I HAD A REALIZATION RECENTLY that was very illuminating in touching on some of my issues with how Daffy is characterized in the modern (post-60s) era: there are a few traits that remain consistent all throughout Daffy's evolution in the classics, and perhaps the most consistent of them all is his tenacity. if he has his mind set on something he is GOING FOR IT and WILL NOT STOP until he, in multiple proven cases, literally dies. whether that's heckling someone for his own enjoyment or trying to dethrone Bugs or get a quick buck or trying to mooch off of someone or ANYTHING. no matter the era he is incredibly driven and persistent, and so much of the comedy--particularly later on--comes from how much this constant sense of hyperdrive leads to his own failure. and even in shorts like Holiday for Drumsticks, which is all about him trying to starve a Thanksgiving turkey so he can get his food instead and watch him kill himself trying to lose it all, his scheme is still incredibly elaborate in all of the ways he gets the turkey to lose the weight, and he wastes no time attempting (in utter futility) to lose the weight that he himself put on when his life is now endangered. like, even his schemes to be a lazy slob are not at all lazy in their execution
and you have stuff like Duck Dodgers or The Looney Tunes Show coming in where his primary traits are his laziness and stupidity, BOTH OF WHICH ARE SO INCORRECT! i've gone on many spiels about how he's not at all stupid so i'll spare that, but i never thought much about the laziness thing. and it's.. mind boggling, because Daffy's tenacity is like the one incontestable, black and white, irrefutable consistency between all of his characterizations in the classics. i will say that hearing Spike Brandt and Tony Cervone say that they imagined Daffy's role in Duck Dodgers as its own separate character FROM Daffy has helped reconcile with a lot of "um he wouldn't do that"s that i have with the show, which i've also been overcoming a bit anyway because a) there are moments where he can prove himself, particularly earlier on, and b) i'm more able to accept the show for what it is and trying to do. unlike the latter. which i've also gone on many spiels about but coming to this realization has made me glare freshly-sharpened daggers at.
the stupidity thing still rubs me raw but i'm sympathetic because i can see how people might conflate his insanity/impulsiveness/doing stupid THINGS with actually stupidity. but making him lazy and having it be a sort of defining feature in recent decades is... shockingly antithetical to his character. like his whole thing is that he goes through all of these great lengths and puts in so much effort, whether it be refusing to stop bothering Porky or Elmer or doing all of these insane ways to upstage Bugs who gets applauded just for existing, etc. it's true that he does what he likes and has an indulgent personality, but never does he come off like a slob. in fact, he's been known to randomly call people sloppy/slovenly without any sort of reason behind it!! i swear there are just more and more ways that he's fundamentally misunderstood
it's funny that i'm using this comic example to close out, tangentially going back to the stupid thing/classic duck refuting modern duck trappings, because you probably can trace the beginnings of this mischaracterization to here, just as you can trace the ensemble-ification of the LT characters to the comics... but we at least have it straight from the duck's mouth that he's not a stooge
#this is just so crazy to me#and again i'm a bit more forgiving of DD since hearing that they viewed Dodgers as his own character really and like. the whole show is#pretty much built on an Odd Couple dynamic with Porky. it started a lot of bad habits to be affixed to his characterization#but i can see the thinking as to why they implemented them#i am less forgiving of TLTS as we all well know#but... man....#ahhh shaddap#lt

i think i might just like harems when theyre toxic af

just finished s2 of kaiji and it was good i really liked it but i hope i never see that fuckass pachinko machine again!!!
#i started ep 15 assuming hey the climactic battle against the swamp of despair is probably gonna be like 6 episodes max right#bc the op has hyoudou and roulette so there's a third game on the way#and from about the fourth episode on i kept going man it's gotta end next episode right they can't have That much more they can do with it#TWELVE EPISODES OF ONE GAME OF PACHINKO. YOU'RE JOKING#and watching it animated is one thing but im surprised fans of the manga didnt string him up in the street for this#im not joking i sunk cost fallacied my way through the entire thing in one sitting it was so much fucking pachinko#and spoilers spoilers spoilers but the BUILDING??? the BUILDING. jumping the shark a Little there to be so fr with you all#head in my hands kaiji i love you your life is ridiculous. the last episode having him blow his meager winnings on pachinko like the day#after was insane to me HAVENT YOU HAD ENOUGH???? I CERTAINLY HAVE#augh and like. guhh hes so nice hes such a nice protagonist im. in love with him a little bit#i do wish he was a Little more tempted by the money bc i liked that component earlier on#ah actually i think the main object of the fights becoming Figuring Out How To Out-Cheat The Enemy was less cool#don't get me wrong it was fun but i Really liked the more raw nobody knows whats going on vibes of the first two#and the group dynamics of rrps and the human derby were so delicious to me. also i wish s2 had more torture implements#the cheating thing makes sense progression-wise it's just a preference thing. the human derby hit me insanely hard#so it's kind of hard for anything to compete after that y'know?#actually very happy kaiji is still addicted to gambling at the end. like it's a happy ending bc he's debt free but like. he's not gonna#stay that way. and maybe thats a weird thing to be happy about but i think it's a choice that makes sense#he's got no reason to give it up and has become emotionally dependent on it. the series' concern w gambling as inherently self-destructive#and its sympathy towards ppl who see it as their last hope is like. really cool and idk i think it keeps kaiji real to never let that go#ok i just looked it up and the manga does continue. my ass will be reading it for sure#so idk how faithful the anime ending is but yeah. anyway i really really liked it this was good for me like emotionally#fkmt#ive heard the next arc is mahjong which is sick bc i like 80% know how mahjong works from yakuza#maybe this will help me grasp the final 20% (<- should just look up the rules or something)#what else. right i think it's funny that there's like 2 women total. making slow progress toward a (vaguely) dynamic pokémon custom team template that mimics the Bulbapedia team flyout and after ... a ... While ... of essentially redesigning the element hierarchy from scratch with the help of a friend who is MUCH better at programming than me, it is beginning to Look
(the Absol screenshot was just one I had on hand for a stand-in, my final one will probably look a little different since I want to also add Mega / Partner Pokemon indicators if possible, and to also just tweak the info hierarchy a bit)
#from the writer's den#void talks#getting those corners on the moves was ROUGH. initially it was a table structure but after much struggle#my friend found an implementation that just uses css wizardry instead of html#also for anyone curious: the reason I say it's vaguely dynamic is bc it's actually a jinja template and html#with my vague idea being that essentially it prints out pages for any arbitrary team#(though obviously the pages themselves will be static)#also for those familiar with bulbapedia#I wanted to have a proper 'neuter' gender marker so my eventual goal is to write a little if-then in the jinja file#that allows it to convert to arbitrary symbols (to display) in addition to having the custom colors (in the css)#probably in the form of a 'if [m] / elif [f] / else' for the colors#this is solely bc there's enough neutral-gender pokemon on my oc teams that I want it to actually be indicated#where absence actually means unspecified

BY THE WAY, EVERYONE!
One thing I started to do again is asking how your muse would react to certain scenarios (expressions/physically wise).
PLEASE, ask away if you want to know how Zarina would react to some words/actions. I will happily reply to that!
Personally, I implement these details in my asks when I write them to make them more dynamic so it won't be just one-sided writing of an interaction. I don't want it to be godmodding, but I also want to not just... write expressions/actions that may feel like throwing a ball at the wall from Zarina's side. It can also be implied from the asks. The general behavior of the muse: are they cocky/confident/shy etc. Giving vague summaries of certain reactions to situations can go SO FAR in terms of creativity!
I usually try to be pretty vague about what I write from another muse's perspective just for Zar to kick off that (like with kiss asks, I add some 'flavor' to it by writing some responses but not detailing them too much).
So with that in mind, if you want to write some of Zarina's actions - go off when you ask me. Roleplay is a two-way fun time, so this also helps build communication! Let's communicate to make more dynamic threads!
It's 1 AM so some of my writing may sound weird, I might rewrite it with better wording laterz.

new pokemon episode!!!
#vi rambling#pokemon#this ep was great honestly... i kinda lowered expectations because i kinda... disliked last ep lol . a lot didnt make sense#but i really liked basagiri's characterisation and seeing more of lucius.. that flashback was really sweet and a lot can be inferred from i#and there were great moments direction wise. basagiri locking them in with the rock tomb and liko terastalizing were really great#i will say im a little disappointed it didnt last for one more episode? it felt a bit short lived in comparison to the others?#because the pacing was mostly spent on looking For basagiri. and when we finally find him ig all just feels pretty short.#honestly i think my biggest problem is perrin because as much as i wanted to like her her presence felt pretty unnecessary imo.#until now the series has done a shockingly very good job at implementing the game characters in a way that doesn't feel forced#but in this case it.... kind of is. i didnt feel like she did much other than providing the initial picture and her dynamic with the others#didnt stand out enough for me to feel like the characters gained anything from her presence. there was the cute moment with dot last ep#(which was honestly the highlight of the episode imo) but its very short and doesnt change much or provide much insight on perrin herself.#mostly sad the rest of the rising volteccers are being kinda shelved for this... which is transparently the intervention of gamefreak#wanting to promote the games. ehhhh whatever whatever. i cant decide if what would solve this would be perrin staying longer#or just writing her out. no clue.#anyways DIANA IS BACK LETS GOOOO. i will say seeing liko's growth is really satisfying and so is rhe rest of the kids#and this ep did a much better job at that than last episode because seriously im so... what was with that.#ITS FINE im not gonna be negative about last episode i enjoyed this one and thats what counts. i need episode 75 very badly#FOR THE THIRD TRAVELER REVEAL... i dont remember her name but . this sounds fascinating i NEED more of gibeon and lucius#from just the little information that is scattered and inferred... they fascinate me.#also i realize why lucius fascinates me so much.#something to do with... a kindhearted gentle looking hero of old.... with blue hair... who roams the land helping the people (or pokemon)#who sort of haunts the narrative as rhe character who's legendary legacy the main character is following after his journey has ended...#HMMMM.... I have so many lines linking to this kind of dynamic#and overall the paradoxical yet logical bond between love and hatred or resentment#I think Cathy's and Heathclif.f's relationship has a lot of this but in general Wutherin.g Heigh.ts is full of these dynamics#(I adore what is going on with Isabella when we last see her in that regard. How true‚ the fact that these loves get messy)#Charles and Adam and even Cal and Aron from Eas.t of Ede.n too#I think there's much of this explored in certain arthuria.n texts#Overall it's something I adore. The blurring of lines when it comes to feelings and relationships#To me it feels way more human and way more... realistic#How things blur into each other and get messy and dark even at times and hard to define#I don't know... I really think the fandom as a whole is always paying too much attention to that line without reading the entire text#I also dislike the claims about Jack ever only loving her and doing it all for her ✨💕 I also think it simples a lot what it's happening#But it doesn't bother me nearly as much because I don't see it that often#I talk too much#I should probably delete this later#'too much attention to that line' I mean the one about hating her#Full of typos but I can't bother to change them I'm feeling very lazy#Tumblr never implemented the tag modification for the app. A pity
