Y'know what, yeah, gonna ramble a bit more about how my characters got their names because I am terrible with this.

Clarissa Dunst: Bastardization of Larry Butz's pseudonym in the third Ace Attorney game. (Laurice Deauxnim > Clarice Deauxnim > Clarissa Dunst)

Jitendra "Joseph" Prasad: Originally called Josef, after a character I once played in a high school production. Honestly not sure when that changed.

Ingrid Zheng: Bastardization of Incavris, from back when she was a Neopet.

Bee: I straight-up don't remember. I also don't remember why her name was 'Bernie' in earlier drafts.

Marshal Johnson: Named after that guy from How I Met Your Mother who was convinced bigfoot was real. An old game prototype had Clarissa and Joseph make a one-off joke about said character, and then the one-off joke became a character because I overthink my jokes.

Fiona "Finch" Meggins: Megan Finn, from The Wishlist. (Can you tell I designed most of these guys in high school?)

Jack Haas: Designed for an OCT where everyone is a jackass. QED. (The spelling of his last name was inspired by a brand of avocado.)

Lavinia Mortigan (Vinny): First name comes from the Shakespeare character, surname is the goalie from Team Haunted Woods on Neopets.

Vinny's other pseudonyms: Mostly Shakespeare characters (Margaret Claudius, Marcella Costa), though once they get found out they ask whoever's nearby for a new name. (Belladonna, Steve, and - hilariously - Lavinia again.)

Sprocket McKormic: 'Sprocket' is a temporary name used by an amnesiac in Deadly!. ("There's a theory I'm called Sprocket..."). 'McKormic' was suggested by my OCT writing partner at the time.

Annabelle Merlo: Straight-up don't remember, but I know it only starts with 'A' because the Camera Bunker Bat trio were originally named A, B, and C.

Duncan Durant and Isadora Voclain: Those two kids from A Series of Unfortunate Events. ...And therefore a certain deceased dancer, I suppose.

Eldora Doe: I hit 'random' on Death Road to Canada a couple of times, got her first name, then went "hahaha. that sounds like El Dorado."

Jonald Doe: Because I already had Eldora designed and wanted him to be just as stupid. 'Jonald', because I already knew a couple of Johns.

Patricia Sloane: Surname from the protagonist of The Intergalactic Nemesis.

Bernard Warnes: One of the placeholder names in the Monster of the Week scenario 'Damn Dirty Apes'. His maiden name (Nielsen) is because I realised too late I had the opportunity to make the BONE cast have the initials BONE. fml

Alice Benson: I know like three different fictional characters named Alice who are in the medical profession, so when I needed a paramedic for MotW you bet your ass that's the name I chose.

Rockwell Everett: Originally it was gonna be Rockwell Everest, after the mountain, but I typo'd it and couldn't be fucked changing it. Anyway yeah. He's a spelunker. His name is literally Cave Mountain.

Amethyst Orson: Amy Sullivan, from the John Dies series.

Spakel, Twikel: Typos I made in my Neopets's names at age 6 and have decided to keep, because it's funny.

Merlo is the Hake Prince, son to the Hake King and Queen and the boyfriend of Matilda.

History

Merlo was born on 2 November 1997 and had a relatively easy upbringing as the crown prince of the Hake Royal Family. At the age of 4, he would meet his best friends Veto, Dylan and Wilmer and they would go to the same boarding school together. While he is good with girls, no princess at his school would pay attention to him or his friends.

One day, Merlo and his friends decided to visit Veto’s sister, Tubarina, at the Sea School, where they would also meet her friends and other princesses. It was there that Merlo would meet Hawkfish Princess Matilda, a very beautiful princess with caramel skin like himself. Taking a liking to her, the two of them became friends and eventually, they became a couple.

Merlo’s tastes include listening to music and wanting to be part of a boy band with his friends.

Appearance

Merlo is a prince of medium height and thin build with some muscles; black hair tied in braids; grey eyes; metal earrings; a light blue, turquoise and light grey hake crown on his head; black bracelets on his wrists, a grey sweatshirt and darker grey shorts.

Relationships

Matilda: Merlo and Matilda met when he visited the Sea School with his friends. They eventually became a couple who love each other and are mutually fond of each other.

Dylan/Veto/Wilmer: Dylan, Veto and Wilmer are Merlo’s best friends. The four of them get along very well and are very close.

Curiosities

- Merlo is the only one among his friends who does not have imperfections in his teeth.

Open Casting - VA Spec - Judge Tawny

This open call for voice samples is in the interest of creating two small, additional roles in NALE, which previously did not exist, for Dylan Merlo and Judge Tawny.

These are unpaid roles; they're outside our budget as they don't need to exist in-game, but we're going to add each of them if we get a sufficiently high-quality submission for each part.

This would be a chance for a VA to get an additional credit for a very small amount of work.

What's needed

Judge Tawny's roll only involves the following lines:

"Order!" - assertive, strong, angry? Shouted in court to quieten proceedings.

"Penalty." - Commanding, assertive. Said to Nina when she is penalised for presenting the wrong evidence.

We need 4 variants of each of the above lines.

"Not guilty." - Assertive, but relieved. Used at the end of each case.

"Guilty." - Assertive, strong. Used as part of the "game over" flow.

We only need one variant of these.

These must be cut up into individual files (ideally in lossless format, 44100Hz/32-bit PCM or higher), recorded on high-quality hardware and cleaned up to a good degree before being delivered. It is preferable that the samples are in stereo. Note that as we're creating this role mainly to allow someone to fill it, we will only actually use the samples if we get a submission that we feel fits the character and hits the necessary level of quality. In terms of style, Judge Tawny is a mature American woman, in her 60s, with a strong, assertive attitude and a commanding demeanour, as one would expect from a judge. She has southern origins (though with a mild accent). She's strong-willed, and not easily intimidated (at one point staring down a literal demon in court, with words to the effect of "you're not the first creature of darkness I've struck down in court and you won't be the last"). Judge Barbara Tawny is part of Fledge City's judiciary; strictly speaking these are chosen for trials at random from a pool, but as a conceit for the game, the player's trials are always adjudicated by Tawny.

Tawny is well respected, and considered astute, strong-willed and fearless. She's sharp-tongued and makes no apologies for it. Despite that, she is not known to be cruel; she has a caring, if curt, nature, but with her vast courtroom experience, she easily sees through mind games and crude attempts at trickery or obfuscation, and has zero tolerance for such things.

Dylan is the Porpoise Prince and boyfriend to Delfi, the Dolphin Princess.

History

Dylan is the only child of the Porpoise Royal Family. At the age of 4, he met his best friends, Veto, Wilmer and Merlo, and they did things together. Soon after, Dylan left with his family to travel all over Salacia and Dryland, during which they met Delfi and the Dolphin Royal Family. Their families became good friends and Dylan stayed in contact with Delfi as penpals, meeting each other every once in a while. At some point the two of them became a couple.

After Dylan returned from his travels, he rejoined his friends at the same boarding school Veto attended. He became one of the most popular princes at school due to his attractiveness. His dream is to become a doctor of marine animals, although another one of his dreams is to be a singer and form a boy band. Despite being popular at school, he could not find a girl who wanted him since the other princesses at his school are arrogant on top of the fact that he is not as intelligent. He doesn’t face as much pressure at school compared to Veto, who had to take up sports due to the influence of his sports-mad father, the Shark King, or Wilmer for being unable to tame the moray eels.

One day, Dylan was playing basketball with his friends when Delfi came to him in a panic alongside Polvina, Ester and Tubarina, asking him for help with a porpoise about to give birth. When Delfi introduced Dylan to her friends as her boyfriend, Ester and Tubarina had their doubts due to his lack of intelligence and laid-back nature, but after Dylan helped the porpoise, they gradually began to accept him.

Personality

Dylan is a kind-hearted boy who treats his friends well. He is usually calm and relaxed and does not fight with anyone unless someone bothers him or his friends. He loves his loved ones very much and will do whatever it takes to protect them. Aside from Veto, Wilmer and Merlo, Dylan prefers to be friends with people younger than himself like Delfi and her friends, acting as an older brother figure to them.

Relationships

Delfi: Dylan and Delfi are the perfect couple for each other. The both of them can be a bit cloying to others by showing a lot of affection but they behave like older figures to others. They are sometimes nicknamed the Barbie and Ken of Salacia.

Veto: Veto is probably Dylan’s closest friend out of his group as the both of them are almost always together, like the same things and pamper their girlfriends. They are also known as the “pretty boys” of the group.

Wilmer: Dylan and Wilmer are very close friends as they both have different tastes in music (Dylan liking 2000’s music and Wilmer liking 80’s music), but they like listening to each other’s favourite genres and they both want to start a boy band when they grow up.

