Sandstorm would trust any Mercenaries like Doubledealer if he was still a Peaceful Gullible Paradronian
(I'm Happy that Sandstorm and Doubledealer are Not just Repaints with New Heads anymore like their Thrilling 30 Toys)

Sketches of how I'd like a TF card game to be like or something: Mostly made of bot cards, all the same size, with their altmodes on the side, each being an effect or something. Important relics could be cool, and maybe some scenes but only really iconic ones

Transformers: Mosaic #542 - "Guilty Trip"

wada sez: This prologue to Spotlight: Hot Rod also makes reference to Kup’s rescue in Spotlight: Kup, while Blurr shows up in the body he used for his Spotlight: Blurr debut. These three The Transformers: The Movie characters are kind of a trio in the toyline and Marvel UK comics, so this strip serves to establish a similar connection between them in IDW continuity. “Wreckless” is a typo; apparently Shinn corrected it, but the Mosaic editors never got around to updating the version of the strip they had live.

Rodimus Prime’s Corner - Doubledealer is a ruthless, battle-ready bot for rent. A traitorous backstabber. Only loyal to the highest bidder. Valued by all, trusted by none. When binary-bonded to Knok, Doubledealer disguises himself as an Autobot robot. When binary-bonded to the bat creature, Skar, Doubledealer transforms into a Decepticon falcon.

Hmm, potential options for those sent by Shockwave:
Blurr. I love TFA Blurr and have a soft spot for ShockBlurr plus he trusts Longarm entirely given he had the Decepticons are invading news and still went to him first instead of calling up the Magnus/Leadership despite Shockwave being out of the way at the Space Bridge. Or, at least, that's my interpretation.
Doubledealer, always fun to use less well-known characters and fun tie in to other characters if needed.
Punch/Counterpunch, works for both Decepticons and Autobots and is an interesting unused character.
Jazz, who apparently was a spy for Longarm before getting promoted to Elite Guard/Sentinel Babysitter. Plus it's Jazz.
Rosanna/Flip Sides, a contact who could get them in as a preform and seemingly unknown if she's playing Autobot or Decepticon.
Or maybe a mix. Like some combination of the others sent by Longarm and Rosanna getting them in or something. Thoughts?
Okay so, idea
Blurr and Doubledealer maybe? Because I too cannot resist ShockBlurr because I have emotions about Shockwave trying to be better for Blurr instead of what went down in canon

Reread: Spotlight: Hot Rod
This book seems a bit more focused than some previous Spotlights, quickly setting up the idea of Hot Rod/Rodimus as a risk-taker but also, usefully, the complicated relationship he has with guilt and responsibility. Specifically, the part where he says he likes solo missions because then ‘my life - and my life alone - [is] on the line’ is interesting. Although this book was written well before Autocracy and does not work perfectly with it, I think this Spotlight still draws on a lot of the themes that would go on to be picked up by later books.
The Magnificence is mentioned here but never really used. Overall, though, I quite liked a lot of the execution. I liked the parallel stories, I think Nick Roche’s art and grasp of facial expressions helps an awful lot and possibly compensates for some of the thinner spots in the writing - Dealer’s face when he looks at Hot Rod while they escape the planet is a good example of this.
Tumblr media
Regarding Dealer/Doubledealer, I quite like plot-line and its implied future consequences for Hot Rod, as he learns of and responds to the betrayal. However I almost preferred the story when there was an element of potential blame (even accidental) for Rodimus in the Ki-Aleta mission. Nevertheless, Dealer walked so that Getaway could run, and I liked the ending and the decision to cut it off where it was instead of rushing things in order to fit in some kind of resolution or confrontation. Leaving this Spotlight more open-ended seems like a good move.
It is a little simple, but I think this was pretty well-executed. Kind of surprising, as I think I didn’t care for it at all the first time I read it.

