The Mirror: World risks falling into climate 'DOOM LOOP' as 'phoney war' with crisis ends
The world is heading into a “doom loop” where the “phoney war” over the climate crisis is ending and we are facing the “real consequences”, said an author of a think-tank report.
Researchers from the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) and Chatham House said that the focus has shifted from the major problem facing the world which is climate change and instead are tackling short-term issues.
It warned that simply trying to cope with the impact of the climate crisis is moving the emphasis from cutting carbon emissions and making the situation worse.
Researchers have pointed to the way that governments are now spending their time focusing on issues like migration, flooding and food supply.

“We’ve entered, sadly, a new chapter in the climate and ecological crisis,” said Laurie Laybourn, an associate fellow at IPPR.
“The phoney war is coming to an end and the real consequences now present us with difficult decisions. We absolutely can drive towards a more sustainable, more equitable world. But our ability to navigate through the shocks while staying focused on steering out the storm is key.”
The report honed in on examples like Africa which it said was already losing up to 15% of its GDP a year due to global warming and so this in itself means there is less money to tackle climate change.

This from the FLIP wall the first weekend of Open Studios Boulder. It’s just so complicated… “It’s not just how much we are divided, but more fundamentally how we are divided. The core problem is that the fundamental disagreement in our politics is now over what it means to be an American — it’s over what our nation’s core values are.” ~ Lee Drutman Parties are the best entity voters have to organize and influence public policies. “The danger is not the parties themselves. Rather, it is the narratives of parties as illegitimate tools of sabotage that polarize America into mutually alien red and blue societies, and not as healthy democratic rivalries.” Read this article. It is fascinating and lays out the dilemma is America facing: https://www.vox.com/platform/amp/the-big-idea/2017/9/5/16227700/hyperpartisanship-identity-american-democracy-problems-solutions-doom-loop . . . #carinreichstudio #crystalmudras #furedblue #flip #whatflipsyouoff? #toexpressistoheal #expressyourself #greatergood #cometogether #doomloop #doomlooppartisanship #leedrutman https://www.instagram.com/p/B3Xe3HVlg_Z/?igshid=c5zzrrqhpz9r

yall this is about to be so crazy to say but i feel its so important. if youre someone who is spiraling or is constantly in a doomloop, please get offline and go breathe some air and spend some time with real people who actually live life. i think too many people get sucked into this online community, reading the success stories of faceless people. putting so much trust into an online post, while losing even more trust for yourself. its actually scary how many people literally are driving themselves into mental detoriation over anons claiming they woke up overnight in bed with their kpop sp and a new wardrobe full of luxury items in the castle of their revised royal family, and then have some of yall looking at that like "but my life is unfolding like the natural human experience ! what is wrong with me !" i can promise you anyone who is completely honest with you is still waking up everyday, going through the daily motions of life. and yeah they found this law and created a beautiful life with it, but to sit here consuming all of this content all day that is so far from real life while gaslighting yourself into why you're such a failure is so OUT. the law was never intended for you to literally dissociate from your life and detoriate your mental health. it was literally intended for you to learn how to build a relationship with your innerself and GO LIVE LIFE. the rest unfolds on its own, effortlessly and naturally.

San Fransisco is going through what we call a "doomloop" now, the same thing that happened to Detroit: Higher costs make the city less attractive, leading to fewer people living and investing in the city. Fewer people living and investing in the city means that fewer property taxes are collected. Fewer property taxes collected means that the city raises taxes in other areas in order to make up budget shortfalls. Higher taxes lead to an overall higher cost of living and doing business. Which makes living and working in the city less attractive, and around and around and down and down we go.
Detroit also had the excitement of the automotive industry outsourcing a lot of production in there, but ya that does sound about right.
Fun thing with SF is they lack the level of self awareness it would take to do anything about that.
Likely will still be pushing for the 5 million reparations bullshit, which for SF is even stupider than it is for the rest of the state since it would be the Chinese that actually had to contend with all of that nastiness there.
Somehow they managed to build thriving communities though so they don't really get pulled into the discussion.

This is graphic. I warned you. But it’s real. - I ride public transit for about 90 minutes each way. Then I walk about a mile or so from the bus stop to the gallery. These were taken on that walk. - Everybody keeps talking about the Doom Loop. - Mostly it’s people talking about it. It was never a nice walk, but it’s especially less nice now, and if I’m using my phone, it is with my head on a 360° swivel & a Vulcan Death Grip on my phone. - I’m not exactly sure what a doom loop is, but I’m pretty sure that hanging plastic or silk flowers on the bus stops and hotels won’t fix it. - I don’t like being cynical - wait: yes I do. - But I wanted to share my daily trek to work. It’s beginning to look a lot like whatever a doom loop is. - - - #doomloop #sanfrancisco #walktowork #becauseicaniguess May 24, 2023 at 09:15AM via Instagram https://instagr.am/reel/Csodnp_gyqC/

