I think there's a lot to say about the different perspective of Ai Coleman and Kaiman in their view of Hole and themselves (Ai on himself and Kaiman on Ai)
Ai was saw himself as a complex puzzle, someone waiting for the moment where his life truly can start, to be reborn and fly far away from hell to a magic land. He was merely an egg waiting to get out breaking the shell of his old self
Kaiman on the other hand could see Ai as it really was. A depressed kid on a shitty place who could just dream of a better life.
All the times we are shown Ai's pov it's always like a legend, something mysterious and oniric. Even from other's people pov like Kasukabe or Risu
The only time this changes is on the fee last chapters when Kaiman finally refers to Ai as himself, and it's never done on the eerie narration that's been done the whole story, it's always recalling a memory "when I was a kid in hole". For him Ai isn't a legend or a mythical creature, it's simply the kid he was when he dreamed of becoming a man.

character opinion on ebisu dorohedoro !!!
Tumblr media
drhdr spoils past this+kind of long i microdosed on analysis
WHERE DO I MFING BEGIN first she got done soooo dirty and i hate how she was written and characterized sooooooo bad it drives me up the wall. firstly that is a 13 year old it is very awkward that all the booby humor was a big part of her and her mental illness/disability could have been taken more seriously like [shaking q hayashida] hey quit that. + i dont keep up in fandom opinions or anything but anyone who ships her with fujita needs to die in volcano fire its so weird
About story part: shes so real and i adore her soo much+everything about her grim reaper/skeleton/death motifs its soooo something to me. her story part where she remembers is so fascinating but it got cut way too short and i think theres so much possible character implication there about her. like i really wonder what she was up to prior to chap1 when she was big in the black market selling her smoke + her past family life and the whole doll twin of herself + implication that she REMEMBERS STILL after the laughing hairclip became part of her brain like Good Fucking God she cant do anything about that. good god she faced the horrors with fujita alone
also. her massive key part of the story with her smoke and being the unlikely contrast and cause of kaimans existence like insane to think the times she was close to death+when she died that one time was so intrinsic to aikawas awakening. like idk something with her grim reaper motifs tying into when kai was killed. much 2 think about
overall she is also so fun as a goofy little guy and i love to see her on little scooter with kikurage + her friendships with fujita and noi are so sweet they are literally family in this wretched world. ilove when she wears skull mask she is me sometimes and shes like sploingy ploopy doopy. thank you

instead of doing my job i am thinking once again about dorohedoro... specifically that i think it would have been interesting if fujita had left en’s group & banded together w/ the cross-eyes. as tetsujou points out, fujita is a “weak” (undervalued) magic user who basically schemed his way into en’s inner (or slightly outer lol) circle. he arguably has more in common with the cross-eyes than with any of the sorcerers who are closest to en, and he also is part of the reason that tetsujou & dokuga are alive at the end of the series (+ sho deciding not to like, let them die, but...fujita was the sorcerer advocating for them to live). like ebisu also has a role to play in that, but fujita is literally like “can you save them too”... hello? idk. i posted about this already before but i think that the ending really fell flat regarding a lot of character resolutions. like, if fujita developed some analysis about how sorcerer society is in fact super fucked up & clinging to powerful people wont actually benefit him, that could have been interesting. especially considering how callous sorcerer society was abt his dead partner -- like, yeah, drhdr is a pretty rough and brutal world, but idk, he would make a good character to break from being A Sorcerer... anyway these are just undeveloped thoughts

4 the three characters meme: tim magnusarchives, polnareff jjba, kaiman drhdr
OH MAN... this is a hard one... every single one of these characters are on differing ends of the “chaotic bastard” spectrum (well. less so tim but).  ANYHOW. i’m gonna have to chose caiman for my lab partner because he’s a full blown surgeon!!! he did a dissection on his own severed head and has repeatedly shown prowess with suturing and anatomical analysis. an excellent lab partner for sure. For being trapped in an elevator for 10 hours i chose tim. he’s the most normal and actually funny of the two and i feel like he would be the most amiable company for that duration of time. he is also the least likely to stab me. And FINALLY we got polnareff for being my mcdonalds employee trainer. he is the last option. he would probably be terrible at it but he would be an equally terrible lab partner and someone to be trapped in an elevator with. at least i could try and train myself working at mcdonalds.

when i finished reading drhdr earlier this year i was like, well, that was a ride. but i prob wont reread it. however i am rereading it right now lmao... i wholly underestimated the impact it would have on me creatively tbh!!!!!!! don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of things i don’t really like about it (have discussed before, but mainly ebisu, dropped class analysis plotline(s), the way it ends) but like, there are a lot of things it does really well and im like, holy fuck, i am still thinking about it and think about it often!!!!
