, he tried over and over with that as a spawn and always got punished for it--his family was not kind, his lone friend died for his kindness, and considering that his general social circle was a bunch of rich people, I'm willing to fuckin wager he probably didn't get any notion of it outside, either, and in fact it probably made it even easier to just think of people in general like things--cattle, even
so all that's left for him is (what has to look to him) like stone-cold objective knowledge that everything sucks, the world is vicious and cruel and the only good things you can have you have to TAKE by force or trickery from someone else and they don't matter, they'll only take from you the second they get a chance
and yeah Astarion clearly had a bit of a similar problem over the past 200-something years, considering--he was also tortured quite extensively for years, despite Cazador genuinely thinking he's being nice about it in an I HAD IT WORSE SUCK IT UP sort of way; he got faced with an utterly impossible task to constantly hunt down prey for his Master while fuckin starving the whole time, and eventually in sheer desperation resorted to literal prostitution only to be met with a very blase okay that works I guess keep it up from Cazador since it wasn't like Cazador really thought Astarion had much in the way of other talents to lure people in and all he cared about was having people lured in
shit, Astarion's entire approval set damn near until the last act of the damn game are just reflecting that mindset--the world is vicious and cruel and the only good things you can have you have to TAKE by force or trickery from someone else
...thing is, Cazador was basically surrounded by enablers and even outside of that is also hellishly stubborn and molded his entire existence around the pursuit of power because he thought that was literally all there was to anything, even to the point of making deals with not just a devil but one of THE devils, one of the Big Boys and one who's pretty damn tricky at that
he was not and is not going to give up on any of his plans, even if someone SOMEHOW gave him a chance to, and if we ignore the whole VAMPIRES EVIL LOL thing for a sec--far as Cazador's concerned, the kind are weak and murdered and tortured by the strong, and that is just how it is. that was how it always was and always would be and he's been surrounded by it literally all his life, personal and political, with basically no evidence to the contrary that doesn't immediately get ruined, whether at his hand or someone else's
if this isn't what he should do in life, then what else is there? just being a horribly broken person for literally eternity or until someone up and stakes him? he can't afford to let this go because it would obliterate his whole fucking identity in the process
...Astarion though at least has the benefit of running around with people who do not in fact enable his FUCK EVERYONE ELSE BUT ME! bullshit, and in fact (can be, anyway) relentlessly kind to him and show him that yes, actually, there is a life beyond what happened to him
there's a whole lotta life beyond it, actually! even while he's trying to "just" be manipulative, because the kind are weak and he can't afford to be weak when his Master HAS to be hunting for him by now, he fuckin fails at that and actually gets attached to the people trying to get him to knock off his assholery--they treat him like an actual person and he actually gets pretty into that despite himself, even though it clearly scares the hell out of him to have to make his own identity over again beyond just...being the flirty vampire
but thing is
he's at least brave enough to try doing it (presuming the non-ascended route--the ascended route he just refuses and falls right into Cazador's own neuroses), and when he's given the chance he takes it despite being terrified of it
he's seen more, he wants more and he's willing to risk himself to get it because it was worth it
Cazador though
lol nah
ultimately he's a coward about doing that exact thing
he's petrified of having nothing left of him if he gives up on what he's doing so he just never even tries and would pretty violently refuse any attempt to make him, for that matter--to him, it can't possibly be worth it
Astarion at least believes a small selection of people would be worth trying for
but Cazador's got none of that because he gave the fuck up on ever finding that and split the world into people he owned and people he would eventually own when he got what he deserved in Ascending after so many years of pure shit--and after his existence had turned into a meaningless morass of violence and horror that he inflicted on literally everyone around him like the walking nuclear fallout of a man that he is
part of being better is wanting to BE better, and (non-ascended) Astarion at least eventually wants to
but Cazador would very literally rather die instead
tl;dr yeah one of these two is a "small pathetic little boy who never amounted to anything"
but it ain't Astarion

Szarr Spawn Sibling Headcanons
They were all changed physically by the vampiric transformation, with regards to their hair and changed complexions, though they did not all change the same way. However, they do all have red eyes, with only Aurelia having black sclera as tieflings often do.
