Making Very Random Assumptions About You Based On Your YTTD Kin
Sara Chidouin - You have a lot of stuffed animals and have named each one, you’ve listened to the new Olivia Rodrigo album at least once,  you bottle up your feelings and then you explode about something small when really there’s much longer overarching issue’s.
Joe Tazuna - You have a really weird but impressive skill set like you can shoot down a fly with a rubber band or something to that extent, you’re very analytical about characters and could write a good character analysis, you give a lot of finger guns or peace signs.
Gin Ibushi - You’ve spent hours on Animal Jam, you like Studio Ghibli movies, and you’ve had a nightcore phase.
Keiji Shinogi - You like fast food more than homecooked meals, if you’ve watched Bojack Horseman one of your favorite episodes is “Stupid Piece Of Shit”, you might have watched a lot of cop shows when you were a kid but you fully believe in ACAB now.
Alice Yabusame - Hello LGBT+ community, you want to be a rebel but most of the time you’re pretty rule abiding, you aren’t a violent person but if someone bothers your friends you’re going to punch someone.
Reko Yabusame - You want a sword, you curse a lot in your inner monologue but don’t swear much outwardly unless you’re around friends, you jokingly threaten to fight people or characters often.
Nao Egokoro - You can’t focus on your schoolwork/job but you can write a novel length fanfiction or draw a Picasso art piece without breaking focus, you’re interested in astrology, you’re a magnet for weird things. If something’s going to happen it will be to you.
Kazumi Mishima - You talk a lot with your hands, you have a really good memory when it comes to the people you care about, you can read people’s emotions very easily it’s hard for people to hide their feelings from you.
Q-taro Burgerberg - You’ve broken a bone before, you have the most likelihood of being tall compared to the other kins (no science behind it,, it’s just the vibes.), you love to listen to the sounds of nature like bird songs or a river flowing.
Kai Satou - The one thing you don’t relate too about Kai is his posture, you’re a cat person, Earth or air sign vibes.
Kanna Kizuchi - Under 5′6 gang, you love the sound of music boxes, you want to be a plant person but you can never keep one alive.
Shin Tsukimi - Your hands are always cold, you have a concerning amounts of near death experiences. , you either really believe in ghosts, or you claim to not believe in ghosts, but if you saw a shadow out of the corner of your eye, you’re calling an exorcist.
Dolls
Ranmaru Kageyama - You’ve been tired since 2015, you really wanted to have a goth/emo/punk phase but your parents wouldn’t let you, Creepypasta or Slenderverse phase vibes.
Naomichi Kurumada - You were automatically drawn to him because his hair color is a vibe, you’re very chill about big life events but you will die on a hill over small inconsequential events, you’re a hat person.
Anzu Kinashi - The first phase you had as a child was something most adults considered weird like clowns or rocks, Tumblr is the only social media you find tolerable, you’re very forgetful.
Mai Tsurugi - You’re very passive aggressive when angry, you sleep holding a pillow or pressing your back to one, you were interested in YTTD because someone explained it being like Danganronpa.
Shunsuke Hayasaka - You don’t watch video’s/tv shows/movies as much as you use them as background music, you don’t do well working because you’re always daydreaming, you overthink thinks a lot you worry about things like whether you’re standing awkwardly or not.
Hinako Mishuku - You had an Anna Blue phase, You don’t get in a lot of arguments but you daydream yourself winning an argument whenever you’re frustrated, you watch either “Cinema Summary” or “Dead Meat” on YouTube.

KSB volume 12 interview with Takanaga Hinako
I didn’t have much time to do this translation when the volume came out but I have translated the interview that was in volume 12 now! please enjoy!
Tumblr media
A special interview with Takanaga Hinako-sensei
Q: Please tell us how you became a BL writer.
A: I had always looked up to manga artists ever since I was little but I figured out pretty quickly I didn't really have any talent and gave up on it (in about middle school?). After that I wanted to work with art so I thought I'd go to art college and then get a job as a designer and maybe someday become an independent illustrator, so I was on that path to being an ordinary (?) person, but after I started my job search I was super into "ashita no joe"...and I realized I could never not be on an otaku path and so I applied to things dealing with manga and I won an award from Hakusensha's BL magazine, and even though it was just an illustration award they asked me if I wanted to write a manga. And around that time I was really into ashita no joe so my head was full of all sorts of weird things, and I think it completely overwrote the memories of thinking I had no talent, so I took them up on it...
Q: Are there any occupational hazards of being a BL autor?
A: As a BL author? I wonder...? Like how unfortunately you can't picture in your head all the poses for the characters in your head... so you end up collecting more and more nude photos of guys in poses...?
Q: When you're drawing, what's the thing you enjoy most?
A: I don't really have anything I like doing... I don't really have anything I'm especially good at... I guess if I had to say something it would be erasing but I leave that up to my assistants now... Ah, I like using white out. And I'm happy when I'm finished.
Q: Is there anything you're bad at doing when working?
A: I don't think there's anything I'm good at so there's all sorts of things I think I'm bad at...
Q: When you're drawing, where do you start from?
A: The outline for the face. That's extremely normal.
Q: When you're making the manuscript, what is something you absolutely need?
A: If I don't have coffee my emotions and body both feel worse!
Q: When you're drawing manga, what's something you make sure to keep in mind?
A: How easy it is to understand and the pace of the story.
Q: In the "Koisuru Boukun and Challengers" series, what characters outside of morinaga and souichi do you like or maybe one that is most memorable?
A: There isn't a character I don't like so I like them all, but if I have to pick one then I guess isogai-san? It's too bad he can't appear often.
Tumblr media
Q: Please tell us what is most fun about drawing the "Koisuru Boukun and Challengers" series.
