ab what the other anon said, i also remember moriel being pretty big. there were a lot of really good theories and fanart at the time and sjm was leaving lil breadcrumbs in interviews that people were excited about if i remember correctly too.

but around that time a lot of authors, directors, etc started getting an increasing amount of backlash about the representation or lack thereof in their work, and sjm was one of them. so i think that influenced the hasty switch in mor :( which unfortunately led to me personally not enjoying it as much. as a queer woman who dates people regardless of gender it just fell really flat to me, which really sucked because i loved mor and i was super invested in her character at the time.

which isnt to say that i dont enjoy these characters, this is still a series i really enjoy reading even if i dont love it as much as tog or cc 😂

and now, about cc hehe, i read somewhere there were supposed to be 4 books, one for each house. And Sjm's confirmed the fourth book but hasnt said whether there will be more or not. Im curious to see what the plan is now that the asteri are dead tho, because i thought they would be the main antagonist of the series so maybe she'll introduce another?

and i totally agree with your criticisms ab cc as well. The lil crossover nuggets we got with aelin being the red comet (headcanon that her court would laugh a lil knowing that she was considered a bad omen in another world lol), the books, etc. But I honestly didn't expect to get a crossover from CC into acotar, i thought it would be more fun for acotar and tog to clash. (let aelin into helion's libraries i BEG of u sjm pls 🙏🙏)

(not to mention the crack theory that maybe maeve is why daemati exist, that maybe millenia ago she or other valg were in prythian?? the powers are described similarly in dorian's povs i cant even lie 😭)

It’s kind of lame if miss Maas did sprinkle in hints for Moriel and then suddenly changed it? Obviously someone will probably have a different stance on this to me, but personally I think if you have an actual story to tell, yes representation would be lovely just because I think if it’s done well it can be such a great way to nourish a story and add depth to it, but if it would conflict with the immersion and detail you already have in your story then I don’t think it’s necessary? I think ultimately I am happy Mor was written to like males and females, but I can understand the frustration if miss Maas was hinting at a pairing and then double back on it that would be so irritating :/

I still haven’t finished CC3 but I have to agree with you because they seemed like such great antagonists??? They actually end up dead?? Okay I might actually finish the book now to find out how because I 100% thought they would be the main villains because, to be fair, they were excellently terrifying 😭 I think miss Maas did do an amazing job on coming up with creatures so obviously more powerful than the fae?

Although now the asteri are dead, it feels like if CC4 does some out it will either be a case of ‘oh, one survived’ or ‘they came back from the dead’ or she’ll just invent a new scare but either of those feels like it would be insincere and not thought out very well? I guess unless Maeve or Erawan somehow got shoved into the CC universe? that might be kind of cool? But I think if that was the case i’d want Maeve or Erawan to win 🫢 just for funsies and chaos 🫢

Oh I’ve seen some stuff about Maeve and the Valg, like how her mind reading powers are described, and I think her eyes were supposed to be kind of similar to Rhys’? To be fair I’d be quite like for that plot line to be explored, it’s doesn’t sound as implausible as some other theories I’ve heard so I think it would be quite cool? Though I don’t know what effect it would have on the story?

have they met their partner's loved ones?

dorian has met pretty much everyone! he was dragged to the trevelyan family home on one of his visits to the south. he is absolutely terrified of both of seong's parents (especially his dad) but seong's mother, armelle, loves him and likes to whisk him away at parties to gossip about fashion. he's also very close with seong's sister, viola.

seong obviously met halward in-game before he died. he's met dorian's mother, briefly, but she was probably blind drunk at the time. more importantly he's met maevaris and thorold, and likes them both a lot!

do they have or want children?

they had absolutely no plans to have children, bc of the continent-crossing long-distance relationship, but then dorian found a very scared little girl in a venatori magister's basement and everything changed. camille grows up living in minrathous, kirkwall, antiva, and her aunt's school in ghislain. dorian teaches her magic, seong teaches her piano, and they're both stressed but deeply happy.

if they were picking up something special for the other person at a market, what would they get?

for seong; nice cologne, scented hair oil, green tea, pretty quills and unusually-coloured ink, macarons

for dorian; dark chocolate, nail polish, gold jewellery, antique maps and history books, old tevene songs that seong can play for him

I feel like I've been criticizing dai a lot lately and probably will again as I replay the games so I thought I'd make a list of things I really enjoy about it. this is obvs my opinion and probs not a comprehensive list.

with one or two exceptions, I think they did a really good job making each area feel very unique. regardless of the quests or people within those areas, the design for most of them was really pretty and interesting to explore. the vivid and lush green of the emerald graves is such a contrast to the hissing wastes, which has its own beauty despite how stark and bare it is. the western approach having all these signs of the blight, like the griffon wing keep perched right on the edge of the blighted lands. the visual of the rift in the lake in crestwood.

the unique designs of each high dragon! I wanna see more unique dragons that we don't have to kill and whether there's a pattern at all to their appearance

the fade. it was so different from what we've seen in the other games and wasn't a strain on my eyes either and I really liked that fears of the dreamers side quest. it was just overall a really good bit for me

archery is actually fun - the little thwick noise each time you fire and being able to move while you shoot was a great change. also the lil draw/put away animation

each companion having a different outfit style while also being able to give them armour was a really nice blend of dao and da2 even though I wanted to dress like Vivienne

being able to play as a qunari!! this better be in da4 pls with better hair options

in the same vein, the concept of the vitaar and some of the designs were really cool

iron bull and the chargers. I wanted more with them. I would die for krem. I wanted to be a charger

skyhold. like yeah I would've liked to customize it more and repair it completely but overall I love it. the little areas especially scattered throughout (the little mage study library thingy beneath the castle is a fav). seras little room and viviennes balcony area are some of the better areas I think just because they feel v lived in.