After defeating Vellioth, Cazador inherited his rules, his ritual, and Donnela Szarr's Tourmaline Depths — his ritual site. He lacked only vampires, spawn and his ritual dagger.
Tumblr media
Violet Willowpath
Born 1196 DR. Deceased 1278 DR. Age at time of death: 82. Current age: 296. Years as a vampire: 214. Race: Wood Elf. Profession before turning: Locksmith. Facial scar: Scar 7. Little backstory: Lies / changes her story for how Cazador turned her any time she is asked. She and three others were hired to break into a vault in Waterdeep belonging to this couple of vampires from MTG art that I'm calling Salvador and Nerezza — Cazador's first over-reaching attempt to come into possession of the ritual dagger. She was returned in a box with the remains of her colleagues, and to receive the information he needed and Salvador and Nerezza's very generous offer of some day conducting business if he could treat them with respect, Cazador was forced to turn Violet. If she had been ugly, or without her uses, he might have killed her after receiving Salvador and Nerezza's news. Surname origin: d&d elf name generator
Tumblr media
Aurelia Roakh
Born 1259 DR. Deceased 1283 DR. Age at time of death: 24. Current age: 233. Years as a vampire: 209. Race: Asmodeus Tiefling. Profession before turning: Concert Pianist. Facial scar: Scar 9. Little backstory: Aurelia stole hours away to practice on an upright piano in an inn in the middle of no where throughout her youth. When she finally came into the city as a young woman she performed in hall after hall, hired by noblemen and merchants alike for all of five years, missing her opportunity to start composing for any of her patrons when she was stolen away for Cazador's sole amusement and ambitions. Surname origin: my imagination
Tumblr media
Astarion Ancunín
Born 1260 DR. Deceased 1299 DR. Age at time of death: 39. Current age: 232. Years as a vampire: 193. Race: High Elf. Profession before turning: Magistrate. Facial scar: None. Little backstory: Cazador's full focus was on Astarion for a time. He offered coin for manipulation of the courts for the sake of a few careless "missing persons," and he offered (vampiric) power to occupy the Gur within the City walls to ensure Salvador and Nerezza's safe passage into Baldur's Gate, the first of three visits. That the Gur were overzealous in their attention of the poster child of nepotism, only meant that Cazador could further claim authority over the fallen star and break a promise a little sooner than planned.
Tumblr media
Yousen Fizzlediggs
Born 1291 DR. Deceased 1358 DR. Age at time of death: 67. Current age: 198. Years as a vampire: 134. Race: Rock Gnome. Profession before turning: Cleric of Torm. Facial scar: Scar 4. Little backstory: Part of an adventuring party who sought to address claims of vampires in the Upper City. Humiliated into forsaking his patron deity, Yousen's spawn siblings have never forgotten how he would have slain them, and how he probably still would if given a chance. Surname origin: d&d gnome name generator + alteration with imagination
Tumblr media
Petras "Pale Petras" Lamprou
Born 1373 DR. Deceased 1392 DR. Age at time of death: 19. Current age: 119. Years as a vampire: 100. Race: Human. Profession before turning: Apprentice Jeweller. Facial scar: None. Little backstory: A patriar's second son of lacking accomplishment or ambition, but who shared the face of Cazador's long-late friend drained by Vellioth. Often ordered to silence in Cazador's presence so the memory can live on until Petras opens his mouth. Surname origin: searched common Greek surnames since Petras is of Greek origin
Tumblr media
Dalyria "Dal" Dlaen Del'Amatar
Born 1292 DR. Deceased 1413 DR. Age at time of death: 121. Current age: 200. Years as a vampire: 79. Race: Seladrine Drow. Profession before turning: Physician General to the Parliament of Baldur’s Gate. Facial scar: None. Little backstory: Her mother, a third daughter of a common drow family, escaped to the surface to hide her pregnancy, where she found community and salvation in Corellon Larethian. She raised Dal to be an elf beyond corruption, with a sense of justice and a love for life. This doomed Dalyria in many ways, as she would have been in the way of Cazador and his allies, and may have had too long a career besides, with an elven lifespan. Her beauty and intellect, and her ruined prospects, were trophies to Cazador. It was delicious to him how she feared him, and found revulsion in her fate. She had saved dozens of lives, and reflects on how many lives she may have indirectly touched through these people she helped on nights when she's faced with how many lives she's helped take since her transformation. But more than guilt, Dalyria is a creature of pride, and would trade anything for that in herself again. Surname origin: forgotten realms drow non-noble families list
I ship her with Araj Oblodra. Helping the restoration of her house, trading bites and resources, and magical and medical knowledge. Their union also provides purpose to some of the 7000 spawn, as well as a foothold in Menzoberranzan for the vampires' Underdark settlement's trade ambitions and general security.
