Great Expectations

Almost as soon as the group of Rebels returned to District 13 from a semi-successful raid at the Capitol, Drew had booked himself a seat on one of the trains to return back home to District 10.  Their last mission wasn't anything extravagant of Drew, not like Aspen's battle strategies anyways. He usually liked to take offensive positions, just to keep an eye on his Little Calf. But this time he was assigned to sit in the hovercraft and make sure nobody tried to somehow sneak a 600 pounds helicopter into their pocket.

The entire ride to District 10 was an emotional low for the Victor. The closer and closer he got to his fiancee's house, the worse the pain in his chest got. He thought for sure the ride back to 12 and then the aircraft to 13 would be easier, but the diamond ring that Valerie had flung at him wasn't sitting in his pocket easily.

Drew took a moment in his bunker to stare into the mirror and splash some cold water onto his face. Don't let them see you broken... Don't give them what they want... he repeated to himself as his face slowly began to build up into a mask of confidence and humour. They needed their jokester around these parts, and he wasn't one to fail the people he cared about.

He took the stairs two at a time, the small staircase leading from the bunkers to the training rooms wasn't far away from where he tried to get to sleep every night. He found her quite easily, he simply closed his eyes and listened for the sound of metal upon metal and some heavy swearing. He felt an involuntary smile creep upon his face as he padded to follow her, leaning up against the small metal bleachers.

"You having fun there, Blondie?"
