nanami kento is the kind of man that makes people swoon without even realising it.
he's the kind of man to walk into a luxury store after work, suit jacket folded over one arm and a bouquet of flowers in the other -- his blonde hair still mostly perfect from the high-end pomade he uses. he scours the shelves, frowning to himself, while the attendants whisper and giggle amongst themselves near the tills -- an argument over who will be the one to talk to him, because he's intimidatingly pretty.
("just look at him," one whispers. "he's definitely buying something for a girlfriend."
"a wife," another disagrees. "c'mon. he's giving husband vibes."
someone hums. "but i can't see a wedding band."
"his mother, maybe?" says one other. "oh, i love when guys come in shopping for their mother."
"nobody's mother is getting a bouquet of a hundred red roses--")
eventually, one of them is volunteered as a sacrifice -- smiling and sweet as all attendants should be, she clears her throat. the others, crowded around the till, watch the exchange closely. "excuse me, sir. is there anything we could help you with today?"
her mouth is dry and her hands are clammy -- and when he fixes her with those narrow, burning eyes, her throat bobs.
"ah, yes." and his voice is deep and gravelly and drawling, and her stomach turns. she can only imagine what her coworkers are thinking -- hell, she can only imagine what she's thinking. her mind has stopped short. "my girlfriend likes this brand quite a bit. i thought i'd pick her up something..."
disappointment brews in her stomach -- and it's stupid, she knows it's stupid, because obviously a guy like that is taken. and -- she glances down at the roses -- obviously he treats her super fucking well. of course he does, because why wouldn't he? "oh, perfect! do you have anything in mind?"
"well, actually..."
he ends up buying one of the priciest gift boxes available -- fancy body care and perfume laid out in their signature boxes, decorated with ribbon and dried lavender -- no argument, no fight. he doesn't look for something cheaper, doesn't try to haggle or remove something to decrease the price. he adds, and adds, and adds -- and when she mentions a special offer at the till, a little add on for an extra 2000 yen, he accepts it readily. he inserts a black card into the card machine (of course, a black card), takes the beautifully wrapped bag, and thanks the girls for their services -- and just as he's leaving, his phone rings.
of course he answers the phone with hello, darling. of course he begins to ask his girlfriend about her day, the girls think with some amount of annoyance -- of course. maybe the curse of retail isn't entitled assholes expecting you to wait on hand and foot for them -- maybe it's the handsome men coming in to splurge on their girlfriends while you're painfully single and working for pennies.

How To Dry Rose Petals: 6 Quick And Easy Ways To Preserve Flowers
Tumblr media
Do you want to preserve your rose petals to last happily ever after? If you want the petals of a special bouquet (like the one you used at your wedding!) to last forever. All you have to do is dry its petals! It's easier than you think. Here, we will teach you how to dry rose petals in 6 different ways.
First, we'll give you some tips that apply to all methods of drying rose petals: Start with excellent quality roses . Choosing beautiful, large roses that are deliciously scented and brightly colored will give you beautiful dried petals.
Also, when you start removing them, here's the secret: Lightly grasp the petals near the base and quickly pluck them off the stem. You can also use scissors to cut the petals as close to the base as possible!
Without further ado, here are the 6 easy ways to dry rose petals.
1. Air dry the rose petals
Air drying them is a simple, effective and natural way to dry your rose petals. It will require a bit of your attention as you will regularly need to turn them over and monitor their progress, so for this method you need to plan to allow yourself some time.
1.  Place the petals on a dry sheet
Prepare the petals to be dried by spreading them evenly on a dry sheet. Leave a little space between each one to allow air to circulate to dry them.
2.  Place the petals in sunlight and where there is warm air circulation
Find a sunny, warm space to place the drying tray. Make sure it is a ventilated area, with circulating air to allow the petals to dry properly.
3.  Turn them regularly
Turn them over regularly. This will ensure that each petal dries evenly on both sides and will help the petals lie flatter.
4.  Remove dried petals
Once the petals have a dry appearance, remove them from the tray and place them in an appropriate container for storage. They are ready!
2. Dehydrate the rose petals
Using a dehydrator to dry rose petals is a great option that requires less effort and attention than air drying them, as long as you trust your dehydrator. It's a good idea to test a small amount to see what the correct time and process will be for your equipment.