A: Ehh! That's a hard question. Challengers was the series that I debuted with, and I think it's because of Boukun that lots of people are reading this so I guess it must be that? I'm grateful to everyone for always reading♪
Q: What has been the most troubling thing about drawing the  "Koisuru Boukun and Challengers" series?
A: Back during Challengers I was really self conscious about drawing sex scenes (I love reading them but I thought that my art was more of a shojo manga style and so I thought the more graphic scenes didn't really fit the style and so I really didn't know how to draw them) I thought it would be better to have them but didn't know how to but them in well so it was troubling. After that I thought, this can't go on, so I wrote doujinshi to practice sex scenes and slowly became able to draw them. Now I enjoy drawing them♪ In Boukun I have trouble every time when I have to make souchi more soft and allowing things...
Q: What is a scene and phrase in the "Koisuru Boukun and Challengers" series that you like most?
A: This is from a long time ago but the sex scene in volume 3, where morinaga is touching souichi's nipples from behind. Even now I still think he has a good expression and the nipples are drawn well...
Tumblr media
And then actually I like the part in Masaki-san and Morinaga's older brother's story where he says "Why is it that it's my own heart I can't be free...!!" That whole scene up till that I like a lot.
Tumblr media
Q: What character in the "Koisuru Boukun and Challengers" series would you like to become? Please tell us why.
A: Ehh... I don't want to become any of them... but I'd like to be a part of morinaga-kun's family.
Tumblr media
Q: Out of all the characters you've written so far, which one is closest to your personality? (in this series)
A: Kurokawa-san. Scared every day like a small animal.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Q: What type of story would you like to write in the future?
A: I used to say fantasy but I'm writing one right now so... I'd like to write something more dark and super sexy.
Q: What is your favorite food?
A: I don't really have any likes or dislikes so I just like things that taste good! I like fish♪
Q: What is something you eat while working?
A: Well this is a drink but I need to have coffee! Recently I really like soup with boiled maitake and umeboshi in it. The calories are low so it's good for if you're a little hungry in the middle of the night.
Q: Please tell us your favorite color, or maybe one you find yourself using a lot when you're coloring?
A: I use orange from Holbein a lot. Skin tone is this color. If I want to make it more yellow I mix in a little bit of mexican yellow.
Q: Are there any works that have had a big influence on you? (This can be a book, movie, or picture or anything)
A: Well things that I was into that made my head all weird were "Glass Mask" and "Ashita no Joe" ...but I don't know if I'd say they influenced me? When I was into Glass I used to try to copy it all the time (this was in elementary school...)  This might be presumptuous but there are so many artists that I like. I especially feel like I've been influenced by things like Hagio Moto, Shimizu Reiko, Kouga Yun, and Shiina Takashi's romantic comedies.
Tumblr media
Q: Please tell us what things you're really into now.
A: I don't really have any stories I'm into right now it'd kinda sad. Thunderbolt Fantasy always interests me! This isn't a manga or anything but I like cosmetics. I really like things from SABON with the delicate jasmine scent I got into their body scrub first and then their lotion and hand cream next... twitter's best cosmetics articles are dangerous. Right now I'm looking for a good foundation.
Q: What type of character (it doesn't matter if they're uke or seme) do you tend to like?
A: It always has to be the stoic ones...! It's always the best when they get all thrown out of wack from sex. I always want my favorite characters to be ukes...
Q: What clubs were you in in school?
A: My first year in middle school I was in the gymnastics club but in my second year they started an art club so I entered that and the whole time after that I was in the art club. I went to an Art college so for some reason I joined the table tennis club (my senpai invited me and pretty much forced me to just be on the register) and the world music club. They weren't really active but it seems they only called themselves that during the new student reception time and they were actually a drinking club (or just fooling around)... (I also heard of a time they were arrested for causing a disturbance at a different time...) So I guess I wasn't really in a club in college and just focused on my studies every day~
Q: What do you do to improve your mood or refresh yourself?
A: I watch movies and dramas. I like comedy talk shows and the radio so they always make me feel better. And recently I've been playing games on my smartphone or browser games on my PC. Things like AbyssRium and The Battle Cats... and farming games (I play quite a lot, huh?)
Tumblr media
Q: If you had a long break, what's something you'd like to do or somewhere you'd like to go?
A: I've been saying I'd want to go to an onsen for years but I still haven't gone so I guess I don't really want to go... other than that I'd like to renovate my house.
Q: How do you decide on the characters' names?
A: I pretty much decide based on how they sound and the feeling they give me. I also search on the internet for name meanings to decide on kanji that best fits the character's personality and such.
Q: What kind of manga was the first manga you ever drew in your life?
A: I wrote one in a notebook with a pencil of someone with special powers... the title was "Roller" it's so chuuni it's embarrassing. It's my dark history. I gave it to a friend at the time so I have to pray that they've thrown it out by now.
Q: Is there any other type of job besides manga artist that you'd like to try?
A: Some type of craftsman. Like I'd like to learn some sort of traditional skill.
Q: What would you say if you could give yourself before you debuted any advice?
A: Keep exercising even after you debut! Strength and health are important! Do as much as you can to keep the body you have now!!! That's what I want to tell myself so bad!!!
Q: Please give us some advice for people who would like to become manga artists.
A: As long as you draw you'll get better so doing it faithfully every day is the quickest way. Designs and tracing is fine. I wish I had watched a ton of movies when I was a student so I really regret that so go ahead and please watch and read all the movies, manga, books, and arts that you enjoy while you're young! Thank you very much ♪

YTTD Thought Dump
Ok I didn’t liveblog this bc I was too busy yelling about it in Yaejin’s and Jenny’s inboxes but I’ve played/watched all parts of this game at least twice now and sometimes in multiple languages and I’m gonna dump all my thoughts and WMGs here bc I have QUESTIONS for Mr. Nankidai
Gashu said something about everyone being ~destined to be winners~, or something? Highly suspicious, what does this mean
Like is this a ZE situation or
In the quick draw minigame, Sou has the power of premonition. Why?