Merlo: Dylan and Merlo are very good friends who like reading literature and playing basketball.

Polvina: Dylan and Polvina have a good brotherly relationship as Dylan treats Polvina like a younger sister, Polvina seeing him as the brother she never had.

Appearance

Dylan is a boy of tall stature and strong build. He has a round face almost like that of a model’s, medium nose, dark brown hair forming a fringe on his forehead and braces on his teeth (due to him hitting his mouth on the ground numerous times while skateboarding). He also has two metal earrings in his ears, he wears a medium grey sweatshirt with a zipper and hood, a black collar with metal hook, dark grey pants and his porpoise crown.

Curiosities

- Delfi was originally paired with Maurico due to the creator’s preference of blonde/Afro-American ships, but Dylan ended up being created as Delfi’s love interest based on a model from the music video of the song Take Me Away by Tany Vander.

- Dylan and two of his friends have imperfections in their teeth:

HLV Ljupko Petrovic đang bay cao cùng Thanh Hoá.

Sau khi Hải Phòng chia tay HLV Dylan Kerr cuối năm 2014, V-League sạch bóng HLV nước ngoài. Phải đến trước thềm mùa giải 2017, sân chơi số một của bóng đá Việt Nam mới được chứng kiến sự trở lại của những vị thuyền trưởng đến từ trời tây, Ljupko Petrovic và Alain Antoine Fiard.

Wilmer is the Moray Eel Prince, one of the most hated out of the other princes and princesses. He is the son of the Moray Eel King and Queen and he is also the boyfriend of Goldfish Princess Goldina/Alexia.

History

Wilmer was born in 1997 and was raised by his parents who are big fans of 80’s music, dressing as artists of the time. From a young age, Wilmer also liked 80’s music, collecting many music records from the 80’s. At the age of 3, Wilmer met the boys who would become his best friends, Veto, Dylan and Merlo, and they would always be together doing different things.

At the age of 5, Wilmer’s parents took him to meet the moray eels but he discovered that they were dangerous animals that had no respect for anyone, not even their own royal family, and his parents told him that the only way to get moray eels to obey them is to be rude to them. Wilmer never really had the courage to face the moray eels so they just did whatever they want, annoying everyone and making them hate the royal family for not doing anything about them. They were hated so much that they threw garbage at them when they went out, so Wilmer became very shy and dejected at school where everyone threw food at him as well.

When he was 10 years old, Wilmer was hanging out with Dylan and Merlo when Veto came with his younger sister, Tubarina, and her friends, Polvina and Ester along with Goldina/Alexia, who were already fed up with what the moray eels were doing. They complained to Wilmer, but he explained to them that it was difficult to get the moray eels to pay attention to them because they are very wild animals who are difficult to tame.

Hearing this, everyone decided to help him tame the moray eels. Everyone’s attempts failed, but Goldina/Alexia had an idea to have the moray eels’ leader chase everyone. As everyone fled from him and the other moray eels, Goldina/Alexia fell and injured her leg. The moray eels’ leader was about to attack her but Wilmer managed to stop him with a kick, allowing him to finally gain authority over the moray eels and scare them away. Everyone was proud of Wilmer’s courage and Wilmer took Goldina/Alexia back to his palace to bandage her wounds before taking her home to her palace. Over time, Wilmer and Goldina/Alexia took a liking to each other and they would become a couple.

Although Wilmer stopped being shy at his school (possibly the same boarding school where Veto goes, but as a day student), his classmates still hated him so he and his friends would go to the Sea School to hang out with their girlfriends. Although Wilmer may have had some problems with expressing himself to others due to his isolation, he and his friends proved to be excellent boyfriends, leading their girlfriends to consider them good role models. Wilmer likes babies, which is why he likes to take care of Goldina/Alexia’s baby sister, Alexa, and he also wants to teach everyone at the Sea School about 80’s music.

Personality

At first glance, Wilmer may seem like a shy and introverted boy as very little like him due to his relationship with the moray eels, but if you get to know him, Wilmer is an extroverted, lively, optimistic, romantic, charismatic, protective and fatherly boy who likes to he with his friends and girlfriend Goldina/Alexia. Wilmer can sometimes be very proud and think of himself as a ladies’ man who has all the girls at his mercy, though in reality, other girls see him as a friendly uncle due to his preference for 80’s culture and they ask him if they can sit on his lap as they would with their fathers or uncles, much to Goldina/Alexia’s jealousy. When it comes to facing enemies or moray eels themselves, he will always protect his loved ones, but usually he always has a laid-back attitude.

