Confession
pairing: Kozume Kenma x gn!reader
wc: 0.6k
tw/cw: a poor attempt at writing aaaaaaaaaangst lol, angst to fluff with a bit of crack, implied Nekoma!reader + Nekoma!Kenma, lowkey mutual pining + childhood friends to lovers, some walking out 🤷🏻‍♀️ also another word dump i’m so sorryyyyyyyy 😭😂🙈🤦🏻‍♀️
a/n: for @tetsvhoe’s “Please Don’t Say You Love Me” collab—thanks for letting me join last-minute 😘 I was torn between doing the confession idea and a Kagehina doujinshi-inspired modern fantasy au (wherein cat!reader is being taken care of by Kenma etc etc) tbh. Thank you for beta-reading this wifey @atsuminthe and bb @lumpiang-toge 😘🥰🤟🏻♥️
Tumblr media
“Here, Kenma!” You shoved a pink stationery envelope into your best friend’s line of sight—practically blocking the POP’s screen, your hands slightly shaking, cheeks flushing. You couldn’t take a look at his expression so you looked down on your brown school loafers.
Kenma annoyingly paused the game he’s playing on his POP and took it from you. He examined the envelope quietly. “What’s this?”
“That? Um, i-it’s a love letter, silly!” you stuttered, bringing your palm to your face. “Don’t you know what a love letter is? Haven’t you got one before?” This guy…
“O-of course I know what a love letter is, Y/N, I’m not stupid,” Kenma stammered back in defense, his head held further down so as to hide his flustered face. “And it’s addressed… to me?” He turned to look at you for a moment before he spoke. “You... like me?”
You slowly nodded, removing your hand on your blushing face, your eyes looking back at his own golden ones. “I like you, I really like you! Ever since we were kids, I’ve always liked you—more than a friend! I don’t know why… but I’m excited to see you whenever I go to your house to play games with you; even when Tetsu-kun is around, it’s like… it’s like my heart’s bursting whenever I see or talk to you!”
You fiddled with the hem of your school blazer, gripping it a bit tightly. “I know it’s weird getting confessed to by your best friend,” you said, your words laced with nervous laughter. Kenma, on the other hand, just blinked at you, his golden eyes wide and searching for an answer. The tips of his partly-hidden ears as well as his round cheeks were still dusted with red, and his Adam’s apple kept on bobbing; he slowly processed what you’ve said minutes ago to mind.
Embarrassment soon went up to your face and you averted your eyes from looking at him, your throat suddenly drying up. “Well… I guess I’ve said it all, all the pent-up feelings I’ve been hiding inside me for years.” Kenma wanted to say something but you cut him off. “I-it's okay if you'll reject me. It's okay if you don't feel the same. It's fine if you reject my confession I… let’s just forget this conversation never existed, go back to normal, and… I have to go.” You slowly turned on your heels and started walking away, wishing a sinkhole just ate you up already to release you from your own embarrassment and misery.
You didn’t want to hear what he says, what he feels about you, and it’s better that way. It may look like unrequited feelings, a one-sided love… but at least you’ve told him how you feel, that you’re in love with Kenma, your best friend. Best friend.
“I love you!”
You stopped walking abruptly as you heard those three short words being yelled from behind by the same best friend you’ve confessed to minutes ago. You turned around to see him bent down and leaning on his knees, catching up his breath, the redness more evident on his determined face. His golden catlike eyes staring at your own, he opened his mouth to speak.
“L/N Y/N, I love you, ever since you and your family moved to that house next door to us. You saw me peeking through my window and waved at me, and that precious smile’s been deeply engraved into my heart until now. I love your smile, how your eyes twinkle whenever you listen to me talk about video games and volleyball and stuff, your sweet voice—everything! You made me realize how special I am to you, and you to me. I don’t like you… but I love you!” He huffed, his head bowed down. “You… it’s rude to walk away after confessing your love to someone without even listening to their re—“
Kenma was too occupied in his litany that he didn’t notice you sprinting towards him and hugging him tightly, interrupting his monologue. He then heard a faint sniffle and smiled, hugging you back and kissing the side of your head.