most of in hushed whispers. I mainly like the whole going to the future and seeing the Worst future though I wish we'd been able to talk to our companions about it and as an intro to dorian it's really good even if fiona pledging the mage rebellion to tevinter was stupid

wicked eyes and wicked hearts. I guess I mainly like the idea of it? it's a very different quest to anything we've really done before (maybe the landsmeet is the closest?) and honestly running around climbing the trellises right in front of the nobles was a lot of fun imo

some of the main quest cutscenes were really good!! emerging from the chantry to see the breach for the first time, corypheus appearing through the fire at haven, clarel blasting the red lyrium dragon and causing the pc to fall into the fade, mythals (?) image rising from the well of sorrows to stop corypheus from following the pc through the eluvian though why she was human I'll never know, taming mythals guardian (who survived we now have a dragon friend 😌) um. I'm sure there's others but I'm blanking

the music

honestly I like the combat. never use the tactical view or w/e it's called but I generally have fun during the fights. I like the lil animation effects some of the abilities have.

the reaver specialisation is super fun

also the knight enchanter

vivienne. she gives you a friendship ring!

introducing someone from tevinter who knows it's messed up and wants to change it though wish dorians attitude on slavery wasn't so. u know, bad

josephine's romance quest where u duel for her hand I still can't believe I've only just discovered how cute her romance is

there's a couple of like mini map / dungeon areas that I feel like show how much better the writers do with like a smaller scale rather than the giant open world they tried to give us. like the lost temple dirthamen, the haunted mansion in the emerald graves, the cradle of sulvein, I think there's a couple more I'm blanking on but yeah I think because they were smaller they felt more packed with stuff i guess?

tarot cards!

repeatable kisses for romances. also being able to have roof time with sera. I think they should've given us repeatable friendship scenes like that for all the companions actually because it was a fun touch

okay that's all I can think of for now maybe I'll add more later. basically I do love the game it's just hard when you start to become aware of it's like. issues

“There you are.”

Lizzie’s smile is the fakest ass fake smile he’s ever seen, and he’s seen a lot of them.

It’s how she smiles when Wade asks her for donations to his Anime club. Or when Dr Saltzman caught all of them at the Old Mill trying to make moonshine (Kaleb’s idea). Her smiles are especially at their fakest when she wants to pull Hope away from him for some magical assistance to whatever trouble she’s managed to get herself—

—and Josie, and Alaric, Raf, MG, (himself, though she’ll never count him) and probably half the school along as well—

—that week. “Just the person I wanted to randomly bump into in study hall.”

“Really,” he deadpans, not believing her one bit.

He shifts his book just a little closer to his chest. He’s not nervous, but her energy is full of it sometimes, and sometimes it’s just energy personified that bounces off the calm he tries to fill his study hall with.

You know, where they’re supposed to study – in silence, preferably – but with Lizzie, there’s never much of silence.

It’s with a bit of a niggling discomfort that Landon realises he’s learned her tells: Lizzie can talk up a storm, always, but it’s in tense moments that she can’t seem to shut up. Not that he’d ever tell her to shut up; he doesn’t know why he always just wants to be nice to her, despite her printing out posters of VOTE ARTISANAL JAR OF MAYONNAISE FOR HOMECOMING KING last semester and sticking them all over school.

 “Well?” Lizzie prompts, clicking her tongue.

Landon’s just sitting there, and for all his humble bragging about being at the top of their classes he’s just… sitting there, with a look that tells her he’s not quite registering what she’s just said to him.

“I’m—I’m sorry?” he finally says.

Lizzie sighs loudly enough for the entire study hall to send glares their way. Landon attempts to tamp down on their aggression, but all Lizzie does is just sigh louder.

Sorry, Landon mouths apologetically again, raising his hand at Wade, who looks close to crying over exam revision.

“Landon,” Lizzie says with finality.

“Lizzie,” Landon matches her tone. “I’m sorry, but you’re just going to have to repeat yourself.”

Murder is the only word that comes to mind with the glare she sends his way. But she decides to humour him.

“Wow, that’s so weird. I feel like I’m just mishearing you. Again, please—hey, I said please.”

Lizzie’s mouth moves around the words she’s telling him.

Landon continues to stare at her blankly. “Sorry, there’s just this weird ringing in my ears. It sounds like you just asked me to be your boyfriend?”

Asking him, resident emo-boy, a marginally competent bird as she always ‘fondly’ calls him, to be her esteemed partner.

“Am I hearing this right?”

Lizzie hisses right through her teeth, “Do not insult me, you moderately competent bird.”

He lifts his book as if to deflect the blow of her mighty glare. “Look, I’m not! I’m just – are you feeling alright? Been getting enough sleep?”

“Two weeks have passed since my mom’s come back, and I have thoroughly exhausted every single mother-daughter bonding activity ever, and she’s moved on from Oh Lizzie, my favourite daughter, I’ve missed you so much snuggling to Who is this Sebastian your father keeps mentioning lectures.” Lizzie adds flippantly: “I’m not vibing with it.”

“Sebastian?”

“Super sexy perma-teen vampire but a complete misjudgement of character on my end.”

“And this isn’t?” Landon mumbles.

