some Haru stuff
my joker was named Akira!
i knew Makoto more then in canon before joining the phantom thieves, idk if i would've called us friends but she was the closest thing i had to one before everything
i went to a college in Tokyo! it was close enough that i continued to live at home while attending, tho unless i was gardening i spent most of my free time at LeBlanc's
Sojiro and Akira gave me coffee making lessons... Sojiro would let me help out! and i taught myself a lot of those like fancy coffee tricks, like making the little foam animals and stuff! honestly i loved "working" there and if Takakura had let me work at the café i would've dropped outta school to do so, that and gardening were all i wanted to do really
oh! Ann and Shiho were dating, Ann brought her along to activities or LeBlanc's on occasion and she was really lovely
yeah i think my canon mostly follows the game, i know i was a lot more generous w my money tho and i honestly just didn't have a scale to understand it absksna it'd be like, "oh Akira let me pay for your subway fare" [gives him 10x the amount he needs]
oh and Akira didn't leave, his blood family just kinda didn't care abt him? so when he told them he was staying they were just kinda like yeah w/e dont get in anymore trouble. !
and Im pretty sure i majored in horticulture and minored in business, originally planned on doing it the other way around bc i rly did want to help out w Okumura Foods but had the realisation that i had the comfort if guaranteed work when finishing school anyway, so why not focus on the thing i love instead
i would frequently try and help Sojiro out w his finances but he would 99% of the time refuse, even tho i would tell him i had more money then i knew what to do with. anyway at one point me and futaba set up a little scheme (100% futabas idea) were she told Sojiro that she had started freelance coding to earn some money for herself/to help out (which he was still hesitant to take but he couldn't really say no to her most of the time) but it was really just me helping out ahajaha i think futaba might've actually taken up the work at some point tho bc I don't think you ever went to school in my canon, not physically at least, she definitely did get her like high school qualifications tho
Kasumi wasn't around in my canon at all either

Why dont you miss living in japan? What was it like?
Heeeeyyy
It’s one thing to visit Japan and do the whole touristy stuff. When you visits the country there’s a lot of fun stuff to do.
But living there is just so stressful because of the long working hours and terrible pay. I was averaging 50+ hour work weeks and getting paid peanuts. I would get paid once a month and my bank account have less than $200 by the end of the week because of bills and taxes. There was no overtime offered, which is illegal, and my work environment was very toxic with a lot of power harassment (and subtle sexual harassment). Also, being foreign in Japan sucks because there’s these stereotypes that just make it hard to get anywhere in that country. Being foreign and of Japanese descent made things even harder because I was always being held to expectations I couldn’t necessarily meet like social cues.
Also the whole 社会人 mentality of the society can feel very stifling. Individuality is sacrificed to not disrupt the unity or the 和.
Tokyo especially was hard. I was growing miserable by the day and depression started to rear it’s ugly head. I had a lot of friends and stuff but how can I enjoy myself when I’m a literal slave to the system?
Here are my friends planning a trip to Tokyo Disney and I can't go because it's the middle of the month and I'm broke. Also my employer never paid me on time and would verbally abuse me whenever I asked. I was constantly late on my rent because of this.
And finally it’s expensive. A day in Tokyo between Akihabara, Shinjuku, and Shibuya would cost me over 20 dollars in subway and train fare. Movie tickets run on average 20 dollars. I cost me 30 dollars to see Rogue One in IMAX 3D. My average food shopping was like 50 bucks and that was just ten items because food is so expensive (A tomato? 3 bucks).
Japan has one of the highest suicide rates for a reason. The country is fucking toxic. But you don't see that as a tourist. You'll never see it.
Sorry I ranted. Lol hit a sore spot there.

Tuesday’s Headlines: Why Don’t MTA Board Members Use the MTA Edition
Yes, it’s going to get tiring, but Streetsblog has launched its annual December donation drive, which is what we’ll be talking about all month. Please do what you can to help keep the Streetsblog NYC team of Gersh Kuntzman and David Meyer, and Streetsblog USA reporter Angie Schmitt, fighting the livable streets battle for another year. We’ve had some great victories this year and want to keep the momentum going. So click that yellow rectangle and give if you can.
And here’s today’s non-donation-related news:
There was lots of coverage of the MTA board meeting on fare evasion on Monday. While amNY and the Wall Street Journal focused on what is most likely an overstated problem, the Post and the Daily News led with NYC Transit President Andy Byford’s claim that he’ll deploy MTA front office workers to block would-be turnstile jumpers (no, really). And, as always, Aaron Gordon took the whole thing down with a single tweet.
Also, your subway is about to become like a McDLT: Hot stays hot, cold stays cold. (NY Post, NYDN) (H/T Lawrence “Lucky” Gardner)
Then again, the trains were so bad on Monday that you might not care. (NY Post).
Monday was also a lousy day for Citi Bike, as Streetsblog’s Gersh Kuntzman reported.
Next time you complain about subway workers, consider this: Rats get into their workplaces! Viewer discretion advised: This is literally a rat chasing a token-booth clerk out of her post. (NY Post)
Queens Borough President Melinda Katz demands that Amazon help pay for Mayor de Blasio’s BQX folly, er, we mean trolley. (amNY) Meanwhile, Queens State Senator Michael Gianaris is upset at real-estate speculation near the retail giant’s new HQ2. (WSJ)
Politico Pro subscribers will love Dana Rubinstein’s story about Corey Johnson’s call for mayoral control of the subway — which is exactly what people call for…when they intend to be mayor.
This should outrage everyone, but hopefully force DOT to do something: A private bus company that was kicked out of the Port Authority for not paying its usage fees ended up getting a city permit to load its passengers on the street — worsening congestion and creating dangerous road conditions. (NY Times)
We often complain about FedEx trucks illegally parked in bike lanes, but we have to admit this is worst: A FedEx driver apparently struck a mourner outside a Brooklyn funeral. (Pro tip: Don’t bother tweeting @fedexhelp — the account does nothing.) (NY Post, NYDN)
Our editor, Gersh Kuntzman, was on the Curtis and Cosby show on WABC77 on Monday. Listen to how exhausted he gets trying to convey basic statistics to an audience of fact-free, Trump-style belligerents who say they are more afraid of bikes than cars. (Reminder: Drivers have caused all of the 145 fatalities through September). It’s a short segment that speaks volumes about real fear vs. manufactured fear. (WABC77)
And, finally, our Streetfilms pal Clarence Eckerson Jr. put together a montage of how much better the city looks, thanks to protected bike lanes. Enjoy his video here or below:
