The Xehanort Redemption that people are complaining about at the end of KH3 wasn’t really a redemption so much as it was people other than Xehanort coming to an understanding about his motivations, and Xehanort coming to realize that Sora was Right and that he wasn’t the sort of person who could pull off what he was wanting to do. That’s not a redemption, its a mollifying turn of events at best. It doesn’t say that he’s a good person or that he’s ‘better now’, it’s just that the aggression with which he was pursuing his goal got removed and he was no longer so blinded by his goals that he saw them as the only way for things to move forward.

People are acting like the motivations are new and have been retconned and that xehanort is “secretly good now” or w/e but like... They’re motivations that the audience could have put together with ease if they’d actually been paying attention to the lore and what he says in not just the english versions of the games but also the japanese versions of the games where there’s less misunderstandings due to mistranslations if u look at the translation analysis like... If I could damn near peg Xehanort’s motivation to the letter on my Xehanort blog when I wasn’t trying to make him redeemable or good, just a magnificent bastard with realistic and understandable motivations.

It’s really not worth complaining about just because you wanted him to be absolutely awful and darkness obsessed because it’s not like we got blind sided with the motivations or the fact that he covets n respects the light like.... literally one of the opening lines of khux is “people coveted the lights and darkness was born in their hearts” or smthn along those lines and he’s the character w/ the most darkness in their hearts we see in the entire series who doesn’t end up falling to it, it only makes sense that he was doing what he was doing for the light, misguided and full of himself as he was.

Just because Xehanort’s motivations didn’t make sense to you bc you were busy demonizing him and turning him into a monster in your head doesn’t mean they don’t make sense at all. They make perfect sense not just for him but also within the larger context of the series and the keyblade war mythos itself. He’s not a good guy, but he was trying to do good. Just because he thought that the way to do that was war and wiping the slate clean doesn’t make him any less a classic case of the misguided zealot trope, it just makes him more wrong.

As laid back as Tsura could be around him, knowing that he had sharp scissors where she couldn’t see or move away from only brought panic, and panic meant she could only try to tear away from him with more force. ‘Let me go and I’ll change it!’

His eyes narrowed, but he released her, snapping the scissors menacingly.

HEART OF A VILLAIN (ACCEPTING)

Not really. Which sounds pretty bad. He’s willing to do anything he can in order to get to his goal and he is willing to kill innocents or put them in danger to get to it. When it comes to children, he will never physically torture them. Torturing children leaves a particularly bad taste in Marluxia’s mouth but its a line that he’s willing to toe. Genocide is another thing he does not like to partake in and will never systematically kill people for the sake of killing them, there has to be a purpose in which he’s doing the killing. Even if he does kill innocents there’s always a reason for doing so. Killing for the sake of killing is disgusting to him (even if he loves the bloodlust).

Perhaps because they feel more at ease in a group, they stick to others they find. They end up looking like a cloud.

They’re certainly a precious sort, and she smiles against herself. She reaches out to run her fingers across the soft fluff atop its head, giving it a few affectionate scritches. For all of her attention, she knows that its typing would keep it from becoming a companion.