“I need to get my mother off my back, keep up.” Lizzie inches forward in her seat. The ends of her hair graze the table with how much she’s leaning towards him, making him look her in her wide, blue eyes. Always with the theatrics. “You’re just about at the exact opposite end of the Sebastian spectrum. Mopey, dependable, not obviously good looking, but your other qualities probably can make up for that. And you’re the kind of guy would probably wake up super early to get me a coffee and croissant before school, because that’s just how cheesy you are.”

“Thanks?”

“Don’t interrupt me. Anyway, it’s not just for my benefit either.”

“Somehow I find that hard to believe.”

Lizzie’s smile widens just a touch. “Heard your little crush on Hope just went up in flames.”

So is his face now, all puffed out and embarrassed. He lowers his voice and hisses, “How do you know about that?”

“Oh Landon. My sweet thrift store hobbit,” Lizzie sighs. “Everyone knows about it. You wear it like a badge of constant glumness. You didn’t speak to Jed for a whole week after he bought her a sandwich last week.”

“I could’ve bought her a sandwich too, big deal,” Landon mutters.

Lizzie raises a sharp finger and looks smug. “Ah, but you didn’t! See, my boy, you’ve got no game. Now imagine how much cooler your image would be if you were seen with resident popular girl,” she gestures to herself. “Your reputation would shoot up the ranks.”

“There are ranks?”

“Duh,” Lizzie says like it’s the most obvious thing. “And you, being a phoenix without actually possessing any unique phoenix qualities other than resurrecting – ”

“That’s not unique enough?”

“—looking like a pale artichoke in gym class doesn’t help, either. I am your salvation!” Lizzie finishes, hands on her hips and jaw raised like she’s standing centre-stage at their annual talent competition.

Landon narrows his eyes. “You think people will like me more if it looks like I’m dating you?”

“Now we’re getting somewhere. Move a little.” She takes a seat next to him gracefully, tucking her skirt under her thighs. “Listen. I need my mom to stop breathing down my neck. She’s been looking at me like she wants to give me the birds and the bees talk, with visual aid, flash cards and mini-theatre and I’d rather not go through that again. Once was more than enough. Pretty sure Dad wants her to exact power over my social life, since he doesn’t really have any say in that, and I’m looking at two semesters of constant surveillance. Or a twelve-step programme. And Professor M isn’t helping either—”

Landon shuts his book. “How does Professor M know about your love life?”

“Everyone knows about my love life, Landon. I’m interesting.” She rests an unwilling hand on his shoulder with a grimace. “And soon you will be too.”

“Because I’ll be dating you.”

“Fake dating,” Lizzie corrects primly.

“And you think Hope will like me, even though I’ll be unavailable?”

“There’s something to be said about wanting the unattainable, Landon. And trust me, you will be unattainable once you’re standing by my side.”

“Yeah, because everyone will think I’m nuts.”

“I resent that. Say yes.”

“Lizzie, I—” a panicked, helpless sort of look crosses Landon’s face. “This is really dishonest; I don’t think we should be…”

“Let me do the thinking for both of us, alright Little Bird?” Lizzie snips. “Getting back in my parents’ good books, the teachers off my backs for any sort of inevitable breakdown, and you… get to be Professor M’s potential son-in-law one day.”

“This is extremely coercive, you know,” Landon points out, but the protest is feeble at best. “And making me really uncomfortable. Nobody will buy it.”

“We’ll just have to put on a really good show,” she swears. “Say yes.”

 Two things happen the next two days:

Landon attempts to say hi to Hope, who looks right through him to greet MG a good morning.

During lunch break, by some kind of miracle, he joins Hope and Lizzie for lunch just in time to hear Hope say, “You were right about the bio homework, by the way. Your ideas aren’t that bad, Saltzman.”

Lizzie cocks an eyebrow at Landon. “Welcome, Kirby.”

“Oh, hey Landon,” Hope greets warmly.

Landon takes all of thirty seconds to make up his mind.

Lizzie’s phone vibrates in her bag. When she checks it, it’s from Landon.

Just one word.

 Every Friday evening, the rag tag group of upper-secondary students meet for some dumb study group Emma had made them all participate in, in an effort to like, ‘bond’ as ‘one’ ‘community’ or something.

It’s astonishing that all of them consistently make it every single week, but no one will admit it’s because they appreciate each other’s company. They’d chalked it up to Stockholm Syndrome.

Rafael comes when he feels like it, but he’s usually stuck in detention helping Dorian jar newton eyes or something, but even he tries to be on his best behaviour so he doesn’t miss much of these.

It’s during one of these study groups that MG, having been not-so-discreetly been spying on Lizzie and Landon whilst they all parroted off chemical equations to each other, demands: “Why are you touching him?”

He’s probably been watching them really closely since the Bomb had Dropped.

Lizzie makes sure to have Josie walk into them in the courtyard one day with her hand placed very carefully on Landon’s thigh, and shocks her twin so much she goes running through the hallways until she bumps into Penelope, and blurts out the scene she just witnessed, swearing her to secrecy.

Penelope, of course, tells everyone else.

Lizzie pretends to fidget with the hem of her shirt. “Excuse you?”

MG narrows his eyes. “You just… keep putting your hand on Landon’s arm. Willingly. Why.”

“Haven’t you heard?” Penelope smirks, whilst Josie turns red and avoids Lizzie’s glare, “they’re the Salvatore School’s It Couple right now.”

“Fake news,” Jed coughs into his notes, and Kaleb guffaws.

Hope doesn’t do anything but watch the entire exchange with curious eyes.

“Look, Penelope, you don’t have to believe it,” Landon begins, but he’s making mopey eyes at Hope, so Lizzie decides to cut in.

“As devastated as I am to admit it, Frodo’s been growing on me,” Lizzie sighs, the vision of a woman distraught. “Who knew I was into nerd porn?”

MG’s ears might as well be whistling, and Jed’s cough sounds like a choke now.

“Girl, say what,” Kaleb says in one disbelieving breath. “Tell me you’re not serious. You okay? Been getting enough sleep? Is this a breakdown thing, ‘cause Emma said we have to like, show solidarity and help you visualise your inner child and shit—”

Lizzie smarts at that, just a little. Her lips part to shoot some of her automatic sass bullets, but surprisingly nothings comes out. Landon secretly puts his hand on her knee in a secret show of solidarity.

“Kaleb,” Josie says sharply. “People can change.”

Lizzie eyes Landon curiously. He shoots her a small smile, which she looks away from.

“Exactly,” Penelope nods, but she’s smirking in a way that says she doesn’t buy a single thing, and is enjoying every second of watching Landon squirm under everyone’s scrutiny. “Who’d you lose the bet to, Lizzie?”

Lizzie, despite herself, starts to feel annoyed. “I’ll have you know, Penelope, Landon isn’t the short end of an already short bunch of sticks—”

Landon tries to figure out the compliment there.

“Then – then prove it!” MG blurts out. “Kiss. If you’re really a couple, then – Kiss!”

That stops Lizzie short. “Milton. Ew.”

“Really gross, MG.” Hope shoots him a look of distaste.

“Voyeur much?” Penelope smirks.

“Nah, I’m with MG,” defends Kaleb. “This is really entertaining and all, but it’s kinda starting to weird me out. Suck his face. No way you’d do that willingly.”

“You’re all wrong,” Lizzie tells them politely. Or as politely as she can. Things are a-movin’ and she’s excited; she can already feel her legs tingling when she accidentally siphons some of Landon’s magic from his hand on her knee under the table. She swallows down the smugness in her voice, because this is exactly where she’d hoped the day would go. She turns to Landon, and wills him not to look so pale.

“Pucker up, ‘90s,” she coos.

Keeping her face as forced-smiley as possible she leans forward and gives Landon a peck on his lips. A small little one. A peck really, bird to bird.

Landon, to her discreet pleasure, kisses her back.

When they part their chaste, publicly-acceptable form of display, everyone is looking at them, shell-shocked.

Penelope steals Jed’s can of Coke just so she could do a spit-take.

 “That plan worked out awesome. Score one to Saltzman,” Lizzie sighs victoriously as she plops down onto her bed. “Now on to Phase 2.”

“I really don’t want to know what Phase 2 is,” Landon mumbles. He’s got his arm slung over his eyes as he slumps three inches down into Lizzie’s plushy pink armchair.

“Phase 2 is Mom walking into us. She’s about to start baking downstairs. I know. It’s Tuesday. Ready?”

Slowly, Landon removes his arms. He stares at her. For like, a really long time. “What do you mean,” he widens his eyes, “by walking into us.”

Lizzie smiles deviously. Without warning, she lets out a very soft moan.

“Lizzie,” Landon hisses harshly.

“Yes, exactly, keep doing that,” Lizzie responds in a breathless voice, whilst she grins manically at him and flaps her hands, motioning for him to go louder.

“Lizzie,” Landon groans now, completely exasperated. “It’s barely been two days, I really doubt we’ll be having sex right now—”

“Yeah, keep talking dirty to me!” Lizzie all but bellows and jumps up on the bed, the mattress squeaking. She glares at Landon, who sighs, and very reluctantly joins her.

They jump up and down, and every so often Lizzie punches Landon in the arm so he lets out a believable grunt.

The mattress springs keep squeaking. Lizzie keeps up her panting.

After four more minutes of that, Landon’s a little out of breath, puts some spring in his jump, and lands in a pile of Lizzie’s haphazard pillows.

“Give it up, Lizzie,” he says, resuming his previous moping position of arm-over-eyes. “I think I pulled a muscle.”

“Sexy,” Lizzie says the way one might say ‘rancid foot’, but drops down next to him anyway. She stares at the ceiling, and they let out a long sigh.

After about another four minutes of moping, Lizzie turns to her side and swats Landon’s arm off his face. “Enough! Tomorrow night is another day.”

“That doesn’t even make sense,” he points out, before propping himself up on one elbow to face her. “About that kiss just now—”

“They totally bought it,” Lizzie can’t resist interrupting.

“You sure you okay with this?” he mumbles in that Landon way of his. He studies her face. She notes the dark circles framing his obsidian-blues.

“Getting cold feet already, Kirby?”

“No, it’s just that—”

Her door swings open. “Elizabeth, do you remember where your mum put the…”

Lizzie and Landon whip around to see a very livid Professor M, staring at them, at the space between them, at the sweat beading on Landon’s forehead, at Lizzie’s once-sleek French braid that has now shaken loose, at the two of them again, at the space between them, and once more at Landon.

“Professor Mika-Mikaels—” Landon squawks, turning white as a sheet.

The growl that emanates from Professor M seems to make the room tremble, and Landon all but stutters to a stop. Lizzie, however, is coming up sunflowers. She practically bounces to her knees and throws her hands up, eyes crinkling warmly, exclaiming, “What did you need of me, my beloved stepfather!”

“Well, darling, I was looking for your mother’s ridiculously expensive sea salt but now I’m looking for something else entirely,” he grits out through clenched teeth, despite being slightly mollified by Lizzie’s welcome.

“And that is?” Lizzie all but croons, making a very conscious move towards Landon. “We’re kind of in the middle of studying right now.”