Relationships

Goldina/Alexia: Wilmer and Goldina/Alexia love each other very much and they both have a good relationship. They initially met when Goldina/Alexia and the girls got sick of the moray eels and decided to get help from Wilmer. When Goldina/Alexia got to know him more closely, she saw that he was a cute and sensitive boy and they both started to become closer to each other after Wilmer saved her from being attacked by moray eels. Wilmer and Goldina/Alexia enjoy each other’s company and they like sharing their interests and tastes with each other.

Veto, Dylan and Merlo: Wilmer is best friends with Veto, Dylan and Merlo, being friends since they were young and having many adventures with them. He likes teaching them about his interests such as 80’s music, internet animations and how to dress in style.

Polvina, Ester and Tubarina: Wilmer gets along well with the girls as Tubarina is the younger sister of Veto.

Moray Eel King and Queen: Wilmer has a good relationship with his parents. They were both quite good at taking care of him and teaching them about 80’s music.

Physical appearance

Wilmer is of medium height and slim build. He has long and bouncy platinum blonde hair (in the style of Nik Kershaw), brown eyes and a somewhat long and pointy nose. A part of his front teeth are missing, leaving a gap. He wears a brown sweatshirt, darker brown shorts and a smiling moray eel crown.

Curiosities

- Wilmer’s design is based on the appearance of singer Nik Kershaw and his parents are based on singers David Bowie and Bonnie Tyler.

- Wilmer was originally planned to have a somewhat annoying and egotistical personality and would also be a bad boy alongside his friends, but this was changed to give him a friendlier personality.

- Wilmer, despite being the Moray Eel Prince, actually hates them and shows no real interest in them.

Open Casting - VA Spec - Dylan Merlo

This open call for voice samples is in the interest of creating two small, additional roles in NALE, which previously did not exist, for Dylan Merlo and Judge Tawny.

These are an unpaid role; they're outside our budget as they don't need to exist in-game, but we're going to add each of them if we get a sufficiently high-quality submission for each part.

This would be a chance for a VA to get an additional credit for a very small amount of work.

What's needed

Dylan's role only involves producing samples of the following line:

"Hey!" Angry, exclamatory, irritated

We would like 4 variants (the game will randomly choose between them).

These must be cut up into 4, individual files (ideally in lossless format, 44100Hz/32-bit PCM or higher), recorded on high-quality hardware and cleaned up to a good degree before being delivered. It is preferable that the samples are in stereo.

Note that as we're creating this role mainly to allow someone to fill it, we will only actually use the samples if we get a submission that we feel fits the character and hits the necessary level of quality.

In terms of style, we imagine Dylan has having a speaking/shouting voice similar to some of the more well-known English, young, American male voices present in "western boom" era anime, such as was used for the two main characters in Get Backers:

About Dylan

Dylan's backstory is summarised as follows:

Dylan’s part in NALE starts in Chapter 2, when he arrives at the Aquila office and and begs Nina to represent his friend, Terry Scrubb.

Both Dylan and Terry's earliest memories are of their home, an orphanage, in which they first met. The pair fled the orphanage in their early teens, but soon found themselves in dire circumstances. They spent the next decade doing whatever they could to survive, but gradually drifted apart.

Dylan has told Nina very little about his past, and Nina hasn’t asked. However, from time-to-time, Dylan has revealed himself as having... Unusual... Knowledge and skills.

In terms of his personality, Dylan and Nina form something of a double-act. Whereas Nina is introspective, Dylan is brash, confident and loud. He’s tidy, cleanly and organised, making him an ideal PA. However, though he’s great at the big details, he has a tendency to miss smaller ones.

Finally, Nina has observed that Dylan is fiercely loyal to those who he calls friends... Though, in quiet moments, she wonders what formative experiences drove him to seek out and maintain such strong bonds.

NALE takes place in an alternate universe, though the setting, for dubbing purposes, can be considered as broadly similar to the US, more specifically the Midwest, though Dylan is not originally from the location in which the game takes place. Due to his unusual upbringing as a war-orphan, Dylan does not know his exact age or date-of-birth, but has a "legal" date of birth that would make him approximately 25 years old when he first meets Nina. He is also a biker, but has left that life, seeking more stability.
