somewhere in my mind palace there is a stunning DC cinematic universe from the 80s-90s with a star-studded cast

You can usually tell a lot about a person by the type of music they listen to! Put your favourite playlist on shuffle and list the first 10 songs, then tag 10 people! No skipping!!
I was tagged by @mylifeiskara, thank you! 💖
This from my 'chill' playlist which is more of 'random genre thrown together in a mess' than an actually thought-out selection 😁
(I've put links to the songs in Spotify if you want yo give them a listen)
1. River by Leon Brigdes
2. Drew Barrymore by SZA
3. LEON's Lullaby by LEON

hieeee! we just uploaded episode sixteen of our podcast (soundcloud) (itunes), but are you wondering where you can find more about what we talked about? look no further: below is our ep 16 reading list with links to everything you might need- HAPPY READING Y’ALL.
we kicked off the pod with a (dated) reference to my super sweet sixteen, that MTV show we all know and love. do you remember the rihanna episode? and the one with emo bands of our youth? we do.
we did some belated academy awards chat: james ivory wore a shirt with timothee painted on the front, jordan peele won best original screenplay AND had the most shared tweet of the night, frances mcdormand drew attention to inclusion riders, emma stone put a dampener on the best director nominees achievements, and- most importantly- armie and timmy looked great together.
ben affleck’s ugly back tattoo got some unwanted attention which we revelled in; he’d previously claimed it was fake back in 2016, though his former wife jennifer garner had a lot to say about it at the time which suggested otherwise. even professional artists threw their opinions into the hat. in conclusion: rich people sure love bad tattoos (except daniel day lewis, it seems)
chris evans confirmed in a new york times profile that he’s leaving the MCU and that his relationship with jenny slate was no more. THE INTERNET (AND US) CRIES.
drew barrymore kind of lost the plot and claimed jake gyllenhaal wasn’t the best actor she’s ever worked with. ARE YOU OKAY DREW?!!!?!!!
we discussed lynne ramsay’s you were never really here; this is a great interview with the director and here’s jonny greenwood’s incredible score.
we also talked about alex garland’s sci-fi rollercoaster annihilation. we loved it, and spent a lot of time reading into the movie and what its message might be. some pieces we liked: this, from vulture on the film’s allusions to depression, this from bright wall dark room on how it depicts of self destruction and this from new republic on how it merges body horror with...virginia woolf?!
we liked netflix’s everything sucks, especially the soundtrack. listen here.
steph also mainlined all of lars von trier’s the kingdom which she described as being twin peaks, but even weirder. see for yourself.
music: as well as jonny greenwood’s score, we also mentioned the new ones from hot snakes & lucy dacus, plus julien baker.
and our main topic was of course: MAGIC MIKE, and its follow-up, XXL. it’s hard to not link to every scene possible but a few favourites: matthew mcconaughey, richie’s backstreet boys number, the continued use of ‘pony’, the walk-off at a drag show, donald glover, a gratuitous use of ‘candy shop’ aaaaaaaand steph’s personal weakness: richie’s nine inch nails performance.
our obsessions of the week: regular offender, timothee chalamet and curveball, andy samberg. apryl spent a lot of time watching his old SNL sketches and you should too!