“Banishing objects, hm? Your books are missing.”

“Invisique,” Lizzie sings in reply. Landon just wants her to shut the fuck up, right now.

Landon’s head disappears, which is a good thing, because he looks like he’s holding in from puking his guts out, the way Klaus observes him like he’s a piece of meat.

“You’re the phoenix, yes?”

“Yes,” Landon says squeamishly.

“Alright,” Professor M seems to deliberate, before flashing over to Landon, grabbing him and throwing him out the room and right down the stairs.

“Niklaus Mikaelson!” comes her mom’s furious bellow.

“For FUCK’S SAKE, KLAUS!” She hears Dad yell. “WE JUST TALKED ABOUT THIS.”

Screams erupt, there’s a clattering of feet, and Lizzie falls out of bed in a perfect traumatised swoon, back of her hand rested delicately on her forehead. “Stepfather! Can we not with the dramatics!”

“We’re going to have a talk about this later,” he warns with a finger wagging her way, his undisguised rage making his accent thicker.

“I’ll miss you when you’re suspended again,” Lizzie pouts.

He groans, already hearing Mom’s boots stomping up the stairs. “As shall I, my sweet.”

 At least Landon’s gotten used to resurrecting. Cause of death: the ire of Professor Klaus Mikaelson.

Lizzie’s waiting for him with a warm blanket when he starts to stir, her head facing the sky like she’s enjoying the sunset. Blinking groggily, he turns onto his stomach and rubs the back of his neck. He feels the weather-worn wood of the docks pressing into his face and he groans. That’s going to leave a mark.

“Welcome back,” Lizzie quips.

“Just because I can’t die doesn’t mean I wouldn’t appreciate some sympathy, Lizzie,” Landon mutters, throwing her a murderous look. “So what’s your damage.”

“Let’s see,” Lizzie says as she drapes the blanket over Landon’s crumpled heap of a body, face and all. “Two weeks of grounding. Mom suggested making it three weeks, but Dad intervened and said he’d rather us be on library duty instead for the rest of this semester.”

“Us?”

“Professor M also suggested throwing you out the window and have me try to levitate you before you hit the ground—”

“Jesus fucking Christ.”

“—but Mom was all Oh, maybe that’s a little too harsh,” Lizzie continues thoughtfully.

“A little?” Landon squeaks underneath the blue and white embroidered quilt. “Literally dying wasn’t enough?”

“But on the plus side, they were yelling so hard the entire school now knows we were caught post-doing the dirty.” Lizzie shoots him a grin. “On to Phase 3!”

“No!” Landon yells and clambers to his feet. “Lizzie, so far all your plans have kind of sucked for me, you know? How the hell is Hope supposed to like me now that she thinks I’ve slept with you!”

“Easy, lover boy,” Lizzie says, frowning. “This is the 21st century, she’s not a prude.”

“You don’t — you don’t know her like I do,” Landon says, burying his face in his hands and turning towards the water. “She’s not like y…”

He whirls around, hands already halfway lifting up like a gesture of apology but Lizzie’s already standing up, facing him squarely. Her eyes are narrowed as she takes him in coolly. “Not like?”

“Nevermind,” Landon says quickly. “Let’s grab some dinner, I’m starv—”

“Finish your fucking sentence, Frodo,” Lizzie says in a voice that is low and dangerous. Is it weird that he’s seeing some Klaus in the shadows of her face right now?

“Lizzie… let’s drop it.”

Aelin woke up with a surprisingly clear head. Her mouth was dry and she felt just a little bit woozy, but she muttered a quick prayer to the gods for looking out for her.

She stretched in bed, freezing when she felt something shift next to her. She turned her head to see her neighbor, Rowan Whitethorn, on his stomach next to her, fast asleep.

She quickly sat up, looking around the room that was definitely not hers. She wasn’t even in her own clothes. She was in her panties and a shirt that was too big for her but definitely belonged to the man in bed next to her. How the hell had she gotten here?

Frowning at Rowan, she slid out of bed and locked herself in his bathroom, undressing and stepping into a nice hot shower that would hopefully wash away last night and clear her memory. She closed her eyes and let the water pelt against her back, relaxing stiff muscles.

She remembered getting drunk at the bar with Aedion and Lysandra, remembered Dorian trying to go shot for shot with her. She didn’t quite know how she got back to the apartment complex, and quite honestly, she didn’t even remember knocking on Rowan’s door. Flashes of green eyes, strong arms, and warm hands on her bare skin tore through her head and her eyes shot open, a gasp escaping her as she remembered at least one thing from last night.

I want to be the only girl you take care of, she’d told him.

“Stupid, stupid, stupid,” she muttered as she turned the water off and stepped out.

Aelin couldn’t believe her drunk, dumb ass had not only managed to stumble into Rowan’s bed, but also had managed to make herself look like an absolute fool by admitting her stupid crush on him.

She dressed back in his shirt and her panties, quietly walking past the bed where he was still asleep and slipping into the living room. She headed for the kitchen and started to brew coffee, eyebrows furrowed as she leaned against the counter.

She should’ve just gotten right out of bed and went back to her apartment to wait for maintenance to come. She didn’t know if she wanted to be here when he woke up; she definitely wasn’t looking forward to any conversation about her behavior from last night.

She sighed and rubbed at her face. At least Rowan didn’t have a girlfriend. She frowned at the thought. Or did he? She couldn’t remember the last time she’d seen a woman leave his apartment. She did remember hearing a bunch of shouting and peering through her peephole to see an angry brunette storm out of his place a couple of months ago. But no, all had been quiet since then.