Esper confirmed, or is this just a hint at his secret knowledge?
Who is the unconscious person in the back of Miley's room?
Could it be Joe or Kai? Or maybe someone from the Hades incident?
Are ASU-NARO and the “””shady organization””” that won out in the Hades incident one and the same?
Hayasaka wonders aloud if the death game is for Sara's sake (Kai also mentions this in his letter to Sara). But why......
Miley claims that Gashu is trying to destroy the death game, and yet he takes his own life to continue it? Whose side is Gashu on? Whose side is Miley on?
Also Miley is the one who gives Sara the list of percentages...why
Who is the person Miley is talking to on the first floor? Some have theorized that Joe is the mastermind but it couldn't be, since we know Sara can recognize Joe by voice
Was this even Miley? The name label had a question mark after, could this have been someone else?
Why did Safalin help Sara by giving her Rio's chip? Whose side is she on?
The file from Kai's computer mentions that Joe should be “watched” because they can't add anyone else. Was Joe not supposed to be there? If they weren’t expecting him there, why was Shin able to start up the Joe AI? Did they have one prepared just in case?
There were only 9 monitors in the monitor room (Sara, Keiji, Shin, Mishima, Q-taro, Reko, Gin, Alice, Kanna), so it at least seems like there was no AI planned for him
Kai, Joe, and Kugie were some of the first to die. They were among the 4 who weren't candidates (besides Sou). We know that Nao was on that list, and Gashu purposely sabotaged her so that she would get the Sacrifice card. Did they really get unlucky, or were their deaths all planned?
Kai says his father says the death game's objective is neither pleasure not revenge. Then what is it for?
Shin, Keiji, and Reko seemed to recognize Sou's face when they see it on the laptop. But why did Kanna and Q-taro also recognize him? Could he also have been an orphan at Asunaro? And could he also be Kanna's biological brother?
If this is the case, this might explain Kanna's fondness for "Sou"
Also possible that Sou went out of his way to involve himself in all the participants’ lives
Sou was supposed to be a participant according to Kai's hacking, but he wasn't on the percentage sheet. We know that his death was over 2 years ago. What’s the timeline of his revival and of his involvement with the runners of this death game? Was he supposed to be a participant at one point, or was he always one of them?
The game supposedly revolves around Sara, but seems to have more connections to Sou. Was this intentional? Or did Sou hijack the game? Does Sou have any relation to Sara?
When searching the medical office with Gin, he mentions that he smells blood mixed with something burning. He says this regardless of whether Alice or Reko dies, so this must be something else. Is this Mishima's head? If not, what did they burn? And why?
Where is Mishima's head, anyway? Why did it disappear and why was it never discovered?
The memorandum features characters similar to those in this death game, including Sara. Some people also note that the actions of the narrator sound similar to Shin's. Was there a need to "replicate" that death game for some reason? Is it with the exact same people, or just similar people? Why?
The memorandum mentions that in that incident the high school girl's best friend died--was Joe's participation really unplanned then?
In the 2nd main game of that death game, a young boy and a man who she was aligned with died. This doesn't seem to match the reality of this game (Nao and Kanna/Shin)
The high school girl died in the 3rd "victim conference." Will this foreshadow events in the 3rd main game?
Gashu's hint: “Have you ever had doubts about your upbringing?” What does this mean? Could Asunaro have engineered every candidate's childhood in preparation for this game? Maybe to replicate the first death game by making the new participants as similar as possible?
Considering we don’t know Alice’s motive for murdering Sou, and Sou was able to manipulate Keiji into murdering Mr. Policeman, could Alice’s murder have been planned, too? Was Sou planning to be revived all along?
The portrait in Gashu's room was titled "Inauguration", which probably means he won the Hades incident death game and was inaugurated to the position of leader of the gangs. But since Sara doesn’t recognize them, this doesn’t seem to be Sara’s dad. How, then, is Sara’s dad involved?
Sara has a “dream” at the beginning of 2-2 of Shin bleeding out. Could this be a "hint" for what the "correct" choice is?
Sou says he wants everyone to know their "lost memories with [him]" and the reason Asunaro is having them kill each other. Does that mean they all know him? And are the two related? Did they wipe the participants' memories somehow?
Sara mentions Safalin's device, so this is definitely possible.
Is it possible the memory wipe was just before the events of 3-1? The participants didn't seem to react to Midori at all when they meet, even though they all had a strong reaction to seeing his face on the laptop earlier
Who died in the 4th floor locker room? It doesn't seem to be any of the dummies, but it's obviously not any of the survivors, Kugie, or Megumi. It seems like the 5th floor version was clean, so their partner must have  survived, in which case, was there another participant we're not aware of?
Actually, could it have been Hinako’s? It’s unclear why she wouldn’t say anything if this were the case, but her video showed her being lifted up with her feet dangling, and the blood stains might have been from Ranger beating her to death. If this is true, her partner would probably have had to be one of the survivors (Reko, Alice, Gin, or Kai) whose first trials we don’t already know about. Since first trials seem to tend to pair people up who have prior connections, does this mean Hinako has a connection to any of these people? If so, wouldn’t it likely be Kai, who is the only one who never makes it to 3-1?
Ranmaru said there's a human from Asunaro among them. Keiji, Q-taro, Gin, and Sara are the only survivors from both rounds. It can't be the dummies, but can it be Midori?
He also doesn't specify that there's just one
Why does everyone recognize the consent form but Sara? What were they consenting to? It sounds like some of them were from a long time ago, from Shin's response. Why does Midori want Sara to sign it?
The 4th and 5th floor rooms seem to have connections to the participants:
Boxing ring: Kurumada
Office: Hayasaka
Police box: Keiji
School: Sara, Joe
Art Gallery: ?
Gate: ?
Library: ?
What's the purpose of Asunaro researching how to reproduce humans? This is clearly related to both the dolls/AIs and the death game, but how exactly?
Is the point of the game to prove whether positive or negative emotions make someone human? Gashu vs. Safalin might point to this, as well as Gashu attempting to sabotage the game to "prove" something
Deleted scenes imply the goal of the Asunaro research is to create the perfect AI with emotions, but still...For what purpose.....

heya! can i request a kin matchup from mod hinako if its okay? any source is fine! i can be self centred but i love helping others! im intelligent but dont put much effort into school. im easily frustrated and enjoy reading and drawing! i doubt my abilities a lot. i try to be upbeat and peppy even if thats not how im feeling. i like things going my way and get mad when they dont. thank you!
hi-hi anon! i’m so happy you requested my help in particular, and i hope this is accurate.
since you didn’t give any specific sources, i had more freedom in characters, but you may not know some of them... so i apologize if they’re unfamiliar.
i assign you:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
nao egokoro, bobo, and filius.
nao egokoro from your turn to die:
i chose nao because she also holds a similar ideal of helping other people to you, and is very oriented around her friends. she’s also a very emotional person, getting riled up easily. she’s also very intelligent but focuses on things she likes instead, and doesn’t do well in most aspects in school that aren’t art. she seems to think less of herself than she does others. she also holds an aloof facade that can be compared to your peppiness! and, of course, she also likes drawing and artistic pursuits.
bobo from love nikki dress up queen:
i chose bobo because, while she is somewhat self-centered, she does care a lot about her friends! she also doesn’t put much effort into things she doesn’t like. she isn’t conventionally intelligent, but she’s clever in analyzing and figuring out different things! she also gets easily frustrated and doesn’t like it when things don’t go her way. she definitely uses a peppy, upbeat attitude to hide how she’s actually feeling.
filius from unison league:
i chose filius, or rather, filo (her nickname), because she definitely is self-centered in a way, but she does a lot to help others, with her profession involving her risking her life to save people. filo is definitely intelligent and has mastered a lot of difficult techniques. filo is definitely frustrated and angry often, but she has an upbeat attitude that boosts the morale of her teammates.
thank you very much for requesting, anon, i hope I was helpful!

Fate Swap: Team Tokyo
Daichi Shijima taking the role of Hibiki Kuze
Our boy Daichi has become the Protagonist of this story. Good for him! Daichi is one of the characters who doesn’t change much in terms of backstory. He is still a third year student from Tokyo who gets involved in the crisis on his way home from entrance exams, where he meets his first two companions. He really hates fighting and wants nothing to do with demons or JP’s but when the extent of the crisis becomes clear to him, his loyalty to his new companions and his desire to help others force his hand. Daichi doesn’t catch the attention of JP’s by being a super impressive demon tamer (though he’s by no means a bad one), instead much like vanilla Hibiki, Daichi is surprisingly good at drawing people into his orbit. Daichi’s earnestness and loyalty make people very loyal to him in return, even if he still gets ribbed on even as the protagonist. He’s a bit lonelier in this incarnation as he doesn’t have a best friend Hibiki, so he’s even more eager to please. Daichi still thinks it stupid when everyone starts fighting, but instead of starting his own faction, he’s just very insistent on recruiting people to whatever route he takes.
Dr. Otome Yanagiya taking the role of Daichi Shijima
The good doctor’s backstory has not changed to much either, with one notable exception. In this Fate Swap, Otome does not work for JP’s, instead she works at a Tokyo hospital. She has custody of Koharu, and there is some tension because she is working very long hours, so she isn’t home too often.  She was on her way home from a shift at the hospital when the crisis began. Her two new companions offered to get her back to her apartment where Koharu was. Despite their best efforts, they got dragged into the events of Day 1 and Otome began to grasp how bad the situation had become. She agrees to assist JP’s as long as they provide refuge for Koharu. Otome teases her companions, but she cares for them quite a bit and is often a voice of reason in the group. She helps Daichi gain his confidence and comes to care for him as something of a little brother. She is kidnapped much like vanilla Daichi helping out in Nagoya and is quite shook up after the experience, which makes her even more protective of her friends, particularly the ones younger than her. When the in-fighting reaches a fever pitch, Otome puts her foot down and forms her own faction, insisting that humanity is at its best when they reach out and understand each other, even people they maybe don’t agree with. She is the leader of the Neutrality faction.
Keita Wakui takes the place of Io Nitta
Keita is a second year from Daichi’s high school, and the ace of the Boxing club. Keita remains very stand offish and aggressive, preferring to solve his problems with violence, which puts him at odds with Daichi and Otome. He is first introduce aggressively asking Daichi for directions, which quickly spirals when Daichi recognizes him as the “reformed” delinquent from his middle school days, and Keita starts threatening him, at which point Otome attempts to step in, and the crisis starts. While initially reluctant to stick with the two, he agrees to escort Otome back to her apartment, figuring if nothing else, walking around might let him scope the situation. After the events of day one he admits he feels like he “owes Daichi one”, and that he’s going to stick around since Daichi do-gooder nature makes him a trouble magnet, which means more fights. Much like vanilla Io, Keita’s parents both die as the crisis continues, causing him briefly double down on his aggressive and strength obsessed tendencies. Daichi and the others manage to reign him in for the most part, but it’s clear that his grief is taking a huge toll on him. Keita is chosen as the vessel for Lugh, and runs off. When Daichi catches up to him, Keita’s emotions boil over and he rages that he wants to beat Mizar with his own strength or it won’t matter. Daichi can convince Keita that they need his help, that it is his strength that is helping them as he’s the only one capable of hosting Lugh, and that even regardless of that, relying on others isn’t a weakness. Keita will go through with the ritual, (and survive), but will become more reserved for the following several scenes. At the route split Keita will surprise everyone by siding with Otome. If fought he will use the full power of Lugh, yelling that he intends to use all his strength in pursuit of his ideals. If sided with, Keita will admit that when Lugh was possessing him finally had all the strength and power he sought at his finger tips…and nothing was better. He still couldn’t bring back his parents, he couldn’t beat Mizar, or heal the black scar. Power was only worthwhile if there was purpose in it. Keita decided to side with Otome because he believed hers was the best option, a world that didn’t rewrite peoples values, or value just the individual or the collective. He still was seeking strength but he realized to become strong you first had to allow people to be weak, and even selfish.
Jungo Torii replaces Yuzuru “Joe” Akie
Fate Swapped Jungo is much the same as vanilla Jungo in terms of personality and even much of his backstory. Jungo remains a kind if absent minded chef’s apprentice in Tokyo. He is protective of his friends, and can be quite scary if something threatens them or innocent people/animals. Jungo is introduced running up to Otome, Daichi, and Keita, and unlike vanilla Joe, Jungo is strong enough to carry all three at once, dragging them over to the amphitheater before Keita manages to break his hold. After they defeat the demons tailing Jungo (who helps them fight, unlike Joe), Jungo joins their team, insisting they’re friends now. Jungo has no particular qualms about going to Nagoya, though he notes he lived there briefly as an orphan after his parents died. He said the orphanage was under funded, so they often didn’t have a lot to eat. He wasn’t there long before he was adopted by a couple, who then moved the family to Tokyo. He isn’t particularly fond of the city, but its there he meets his cat, Jungo, so he grows to like it more. Jungo chooses to side with the Equality faction, insisting even though he doesn’t want to fight his friends, a world where no one would suffer, where people would never have to be hungry, was worth fighting for.
Hinako Kujo replaces Makoto Sako
Hinako is the daughter of head of the Kujo family in Osaka. She was raised to inherit the family and the Kujo style of dance, and was believed to be a true prodigy. She rebelled quite a bit against this, first not wanting to be a dancer at all, and later wanting to learn other styles causing friction within the family. She was on her way to a non-traditional dance lesson when she got hit by a car. The injury was not life threatening, and with sufficient physical therapy she was able to regain much of her grace and capabilities. Unfortunately, the accident and her dance lesson caused an apocalyptic argument with her family, and was a constant source of discord. The day she turned 18, Hinako moved out of her family’s home completely cutting ties with them. She happened to be scouted by JP’s in Tokyo as she threw herself (quite aggressively) in to various martial arts, searching for a physical activity to replace dancing with. She was offered a job with JP’s and she jumped at the opportunity, quickly becoming one of their best hand to hand combatants and catching the eye of the current leader. Hinako is still very cheerful, quick to tease or even flirt with her companions. In particular she is close with the branches lead scientist, and one of their best doctors, who are also both quite young. Hinako is the first member of JP’s Daichi and the others encounter, and she is the one who eventually convinces them to help out. In the route split Hinako choses to side with the meritocracy faction. Here it is reveal that Hinako is still incredibly bitter about what happened with her family, noting that people less talented than her had dictated her whole life before she joined JP’s. That she had bent and stretched, and made compromise after compromise, had tried to make her family happy but it was never enough for them. So she rejects the idea that to live is to serve others, which is how she initially perceives the equality faction. Despite this bitterness, she is still someone who ultimately believes in the good in people, leaving her conflicted over the course of the game and even when fought against.

Hal’s Winter 2018 final ranking
Yuru Camp - Starting out as a fairly generic SoL, this ended up a high flying healing SoL with fantastic characters and enjoyable circumstances. Here’s to a potential season 2. 9/10
Sora yori mo Tooi Basho - What a series this turned out to be. Picking it up on a whim, I would have never expected this to end up a contender for AOTS. If you are looking for a good anime about realistic expectations about friendships, along with some decent SoL drama goodness, along with that added sense of adventure, this is about as good as it gets. Even recommended for those that don’t usually watch SoLs. 9/10
3 Gatsu no Lion 2 - The series kinda lost steam after the amazing Hina bullying arc (and 3 week hiatus), but it maintains its status as a top draw watch this season. Unfortunately, I find myself looking forward to the Kawamoto sisters appearing than most of the other side characters (I also haven’t seen his stepsister appear in a long while). That said, there isn’t a single bad character in the series, and even the most minor of characters have some level of development (sometimes even a little too much development for one off characters). 8/10
Karakai Jouzu no Takagi san - Takahashi Rie’s amazing work as Takagi singlehandedly makes this better than average. Otherwise, it’s just a fairly decently cute series in which a girl teases a guy she likes. Not spectacular, but solid enough. 7/10
Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card hen - Addressing the elephant in the room, I’m a massive fan of the original CCS. I loved the characters, the plot, the twists and all the cards. Now, news of the reboot made me happier than I had ever known. Problem is, it is a literal reboot. While the characters are still great, and the old VAs reprised their roles, the plot is a literal rehash of the original series. There’s a scene in the aquarium when Sakura/Kero/Tomoyo themselves mentioned that it was exactly like it was in the original Watery card capture, and that was exactly what it was. The week after, they had an alternate retelling of the Sleep/Maze cards with the Snooze/Labyrinth cards. Considering how the original series was good for its innovation, this reboot kinda tramples over those feelings of them. Oh well, at least the characters are still great. 7/10
