Okay, I hate to say it, but man would not fall for a pirate, even if he did, he would refuse to admit it. He’s a marine, they are a pirate, they hate each other, they are bound by the law of One Piece physics to despise one another.

 I can only see him liking a pirate if they were an ex pirate who turned themselves in. I know, I’m sorry, but I really don’t see him liking any pirate, let alone romantically. 

So for the sake of the story, we will say they are an ex Whitebeard pirate (which works since they are disbanded)

He would feel some empathy towards you for losing your family, and this might be how the romance starts between you two. 

Once he gets to understand you better, he sees that you are more than just a pirate, that you did these things out of choices for survival, that not all pirates are wrong. 

Eventually defends you when people try to harass you for once being a pirate and how “weak” Whitebeard was. To him this is now becoming personal, something he never expected to happen. 

Takes time away after awhile, stating he needs space to recollect his thoughts. He’s starting to question everything he fought for and isn’t sure how to feel anymore. 

You’ll have to come to him, man will avoid you like the plague in the meantime. After talking, he finally comes into conclusion that not everything is black and white. 

As you two grow closer over the next few months, he’s a stuttering tsundere who tries to act tough, but deep down you know this man is just as soft as a teddy bear.