Until Aelin had locked herself out of her apartment and slept in Rowan Whitethorn’s bed. Gods, she was a mess.

Knocking at the front door pulled her out of her thoughts. Her eyes darted to Rowan’s bedroom door but after a few seconds of hearing nothing come from it, after another knock sounded, she sighed and headed for the door. Throwing it open, she saw a pretty brunette woman standing there, hand poised to knock again. The same woman she’d seen leave out of his apartment months ago.

“Oh,” Aelin said, slightly surprised. “Can I help you?”

The young woman just stared at her, brows furrowed, mouth slightly agape. She was really pretty, with long wavy brown hair and hazel eyes that glinted with green in the lighting. Everything about her was perfectly manicured, from her eyebrows, to her nails, to the tailored dress she had on. Prim and perfect.

“Is Rowan here?” the woman asked, voice edged with venom.

Aelin raised a brow but didn’t comment on her tone. “He’s still in bed. Do you want me to go get him?”

The brunette’s jaw tightened and Aelin was about to ask her what her problem was when she exhaled and crossed her arms over her chest.

“No. Just tell him that Lyria, his fiancée, stopped by,” she said in a cold voice before spinning on her heel and heading down the hall towards the elevators.

Aelin stood frozen in the doorway, horror beginning to curl through her as she realized what she’d gotten herself into. She’d stumbled into Rowan’s apartment, allowed herself to be undressed by him, slept next to him all night, was in his godsdamned shirt for Hellas’s sake, and now she’d just found out not only that he wasn’t single, but that he was engaged.

“Who was at the door?”

Aelin spun around, slamming the door shut as her hands balled into fists. She watched as Rowan pulled a shirt on, his silvery hair mussed with sleep.

“When were you going to tell me you had a fiancée? Before or after you undressed me and let me sleep in your bed with you right next to me?” she asked, frost crackling along her words, ice coating her tone of voice.

Rowan stilled, eyes going wary as he swore under his breath. “Lyria was here?”

“You fucking ass!” she shouted, stomping past him to his room where she collected her things and stomped right past him to the door.

“Aelin, it’s not– let me explain–”

“No fucking thank you,” she yelled at him, slamming the door shut behind her as she hefted on her jeans and made her way down to the lobby, calling her cousin to come pick her up.

She was going to have to find a new apartment.

I should tag people, but I’m feeling lazy and I’m pretty sure most people have already answered. If you want to do it, tag me so I can see! 

01) favorite game of the series? Definitely Origins. Inquisition drags a bit at times and I’m not as invested in DA2′s characters (by a very, very marginal amount, pls don’t hate me) but the story in Origins is just so good and so involving. I love the different origins and how they all affect the story in some way, and it was the first game I played that had such rich, original lore, so it’ll always hold a special place because of that.

02) how did you discover Dragon Age? My friend @biotrashcollector introduced me. And now, to pay her back for ruining my life (<3), I send her sad headcanons whenever I think of them - which is a lot.

03) how many times you’ve played the games? I’ve played all the games twice, and I’m maybe about halfway through my third Origins run. To put it in perspective, I have 296 hours of DAO on record.

04) favorite race to play as? I’ve only played as human and elf so far, and I prefer human for all the political machinations that go on. I definitely need to make an Adaar at some point though.  

05) favorite class? I love being a warrior in DAO just because it means I get into the thick of things (and I have lockbash which means I don’t need to be a roague to get the good stuff at Ostagar) but in DA2 and DAI it’s all about the mages.

06) do you play through the games differently or do you make the same decisions each time? I’ve made different choices in all of my games, except the current Cousland playthrough, which I’m fine-tuning as my ‘canon’. In all the others I tried to romance different people and play different storylines, but some of the decisions I made in my last DAI playthrough had to be done with my eyes closed.

07) go-to adventuring group? DAO is Alistair, Wynne, and then a plot-relevant fourth wheel. It helps to have the extra dog slot mod. DA2 is usually Anders and either Merrill or Varric with Aveline bringing the muscle. As much as I love Fenris I don’t take him anywhere unless I’m absolutely sure I won’t run into pro-mage people. DAI is far more dependent on what I’m going to do. I’ll take Cassandra and Dorian most places, then Bull will help me fight dragons, Solas comes to be snooty about elves, and the others are pretty much interchangeable. I am a fan of the all-mage party, though.

08) which of your characters did you put the most thought into? That would be my Queen Warden Rosslyn Cousland. I invented her and never looked back. My Inquisitor Maighread Trevelyan also gets some love, and they’re both major players in my ‘canon’ universe, but really, I don’t play a game without at least putting some thought into the character.

09) favorite romance? Of the ones I’ve played, Alistair is my favourite, followed closely by Cullen.

10) have you read any of the comics/books? Most of them! I went through a phase of trying to get my hands on all the extra stuff out there, but that was before Hard in Hightown and Magekiler came out, so I haven’t gotten round to those yet.

11) if you read them, which was your favorite book? It’s maybe a tie between The Stolen Throne and Last Flight, the first because I am a dog lord at heart, and the second because GRIFFONS.

12) favorite DLCs? All the DAO DLC I’ve played have been amazing, and I love the scope of The Descent, so I couldn’t possibly pick just one. (Legacy should have been part of the main game, so I’m not counting it.)

13) things that annoy you. DLC that should have been part of the main game (looking at you, Legacy), the turn-based combat in Origins, not being able to give your companions gifts in DAI, BEARS EVERYWHERE - also lore retcons, those really annoy me.

