I posted a note saying how bad I feel for Esteban but how glad I am he's leaving Alpine (meaning to say that I hope he goes to a good team) and a good friend of mine replied with "yeah I don't like him, bad driver, agreed" and I have no idea how to respond to that... I'm a new F1 fan so no stats ready but I DO know he's not a bad driver but all I can talk about is his background growing up but IDK I need help responding pls?

hi!! same sentiment here, hope he has a contract but glad he left that toxic team.

he's not a bad driver, despite what people say. if u check his stats in feeder series like f3 n gp3 he was a consistent driver that was usually in the podium. if you check his early f1 stats, he had good first full year in force india (points in every race except a retirement and a p12) and was usually close to checo in the standings (if he wasn't being disqualified or had retirements) or his other teammates (last year with 6 retirements vs gasly's 2 and like a 4? 6? point difference)

the year with the biggest position difference is 2020, covid year, in which esteban had not raced in an f1 car for a year against dric who had already a year on the team.

most people think he's a bad driver because of the collisions he has been in, specially with his teammates, but only two of them have been fully his fault (a collision with perez and now in monaco with gasly). the problem is the people he gets in collisions with, and the reason why most people are quick to blame him. drivers that, as usual, blame the other before checking the on-board after the race (which is normal behaviour btw and totally expected, it's weirder if a driver doesn't defend themselves) but ocon never really defends himself, and his biggest/most memorable crashes are with drivers like checo, alonso and verstappen that have big diehard fanbases.

it's true that his style is agressive, but he has also proven he is a team player when needed (defended gasly in australia 2023 after the crash, does follow team orders on the radio, not to mention that he has never talked badly about any team nor teammate he has had and is always cheering the team up on the radio [radio this year after alpine sucked, he was the first to open the radio and cheer the team up, while gasly said the car sucked (true)]). people forget that your teammate is your first rival, but ocon doesn't and unless he is told otherwise, he races them as if they were any other driver. and he normally is on par with his teammate, so of course there are going to be fights between them.

most of the time he does deliver with his overtakes and defense. he is good at managing tyres (record for longest stint in c3 tyres in baku, turkey 2021 where he didn't change tyres, alpine relying on him to manage tyres for all their one pit stop strategies all these years) and good at qualifying.

also, he has never been in a good car, either backmarkers (now and his first half year in f1) or midfield cars and yet he has a win, a 2nd place and a 3rd place. he is consistently in the points if the car allows it, has been praised by prost and is a good test driver and at giving feedback.

i hope the reason why he left alpine is because of the disrespect he has been put through and i really hope that he has a contract for next year. i have never seen a driver been more attacked by his own team (rossi, bruno, otmar) than ocon in the recent years.

Sean was preparing himself for his next fight against Dricus du Plessis, his first title defence. I was trying not to get involved in this whole shit show. Sean was already pissed off by the fact that Dricus said some offensive stuff about his childhood and situation with his dad, so the tension between the fighters are very high and things are getting way to much personal lately…

“Babe, are you ready to go?” I asked him as I was waiting for him to be done. “Yeah…just needed to take a good…” he flushed the toilet and i heard him washing his hands. “Sean I need to know what you just did.” I joked as he enters the room with a small smile on his face. “You don’t?” I shook my head and grabbed my purse. “No, and we need to hurry up before your to late for the next press conference.” He nods and grabs his keys. “Yeah…let’s go.”

We both arrived and he walked ahead of me as the cameras were following us as we walked into the building. “Stay close to me.” He says as he briefly looked behind him to check on me. “I will.” I followed him around the building and stayed close to him. “Welcome Sean and mrs Strickland.” We got welcomed by a small group and they guided me to a seat behind the stage. “Mrs stays here and Sean goes up and takes his seat.” A guy was explaining to the rest. “Mrs Strickland, I have a tablet for you so you can watch everything as well.” He gave me a tablet and I friendly nodded at him. “Thank you.”

Sean POV

It was time and everyone was already sitting in their seats, waiting for the questions. “Hello I’m Derek from betr media, I have a question for Sean Strickland.” The goofy looking guy from Jake Paul was standing in the crowd holding the mic. “Sure, but I hope you don’t ask the same stupid question again…” referring to the question he asks at Nate Diaz. “No sir, I learned my lesson.” I looked briefly down at my hands, getting a bit bored. “Okay my question is, what is your response towards Dricus about his statement from this morning.” I looked up at him and shrugged. “I don’t know what he said this morning.” I looked over at Dricus, he was smiling and looked over at me. “You really want to know huh.” He says, trying to get a reaction out of me. “You acting like a fool man, I’m not going to beg for you to say it.” I answered back. He laughs and looks away. “He’s a bitch that’s what I said this morning.” I shook my head and decided to stay quiet on this one.

“Hello Derek from betr media again here, I have a question for Dricus this time, what are your thoughts about the media saying stuff about you kissing your coach and neglecting your girlfriend.” ‘Great question kiddo.’ I looked over with an amusing smile on my face. “Yeah Dricus what are your thoughts about it.” I commented to him. He picks up the microphone and laughs. “Well I don’t neglect my girlfriend, she very important to me, just like my family and friends.” I laughed at his response, totally ignoring the first part of the question. “It’s okay to be gay Dricus, kissing other men but just be honest.” The crowd cheered and he turned to look at me. He smiles and grabs the microphone again.

