Thaïs « Big T » Énorme Bg Abraham par moi le 30septembre a 0:28, 0:33 et 0:38
Concept:

Main question / Sources / Timeframe of my research project
In this research project, I will talk about Jorja Smith and her political activism. The reasons I decided to chose this topic are that Jorja Smith is one of my favorite singer and that I wanted to tackle a subject that had never been talked about. Jorja Smith is becoming more and more famous, I believed it was the right time to do it, as for the moment, very few people have written about her and her songs.
At first I wanted to tackle the way she advocates for feminism AND Black Lives matter but I think that I will try to focus on only one subject : Black Lives Matter. Indeed, I realized that I did not found many primary sources nor secondary sources on her feminist activism.
I will only focus on Jorja Smith’s political activism, especially the ways in which she promotes and tries to raise questions on racism. I will have a good look on her first and only album Lost and Found (2018) but also on other songs that she launched later on. I will examine songs, so the lyrics but also some of her video clips, which sometimes clearly illustrate her political activism. I will also study some interviews she did, in which she talks about some songs of hers which are also linked to the question of racism.
Here you have the primary sources I’ll use :
—SONGS :
Come over
Blue Lights
Blue Lights feat Dosseh (Remix)
By any means
Peng black girls
—CLIP VIDEOS :
Blue lights
Blue Lights feat Dosseh (Remix)
Come over with Popcan
Come Over with OBOY
Peng Black Girls : ENNY
—INTERVIEWS :
Clique Talk — Jorja Smith
Interview Brut : Jorja Smith
Colorism in Lost and Found
BBC RADIO : Jorja talks Drake, Braids, Skin Color and Self Confidence
My key questions will therefore be : How does Jorja Smith’s work advocate for Black Lives Matter and racism in general? How is her political activism so relevant nowadays ?
Regarding the time frame, as Jorja Smith is very young and has only launched one album, I’ll be looking at the beginning of her career until now. I believe her career started when she was very young because she wrote her most famous song (Blue Lights) when she was only 17 and this song is actually one of the most activist she did. Jorja Smith was very much influenced by her father, who also wrote songs and listened to many black artists, whom inspired her.
I believe the theme I have chosen, so her political activism and the question of racism in her work, is very relevant nowadays due to what’s happening in the world regarding racism. Indeed, in many of her songs and video clips Jorja reacted or referenced to the Black Lives Matter movement, which is, due to George Floyd’s death particularly, more widespread than before.
Moreover, police violence and discrimination against (young) black people are some very old issues that are still not really address. I believe her songs greatly reflects on those issues, especially Blue Lights and Peng Black Girls.