14) Orlais or Ferelden? Dog Lords Forever

15) templars or mages? I wholeheartedly say fuck the Chantry. I acknowledge that what is done to the templars to keep them obedient is awful, but I am very much on the side of the mages. 

16) if you have multiple characters, are they in different/parallel universes or in the same one? All my OCs fit into the same universe, though some, like Maighread’s brother Sean, died as a result of player choices in specific continuities. 

17) what did you name your pets? (mabari, summoned animals, mounts, etc) Rosslyn’s mabari is Cuno, and she has a horse in my civil war AU called Lasan; Melissa Hawke’s mabari is Brewster and I haven’t actually played Maighread yet so she hasn’t had chance to name her mount.

18) have you installed any mods? So many. My DAO game kept crashing in Denerim.

19) did your Warden want to become a Grey Warden? She might have considered it as an idle fantasy, but definitely not the way it came about, and she’s resented Duncan for it ever since.

20) hawke’s personality? Purple with red streaks when you threaten their friends, and sometimes blue when she’s trying to be nice, but that softer side only usually comes out around Merrill.

21) did you make matching armor for your companions in Inquisition?  No, but the liars get put in plaidweave and dawnstone so everyone will know their shame.

22) if your character(s) could go back in time to change one thing, what would they change? Rosslyn would tell her father not to trust Howe, and to not send Fergus away ahead of the rest of the army. In the early days of the Inquisition, Maighread would probably go back and tell herself and Sean to leave the temple before the explosion, but once she becomes more self-assured that would probably change to events from her life in the Circle. Melissa Hawke has too many regrets just to pick one, so she’d decline the offer to go back entirely.

23) do you have any headcanons about your character(s) that go against canon? All the origins survive in spite of Duncan’s lack of interference, but apart from that, most of my headcanons just fill in the gaps left by the game.

24) are any of your character(s) based on someone? Not that I’m aware. Some parts of my stories reflect real life, but nobody has a specific real-world counterpart

25) who did you leave in the Fade?  Sorry, Stroud. You’re expendable.

26) favorite mount? I don’t really have a preference.

Josie is that elegant, well spoken lady I dreamed of growing up to be when I was a wee punk. She has mystery! A good heart! Golden. Ruffles. The noble eldest of her family, saving them from doom. I think its fair obvious I am heart eyes gaga over Josie. And she's a gossip! True story, my favorite kind of person. Tell me all the things.

Leliana and Josie is probs my favorite ship for Josie. Next would be the not romance with Blackwall. I don't think I have a specific Inquisitor romance for that i like. But imagining her with an ex carta dwarf lady makes my heart feel fluffy. Val may get a cousin.

Also Leliana, i love their friendship? How they pick on Cullen and Cassandra. You know the shopkeepers cry in terror and joy when they arrive. Like yes a sale but oh the standard they demand.

How I feel about this character

Cullen is. He is not my favorite normally. Fandom ruined him for me, #notsorry. Now. I do think he is a character with great potential. I also want that furry cloak thing. I need it.

I dont have specific ship but there are a couple, as in literally 2, specific pairings that I read. But its more because I love friends writing then because I am googly eyed over noodle head.

My unpopular opinion about this character

That is not a redemption arc. He definitely becomes more selective with his mage distrust/hate. But he doesn't really change from his all mages can't be trusted stance. And the templars were poor mistreated puppies! Yeah no they problematic to bud.

Him interacting with now ex templars. Growth beyond the dogma and the addictions. It needed more. But kore isn't for boys who are pretty i guess 

Sera

How I feel about this character

Sera is a disaster and I love her. Sera is all of us who saw a qunari lady and also went woof. I like that she's nobody compared to most of your companions. She's a real people. Also eat the rich mentality is just yes. Throw them into the pit. And she brings the inquisitor in as a red jenny? Who else goes after this life, let's have another for you let's go. Her friendship is also so sweet? For all her friends, I don't think she gets friend friends until she's with the inquisition. Also, I totally get how she talks, train of thought is relatable.

How I feel about this character

I was too old for Alistair when I first met him. He's a child. Literally. He's like 19. Thats a baby adult, the boy who didn't want to be king. Also i found this lone blossoming rose amongst the dead things so i took it..for being chantry raised he is not very understanding of miracles. And you gift him dolls. Why did duncan go oh yeah i'll take this one to probably die young. Like why dude. He could have left the chantry with alistair and been like okay here's 100 gold and go that way. You have a good sword arm, become a guard somewhere. Instead of feed the child blood... I also really hate how he treats Morrigan. Wtf man. And yes, she is mean back but to say he was inappropriate when they first met would be an understatement. I'd be a bitch to him to.

How I feel about this character

I like that Cass is so Cass. Okay. She will fucking punch you in the face but also reads smut. I have found my people. She tries to right her wrongs, and the orders. She is also willing to eat her own words. She believes in people and goodness. While also maybe stabbing people. But she is also so naive? She believes Varric. Honey. Sweetie. He's full of shit and your full of shit meter is broken.

I don't really have a ship for Cass. Bear with me here, she is married to her work. She believes in it with every fiber in her soul. If she had to choose between romance and what she felt called to, what was right? She would let go of the romance. Which is supported by canon if you romance her and she becomes divine. Love only in glances. The world needs saving after all. And for cass it won't ever stop needing to be saved.