Transformers: Mosaic #392 - "Human Component: Clouder"
Originally posted on June 18th, 2009
Story - Jim Sorenson Art - Iván Mas Letters - Carlos Oliveros
deviantART | Seibertron | TFW2005 | BotTalk
wada sez: Holy smokes, it’s Jim! Jim Sorenson is best known as the guy behind The AllSpark Almanac, Ask Vector Prime, Beast Wars Uprising, and a bunch of insanely cool and stupefyingly dorky stuff like that. A longtime fan of Mas’s artwork, Jim would regularly share pieces on his own blog, Disciples of Boltax, resulting in the partnership for this strip. For this strip’s release, he would give his own commentary, which I’ve archived below; sadly, this would be the only Mosaic strip Sorenson would write, although Mas evidently enjoyed their collaboration. As for the strip’s contents—Clouder is a young man who pilots the “Doubleclouder” Transtector, better known in the west as Doubledealer.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My first Mosaic piece went out today. As long-time readers of this blog no doubt know, I'm a big fan of the art of fan artist Iván Mas. That's why I decided to collaborate with Iván and Synapse (AKA Carlos Oliveros) on their ongoing 'Human Component' series of mosaics. The first piece in the series was Minerva; look for more in the future.
Basically, 'Human Component' seeks to get into the heads of the 15 men and women of the Masterforce conflict. With Clouder, I felt that the core of his character was his moral dilemma and wanted to touch on why he might choose, initially, to side with the Destrons without hitting the reader over the head.
It's also interesting that, of the folks in Masterforce, he's the only character who actively seeks to get involved in the conflict. Everyone else was recruited by outside forces. I think there is a reason for that, too. Note that the Masterforce Bracelets come pre-adorned with a faction sigil on them. Basically, the Road King transtector was always destined to fall into the hands of someone noble of heart and pure of spirit. Likewise, the Overlord transtector, a pair of Destron bodies, needed to find people ruthless enough to use it. But the Clouder transtector has within it the potential to serve with either side. I think, in a sense, this Transtector needed to fall into the hands of someone outside of the conflict, someone who could approach both sides and then choose for himself.
On a side note, I've seen some evidence recently that suggests that early drafts of Masterforce had TWO humans for Doubleclouder, just as Overlord does. Certainly, with two Godmaster figures, that would have been the more obvious direction to go. I suppose that the human Godmaster components would have battled it out for Doubleclouder's spark. That could have been fun, but putting both sets of armor in one person's hands I think allowed them to tell some interesting stories and explore some interesting themes.
Let me know what you think! If you like it, I've got a few more one-page stories to tell ...

Rodimus and making Necessary Sacrifices
The most famous one: blowing up Nyon
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Btw Megatron could totally have saved the people in Nyon if he wanted to; he knew about Zeta's plan beforehand. All he needed to do was give Hot Rod and the citizens an evacuation alert. But he didn't because he wanted to give Optimus a good emotional impact with all the deaths and who cares about the common lowlife anyway, all they're good for is getting bodily thrown at Zeta until his weapon overloads from draining too many people.
Kimia station in Chaos Theory:

Red text bubble is Optimus. He doesn't wait for Optimus to agree before directly giving Omega Supreme orders to shoot Kimia down.
Reaction after confirming that Doubledealer is a traitor:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Using Rung as bait for the sparkeater:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The last two panels also gives us something on how he views (his own) authority. Because while he's always held a position of authority in high command, the high command is still a council. On the ship his authority is absolute.
The next three scenarios form a pattern. It always starts with Rodimus telling someone to kill a comrade, the person tasked with the killing goes 'what I don't want to do that', and Rodimus tones down the order from death to wound.
Ordering Rewind and Swerve to shoot at Fort Max:

Ordering Swerve to hurt Ore:

Ordering Cyclonus to shoot Brainstorm:
Tumblr media
Each of these scenarios is in response to a critical situation. Rodimus' first orders of 'aim to kill' are, while extreme, not disproportionate to the level of threat presented. They're within reason and authority. And ceding from kill to wound when protested is proof that he doesn't not care. But it also shows that his first instinctual reaction towards threats is to kill first ask questions later, even if the threat used to be his friend, comrade, or compatriot, he's able to weigh the lives on a scale and make that hard decision. He's also the type of person who's very comfortable with taking the fates other people into his own hands and deciding whether they should live or die (which is why him choosing to spare Getaway after retaking the Lost Light is a sign of character growth).
His characterization is fairly consistent throughout the comics, except for this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Everything in Spotlight Hot Rod goes against his later presentations. In his spotlight he's said to repeatedly beat himself up over one failed mission and is averse to taking responsibility towards other people for fear that he'd get them killed but in later issues he has No Problems doing exactly that. He displays no preferences for 'going solo' aside from the mission to retrieve the matrix and that's because everyone else kicked him out. When he wanted to leave on the Lost Light he made speeches to convince other people to join him despite the fact the Autobots were already outnumbered on Cybertron and taking people away would make their situation worse. Whenever he went anywhere in mtmte he assembled a team to accompany him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This scene especially contradicts Spotlight Hot Rod in every single way. The only consistent aspect of his character is the recklessness. He forces Optimus to authorize a rescue mission, of which he declares himself the team leader, ignores Optimus' caution about keeping it clandestine and tells everyone to barge through the front door, shuts Ironhide's objections down by pulling rank, then falls into a trap and gets Ironhide killed. Mission failed too obviously, they only got Prowl out. Optimus takes responsibility for the failure and surrenders to the humans, of which Rodimus' response is: "he freaked out because he couldn't hack it" and promptly also proceeds to drop everything and leave because yay there's no one to keep me on this stupid planet anymore and whoever wants to can come with. Where. is the guilt.
That and the whole fiasco with Swindle and Menasor were probably Rodimus' worst moments lol. Overall he's the type of leader good with stressful trolley problems but bad at considering the larger or long-term implications of his actions. His flippancy towards life and death and tendency to solve problems with the bluntest approach bleeds heavily into his leadership decisions and... just how his character is in general. Thank goodness there's only one of Drift and he's gone for most of the Lost Light voyage, Rodimus really doesn't work well with too many yes-men hanging around.