“Silly Kenma…”

Hi Niu! I'm going to Japan for the first time ever next month! I'm very excited! I'm planning on doing Tokyo, Nara, and Kyoto over the span of a month! Can you recommend any sights to stop by? And any good stores or malls? Thank you!
OH BOY! Can I recommend you a thing or two :DFor transportation between Tokyo-Nara (aka Tokyo - Osaka) I recommend bus service. Takes 8 hours and they operate around the clock. A LOT cheaper than a train! Willer Express offers tickets also in English. You need to book and buy them beforehand: https://willerexpress.com/en/If you want to use trains (a lot) buy yourself a Japan Train Pass BEFORE you go to Japan. In Kansai you can also get yourself Kansai Pass from tourist info (take passport with you). With Kansai Pass you can travel around Kansai freely for 3 days. You don’t have to use all the 3 days at once, but whenever you like; for example one day at the beginning of month, second in the middle and the last one at the end of your trip. The pass is valid for a month and it costs 5 000 yens.I don’t know about other places, but if you happen to stay in Osaka, you can buy yourself Osaka Subway Day Ticket, which is 800 yen in weekdays and 600 yen on weekends. It’s valid for 24 hours and you can use subways freely with it.
From Osaka to Kyoto, please use Keihan train service line. With Keihan line the trip to Kyoto costs less than 5 00 yens and takes around 45 minutes. From Osaka to Nara, please use Kintetsu train service.
TOKYO,OSAKA, NARA, KYOTO- If you are interested in manga/dojin/anime stuff. visit Ikebukuro in Tokyo (as it has stuff for women, Akihabara is more for men), and Den Den Town in Osaka. To get to Ikebukuro (Tokyo), take Yamanote line train to Ikebukuro and take Exit 25 from Ikebukuro’s station. There’s Toranoana next to Exit 25, which has dojinshi for women. To get to Den Den Town (Osaka), take subway to Nippombashi station and take Exit 5. Go south towards Ebisucho station, this street is Den Den Town street full of stuff! There’s K-Books you should visit; it has got anime stuff and 2 floors doujinshi!- In Kyoto there’s lovely little town Arashiyama. Go here if you want to see bamboo forest! You can take a train from Kyoto to Arashiyama easily. It has got lots of temples and wonderful river!- In Kyoto, there’s Fushimi Inari mountain; the mountain with endless amount of Japanese torii-gates. Definitely worth of visiting (takes hours to wander there without hurry, so it’s good idea to take one day for Fushimi Inari and back some snack with you). You can take a train from Kyoto to Fushimi Inari. OVERALL PLACES TO VISIT IN JAPAN:- 100 yen shops. Seriously, don’t buy anything from anywhere else. There’s no need to pay 600 yen for a rice bowl when you can get a one as good as that with 100 yen.100 yen shops are HUGE and they have EVERYTHING you can possibly imagine; food, stationery, socks, bath, cleaning, home decor, car items, gardening, laundry, kitchen, table ware, tea, bags, DIY, cosmetics, keychains, statues, soaps. Biggest 100 yen shop companies are Daiso and Seria. Daiso has got groceries unlike other 100 yen shops. Besides Daiso and Seria, there are independent 100 yen shops. These 100 yen shops are everywhere; I’m staying in Shigino and in 15 minute walk away to all directions there are four 100 yen shops; two Daisos, one independent shop and one Seria. Closest one is next doors lol.- Note that prices in Japan are always written without 8% tax, so don’t get surprised when the total sum is a bit bigger than you anticipated.- LOFT is wonderful department store company you should visit! - BOOK OFF is number one for comics and books. Prices are between 100-300 yen. These are also available in many places. There’s big one in Akihabara, Tokyo.- Buy yourself a travel card (Suica or Pasmo in Tokyo, Icoca or PitaPita in Osaka). The travel card is valid everywhere in Japan, so it doesn’t matter do you have Suica or Icoca. The machines at train/subway stations, which sell the cards and where you can load more money to your card always have English option.- Buy yourself a small hand towel from 100y shop, as Japanese public toilets don’t have hand towels/hand paper.- Food is expensive, unless you can eat rice and noodles without problems. - Always carry cash with you. Card payment is still rather rare in Japan.