Tumblr media
Leon Tharm
Born 1438 DR. Deceased 1479 DR. Age at time of death: 41. Current age: 54. Years as a vampire: 13. Race: Human. Profession before turning: Sorcerer. Facial scar: Scar 1. Little backstory: Grandson of Rhauntides and Shaunil Tharm. Leon was one of eight grandchildren (not even his full generation) sent in "cardinal directions" (north, north-east, east, etc.) to pursue their glory. In 1479, after the defeat of Elminster Aumar by an evil aligned Chosen of Mystra, while not yet a significant force in his own right, his historic name and associations meant that when Leon started seeking credible information about the result of that conflict and what it might mean for the plane (and magical communities, if anything), he brought attention to himself and his young family. Cazador lied, and poisoned Leon's wife, Theophania, to distract from any vampiric suspicions Leon may have had, and then leveraged baby Victoria's safety so that Leon accepted his fate without complaint. Surname origin: Shaunil Tharm; while Leon is a sorcerer and not a wizard, I can come up with many reasons for this while maintaining a reason for their relation. I looked up forgotten realms wizards

putting this below a cut cus it's a whole lot of me yapping about Hypothesized Vampire History lol but some de rerum natura-related thoughts below!
Tumblr media
came upon these Wonderful thoughts in response to my last page chunk post, and right off the bat thank you So much for the thoughts folks i love thoughts on the nonsense im sculpting lol. with the matter of casting donnela as emin's (cazador's baby elf name that i picked out of a hat) mother, idk if its ever going to openly come up in de rerum natura, but personally i had it in mind that she explicitly did Not want to turn him into a vampire. im trying in this comic to avoid black&white characterizations and present people as multifaceted as possible, & in the spirit of that i figured that donnela Very much did not want to pass the curse of vampirism on to her son & deliberately kept him mortal, in fact planning on outliving him. maybe out of love, maybe out of not wanting to give up any sort of held power by even risking having her son as a spawn - maybe a fair mix of both, i dont know. vampires kind of present themselves as having a glamour of immortality & eternal youth & all that, but the tragedy of vampirism imho is being forced to step out of time & exist forever in a sort of stasis while the world and its people change around you. i think somewhere deep down, power-hungry ideals aside, i think at her core even though she was a monster in other ways, she couldnt bear to force her boy to suffer the same fate. maybe in her way it was her trying to break the cycle but not being clever enough to fully disengage from it, since she still was making spawn & still was treating them like dogshit. A for effort i guess? also with all that in mind, hopefully that sheds even more light on vellioth going out of his way to turn emin into a spawn & his motivations as one last final fuck-you towards her 😬
with regards to emin's eye color also, i just picked blue as the most opposite of red just to showcase in the very rough roughs that he was still mortal lol but thats subject to change to whatever color. are the szarrs a family of moon elves?? i guess theyre moon elves but they could be sun elves made really pasty by vampirism, who knows lol
also on the matter of "how did a vampire have a kid" - it's DND baby wizardry exists dont worry about it LOL

i have a huge brainrot about szarr family so i fantasised a little about how donnela szarr (vellioth's creator) would look like
also sorry for sketching everyone's most hated pathetic wetcat of a man but the concept of his character is very interesting if we are talking about generational trauma + victim becomes abuser situation
