This archive image is an engraving from 1850 with views over Arthur's Seat and Edinburgh,  the animals grazing the fields. Did “ewe” know that sheep and cattle grazed the areas for many years? Locals farmed the fields around Arthur’s Seat, and sheep were kept in the park until 1975.

Fast forward to #Coosday today and we're back near Arthur's Seat, visiting Hermione and Faddom. 28th January 1829, the resurrection man William Burke is hung in front of a crowd possibly as large as 25,000. His body was later publicly dissected, where a minor riot took place to gain access. Burke had been sentenced to death at 9am on Christmas day the previous year, with his accomplice William Hare turning King’s evidence against Burke, in order to escape the noose. As the death sentence had been passed, Lord Justice-Clerk, David Boyle , proclaimed: ‘Your body should be publicly dissected and anatomized. And I trust, that if it is ever customary to preserve skeletons, yours will be preserved, in order that posterity may keep in remembrance your atrocious crimes’ His body was then sent to Edinburgh University and displayed, it remains on display at the University's Museum of Anatomy to this day. After beginning their macabre careers with selling already dead bodies, Burke and Hare turned to murder, and killed 16 people in 1828, selling their corpes to the Edinburgh anatomy schools. The Burke and Hare scandal led to the passing of the Anatomy Act of 1832. This period saw the rise again of anatomy displays, after its height at the end of the 18th century. The most visited anatomy museum in London in the mid 19th century, was Dr Joseph Kahn's Anatomical and Pathological Museum, which included his anatomical venus.