As someone who has been an admin with Harley for a while now, I want to truly share my point of view here. I first met them as only a member to glamlist and as a member in a second group we were both in. During that time we didn't really have any connections so we didn't really talk either. So when I got admin at Dreams, I didn't know where I stood with them or what they thought of me. But I'd like to say that I have become friends with them in the meantime and I never never experienced any of the described behaviour from those asks. Sure, even within an admin team we fight sometimes, but that's because there are lots of opinions, especially when the tough decisions have to be made. And obviously we all spend a lot of time together daily, so conflicts happen. Even when there was a conflict, they were never toxic. And I can assure you that all they are trying to do is to write in peace and make sure that CityOfDreams is as much of a safe space as possible. That's all we all are trying to do. People often fail to see the work that is behind being an admin. It comes with dealing with lots of different issues and there are days where we all feel like we can't win. If we are too strict, people complain about the workload, if we ware too lenient, people complain about members not doing their replies. It's a doomloop at times. But especially in the last month or so, we've had to deal with some problematic people who we have only ever kicked out with proof that has been provided to us or that we've gathered over time. We believe in second chances, but at the end of the day we have to do what we think will keep the majority of the group safe. So the people saying we would do random bans or random decisions are often just not happy with a decision we've made. I don't think that blogs like these will help our community. We have a problem with communication. People get upset, post negative stuff and others just believe it without any real proof. If more people would just stop hiding behind anon and would try to have an actual respectful conversation, a lot of the problems we all have could be avoided. I want to believe that you are trying to help, but from personal experience with other accounts like this...they usually just hurt people. So please just think about what you post and how you comment on it, because there is always another person behind the other screen with true feelings.
I believe the biggest people we remain under anon, because anytime we try to have an actual conversation, it ends badly. I know it has a lot for me and others. Sometimes the problem with admin, and i've been guilty of way back in the past, is they say they're doing something for "the good" of the rp, when in fact, they can't see it's the opposite. So I will continue to air grievances and add any personal testimony. But I hear your concerns and will take them into consideration going forward, trying to find a happy medium.

Yeah, this is bad juju.
I can’t really say I’m *surprised*, mind, not when “both the Amleft and the Amright are on genocidal trajectories; the Amleft is still 5-10 years out from finishing, the Amright is basically there” has been one of my takes for a year or three now. This is about what I would expect from the Amleft at about this time if I’m right about both their destination and their timetable. (For the Amright equivalent, compare things like Kurt Schlichter’s writings as far back as 2016/2017 (plus a couple of other names I’m forgetting), or for a more recent example that’s developed in a more overtly religious fashion some of the QAnon shit. The distinction is that mainstream institutions have antibodies towards the right-wing version due to a combination of lingering effects of late-twentieth-century culture war battle lines and active effort from parts of the New Left, so the Amright version is restricted to certain right-wing channels; by way of contrast, the mainstream lacks antibodies to this kind, especially since the part of the Amleft that’s overrepresented in the culture industries is the one that’s doomlooping.)
But still: very, very bad juju, and the only way it doesn’t end badly is if the Amright version ends badly first.
Not the Bee.
This is real life.
Look y’all. We can talk about how racism and segregation in the past could have contributed to generational poverty. We can talk about how to help break bad cycles and support those who were marginalized.
But when you are actively pushing the idea of hating white people - with the exception of those who have dedicated their entire lives to a cause with ever-moving goal posts and constantly changing definitions - we have a problem.
In Germany there was decades, even centuries of anti-Semitism before Hitler came to power. It didn’t happen overnight. And before you yell at me for comparing white people today to Jewish people in Germany, pause for a moment and ask:
What did the anti-Semites say about Jewish people?
They said that Jewish people were wealthy, controlled the banks, and had institutional power that they used to oppress Germans.
If we have a few more decades of the White People Bad narrative that says white people have all the power and wealth and are responsible for the poverty and oppression of others - and we tie those characteristics to skin color - we are setting ourselves up for something Very Not Good.
Again, I don’t think we’re living in 1930s Germany. China is, at least as far as how they are treating the Uighurs.
But the whole point of “Never Again” is to never let it even get close to the point where someone could make that comparison.
The point is to recognize the signposts that point that direction and choose a different path before it’s too late.
Hating someone based on their skin color is racism.
And if you have a published book sold at Target that promotes hatred of a group based on their skin color, you do have institutional power, so don’t give me that crap.
Now, I don’t want the book to be banned. That doesn’t solve anything. I want us as a culture to recognize where that book is pointing and say NO, we will not go that way.

'I see arts of wonder around me': Chief Jimmy Bruneau students visit mobile gallery
‘I see arts of wonder around me’: Chief Jimmy Bruneau students visit mobile gallery
The Art Gallery of NWT is a trailer on wheels — a “wacky” response to the absence of a permanent exhibition space in the territory, says Sarah Swan, a board member for the Yellowknife Artist-Run-Centreless-Centre.
This week, it took the DOOMLOOP exhibition to the Chief Jimmy Bruneau School. Students stepped out of their classes to check out works from two artists.

Students explore the…

We should be able to handle a few months of working from home. It’s going to be fine. Again, just make sure that none of your habits during this temporary break in our work routine turn into self-destructive lifelong habits. After 60 days, they’ll get harder and harder to break!