Sorry for another long one. I am basically planning this out while gushing about it. Now into some more juicy SG Autobot dynamics.
Goldbug is definitely jealous of the "new baby". He has been undisputedly Tarn's favorite (he reminds him of Glitch) and it is clear to everyone that Amp is special. Goldbug does not take this well and complains to the others in the squad about it.
Mainly, Thunderclash who is using him as a shield from Rodimus who won't stop making doe eyes at him. Not that Thunderclash recognizes it. Tarn said everyone had to spar to help work out some tensions and Rodimus went for him and Thunderclash managed to catch and pin him. He's thoroughly convinced that Rodimus wants him dead. But it's well known he cannot stand Goldbug.
Everyone else is well aware Rodimus wants him distinctly not dead and thoroughly somewhere else because a.) Rodimus likes big bots (see Ultra Magnus and that brief flirtation with Optimus), b.) Rodimus is definitely trying to get close to one of Tarn's and potentially manipulate them, and c.) Rodimus is under the mistaken impression that Thunderclash, no name loser Goldbug thinks with almost fondness, has a crush on him because Thunders is always unfailingly polite and helped Rodimus up and brushed him off and strictly follows Tarn's "Proper Manners" to a T. So basically Thunderclash acted like a perfect gentleman which was high above Roddie's minimal standards. Rodimus clearly wants an ego boost and is going for it and the more he is denied the more he wants.
Goldbug despairs for Thunders intellect and his Spark when Rodimus gets a hold of him.
Jazz though is listening and Jazz likes to start stuff and is testing out Tarn's boundaries and has a good idea on Goldbug and Amp's personalities. So he encourages Goldbug to do something about it. Thunderclash is very distrustful and Goldbug feels vindicated.
Goldbug hunts Amp down, sneaking into that side of the base, and finds him reading over poetry. Goldbug decided to test him out and is startled to find he is recognized on sight. Amp beams at him and mentions that Tarn had told him about his team and he couldn't wait to meet them.
Goldbug invites him on a Hunt and the bubbly Amp agrees.
They are hunting down a traitor named Doubledealer. Upon hearing this Amp speaks very coldly for the first time and says "Traitors should be punished." Goldbug jerks because it sounds like Tarn. They work together somewhat clumsily and Amp ends up saving Goldbug who gets caught up and knocked unconscious. Goldbug wakes up to Doubledealer dead allegedly from being electrocuted by the building wires of the apartment he collapsed on them and Amp caring for Goldbug.
Goldbug and Amp bond and Goldbug becomes protective of his "delicate" friend and when they come back he notes strange burns on Doubledealer's wrists but doesn't think much of it.
Amp meanwhile goes back home humming and pleased with himself. Tarn has been very careful teaching him about loyalty and Decepticons and Jazz has been covering loyalty and getting information. Amp has found he has a knack for information and has been stalking all of the Seekers and making profiles about them and hacking Blaster’s feeds and the communication system. Killing was uncomfortable but he remembered what Tarn taught him and that he needed to protect Goldbug (his new friend!) and managed it.
Amp was totally playing Goldbug but now Goldbug has decided they are friends and will be introducing him to the others. Jazz notes him sneaking in and teases him about "collecting bugs with honey". Jazz has taken to Amp as well and made some comments about mentoring himself, which had terrified Prowl. Amp is training with both of them under Tarn's protective instructions.
Amp is determined to make his mentor proud and happily brings him Doubledealer's body and looks up for praise. Optimus is there and watches Tarn praise Amp with a strange look before hesitating and patting Amp's head and telling him he did well. Amp is thrilled because his other pseudo mentor is much more distant usually.
Goldbug is 100% way so jealous.
The idea of sg Thunderclash clinging to Goldbug as sg Roddie repellant is hilarious, even more hilarious that sg Rodimus is down bad.
Thunderclash i don't think Roddie wants your head, at leat not the one you think he wants
SG Rodimus playing minigames with himself
oh sg thunderclash you're trying and what that has gotten you is a stalker
Jazz: shitstirrer extraordinaire
Ohhhoh? Goldbug and Amp rivals (at least a one sided rivalry on Goldie's part) to friends?
...hm. interesting, amp, interesting.
Dear fuck Amp is gonna get terrifying quick isn't he
.... a penny for Optimus's thoughts? Because he's either slightly afraid (unusual) or jealous of his pet Lord's mentee (more likely, has severe consequences)