Violet Evergarden - If ever there was such thing as an anime that had the worst possible first few episodes, before rising from the ashes, this would be it. It had an awful start, with some incredibly meh 4-5 episodes, with the watcher having no real connection with any of the recurring characters. In fact, the instance in which it got better was when they started having episodic events that got Violet more involved in the world and had interesting character development. It’s not the masterpiece it hopes to be, but it’s much better than it’s initial few episodes portray it as. Plus, the art is some of the most fantastic in an episodic series I have ever seen. Overall, a decent watch that killed itself over its own self-set overly ambitious bar. 6.5/10
Slow Start - It started out as a fairly typical moeblob SoL, only for the fan servicey yuri to slowly take over the series. Not that it’s bad, mind you, just a little forced at times. It’s better than recent season smiliar styled SoLs like Hinako Note, Anne Happy and perhaps on par with Stella no Mahou, but was never going to be memorable. 6.5/10
Ramen Daisuki Koizumi san - Pretty much Dagashi Kashi with ramen, it’s actually a decently interesting watch, if one is interested in ramen. It does help that Koizumi is a pretty cute deadpan character. Yea, the lead is an annoying stalker, but the rest of the characters (and the ramen) help save the series. 6/10
Hugtto Precure - Reverting back to its roots, the starting has been pretty decent, reminding me of Suite and Yes Precure 5. Let’s hope it keeps going and bringing the precure series back to the good ol’ days. 6/10
Aikatsu Stars - I love the characters, I really do. Not as much as I do the Starlight Gakuen team (hence my handle name), but the likes of Mahiru, Ako and Kirara are easily among my top 10 Aikatsu characters. That said, the plot of the entire series has been all over the place. They tried to add romance and drama to season 1, with it disappearing in it entirety by season 2. Then, they gave Yume an easy end season 1 ticket to the top, thereby removing any possible further development in season 2. Speaking of season 2, the Venus Ark arc started out as an improvement from DreAca in the original, but screwed itself badly with its nonsensical plot. Even the characters have been on autopilot, with next to no development, even by the final few episodes. I hope Aikatsu Friends saves the series, and brings it back to its glory days. 6/10
Takunomi - Dagashi Kashi with... alcohol? It’s a weird combo, considering it’s hardly an anime targeted at adults, but here we are. Decent, but hardly memorable. 6/10
Dagashi Kashi 2 - Kinda strange that the actual Dagashi Kashi is ranked lower than all its counterparts this season. Honestly, the series kinda stopped being as interesting after Hotaru took a back seat mid season. Yet another series that is so reliant on how good a VA is, Taketatsu Ayana’s work just brought so much life to the series as a whole, her disappearance kinda brought it down to mediocrity. Hajime just wasn’t an interesting character at all, and a poor replacement. 6/10
Mitsuboshi Colors - The SoL that tries too hard to be funny, with characters that are less than endearing, which is a key aspect for such a SoL. The Colors crew end up just being a group of annoying brats that you just avoid so you don’t end up as a pissy adult. Ultimately, it has it’s moments, but too many just focus on kids being a pain. 6/10
Emiya san Chi no Kyou no Gohan - Cute FSN timeline SoL. A pure fan service series to make hardcore fans happy. Others, like me, just watch t for the cute girls. 6/10
Mahoutsukai no Yome - In what is the biggest’s disappointment in forever, it does not fulfill its early promise, with it trying too hard to fall into multiple genres, including fantasy, romance, slice of life, seinen, drama, action etc, but essentially being a master of none, causing it to be the most boring watch of the past 2 seasons. In the end, Chise never really developed into the badass female protag that she was supposed to be, and the plot never resolves itself. 5/10
Fate/Extra Last Encore - Was there anything that could have been more boring and all over the place than Apocrypha in the Nasuverse? Well, there’s this abomination. Other than a obvious cash cow trying to milk UMU Saber (cow and milk were not referring to her boobs ether), this is the worst Fate/Anything that anime has to offer. Skip it, you’ll thank me for this. Let’s hope Shaft sticks to a series a season next time. 3.5/10
Girls of the season:
Shima Rin (Yuru Camp)
Miyake Hinata (Sora yori mo Tooi Basho)
Daidoji Tomoyo (CCS)
Takagi-san (Karakai Jouzu no Takagi san)
Tokura Eiko (Slow Start)

i feel sooo bad that i haven’t been answering asks on my askblog but it’s because i’m trying a new art style specifically for the fantasy au 😭🙏 i might save that one for later bc i’m rly excited to try it out. i think my worry is that it seems neglected or inactive bc i’m not posting often but it’s because i’m juggling school at the same time and sometimes drawings will take me several sittings depending on how complex it is 😓
it seriously brightens my day when i get inbox messages on that account because it gives me more excuses to draw hinako 👏👏👏 i’ll catch up eventually i promise!!! 🫡

Spring 2017 Anime First Impressions
This season doesn’t really seem to have a posterchild show like last season, which had both a new KyoAni work and Konosuba’s follow-up. However, there’s some good slice-of-life and top-tier fanservice, so as usual there will be ups and downs, weighted towards the latter of course. (This paragraph is short because I had a huge rant here about Anime Strike and its effect on consumers/businesses, but I’m pretty sure no-one who follows me gives a shit about actual discussion of the industry, so I’ll spare you.)
