A commission being sent home today. Belted kingfisher in ink and watercolor, decorated with a mayfly, juvenile banded sunfish, eastern mudminnow, dusky shiner, and a speckled madtom on the mat. The fishes are all native to the Edisto River, where the commissioner is from.

Compared to the rest of the US right now, around here yesterday evening, it was a downright balmy 24°F/-4.44°C (nearly sweltering, I know), so the household decided to hit up a park the next county over to take in their lighting display.

The Dia Art Center has taken on longterm stewardship of artist Cameron Rowland's 2018 work, Depreciation, which consists of a one-acre parcel of land in Edisto Island, SC, and restrictions on its deed that remove all monetary value or use. The land was once part of a plantation, then was given to a freed Black farmer following Sherman's Army, and then was soon repossessed by the former enslavers. Dia and Rowland discourage visiting the site, but the documentation of it will be on view at Dia:Beacon.
