Ok I’m just going to go a head and say it, wtf is even doctor who anymore. I am actually so disappointed with the storylines, the characters and just the over all writing.

I would first like to bring your attention to the spyfall storyline when they re introduced the master. When I heard the master was coming back I was so excited but the two episodes completely butchered his character!

The Master

The master is above all else smarter than the doctor this is a fact, and the only way that the doctor is able to beat the master every time is because the doctor has companions to help him. Something that the master always underestimated because he doesn’t seem them as his equals. It is overall his fatal flaw. e.g Martha and 10 or Clara and 12. The master is the doctors oldest friend and so he knows every move s/he will make before s/he has even made it!

So when I sat down to watch the new version of the master I was so excited to try and work out the end game- find the bigger picture or plot twist. There was none, nothing like the tocklafane of 10 or change of heart of 12. The master had supposedly spent years plotting his revenge of the doctor and this is what he does with it ? There is no witty subtlety, no hint of a story line to be built up again ( I dislike the idea of the master going back and destroying galifrey because there is no way he as a single person could do that)

If the writers wanted the master to destroy galifrey that should have been the end goal, it should have been built up slowly over a few episodes with the doctor slowly putting together the masters plan- and even then once s/he has figured it out not believing that her oldest friend would do such a thing. It carrys shock and horro. After finally getting back your home only to have it ripped away from you. By having it array destroyed this is lost. None of the scenes or storyline where original or engaging- I found myself being reminded of the plot with 10, jack and Martha.

Jack.

In regards to jack, I love jack, he was one of my favourite characters but I have a feeling that Chilbul and the other writers, rather than address the fact that the show is loosing popularity because of poor writing have thrown in a beloved character as a kind of bandaid. Thinking it would bring old viewers back. I’m so scared that with ruin his character just like the master- resorting him to a 2D promiscuous bisexual rather than accepting the complicated character that he truly is.

The companions.

I’m gonna say it. The writers can’t handle three companions. It is too many characters for them to handle which has left all the characters underdeveloped with no actual opinions. I feel like they are simply a collective mind with no individuality. They have a few traits thrown about but none of it really makes them stand out. There more there as the doctors support group, following her about, doing what their told, rather solving problems by themselves like any of the old cast. Sprouting motivational speeches about family without any depth or impact.

I’m not angry I’m just dispointed.