With MAL links, and original shows marked:
Alice to Zouroku (MAL) Starting off we have a hefty 40-minute episode, which follows Sana, a girl with supernatural powers, escaping from a reserach lab. She is chased by the organization's other power-users, and snares the other main character, Kashimura, in a bad-CG-filled car chase. I like Kashimura as that sort of grizzled old man type moreso than a generic teenage protag in this sense. His no-nonsense attitude contrasts well with the haughty-yet-childish one of Sana. In addition, I like the subtle humor near the end of the episode that contrasts what you think Kashimura's line of work is with what it actually is. The animation looks somewhat plain, and the CG is honestly just bad. The entire sequence could have used hand-drawn, but for a solid 2-3 minutes it was hard to look at. Other than that there isn't anything especially new here - reality-warping powers, dangerous medical research - we've seen it before. I don't really think this needed a 40-minute episode, but we'll see where it goes.
Rokudenashi Majutsu Koushi to Akashic Records (MAL) Any show with a school uniform that highlights midriffs gets points in my book. Starting off, we have the eccentric (in this case lazy) teacher, Glenn, starting at a magic school. There's the haughty noble girl, Sistine, oft-embarrased by the teacher's antics, and her quieter sister Rumia. While setting itself up as a comedy in episode 1, episode 2 has everything from a shouting match culminating in a slap to military thugs sexually assaulting Sistine - so I'm honestly not sure which way this is going. The boastful-but-easily-embarrased Sistine contrasts well with the smooth-with-nothing-to-back-it-up Glenn. We have the brewings of a wider plot, with why Glenn was assigned to the school if he's a bum and Sistine having a goal of discovering secrets of a floating island. The animation overall is still quite good, which helps in a magic-casting show. Helps the fanservice out too. I don't have high expectations for this show, but the lower the bar the easier this show will impress.  I just hope it focuses on a single direction in the plot instead of trying to have comedic episodes and dark episodes.
[Original] Sakura Quest (MAL) Starting with a bubbly OP (and ending with a similarly fantastic ED), we have the first slice-of-lie this season. I love the genre, I love the country locale, I love the art, and I loved Shirobako. I have high hopes. Our main girl Koharu wants to get out of the country and get a job in Tokyo, but the job she gets (by mistake, even) is back in the country at a tourism board. Sakura Quest puts an interesting spin on the country locale, setting Manoyama up as both tranquil yet struggling - and I like it. It brings a sense of realism to an oft-idealized setting. The language of taxes, grants, and the real strategy of creating "mini independent states" to boost local tourism echoes Shirobako in its depiction of life, and that's good. Koharu is plucky, insistent, and overall just a joy to watch. I'm refreshed any time a show does something about not high-school students or teenagers in general. Focusing the story on adults that have established lives (or even better, that are trying to establish their lives) gives the slice of life genre, well, new life. Showing the smooth transition between the comedic and the sentimental, with background music to match, the tonal shifts are nothing abrupt, a the first episode flowed well. P.A. Works certainly has a hit-or-miss record with original shows, and Sakura Quest thus far is more Shirobako and less Glasslip. I'm looking at an AOTS contender already.
Clockwork Planet (MAL) Starting off with an impressively boring action sequence, we have our heroes led by a (I'm sure incredibly powerful) kid defeat a bunch of automatons. A world created entirely of clocks, and a main character (Naoto) obsessed with tinkering with them. My primary conception from the summary was more apocalyptic, with the main character being a wandering junker who finds an automaton (Imagining the world looking sort of like Gargantia, with less water). Maybe I'm just standoffish because instead we got a high school kid with an annoying voice that finds a girl who proceeds to call him "Master." This is of course after the fact that despite Naoto being unable to fix a single clock, he easily opens and fixes the girl, one of the most top-of-the-line automatons created. Naturally. As far as the "clockwork" aesthetic goes, instead of a rusty, machinic society the world looks exactly like any other city, except with random gears everywhere. At one point it shows a character driving an otherwise normal car, but in the door of the car there are gears that look like they aren't connected to anything, just there to remind you of the title. Regarding the animations, they're not great, echoing the facial style of something like Baka to Test or Kore wa Zombie Desu Ka? - only this show is airing in 2017. Also, a shot shows a bunch of gears falling from a guy's hand feels the need be CG. Ugh. Shoved-in fanservice on top of all of this makes this a show I already regret starting. Avoid.
Eromanga-Sensei (MAL) Next up, we have the second original series from the famed creator of "It's Okay to Fuck Your Sister if She Likes Porn," This one uniquely titled "It's Okay to Fuck Your Sister if She Draws Porn." Sibling bonding over erotic fiction/art. Wew. Nothing else to expect from OreImo's creator, but similar themes do not a similar plot make. I hope. The first episode is the reunion, where Masamune finds his shut-in sister Sagiri is Eromanga-sensei, his LN ero-artist. I'll give it this - Sagiri is leagues cuter than Kirino. Man, fuck Kirino. Naturally the art is similar to OreImo, especially Masamune, only I think his hair's a bit greener. Other than that, though, the animation is smooth. Eromanga-Sensei starts off on a much more sentimental note, with discussions of dreams, mourning parents, etc. Other than one main fanservice-y scene and the fact that they connect over erotic art, the sentimental is certainly preferable. ClariS return for the ED of ep1, and it's fantastic as ever. I mean, seriously, Nexus as the OP for OreImo was the best part of the show. Judging from the key art this may well become a harem, but we'll see. So far it beats OreImo, but that's a low bar.
Sakurada/Sagrada Reset (MAL) I don't know why the changed the romanization to "Sagrada," but then again I don't know Japanese in the first place. Sakurada Reset follows Kei and Haruki, with the powers of recalling the past perfectly and being able to reset time, respectively. The town of Sakurada gives people the powers for basically no reason, but on the other hand that's not really the point - the assumption is that this is normal. Set up to be friends by Soma, the enigmatic class rep, Kei aims to get Haruki to help him help people, using their powers. Haruki is adamantly opposed, for fear Kei could exploit her, as she herself doesn't remember anything after resetting. Sakurada Reset certainly doesn't set itself up as a comedy, but rather a series of sobering investigations undertaken by Kei and Haruki. There's a lot of pseudo-philosophical bullshit off the bat ("You're unable to believe your own righteousness, yet you continue to be righteous."), and yet the show isn't interesting enough for me to look any deeper. Add to that a surprisingly dark first investigation topic, and I'm already kind of tired of this. If you like HaruChika (which I didn't) with darker themes, then give this a watch. Otherwise, I'd avoid.