1.  Arrange the petals on the dehydrator rack
Distribute the rose petals evenly on the dehydrator rack. Make sure there is a little space between each petal to prevent them from drying unevenly or sticking together.
2.  Select the low setting on your dehydrator
Place the tray in the dehydrator and set the setting as low as possible. Drying time depends on the equipment you're using, so it's important to check them regularly – it can take a few hours or a whole day.
3.  Allow the petals to dry completely
Check the petals regularly to ensure they are drying to the level you want (you don't want them to burn so check them carefully). Once they're completely dry, remove them from the machine and they're done.
3. Bake the petals in a conventional oven
The conventional oven is another great method of drying rose petals at home. With many home ovens that have multiple rack options, you will be able to place your petals on different levels to dry them. Be sure to check them carefully and spin them frequently.
1.  Arrange the petals on a baking sheet.
Distribute the petals evenly on a baking or cookie sheet. You can choose to use multiple trays to dry more rose petals.
2.  Preheat the oven to 180 degrees
Preheat the oven to more or less 180 degrees. Some ovens are more reliable than others, so be sure to monitor the rose petals and what condition they are in rather than focus more on the temperature.
3.  Heat the petals for 10 to 30 minutes.
Place the petal trays in the oven. Start with a minimum time – in the range of 10 minutes – to determine how the petals will dry in your oven. If you have multiple levels, we suggest you keep them on low setting and have them rotate once every 10 minutes.
4.  Regularly check for crisp petals.
Continually check the petals in the oven. Once they look dry or feel slightly crunchy to the touch, it's time to remove them. Keep in mind that leaving them in the oven for a long period will leave them too crunchy or burn the petals – but if that's the style you're going for we suggest keeping an eye on them constantly.
4. Use the microwave for your petals
The microwave oven offers a unique high-tech method of drying rose petals. Since most people have this type of oven in their kitchen at home, this is a fun and convenient way to dry your rose petals in less than a minute.
1.  Line a microwaveable tray with disposable paper towels
Select a large microwaveable tray and line it with disposable paper towels.
2.  Arrange the Petals on the Covered Tray
Once the tray is covered with the paper towels, it's time to spread the petals evenly across the entire surface. Be sure to give each petal plenty of room to dry so they don't stick together or get mushy.
3. Cover the petals with a layer of paper towels and an additional tray.
Use another layer of paper towels to completely cover all the petals in the tray. Then place one large tray on top of the other to cover the bottom one and the petals.
4.  Turn on your microwave for 30 to 40 seconds
Place the tray in the microwave oven. Use the normal power setting and stop after 30-40 seconds. If your microwave tray doesn't rotate, we recommend turning it manually at the halfway point of time.
5.  Check to see if the petals are crisp.
Once the time has elapsed, check the petals to confirm that they have dried to the level you prefer. If necessary you can use additional time intervals to get the texture you want.
5. Press the petals into a book
Using a book to dry flowers is the classic method with the least effort. This “set it and forget it” option is the ideal option if you don't need to dry the petals in a hurry.
1.  Arrange the petals on an inside page of a large book.
Spread the petals evenly between the pages of a large book. We suggest using books that have thick pages rather than those with a glossy finish as paper tends to absorb moisture better.
2.  Close the book carefully with the petals inside.
Once you have placed the petals in place, carefully and slowly close the book to ensure that the petals stay where you placed them to dry. You can try drying petals between multiple pages of the same book, but we suggest limiting the number a bit and leaving several pages apart. Be sure to highlight the section of the book where your petals are drying!
3.  Let the book rest for two to three weeks. Lay the book flat and allow the petals to dry on the pages for two to three weeks. If you'd like to give your petals a flatter look, place a heavy object on top of the book to compress the petals as they dry.
4.  Carefully remove the dried petals
After the time you selected has passed, remove the petals from the pages of your book.
6. Freeze Dried Rose Petals
Another way to do it is to freeze-dry , the latter, however, is best left to the professionals. This process, known as freeze-drying, consists of extracting all the moisture from the petals and maintaining the temperature of the flowers at temperatures below zero in a frozen state.
