#dw: partners in crime

i'm re-watching Partners in Crime after like. five or six years lol and their dynamic is PEAK. Donna decides to hunt the doctor for (friendly) sport because she's unimpressed by the traveling experience without someone who's on her same wavelength and does this by dabbling in corporate espionage. The Doctor and Donna doing exactly the same thing in exactly the same way at exactly the same time, except she does it by walking in the front door and with a name badge she? stole? or made herself? did she actually get hired by adipose industries and quit or did she just tell her mom that she was working "health and safety" to get her to stop nagging? the doctor talking to an empty TARDIS and Donna sitting with her cup of tea while her mom sterilizes the kitchen like an operating theater just so she looks busy while berating her. donna hanging on to that tiny piece of metal for like ten minutes while the doctor runs back down the fancy stairwell they found and needed to use more. they don't show how the doctor pulls her back through the window by the feet because if he actually tried it she'd've just pulled him out after her. the extremely dedicated journalist having a bad night. Donna's driving around with her luggage in the back of her car, ready to go. once they're done with the nonsense she goes "shame not everybody can handle the heat. unlike me! let's go!" and nearly pulls david tennet off his feet. doesn't blink at the fact that he's managed to find and lose ANOTHER lady friend in the time since they've seen each other. actually gets the doctor to talk about 1% of what's happened to him. the doctor's face of incredible delight when she pulls out the second capsule he needs. the doctor going "who wants to know what happens when you have the Battle of the Sonics? i do!" "YOU JUST WANT. TO MATE?" "'A' MATE! I WANT 'A' MATE!"

Doctor Who - Partners in Crime + Excerpts from the script by Russell T. Davies

For the scene where the Doctor and Donna are reunited on either side of soundproof glass and thus have to mime their conversation, the script gave the lines Russell wanted Donna to act out, but he suggested Catherine Tate come up with the motions herself on the day of the shoot, so Catherine improvised her famous mime while filming.

One of my favourite scenes from all of NuWho! Never fails to make me laugh ♡

Took a break from assignments to make this because we're now just 4 days away from the 60th anniversary special, and I'm so excited about the return of David Tennant as the 15th doctor and Catherine Tate as Donna Noble that I can't study, and I just wanted to share some of my favourite moments of these two together.

I did it. I figured it out. I've connected the dots (no you didn't) I've connected them (you've connected nothing). The red fingernailed hand we see picking up The Master Tooth while floating above London is none other than our favorite floating Supernanny, Matron Kafelia. How? No clue. But no other character fits all two (2) things we know about this person. Mature, feminine, white, red-nailed hand, and known floating/hovering abilities/technology.

the doctor, once again getting rained on: yeah uuuh so i kind of used my Wiles to secure my last emotional support human while i was trying to get over the love of my life and it didn't work out so well, wanna be just friends?

donna, whose evil(ish) fiancee got eaten by spiders the last time they met: I SHOULD HOPE SO. now let's go!!!

the doctor: great! :D this is my tardis, it's bigger on the inside-

donna: yeah i got that already when you kidnapped me from the aisle, shut up and take me to wave at my grandpa

the doctor: absolutely! i feel better already. btw, how do you feel about volcanoes?

I CAN’T WAIT FOR DOCTOR WHO!

Specifically for David Tennant. He was my first doctor and I fell in love with his acting. He is great at having a face and I love his physical acting too (see episode 1 of season 4 of doctor who : “Partners in Crime”) I love that even tho it’s David Tennant acting and he has the same quirks, his characters are so different. I also absolutely love Donna! I was feeling old before I was old and seeing her as the companion meant the world to me! I also loved her attitude and that she wasn’t a love interest but just a friend, something 10 really needed. I could write an essay about the two of them, tbh. ❤️❤️❤️ I also really liked Russell T Davis. He wrote my favorite doctor, seasons, and companions.

I’m rewatching season 4 in preparation and it’s like coming home if that makes sense? It’s definitely a comfort show.

All this to say I’m watching the new episode as soon as it drops on Disney plus so expect spoilers! I’ll tag it DOCTOR WHO SPOILERS if I remember…

I’ve avoided every spoiler and trailer for these new episodes aside for finding out that Donna is in it and I’m so excited to see what happens!

"Partners in Crime" thoughts

bf decided wilf is the best. he is not wrong

the adipose are literally one of the creatures of all time. amongus babies + porg + autism creature. i love them sooooo so much i also kind of want to eat them. it's fine

donna and ten have i think the best chemistry of any doctor-companion pairing in all of new who, possibly ever? in new who at least the only other pairing that comes close is eleven and river and that's bc he wants her strap so bad it makes him sick. they are just so fucking funny and iconic "you're not mating with me sunshine" he is truly in his sad wet era

i don't care about the plot cause the plot's not important. i love how sylvia says donna is the only unemployed person "not like the 80s" what the fuck are you talking about. jesus christ i know jackie can be a bit grating but rose was also 19, of course jackie is protective. donna's like 30! sylvia can eat my shorts. wilf is so supportive and sweet tho, i love their convo by the telescope

do we ever fucking find out what the shadow proclamation is? does chibnall explain it cause it seems like a very chibnall era thing to do. it seems like space nato but idk how much power they could have given that ten basically said the loss of the time lords was the loss of a governing body for space law. maybe he just meant in relation to timey wimey? and the shadow proclamation handles everything else? the whole "breeding planet" stuff felt very futurama to me. popplers

i appreciate that ten acknowledged he "destroyed half of [martha's] life" now can you tell HER that. of course now that she's gone he's all sadboy ohhh i didn't appreciate her enough and i fucked her up. it feels like a retroactive apology from davies. davies i forgive you. ten you're on thin fucking ice.

and then we see the ghost of rose! kind of. not ghost. but her appearance and the music that plays (i think it might be "vale decem"?) echoes the end of the season. we get the hint at the ending right at the beginning. "it was always going to happen, she's been dead since the beginning" kinda vibe. obviously it's meant as just a little tease for the rest of the season but it really felt like a death omen, esp w peter capaldi in the next ep. you're on borrowed time!!

the last thing i want to call back to is when the doctor gives foster one chance to make it right or else he'll fuck her up. it very much echoed "no second chances" from "christmas invasion", i think the only one who ever gets a second chance from ten (not even rose, who gets her second chance with his clone) is the master, who basically never expends his chances. no second chances unless it's my gay best friend that i have a dubiously homoerotic/malicious situationship with. many such cases