Hinako Note (MAL) Back on the slice of life train, Hinako Note follows, well, Hinako, a girl who sucks at speaking, moving to Tokyo to go to high school and get better via the theater club. She moves into a bookstore-cafe combo, living with Kuu, who likes books so much she eats them, and Mayu, the short girl who dresses like a maid. Also introduced is Aki, the quiet landlady and a theater troupe leader on the side. The only conflict is that the theater club is shut down, and so Aki suggests Hinako simply form a troupe with the rest of the girls. The OP/ED show we'll meet a fifth girl, so I expect that soon. Speaking of the OP/ED, they're both incredibly fast paced, sung by the cast, and remind me of Teekyuu's OP style, if you like that. The animation is pretty good, though the show really likes going into chibi-style a lot. Probably more a style choice than budgetary problem, and I don't mind it. Overall, it seems like the theater setup could produce a wealth of interesting scenarios, and the girls are cute. Not much else I need.
[Original] Tsuki ga Kirei (MAL) Last on the slice-of-life roster, we have an self-described slow paced school story, and an original from feel. studios to boot. I'm excited. Starting in the third-year of middle school is interesting, because that means all the relationship-forming is already done. (To be done away with when they get to high-school though, I'm sure). Akane is a sincere, shy girl on the track team, while Kotarou is a similarly shy novice writer and spends club time as the school's librarian. They share off glances at each other, leading to a nervous, stammering meeting at a family restaurant where not much else happens. "Slow-paced," to be sure. The animation matches the shows sort of muted tone, with no massive eyes (or tits), no multicolored hair, etc. It's clear Tsuki ga Kirei aims to tell a more-or-less realistic love story. One thing I did notice, mostly in the beginning of the episode, was the crowd shots combined with CG. Honestly, just do closer shots so you can avoid CG-ing people. It never looks good. The first episode sort of confirmed my feeling that this show will be a nice way to decompress each week, as we watch Akane and Kotarou grow slowly closer. If the title's any indication, their relationship will have its awkward moments, but there's nothing more essentially youth than that, right? Unlike many original works, this show doesn't look like it will go in any strange direction, and that consistency is relaxing. Give this a watch.
Zero kara Hajimeru Mahou no Sho (MAL) Furry Berserk, I guess? ZeroSho follows the unnamed beastman "Mercenary" and Zero, a mage, as they search for Zero's Grimoire, the basis of all magic. The show follows a typical fantasy setting, with mages at war with a ruling empire, and beastmen subjugated by everyone. Interestingly, "sorcery" differs from "magic" - the former requires a summoning circle, long casts, etc., while the latter is quick and far more deadly. More interesting is the fact that Zero wrote the book on magic. I normally enjoy overpowered characters, and in this case that power is packed into a cute, ahoge-sporting mage loli. Definitely a plus. Something else the struck me as unique was the comedic moments throughout the episode. Thus far Mercenary and Zero play off each other quite well, and I'm interested to see where it goes. There's the standard background of discrimination against beastmen/witches and Mercenary's war-torn past, but at least if it's been signposted now it won't be jarring later. This show surprised and impressed, and I'm interested to see how it goes. And man, Zero's cute.
Anonymous Noise (MAL) For whatever reason, I've been waiting for this to come out for a while. I'm not sure why, but when there were any cast announcements or key visuals, etc. I always recognized the name. Anyway, Anonymous Noise sees Nino Arisugawa - "Alice," a loner singer starting high school reunite with her childhood singing friend Kanade Yuzuriha - "Yuzu." Right from the start, this show is very, very shoujo. The eyes, the immediate drama, everything is very shoujo. Not necessarily a problem, but be aware that's what this is. Amazing how a dramatic reunion could immediately turn to "Never talk to me again," but that's the genre I guess. Regarding the music, as this is a musical show, there was one main performance, and if I'm honest I thought Alice's voice was quite rough. The music per se isn't a problem - the sound echoes Scandal or Stereopony, bands that do some harder rock that I both love. The vocals, at least in the song they played, weren't to my liking. I was unaware of just how shoujo this show is, and I hope it doesn't become any more overbearing than it already has. I have low expectations on that front. From the insert song and the ED, I know I like the sound, so if the vocals keep up and the shoujo stays down, this won’t be bad. On the other hand, I can't say I expect both of those things to happen.
Sin Nanatsu no Taizai (MAL) Best for last, amirite? Aka “Seven Mortal Sins,” SinNNT is unabashed, unapologetic fanservice. As a quick note, make sure to skip the HorribleSubs release on this one, only because their release is censored. Censored like Shinmai Maou no Testament censored (and that's bad). Anyway, the story involves Lucifer falling first to Earth and then to Hell, where after a short sexual assault by Leviathan (Envy) she proceeds to challenge the other sins for control. Back on Earth, the nun Lucifer passed as she fell to hell (as well as giving her some blood) is having her own daily life. (Don't worry, there's still groping between her and her friend). There's over-the-top transformation sequences, grandiose music, and plenty of inane sexual situations. I honestly have no idea where this show is going - whether it's going to be in Hell, on Earth - but let's be real, no-one really cares. The animation budget is actually pretty great for this show, and that means the fanservice is top tier. As if I need to write anything about this show - it's distilled fanservice. Watch it, or don't.