“It’s okay to be honest about being an cheater Sean, we all see it on the social media, that your fucking someone else while your pregnant wife is at home, making sure your son isn’t following his dumb father footsteps. The media has some nerve to say things about me being neglecting my girlfriend while this guy fucks around and is probably beating his wife with his white alpha male supreme shit.” The crowed went nuts, cheering but also a lot of booing. I grabbed my microphone and pointed at him. “That’s bullshit and you know it Dricus, yes I’m fucking crazy but I never laid my hands on a woman and especially not my own wife.” My blood was boiling as he continues his story.

“Sean come on, let’s be honest, I’ve seen a few pregnant women and they don’t look like they’ve been beaten up like her. Her hands are covered in bruises and not to mention your son, who has a gun. He’s 6 years old and already stupid just like his father. Y/N if you need help just let us know, I’ll beat this motherfucker next weekend so you can run the fuck out of there.” I turned my whole body to look at him. “You used my father to hurt me, that was already fucked up but using my wife and my son into this, that’s a whole different level of being a complete dickhead, I’ll wil show you to not to fuck around with me and teach you how to be a real man.” I said, talking to him as the crowd cheered me on.

Dricus laughed and signalled his hand at me to come over to him. “Come here now and let’s see who’s a real man, you’re a weak sad little guy who cries at night because he has some nightmares about his daddy and we all know it.” I stood up and tried to throw a punch at him, he ducked away and stood up as well. He pushed me away and I slightly hit him in the face before the security guards jumped between us and holding us both back. “That’s a very low blow Dricus, to use this against me, my own son and my wife, you’re fucking dead next weekend.” I was raging, trying to get to him but they pushed us away. “You need some serious help Strickland!” He yells before he disappears from the stage.

Y/N POV

Sean was pushed away from the stage after he tried to attack Dricus. “Let’s fucking go.” He says to me as he sees me sitting on a chair. I nodded and gave the tablet back. “Thank you.” I quietly said and followed Sean back towards the car. He was angry and I didn’t want to upset him even more so I stayed quiet as he drove us back home.

He pushed the door open and went inside. Our son Sean jr flinched a little bit as the door hit the wall. “It’s okay darling.” I said as I closed the door and walked over to him. “What’s wrong with daddy?” I combed through his hair and kissed his head. “Nothing is wrong, daddy is a little bit angry.” “At me?” His voice was small and a bit sad, thinking his father is angry at him. “No, not at you.” A loud bang was heard from the garage and I flinched at the sound. “It’s okay mommy.” He wrapped his arms around me and hugged me. “I know darling.”

Sean walked back inside, his left hand was bleeding. “Sean?! What happened?!” I got up and rushed over to him. “I punched the wall.” One of his knuckles was open, his bone was visible and blood was flowing down his hand. “Oh my god.” My stomach flipped around when I saw his open wound and I turned away from it. “Baby please don’t throw up now, can’t help you when I need to treat this first.” My face was pale and I had really the urge to throw up. Normally I could take things like this but since a few weeks I have a weak stomach. “Junior!” He yelled out as I hung over, trying to not throw up. “Yes daddy.” “Help your mother.” I heard his tiny footsteps running around the kitchen. “I’ve got a bucket mommy.” He placed it down and I immediately threw up. His tiny hands rubbed my back. “It’s okay mommy.”

I was feeling bad after I threw up, Sean made me lay down in bed and he was ordering some takeout for us. “I’ve got you some pizza.” He says as he walks in, handing me some water and my pizza. “Thank you.” My voice sounded hoarse from all that vomiting and coughing. “He’s worried about you.” Sean says as he sits down on the bed, checking my temperature as I took a small bite from my pizza. “I’m okay.” He nods and kisses my head. “I know, you’re a strong woman.”

The internet was filled with Sean’s outburst, people were divided over this one. Some people said he deserved it, because he’s always criticising others. Others are saying they are on his side, encouraging him to kill Dricus next weekend. “Why are you reading those things.” Sean says as he joins me in bed. “Curious.” He shook his head and gently took away my tablet. “You need to rest, those comments won’t help you to feel better.” He lay the tablet on his nightstand and cuddled up, wrapping his arms around me. Laying his hands on my belly.

“You know he lied about those things, I fucking hate that guy.” Sean whispered against my shoulder. His hands were caressing my belly as he placed soft kisses against my shoulder. “I know, he’s just trying to get you off guard and it’s almost working…” he sighs softly. “You are the most important person in the world for me, so I will always protect you and my children.” He gently pressed down on my belly, trying to feel his other son. “You should be careful my love, we need you to protect us and you can’t do that if you’re in jail.” He snorted and kissed my neck. “I promise I won’t let that happen, you’re too fucking hot.” He pressed himself against me and I giggled softly. “You are crazy Sean.” I joked to him. “I know.” He joked back as our unborn son started to kick, making Sean very happy as he felt his kicks against his hands.