Cullen. She is a good influence on him, that he can do better if he tries, that he is better than he thinks. Also Dorian, their love of books would be a good start for a friendship. You know they read a lot of similar smut, especially if it's terrible. How else do you be mean to it.

can they use chopsticks: Yes! what do they do when they cant sleep: watch make up tutorials from like 5+ years ago made by people that are really good now but were uh...not so good 5 years ago. what would they impulse buy at the grocery store: shower curtains? is probably strange but also have you ever just fallen in love with bizzarre fuckin shower curtains in a store b/c i have but i have impulse control. what order do they wash things in the shower: top to bottom??? hair first and then work his way down i guess. what’s their coffee order: making at home its no milk extra sugar, getting it from a store its pumped full of as much chocolate as their allowed to put in one coffee and as much whip cream as possible. what sort of apps would they have on their smartphone: snapchat, twitter, probably whatever is the fad but he deletes it as soon as the fad is over. how do they act around children: he surprisingly really likes kids but he treats them like adults which is good in some ways but also bad in others. what would they watch on tv when they’re bored and nothing they really like is on: hgtv or whatever the equivalent of all the home renovation/buying shows is in this world lmao.

but then again, he also plotted w his siblings to kill his own mother so yk.

after awhile he started to think she didn’t love him as she claimed, and instead only liked to manipulate him, so they orchestrated a plan. he was to relieved the final blow, but he held back at the time and the injury wasn’t fatal. he pretty much fled and has been keeping his distance from everyone since.

he loves roses, but he hates white roses. red roses mean passion and love whereas white roses mean lack of it, so he thinks.

he loves his fedora. he never takes it off unless he’s totally at ease.

although he has had a lot... i mean A LOT of girlfriends, when he gets bored he just moves on w/o explanation. love is a foreign concept to him.

overall i say he doesn’t like being alone for long periods of time, but it’s hard to see him in a bad mood because michael is very good at concealing his emotions

he’s a very upbeat person, at least he portrays himself that way

he hates his eyes because they’re the same as his father

she’s a witch, always been... ever since she was a lil bean. but she didn’t & still doesn’t know till this day.

when she was just 8 years old she was sleeping safe & sound when a vampire broke into her home, sliced up her parents and ate them.

horrified & still in shock, her cat started to tug at her ankle & guided her to the closet where she hid with him.

she survived the night, waited for her cue & dashed off into the woods

she almost froze to the death but was found in the morning by the cops. she was sent to the hospital than to an asylum & diagnosed with schizophrenia, dissociative identity disorder, depression & paranoia. they assumed she killed her own parents & ofc no one believed the ramblings of an 8 year old about monsters.

she was released under the care of her aunt when she was 16. she brought her to live here, where believe it or not, young sienna found her old friend, mr.midnight. her cat and most dear friend. not to mention... only friend.

thing is, she’s clairvoyant & able to enter the spirit world. when she touches people she sometimes gets these really ugly flashes, of blood and mayhem. she doesn’t understand it but she tries to warn them anyways... sometimes it’s about something they did, or are planning to do, or something that’ll be done to them.

because she channels a lot of negative energy, she does get depressed.

she works at the flower shop, though she just makes the designs, and usually isn’t allowed to interact w the clients bc she scares the crap outta them

she’s got really long, dark hair. large eyes. very doll-ish, but very reserved. she usually tries not to wear black or red because it reminds her of death

she likes to spend her time in the woods, she’s growing a small garden of black roses somewhere.

she talks to her cat all the time so ... yeah. she can’t hear him for reals, but i mean, she doesn’t have a lot of ppl to talk to... so it’s sort of a ‘pretend’

sometimes she visits the graveyard and starts to put roses in the abandoned graves bc she feels sad for them.

she also talks to her parents tombstones ... i’m sad

this is PANDORA

my only human babe. she doesn’t know shit about supernaturals lurking around, and would probably be 120% done if she figured out

so panda is like this religious girl. smol child full of light and hope, everything sugary sweet. tries to be kind even tho some people don’t deserve it

but at heart, i’d say she’s strong. she’s scared of love, of opening herself up to people. she’s reserved, shy, doesn’t approach others unless they seem like they need help.

very strong-willed. she’s the daughter of the local pastor who is also a hunter. she doesn’t know this and if i’m being real would not approve if she learned, because whether someone’s supernatural or human that’s still killing

pandora struggles with being nice to people but standing her ground. she’s not very confrontational. having people walk all over her makes her sad, of course, but she tries not to let this get to her. everyone’s hurting in their own way, so she’s not judgemental.

her older sister rebelled against the goody-two-shoes family and got addicted to drugs and ran away from home. she could never understand this, because the truth is that her sister couldn’t deal w all the lies anymore, she figured out what her father was up to and went off the rails. it’s been a couple years, but pandora still heartbroken about this, because she’s now lost two people she cared about and there’s nothing she can do.

her step-mom is lowkey abusive. not physically or anything, but she’s not a nice woman. pandora’s mom died, but pandora never learned how or why, just that she shouldn’t ask question. she doesn’t know much about her, but she does have a half-burnt picture of her mom holding her as a baby that she carries around in her necklace.

because she feels her life is so... small. her world is so tiny, she tries to explore other worlds through books and movies, music... anything that’ll make her fly away from this earth for awhile is welcome.

she absolutely loves hearing stories & will drop everything she’s doing to hear someone telling her an interest tale.

she’s young and naive, she doesn’t have a lot of freedom & grew up quite sheltered, so she doesn’t understand how the world works very well.

she also has like this tarantula as a pet bc... idk why she has weird taste i effing hate spiders. get margot tf away from me pandora I DON’T LIKE IT

she just likes collecting bugs. it’s a hobby of hers, she’s not grossed-out easily i guess ??