I’ve always loved the armor Kei Takano designed for Kain in this beautiful piece of doujinshi stationery, so I commissioned autumn-sacura to create a full rendition of it in the vein of her palette challenge series. I was planning to commission a background...but I feel it’s unfair to keep the art to myself any longer.

hi!! hope this question won't be a hassle but i will be going to osaka too for a week in a while. i was wondering what you particularly enjoyed doing in osaka? osaka seems like it has many great places to visit omg
No hassle at all! I gladly talk about one of my fave cities :D
If you happen to be in Osaka in 21st or 22nd day of the month, you should go to Shintennoji’s Temple market. It’s a second hand shop where you can get kimonos, hakamas, obis, ceramics, traditional Japanese items and design ect. starting from 100 yen. More info here!
If you love doujinshi, you have to go to K-Books in Den Den Town. Take subway to Nipponbashi station and take exit 5. You will see a bridge in front of you, so turn around and start walk away from the bridge (towards Ebisucho’s subway station). You’ll find K-Books from that street; there’s anime and manga stuff, and 2 floors doujinshis Dodonbori Road is tourist attraction spot, that has got Disney Store and Sanrio store (with 3 floors yay!) and just next to it also 100 yen shop Daiso. I recommend seeing it, especially at early (around 10-11 am). Take subway to Namba station and follow the guidance towards Dodonbori Road exit. Namba is overall wonderful place! Umeda is HUGE place that has got plenty of BIG department store buildings (like 17 floors shops only). There’s Kiddy Land with Rilakkuma, Miffy, Snoopy, Sanrio ect. in Umeda station. It’s under renovation now and opens again in 17th of March. Umeda has got two Loft department stores (there’s one in Namba, take exit 5 and turn right towards OiOi store, cross the street and turn again to right from front of OiOi). I love Lofts and also Tokyo Hands, as they’ve got plenty of stationery! In Umeda there’s Umeda Sky Building. I’m not sure but I think you should be able to go freely to its cafe, which is located in 40th floor. To get to Umeda Sky Building, take train to Osaka station. Take Central Exit and cross the street on your far right. There’s underway passage (you’ll see it easily) on your left; head there and walk it through and ta dah, you’re in front of Umeda Sky Building. Osaka has got Japan’s second biggest aquarium, if marine animals inspire you. Osaka Kaiyukan Aquarium is located in Osaka-ko. You can take subway Chuo Line (to Cosmos Square) to get there. Next to Kaiyukan there are regular tourist attraction shops where you can sometimes make good findings, like nice big towels. Many BIG department stores like Daimaru and Takashiyama have got big food areas in the basement floor, where you can get quality snacks, chocolates, artisan Japanese food, bakery and also traditional Japanese sweets like fresh and warm taiyakis. Definitely worth of visiting! There’s also cheap and easy way to go to Kyoto (Keihan line takes you there by train less than 500 yens) and Nara (the place with domestic wild deer!).
I hope this helps you! My fave places are definitely Namba, Umeda, Shintennoji (old style) and all doujinshi stores, Lofts and 100 yen shops lol.
P.S.Please don’t buy anything from anywhere else except 100 yen shops (Daiso, Seria, Can Do, other independent 100y companies). You’ll get anything you can possibly imagine from 100 yen shops (Daiso is the only one with food, candy, drinks and ice cream). There’s no need to pay 600-1000 yen for a rice bowl when you can get them from 100y shops.
