Ratio leans over to pick Aventurine’s gloves and jacket from the bed, and sweep the rings into his hand; Aventurine watches him detachedly as he does so. “You know,” Aventurine says, and Ratio pauses. Their faces are uncomfortably close. “Your eyes.” He stops. “My eyes,” Ratio repeats. He does not move. - (or: days before aventurine’s scheduled trip to penacony, about three terrible cocktails in, he finds himself in the same ballroom as ratio.)

Jealousy would be unbecoming of him—if his help is what Shigeo wants, Teruki will freely give. “You could have just told me so. But I’ve never tried to manipulate the weather before, so I might not be of much help.”

“No!” Shigeo yelps. “No, there’s no girl. It was meant to be a surprise. For you.”

Teruki blinks. Runs the words though his mind—for you. Unwittingly smiles even harder. “Oh.”

“Alright.” Tomo’s tone is almost contrite, but he reaches out to Kazuha’s hand and laces their fingers together. Two men, sitting in a sea of incandescent blue, and a haunting wind like a sigh between them. “I promise.”
